Playback of multichannel-files in finder
1. If I do a surround-bounce and like to prelisten to the single files (L,R,C.LS,RS,LFE) in the finder preview or open these files in quicktime.app, they all play on audio-channel 5. if i listen to a bounced stereo-file, they play back (in finder preview and QT) as usual on audio-channels 1 and 2. what could be the problem? also, AC3-monitor doesn't play the encoded file through the proper channels, but as i create the DVD and listen to it, the assignement is allright.
2. if i switch to internal audio, all files are playing allright, ch1, ch2, then i switch to MOTU 896, first its ok, with the same file but...as soon as i choose another "surround-file" it switches again to channel 5, and there it stays...misterious...any help ?

just realised, that the above described problem does not occur using the M-audio FW410 interface...so, maybe somebody with an MOTU 896 knows how to solve the problem. i wrote to MOTU as well, maybe they gonna help me.

Ive just been experimenting with creation of DNxHD .mxf files and find that using the VLC player, some display video, other don't (all playback audio) For example, a clip created with the 365x_1080p_50 settings plays back fine (ie max rate and 10 bit) but the same clip created with the 75_1080p_50 settings has no video...

All of it. That's one of the reasons that we ported Premiere Pro to be 64-bit.
Are all files of all types giving you choppy playback, or just some? If it's only some files, then tell us as much as you can about those files. -
Splitting multichannel files (5 or more channels) to mono
So why doens't logic allow me to import and split out multichannel AIFFs? I can create them with max/msp or "sound studio" a freeware app, but then I can't edit them since logic only works with stereo or mono. I am also having a hard time finding a utility that does this for me offline. Any suggestions? I do notice that Nuendo can handle and split multichannel files.

This is a handy app. Having multiple channels interleaved is so handy, and it's been a part of the aiff format for years. But why doesn't any app take advantage of this? or at least support this aspect of the format? Anyways, the trial period s 15 days for this program. enough to convert my files. if i like it i may buy it, it think it is around $70. If anyone knows of a freeware app that does the same thing, please tell -

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around. -

I changed "Move To Trash" to "Move to Trash" and selected a file. I had lost all hope, so I took a minute to prepare myself for yet another moment of deep frustration. Then I pressed F10, and bang! the file was trashed!!! It took me a couple minutes to actually believe what just happened. Thank you so much! If I could, I would "like" you as many times as I can physically hit the "Liked" button!
PS: what the heck is wrong with Apple though??? Wrong instructions, incorrect help instructions on their own site. The chances of figuring this out before having a nervous breakdown were like one in a million (approximately, I did not actually do the math). Last week, the keyboard and the trackpad stopped responding on my brand new macbook pro for a couple hours. I was not the only one with this problem. Apparently, this was from a design flaw, which means it could happen again at any time. iMovie doesn't work. TextEdit keeps crashing all the time. Emptying the trash can take hours.
Since 2000, I bought a PMac G4 Quicksilver, a used PMac G3 Blue, a used iBook G4, a used Pismo PBook G3, a used Graphite iMac G4, a used iMac G3 (green, 233MHz I think) and I already had more problems with this brand new macbook pro than will all the other macs combined... For such an expensive machine, with 16GB of RAM, that's a little dissapointing, especially from Apple. Maybe I'm just not lucky.

Is there a way to list the files in Finder by type.
By default all files and folders are listed in alphabetical order.
I, however, would like to list the subjects by type (i.e. all folders first, then single files etc.)

Sorry, I don't have my 10.3 booted at the moment, but in 10.4 in List View you would normally have a Kind column at the far right. If you click on the top of this it may sort the way you want. Also the Kind column can be moved to the left if you want. -
Opening files with Illustrator and photoshop doesn't work, i have to drag the files from finder in to the program.
This problem appears after opening 4 a 5 files, rebooting helps another 4 a 5 times and appears again.I'd recommend reposting in the Boot Camp forum, that is where the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out.

Can No Longer Drag JPG files From Finder Directly Into .fla Stage?
For the past six months I have been following a manual process to convert JPG files (exported from InDesign) into SWF files for display advertising assets.
Using pre-built FLA files as templates (configured with clicktags):
Open FLA templates (3 separate files for 3 IAB ad sizes)
Drag JPG from Finder directly into stage of FLA file, aligned to
Publish to output folder for renaming
Today, for no apparent reason, I can no longer drag anything into the stage of any FLA file. Not just the pre-built templates. Nothing will drag & drop into an FLA stage.
What I have tried:
Restarted Mac
Reset Flash preferences
What I know I can still do:
Drag files from Finder into the Library, and drag into FLA stage from there
"File > Import to Stage..."
This works but because of my naming convention it prompts to import them all each time because Flash sees the sequence
This is not another step I am willing to contend with for my manual workflow
Me and my creative team need to process hundreds of assets like this each week, so I'm very anxious to discover why functionality that was working, suddenly stopped.

I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.

My iPhone has two identical options under "iTunes wi-fi sync" that are the same computer. I only have one user on my computer, and I tried moving my iTunes file in Finder to organize it and now my library's not synced with my phone. Help?
I have the same problem. Right now my iPhone 5S shows 3 instances of the computer to which it is connected under Settings » General » iTunes WiFi Sync. I'm having problems connecting and syncing, and this is probably the cause: the phone chooses one of these connections, and it isn't the one that's actually in use. What's probably happening is that the phone and computer establish a connection using a dynamic IP address, the address becomes "disassociated" due to error, another address is associated, the phone retains each address/link, and each link is displayed as if it represents a separate computer (the fact that the name of the computer is identical is ignored, as the only thing that is considered important is the IP address). But that's all conjecture. More important, I'm not sure how to fix the problem. A network reset doesn't do it.

about 300 CD imported on my IMAC in AIFF version.
I want to create the same library on my macbook pro, but Apple lessloss to use for ipod and other device.
I import on the finder'S macbook pro all the library ( many gigabyte in AIFF version). I open Itunes, add to library the folder, on preference i set Apple lessloss, but itunes import AIFF version.
If i converte on itunes the files, i find all the two version: AIFF and Apple lessloss. I cannot remove manually all the file AIFF....
Duplicate files is impossible to remove with 11 version...Select 'Songs' then 'List'. Click on the top of the 'Kind' column to sort by type of file, thus bringing all the AIFF files together. (If you don't have a 'Kind' column, enable it in View>View Options).
Click on the top AIFF file in the list, then shift click on the bottom one to select them all. Hit the delete key. At the prompt, be sure to choose to move them to the Trash or they will disappear from the list but remain in the actual Library in the Finder. -
Can't locate imported iPhoto files in Finder
I recently imported a series of pictures into iPhoto. However I can't locate these picture files on Finder..What happened was I had to fire up iPhoto app each time and right click to 'Show File'. It said the path was user/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/...
I want to locate these files on Finder, however, when I clicked on user directory user/Pictures/iPhoto Library I can't drill down further. It seems that 'Originals' folder is missing. When I show package contents though, this folder showed up. This is a frustrating experience for me because I can't upload the pictures to the web, or easily find them.
Does anyone has any idea if this is normal behavior or is there a way I can easily access the list of pictures I've imported without firing up the iPhoto? Appreciate any response. Thanks very much.spirlie

This is perfectly normal behaviour for v7 of iPhoto. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
However, better to use one of these:
10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.
Another way to access the files with iPhoto not running, is to create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Otherwise:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
