i have noticed that dvd playback is slow . i use vlc and kaffeine.if the dvd files are on hdd the playback is again slow.i have nvidia 630m optimus

    Hi
If this delay appears only playing the movies and audio using the CD/DVD drive then you should check this short workaround:
    1) Access the device manager
    2) Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI option
    3) go to Primary IDE channel -> Properties -> Advanced settings
    4) here you should check if DMA if available was chosen
If its not set to DMA if available then remove the Primary IDE channel from the device list and reboot the notebook.
After the notebook has booted again, check the single point again and check if DMA if available appears again

  • Playback very slow

Unbelievably, for the first time I am working with HD video in FCE4.  I acquired some .mov files from a shoot using a Canon 5D Mark II.  I know my iMAC is 'old' - G5 PPC with a gig of RAM and a 2ghz processor.  I imported the files just fine from an external drive (Firewire 400) but the playback is slow to the point where it's pointless to even try.  What can I do?

Thanks! Seems to be working great.  Another quick question - the camera used was not my own, so the raw footage essentially was transferred to a portable drive.  The clips are all automatically separated -  is there a way to convert them all together?  Obviously it's very time consuming doing one clip at a time, when I have 52 clips.  Thanks!

  • AVCHD DOWNLOADS BUT PLAYBACK VERY SLOW

I can download AVCHD to premier 7 from my SONY Handycam, but playback is slow and "sketchy". I also have downloaded these same videos to the software that SONY provides - "picture motion browser" - and it plays just fine. Is there a setting issue with premier 7? I am new to this so any help would be great and much appreciated.

Picture Motion Browser is a simple player rather than a video editor. Did you select the correct project preset for your video project at the start up splash screen... ie the appropriate AVCHD project preset?
Also to edit AVCHD you need a powerful processor, I would recommend a quad core or as a minimum a very fast dual core. If your machine is not up to spec then you will need to hit Enter on your keyboard to render the clip, it should then play back smoothly.

  • FCPX Playback head slow in timeline? Using Proxies.

Im editing 5k footage shot on the Red Epic.  I have a interview laid out in my timeline (or project) and I am going through and setting my "IN" and "OUT" marks and cutting using "APPLE-X".  Also using "J" on keyboard to rewind to certain points where I want to mark my "IN" points.  The footage runs great until I start cutting frequently.  My playhead starts to be slower than the actual video playing back. So when I make my "IN" and "OUTS"  and then cut, my edit is about 6 or 7 frames off.  It seems as if the playhead is lagging or it is slowed.  Every clip is converted to the 1080 proxies.  I am not mixing footage formats.  Im editing with the proxy setting enabled.  I am cutting from a GTECH Firewire 800 Drive.   Here are my computer specs:
    MAC PRO:
    MAC OS X 10.6.8
    Processor: 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    GFX: ATI Radeon HD 5870
    Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6
Please let me know if you can help me.
    Thanks
    Elliot Pollaro

be sure there isn't anything else accessing your drive....file downloads....email auto checking...etc.
try seeing if the behaviour changes by alternating the preferences for playback, best performance vs high quality.
it's hard to understand why this would be an issue with proxy footage. enable the checkbox to warn you when drop frames occur. just to see...
does this only happen when editing 5k footage or can you reproduce it with other footage?
is it a fast 7200 rpm disk? might it be too full?
because you're using proxies, it sounds like something is slowing the hard drive down such that it's not accessing fast enough.

  • Re: Satelite M70 - Video playback really slow and dtrange metalic noise

    Hi
I have a Satelite M70 laptop and a few days now I realise that the video (youtube and any sort of videos) playback speed is really slow, slow motion (my interenet speed is fine)
and there is a really creepy kind metal noise when the video is playing.... u cant hear anything just that noise.
Also when i open a file or a menu in windows u get theis king of metalic noise
I have checked the video and audio codecs and are the latest
btw: I can hear audio files from media player just fine. It seems this happens only with videos
Any suggestions cause i cant see any videos!!!!!

I was 100% sure you will post this.
Online playback speed is always different. I have fastest 16000 DSL line and I have noticed the same on my M70 and brand new Satellite P300. Sometimes is youtube or some livestream video perfect and sometimes audio and video don't match together or the video playback is like in slow-motion.
I have also latest drivers and codecs preinstalled on both machines. There is one interesting thing-this slow-motion happen when the HDD led is blinking and when the HDD is running. Please play a little bit with this stuff and watch carefully how it works.
About sound and speakers is not easy to say if they are defective or not. The fact is that sound on headphones works perfectly is evidence that sound card or sound driver is not the problem.
I really don't know what to say but I believe the speakers don't work properly.
    What do you think?

  • MacPro 3.1 with GTX285 freezes during playback- too slow?

I´m having issues with my MacPro 3.1 (2008, 10GB RAM, GTX 285 card) and FCPX which always freezes only during playback.
I can edit the whole day without any freezing as long as I do not play back the edit for longer than 1 minute. After about 1.15 of continuos playback the computer will freeze for 45 seconds. The audio keeps playing though but the video will freeze and I cant do anything on the computer. Then video comes back for another minute before it will freeze again. So I can never see the whole edit...
When working with Adobe Premiere CS6 or any other program I do not have the slightest issues and the MacPro is working fine the whole day. I only have this issue with FCPX (10.0.6 and 10.0.7)
I have tried the following so far:
    - trashed preferences
    - re-installed FCPX
    - clean install of the OS (10.8.2) on a fresh HD with fresh install of FCPX (no other programs on the system)
    - changed RAM
    - Hardware Test with no issues showing
    - dropped in my old GT8800 graphic card which seems to be too slow but does not show any real freezes only choppy video playback
    - Cuda driver installed and Cuda uninstalled
Could it be that my system is too slow for FCPX? Could the 285 cause the freezing? Does anybody else have this kind of issues? I have to use Premiere Pro CS6 with Cuda for most of my projects, but for quick edits I would love to use FCPX with this machine. What can I do? Any ideas what could be wrong with my system? Any feedback would be highly appreciated.

    Tom,
thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. Now I´m even more puzzled knowing that it should work fine on my machine.
I also got the impression that the GTX285 should handle FCPX without any issues and it does on my machine until it freezes. Its quite snappy during editing and can play quite a few effects that need rendering in real time. Strange thing also is that I do not get a dropped frame warning after the freeze.
    Regarding your questions:
    1) I tried all kind of formats ranging from DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, XDCAM and ProRes. Even tried transcoding and proxy. No matter what format I bring in, the freezing will occur
    2) tried transcoding and the original file formats
    3) Cuda drivers are up to date. I also tried various older drivers and not installing Cuda at all. Same result all the time unfortunately.
I no longer know what I should do... I´m already thinking about buying a ATI 5770 but I´m also using Premiere a lot which works great with the Cuda cards and I do not want to invest into this old machine - still hoping that a new MacPro will arrive eventually later  this year...
    Thanks,
    Gerald

  • AVI video playback too slow

I have been working on a large project that includes about
    100 video files.
I've been able to complete this project, thanks to the help
of many people from this forum.
I finally burned the project onto a DVD yesterday, and
    everything worked properly.
However, on the pages that included video files, there was a
noticeable wait when the videos were loading.
All the video is in AVI format and was imported to Quicktime
    in the project.
I know that playback from a cd or dvd is usually slower, but
I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to attempt to speed up
    this process.
    Any input will be helpful.

Best thing to do is check what data rate the videos are.
Compare that to the speed of the drive you are playing back on.
Also make sure the video files are in the root directory, or in a
folder not too deep so that your application doesn't have to search
for them for too long. If you are playing back on Windows machines
only, it might be worth importing as AVI rather than QuickTime to
    make it a bit smoother.
Also have a look at the video cast member options inside
director - uncheck any that say "preload" or similar and check any
    that say "streaming" or similar.
Hope that helps. The bottom line is that the smaller the
filesize and data rate of the video, the faster it will run. If you
practice with some video software, you will be able to reduce both
of these whilst retaining video quality - but be carefull not to
use a codec that is not available on your playback machine(s).

  • Playback is slow on i Tunes

I have just downloaded some updates for I Tunes and since then the playback has definiteley slowed and I have no idea how to solve this.
    Can anybody help me?

Give it a while. No one here gets paid to help; everyone here is just a fellow user, helping out as they have time, knowledge and inclination. So it may take a while before someone who has suggestions regarding your problem sees your post and has time to reply. You posted again less than a half-hour since your first post which really isn't enough time and so it a bit rude. Have patience and with luck someone will shortly offer a potential solution.
While you're waiting, try searching this forum for something like "slow playback" and perhaps you'll find some suggestions already offered.

  • MPEG2 playback is slow using QTJava 7.2 on Vista

I have an MPEG2 clip, which when played back on Windows Vista using QTJava 7.2 is slow. The clip plays back fine on Windows Vista using the standalone QuickTime player. I have also tried playing back the clip on Windows XP using the same hardware as the Vista machine and it plays back fine using QTJava 7.2.
I have tested this on 3 Vista machines, which all run slow and 2 XP machines which all run fine.
The specification for QuickTimePlayer MPEG2 does not list Vista as a supported OS. Is there a release planned for the MPEG2 decoder for Vista?
    Best regards
    Richard Biswell

They playback problem is probably caused by the media the MPEG-2 file is found.
Move it off the the DVD (too slow) and directly to your HD and see if the speed is normal.
Java is not involved in any way.

  • Quicktime Pro Playback is Slow

I have the latest version of quicktime pro, v7.5.
When I playback any size .mov, it plays at less than 30 frames per second. It looks like 12 frames per second. This is a new problem with files that once played back perfectly.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks

I got the same thing. I think it's just h.264 files. About 2 moths ago they played fine on my system (1.6Ghz G5 PowerMac 1.5GRam). But now they play terribly. Divx and avi files play in Quicktime fine.
Playing a 720p h.264 file in Quicktime used to play fine (~24fps) but now its slow...
Yet the same file plays in Divx player just fine. And also the same file played in front row plays fine too.
I don't remember when this strange behavior started. I was running 10.4.11 before and i tried updating to Leopard to see if that would fix it. It didn't. Even with the updates to 10.5.4, nothing.
So i can only point the finger at Quicktime and h.264 files???

  • Music Playback Super SLOW with no audio ouput HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am seriously frustrated with this Ipod Nano 2nd Gen... I received it for Christmas and had no problems with it at first. But yesterday the battery indicated it was time to charge. At the same time, music playback became very very slow, and no audio output thru the headphones. I cahrged it completely, reinstalled the newest verson on itunes and software version for the ipod... I even restored the thing (wiping out ALL of my music, much to my dismay) and stil there is no change. Playback is about 1/10th of what it should be- very slow and still no audio output. The interesting thing is that playback is fine when I play the ipod files through itunes- but when disconnected the ipod just *****!!!! I am getting very frustrated and want to throw this thing out of the window! Please help!!!

Try troubleshooting using the steps found here. If the troubleshooting doesn't help call Apple. You have one free phone support that's good for 90 days from the date of purchase. The warranty for the iPod is good for one year.

  • Video playback to slow in published scorm packages

Hi I have created a sample e-learning course in captivate 8. Its has few content slides, one video size (usinf mp4 format size 9 mb)  and a quiz at the end. The video plays fins when previewing. However when I publish the same course into SCORM 1.2 format and plays from the LMS it takes very long time to play the video.
The video setting I have used in the project are as follows
Video type : Progressive download video
    Skin : No skin
and I selected an "Event video" type
Does anyone having similar issues with videos? If yes, Did you manage to fix it
    Can anyone please help.
    Many Thanks
    Ganesh

Exact same problem. Tried Quick Time as well, doesn't help. The CPU is killed at 100% all throughout playback. I noticed the file size is DOUBLE what it used to be before I was forced to upgrade. Now I can't watch anything....I live in Ireland but was watching Lost and Project Runway on itunes. No longer. *****. The ONLY thing that made it possible to see most of the show (was trying it on PR Black and White episode) was to watch the movie at the LOWEST playback setting, 1/2 time. This is NO way to go forward. I was just desparate to see who won. But that's my last download until this gets fixed.
Hellllooo....APPLE forum regulators, does someone want to weigh in hear and let your paying customers know what is going on??
