Playback on MAC w/PP CS4

Ok I posted this a while back and got a lot of responses of "well you should be able to" so I need to see if anyone else has a solution for this issue so I don't try to recreate the wheel.
I use a MAC PRO with Adobe CS4 on the Mac OS.  My system has two screens that hold the work area.  I need to play back to a 32" Sony by either HDMI or component or whatever.  Is there someone out there with this set up who is successfully doing this playback.  Thanks!!

Try using Pr's Media Browser and import the clips from a location that has the original folder structure intact.

  • Ongoing problems with newest Mac Pro and CS4

    Hi all,
I've just switched from a Final Cut Pro editorial house to a new company that bases production around the Adobe Production Suite using Premiere Pro CS4 for all our editing needs. From what I understand about this company (and this workstation) is that Premiere Pro CS4 has been buggy on this machine and this machine only. I find this strange as it is one of the newer high end mac systems available right now and is more than capable of crushing most video that will be put into it.
    In brief a summary of the problems include;
1.) Final exports rarely work, no matter the codec, bit rate, size, duration, etc.
2.) If AME CS4 does manage to successfully export a piece it will generally have random black frames right at every cut starting about halfway through the piece.
3.) Even so much as switching sequences within a project manages to bog the system down and crash it, thus making me have to force quit the program and occasionally restart the machine.
4.) After rendering the work area the machine suddenly becomes unresponsive and thus causes another crash/force quit scenario.
5.) Certain audio tracks will play for about 2min and 30seconds and then mysteriously go silent, while a clear and present waveform is able to be seen (however occasionally premiere will cut this part of the clip off!)
I will post the hardware and software specs below but I feel it is necessary to detail why I find these problems to be extremely peculiar.
Firstly the projects we have are generally shot on the 5D MkII. I understand CS5 has the ability to play these clips back through it's mercury playback system (after it's own internal conform) at real-time and allow you to edit as if it had been transcoded traditionally. We are planning on obtaining a copy of CS5 in the near future but I am currently worried if these problems may be associated to faulty hardware.
Upon my arrival I formatted every drive and did a clean install of OSX Leopard 10.6.5 as well as a fresh install of Adobe Production Premium CS4 (updated to most recent release). This leaves out any possibility of a plug-in such as the red giant filters or sapphire filters interfering with the rendering and exporting process. Nothing seems to work. Even throwing an uncompressed 8-bit clip into AME CS4 manages to crash it.
A coworker of mine had two great ideas on the problem the other day for me to test out. The first being that it could be a bad piece of ram. I figure this could be a possibility as I don't know the history of this machine and I noticed all the RAM slots are full of 1gig sticks (and two 4gig sticks) so there could be a bad one in the bunch. I went through the process of elimination leaving one stick in at a time and testing an export (extremely time consuming) and every time it failed. His second idea was to take my project file and associated media to the creative directors computer which happens to be a two year old Mac Pro running CS4 (on OSX Leopard). He has several plug-ins installed along with tons of additional applications etc etc. Sure enough I loaded up my project file consisting of a bunch of 5D MkII footage and it played back perfectly, exported perfectly, tabbed through sequences perfectly, and did everything it should!
My question is why. Why would his older machine work with this footage on the same version of Premiere Pro CS4 and not my newer, faster, shinier editing machine? I've done everything I can to test any theory I've come up with both from my own experience as well as through internet research. Deleted PList, emptied RAM, emptied Cache, reformat and reinstall, swap RAM around, tested different hard drives, etc. The problem is not isolated strictly to the H.264 files the 5D MkII produces either, as even the uncompressed 8-bit files I've brought in won't play nicely with the system either. It's such a bummer that my first experience with Premiere Pro had to be on a machine that has these horrible quirks but I feel it has a lot to bring to the table over Final Cut Pro and I would love to find a solution to this problem so I can get back to cutting!!
Thank you in advance for all of your help!

The move from FCP to PP is a good one, however, it's only half way there.
Next, move to a Windows 7 64 based machine using an i7 950 and 12 GB RAM at a minimum (with a GTX 460 or better as a seriously considered option), and then upgrade to CS5.
Chances are more than excellent that doing will resolve all your issues.

  • MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED

    Hello,
I'm interested to find out how to MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED. Its my intention to buy the upgrade not thru
download, but purchasing the dvd's needed eventually used if necessary.
    Thank you

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

Win 7 on Mac with Parallels leaves a lot of variables to contend with. All I can tell you is that everything works wonderfully with Boot Camp. Have you checked Parallels forums and newsgroups to see if anyone else has experienced this?

  • Can not seem to print from 64 bit mac osx photoshop cs4 in landscape

we have like 5 mac computers in the building and about 20 pcs.
all the pcs and all the 32 bit macs work fine.
the 2 64 bit macs will not print in landscape only from photoshop cs4
i can print from indesign in landscape and illustrator in landscape.
somewhere i read that i could remove the preferences file and that would maybe fix it.
    that did nothing.
i have tried a variety of different files and sizes.
my design artists are specialized in photoshop and it was working up to about 2 weeks ago.
nothing has changed in this time.
so i am wondering what could cause this.
    please help.

What is a 64 bit Mac? It might be easier to describe the kitty version of these Macs and if all have been fully patched in system software and in programs.

  • Progressbar on Mac AE CS3 & CS4

Hey guys. Weird problem here. Seems Progressbar update in CS3 and CS4 (not sure about CS5) doesn't work properly on MAC. But I guess this is a known issues.
Any ways, I am building my progress bar window like this:
    var PBWin = new Window ('palette', 'Progress Window', undefined);
    var ProgressBar = PBWin.add('progressbar', undefined, 0, 100);
and later in my code in some for/loop I am incrementing ProgressBar values.
All works nice on CS6 and above, but cannot figure out how to make them work on CS3 and CS4. Any ideas?
I searched forum and found Update() option. But this only works for Window objects. However, if I change my "Palette" to "Window" that problem still appeas.
So is the a workaround with ProgressBars on MAC specific that work on CS3 and CS4?
From Peter Kahrel document scriptui-2-2.pdf if says:
Note: in scripts that use progress bars, you cannot set app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw to false. If you do, the progress bar doesn't display correctly. This is on Macs only.
But that's irrelevant to AE, is it? Becouse it throws me an error when I try to add app.scriptPreferences.enableRedraw = true.

He didn't use Mocha, these clips aren't too recent...
Well, I know that the animated parts were done literally by hand, stop-motions, then saved as little transparent movies or animated gifs then loaded onto the filmed video..
So you think there isn't tracking really?? How could I make something pop up a book like this, when you look at it in slow motion, the animated shapes actually change perpectives and sort of disappear into the book... Does simple motion tracking tweek the "tracking object" as its tracking area interpolates??
    Thanks

  • H.264 playback stutter in Premiere Pro CS4

    Details:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    3GB RAM
    32 bit Windows Vista SP2
I'm having problems with the playback of H.264 video files in Premiere Pro CS4. The files are 1280x720 60FPS clips, ranging in size from 8MB to 40MB, and they were shot with a Kodak Zi8 handheld HD camera.
The clips play fine with the following players on my computer -- VLC, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic. However, when importing the clips into Premiere and viewing them either in the preview pane or the timeline, the video is stuttering heavily. This is impeding my editing work as the only way to smoothly view the clips in Premiere is to drop them in the timeline and render the project, but I obviously can't work like this because I cannot render the entire project every time I drop in a new clip, or add an effect, or rearrange a clip, etc.
I'm at a loss as to a solution here, any help would be appreciated.

    O.K
    Here is what I did.
I just dumped your clip into a timeline I was working on at that particular time - which just happened to be a P2 720p seq.. You dont need DVCPRO CODECS. Use what the demo says. HDV
I only did this to see exactly how compliant your clip was.   It turned out to be compliant and editable in an un matched timeline ( Good start).
I throw all sorts of extra stuff at this timeline ( its my base setting for what I shoot and export from)  but  I usually have to render the extra stuff  so as I can play them  back smoothly.  Thats the way it works. One day ( god forbid) there maybe a preset for a camera like you are using.
I have been doing it for years and rendering is a fact of life.  I am dealing with Professional footage including Prores and H264 from D5's etc as well as
my own HD footage and footage from 35mm film cameras.
Your clips are kind of hybrid so you need to expect this.  Forget about the demo.  Deal with what you have ,convert them or use a different camera.

  • [Mac] strange happenings CS4

System etc: Mac ppc G5 dual, OSX 10.4.11
Symptoms affect CS4 (AI, PS, Indd, but not Acrobat or Bridge, oddly), but not other non-adobe apps that I use. AI is the worst affected: it does not remember the last place saved or visited, but always defaults to "documents" or the generic network menu. (I work off external drives for the most part). Persistent menus in the workspace, like the PMS swatchbooks, are lost every time the app is closed. Attempting to ever use the central scroll menu on a "save as" results in instant crash. PS and Indd tend to just have memory failure and crashes on using the scroll menu rather than the sidebar navigation.
I have read about some of these issues in other posts on these forums, and the suggested cures, such as deleting any general mac/adobe shared folders and plists etc in the various libraries. I've done this twice, uninstalled twice and even clean installed the whole machine after deleting the affected progs from the HD. Java is a PITA to reinstall!
I'm fairly certain I can't have cleaned the machinery out as thoroughly as I should have the last time I did this. So the reason for the query is: before I strip this thing down again, does anyone know/have experience of this kind of problem and have a kind of hitlist for what may cause any of the problems? At one time I was blaming Bridge, but I'm not so sure now.
    Help is gratefully appreciated!

  • Running CS3 on a Mac that has CS4 on it already

Due to a glitch in CS4 that scrambles data in a data merge, it's been suggested to do the merge in CS3, (at least till there's a fix for CS4). Can I install CS3 on my Mac that's already got CS4 on it?
Should I open a new user account on the Mac and put CS3 on it? I already installed CS4 and told it to make it available to all user accounts on the Mac. Will I need to de-install CS4, then re-install, but only for 1 user account?

Installing CS3 will glitch CS4 and require CS4 to be reinstalled. After that, I expect both to work. It's rare to see people wanting to install older versions when newer versions are installed, so there's less experience. Usually one has CS3, keeps it installed,  then installs CS4. That's what I've got, and both work fine. Worst case scenario is you'll have to wipe CS4, install CS3, then install CS4.

  • Error 150:30 License Expired. Mac OS X & CS4 and Time Machine

    Hi,
My old Macbook Pro just died and I bought a new Macbook Air. When setting up the Air, I installed everything on the computer from a back up harddrive using Time Machine. Everything on the new computer transfered perfectly except for my Adobe Creative Suite CS4. Everytime I want to open a pdf in Acrobat or an image in Photoshop it give me an Error 150:30 License Expired. I know this license is not expired as I bought full creative suite upfront years ago. It was directly from Adobe and I was sent the package of DVDS. I have since lost the box they came in (****!) and therefore dont have the license number. Is there any other way of looking up this information? ORRRRR is there any way to uninstall and then reinstall from that backup where it won't give me the error message. On one forum I saw that this is a common problem when rebooting a computer from Time Machine, but there was no solution given. Can anyone here give me a better answer? Thank you!

Here's the answer. It works. Just carefully follow the instructions. You will be using Terminal to run the python script for 10.7 and above.

  • Cursor problems with new mac pro and cs4

I am having a major problem with my cursor in photoshop cs4 extended.
any tool i select as soon as i touch it to the canvas the tool turns to a black mac arrow cursor.
this is extremely annoying and makes brushing anything almost impossible as i can't see the edge of my brush because it turns to an arrow as i try to use it. (it starts out at the correct size before i actually brush with it)
i have my brush set as normal and precise tools are set but this problem happens with any brush and tool setting
I have tried turning off Open GL advanced redraw, all that.
I have the stock nvidia gt 120 - is it a video card problem? should i have gotten the ati 4870?
    should i reinstall cs4?
my system is a base octo 2.26 with 6 GB ram - no scratch disk setup yet - waiting on the drives and more ram to come.
    thanks all...

um...not to detract from the other users problem but mine has nothing to do with displacement of the cursor
i have uninstalled CS4 suite, reinstalled it, repaired permissions and deleted prefs.
I am still getting the arrow whenever I click the cursor with any tool to the canvas.
I am a pro p-shop retoucher - this is making CS4 essentially UNUSABLE - i will only be able to use CS3 and all this after I spent 600 for the "upgrade"?
I have to teach at a retouching seminar soon and i will have a very poor working knowledge of CS4 as a result
I can't find any similar complaints at nvidias site or on here
    any help is still needed!

  • OS Maverick for Mac and Adobe CS4 compatibility and problem fixes

Is Adobe CS4 Creative Suite which includes Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Bridge, etc.
compatible with OS Maverick upgrade for Mac?  I want to upgrade my Mac Book Pro.

It's not per se 100% compatible, but many people run it still. The biggest hurdle will be re-configuring your OSX so legacy apps don't bump into permission issues with user folders such as Library. Also it seems to be impossible to produce PDFs under certain conditions and CS4 apps don't recognize most modern printers.
