Playback no longer continuous - only one song at a time

I used to select a playlist and then hit play, and I'd get playback of random songs continuously. Now I have to select a song to get it to play, and only one song plays. I've tried adjusting the shuffle commands and turning shuffle on and off, but no luck. Any suggestions on how to restore continuous playback, either randomly (shuffle) or continuously (album or playlist)?

Make sure all the tracks have the box checkmarked. To check them all at once, hold the CTRL key and check any one of the boxes.

  • IPhone plays only one song at a time

After 2 weeks of the iPod feature of my iPhone working just perfectly, last night I discovered it will no longer go through a play list. No matter what I do, it plays only one song, repeatedly - either a song I choose or a song selected randomly by hitting Shuffle. Shuffle only chooses the first song randomly, after which that song plays over and over unless I manually choose another. I deleted my playlists this morning, rebooted iTunes, re-synced my playlists to the iPhone, same problem. Other than having to go through an entire Restore, are there any other options? This actually occurred out of the blue, NOT after a re-sync with the computer, therefore NOT caused by the iTunes update to 7.3.1.

THANK YOU!!! I never would have found that myself because I don't even look at albums let alone play whole albums. My playlists are favorite songs from here and there and rarely more than one or two from any particular album. I don't know how that got changed since I have never looked at an album before, didn't know there were time and shuffle markers. I must have gone bump in the dark... so thank you again!

  • Playing only one song at a time

I know this is unusual, but is it possible to only play one song at a time on an iPod?

  • Only one song at a time.

I can only play one song at a time! If I want to listen to music, I double-click on the song. After the song is finished, the next song doesn't play. Even when the song is playing and I skip to the next song, the music stops. This is really annoying. Can someone please help?

    The songs have become unchecked.
CTRL+Click on any one of the little boxes to the left of the song title and it will toggle all the checkmarks. That will let iTunes play songs one after the other.

  • After iTunes update it won't import a whole CD, only one song at a time.

I just updated iTunes on a Win 7 64 bit system and now can't import an entire CD. Import stops after 1 or 2 songs, and I get error message "Error occurred while converting the file "(song name)". The disk is not available". I can import the entire CD one song at a time, but cannot get the whole disc to import with one command. Already tried repairing the install and a few other suggestions I found online. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
Although not directly matching your symptoms see also TS2308: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install in case anything there is useful.
You could also try ripping with Windows Media Player to see if the issue is specific to iTunes, or perhaps related to the drive itself or to particular discs. It is always possible that your optical drive has started to fail and can no longer seek reliably.

  • Media Player Problem playing only one song at a time

Recently acquired a BB Curve 8330 (OS 4.5.0.127) running on a Bell Enterprise server.  I bought a SanDisk 16G Media Card.  The card is formatted, the songs are there (about 20 albums)  I can view, scroll, choose shuffle, choose an album, choose a artist or any other option.  No matter what I try, it will only play one song at a time.  Once the song plays, it just stops and stays at the end of the song.  Periodically, the entire device will shut down and restart.  I saw somewhere else in the forum to pull the battery, wait 1-2 minutes, didn't work.  There was also a post to try to downgrade the software from 4.5.0.127, but really, is that necessary?
Is there a fix, patch, upgrade, or other I can try rather than going backwards?
    Please help.  Really frustrating.

I was having the same problem.  I found out the CD's that I ripped were not in MP3 format they were in windows media audio format.  I was able to load them to my phone and they would play one at a time or when a song got to the end it would restart my phone.  Replaced WMA files with MP3 files and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

  • Searching artwork for only one song at a time

When I use the "Get Artwork" feature in iTunes it searches my entire library for artwork that i'm missing (which i don't think it does a very good job at it anyway). this takes too long and just isn't what i want. Is there a way to have it only seach for album artwork for just one song.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't believe iTunes will focus on one track when finding Cover Art.
However, I use the Album Art Widget, which will supply the cover art (if it's available on Amazon) for the track, or album currently playing.
    Very easy to use.

  • Can you tell me why we play only one song at a time and stop now???????

OK....I will try to stop seething and write clearly. DL'd ITunes V8.0 which ran great for about a week. Now when I try to play from Music library it will play the first song then stop. If I try to advance using the forward button it stops playing as well. This only happens in the Music Library. Playlists function as normal. Please tell me this isn't another Apple "Enhancement". Ugh.

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or use select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.
Usually this affects both the music library and playlists so I am not sure about it.

  • [MPD] Only one song at a time? [solved]

    Hi there.
I installed mpd and ncmpcpp this morning, that's awesome !
But apparently, I've to play each song by my self.. I mean that when ncmpcpp is playing a song, when this song ends, it doesn't read the second, I've to do it.
I don't know if I make a wrong configuration, or anything else..
    Here's my /etc/mpd.conf

  • Only one song plays at a time

I have one playlist with 300 songs. I decided to break this up to three 100-playlists. But, after doing this, i found that all of my playlists play only one song at a time. And, my advance button doesn't work. Problem never occurred before I broke up this one playlist. Thanks for your help.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - control-click on any checkbox on a Windows system will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • I tunes only plays one song at a time

just recently my itunes started playing only one song at a time. it stops playing after one song and does not go through the rest of the playlist. any ideas??

    Hi,
In the bottom left corner of the iTunes window you will see 4 symbols starting with +
Click on the 3rd symbol and you can select whether to play one song - repeat play - continuous etc.
I suspect yours is set to play one song only.

  • Remote App Only Plays One Song At A Time

When using the Remote App on my iPhone or iPad to play music from my iTunes collection over Apple TV, only one song at a time will play.  I can select the album I want to hear through the menu, select a track to play, but one that song ends the music stops... it won't continue to the next song on the album.  Any advice?

I  have the same problem using the Remote app to play music I have on my Mac mini. One song plays, then it stops. BTW - this did not happen until I upgraded the mini to Mavericks.

  • Itunes only plays one song at the time

My Itunes plays only one song at the time. If I try to play the next one by pressing the "forward" button Itunes stops playing.
    What now????
    Geertvun

    Are the songs 'checked'?
iTunes only plays the next checked song when pressing the forward button.
To check/uncheck all songs, command-click on one of the checkboxes preceding the name of the song.
    Hope this helps.

  • I use i-tunes for backing tracks with an acoustic band...how can I get a playlist to play one song at a time and not go to the next one until I manually select it?

I use i-tunes for backing tracks. How can I set up a play list to play only one song at a time and not go to the next one until I manually select it?
    Thanks

Uncheck all the songs in the playlist. iTunes will then play one song and stop.
    Regards.

  • Rebuild library one song at a time? Is there a work around?

Just got an email from Apple saying they cannot help me with this, even if i pay their service charge! Great customer service apple. My library crashed during the fix so i am attempting to rebuild my library from my hard drive and transfer it to itunes
all on the one same computer, but its not working.
I followed the instructions on Apples website:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
    But when i got to:
    7. Choose *File > Library > Import Playlist.*
    8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
      - *Mac users:* Click Choose.
I open the file and it says "some of the songs in the file "itunes Music
library.xml were not imported because they could not be found".
So, THEN I tried copying all my music files into a folder on the desktop,
    and then going:
    File>Library>Import Playlist>itunes folder (desktop) > Artists
    folder>Artist album> individual song>Open
THEN it WILL transfer to itunes library but only ONE SONG AT A TIME and is
not letting me "select all" and am having to import my songs one at a
    time!!!!
Seeing as though I have 4,000 songs, this will take me forever!!! Please
    help!!!!

You will notice this has just added the tracks as brand new tracks.  I think what Apple was trying to help you do was rescue your old library and in doing so keep things such as playcount, ratings, last played, artwork, and playlists in which things belonged.
