Playback on Vista

I've authored a DVD via FCP - Compressor - DVD St Pro - all latest versions. It works fine on mac, Win XP PCs, and on set-top DVD players, but my client tells me it won't play on their Vista build. Surely this is to do with Vista, not anything to do with the build. Has anyone experiences probs like this?
Any advice gratefully received!

Welcome to the Boards
If the DVD is running on Win XPs, Macs and set top players, the chances are that the build is probably good. So it could be related to Vista or how they are trying to play it back. Have they tried opening the DVD in whatever player they are using? Also there is a chance that it is a bad burn, but if the other machines are playing them...usually if there is a bad burn one or two playback mechanisms may compensate, but not all of them.
Have they tried another DVD Playback software? Any error messages report? How did you burn the DVD?

  • Jumpy playback on Vista

A week or two ago, I got home from work, opened up iTunes to listen to some music, and the blayback is INCREDIBLY jumpy. It's to the point where it's unlistenable.
I called Apple Support, who weren't the greatest deal of help, and they told me to uninstall iTunes, Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device Service or whatever, then reinstall the package of all 3.
Well, I did that before they even told me that, and they insisted I try again... So I did, and it's still knackered... Any suggestions? It's an absolute pain!!!

  • Jumpy playback in vista x64

i just built a new computer, and it's having problems playing back .mov files smoothly. the same .mov file plays back just fine in vlc. however, i need the scrolling quicktime offers.
    so far i've tried:
    -latest quicktime version
-disabling directX and all related options
    -running in safe mode
    -updated video card drivers
-tried a few old quicktime versions.
    computer specs:
    intel i7
    12 gigs memory
    quadro fx 3500
    thanks!

the file was a game cinematic. a coworker downloaded it, so i cant provide the link right now. but it was the quicktime trailer for star wars: the old republic. quicktime lists the codec as h264, and vlc lists it as avc1.

  • Jumpy playback?

I was wondering... Has anyone else been experiencing problems with playback in iTunes? I have a ton of mp4 videos that I try to play using the video player in iTunes, and it's pretty painful to try and watch... It pauses every second or so, and skips sections of video as it tries to catch up. It's somewhat better playing them in Quicktime. Song playback in iTunes has been kind of jumpy as well. The mpeg files I have for the movies play great in Windows Media Player though. My computer runs extremely well in every other application, so I was wondering if there was a known bug for iTunes playback in Vista or if there was some setting I was overlooking.

I can't help myself, but have you worked through the article on video playback performance?

  • Midi playback, Audio Input tracks, record limit

I just bought logic express and Im having a few problems.
    1. I like to do live recording and Im using an Alesis multimix 16 firewire mixer. I checked into Logic express's specs and it says it can handle 12 input tracks, but if I try to arm more than 9 of my firewire input tracks They disarm themselves. 9 is a lot but i bought it expecting to have 12 and thats important to me. any way I can get the other ones to work?
    2. whenever I play my midi keyboard and record, or whenever I add loops to the software instrument tracks I get no sound on playback. ive updated my software and I cant figure out what else to do.
    3. I havent tried to record a concert yet, but how long can I record without it stoping, and is there anyway I can extend that without purchasing a FW hardrive, I have a USB one but i dont know that that would help.
    thanks in advance
    -brandon

I can't get input audio to playback in Vista either, and it works fine in XP on the same machine. I have a X-Fi Elite pro and ALL of my inputs show as "currently unavailable" in the Vista recording devices dialog.
I'm sure Vista made it a pita for sound card companies but come on, it's been months now since release and so far the Vista drivers for X-Fi are mediocre at best and are lacking a lot of the features found on XP.
Not to mention the boxes show "Vista ready" or whatever.
Anyway a solution to this problem would be appreciated!

  • Can any one help me with CD/Audio disc playback problem on media center m8200n running Windows Vista

I have HP Media Center m8200n Dest top running WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 32 BIT edition. It  has MEDIA CENTER and MEDIA PLAYER. I experience problems with the computer being able to play CD music discs.  What happens is that the Disc will play only for 63 seconds exactly and then stop playing the track, the player will then skip tracks, settle on another one, play it for a few moments and then skip to the end and then play nothing. It gives me an error message that it cannot read the disc.  This happens with any and every standard store bought CD new or used. These CDs also do play on my laptop running basically same operating system.  This happens whether I trying to Play a disc or burn the disc to the hard drive.  The drives work great though as they do play DATA discs all the way through. MP3 discs play fine.  It also plays the DVD movies with no problem. Windows media player doesn't make it work, also installed VLC player and REALPLAYER to try some other players and they also don't work for music, only DVDs. They all only produce 63 seconds of music play back  from a disc. I've already tried Changing ENHANCEMENTS, UPDATING DRIVERS, UNINSTALLING THE DISC DRIVE and then re-installing back into WINDOWS but none of that helped. SYSTEM came with the integrated REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO on the mother boad for multi channel playback options and I've downloaded those updated drivers again but that doesn't do anything.  Thinking it might be a hardware drive problem I purchased a new LG BLU-RAY DRIVE/BURNER super multi drive which plays fantastic for any video format from Blu-Ray to regular DVD format with the Power DVD software but the machine is causing even this new drive to have the same problem with the audio and it cuts out playing the audio disc within the same 63 seconds running audio disc. . There seems to be a software glitch and I'm wondering if you can help.  Also the sound card seems to work perfectly fine. I downloaded I-Tunes and copied over audio files to the computer via my flash drive and when I play those files from the hard drive, or even the sample windows media files which reside on the hard drive in MY MUSIC, all files play through perfectly, fully, and with great sound. Audio out jacks in back of computer work fine as also does the front head phone jacks upfront. Something in the software when playing a audio disc/file through the dic drives???? I've got hundreds of CD and it's a bummer not beng able to lay them through the system. Does anyone think moving from VISTA PREMIUM to a upgraded version like ULTIMATE or even going up to Windows 7 might solve problem??? What about the 32 bit verses 64 bit editions??? My system should be able to run in the 64 bit frame work also. THANK YOU in advance!!!

    Hi,
All dimms work individually?  Did you run a bootable memory diagnostic to determine the reliability? Did you run a diagnostic on the hard drive?  I believe that your PC came with PC Doctor and that you can create a bootable diagnostic disk. Did you create that disk?  Be sure to purchase memory dimms from a manufacturer that will stand behind their product with a guarantee such as Crucial, Corsair or Kingston. Buy directly from the manufacturer and they will stand behind the guarantee. Be sure that all of the dimms are identical. Use CPU-Z to determine that the specifications are indeed identical.
You have some options to consider once you can stablize your PC for updating the BIOS.
Locate a hard drive and use the HP external recovery media to build a VISTA system. -- safest method
Use a VISTA repair disk and at the command prompt try executing the HP BIOS update (Admin). -- safe
Try a bootable BIOS update process as suggested at this site. --  less safe but doable

  • Vista 64-bit - Determining gapless playback crash

    hey guys and girls
just bought a new desktop computer, intel duo quadcore processor, 4 gb ram = it can run itunes (or so you'd think). have all my music copied directly from my old computer via external hard-drive. have taken it off the external and onto the internal drive of the new computer.
added all my music to the library and it set about trying to determine the gapless playback information, at this stage it will stop randomly and will freeze itunes then i have to restart itunes and when it opens it tries to determine the gapless playback again. more often than not i just tell it to stop trying before it freezes but i want to fix this problem. i have selected all files-->get info--> and set gapless album to NO but it still tries to determine gapless playback.
anyway i can stop it from trying to determine gapless playback. or any solutions to the problem would be greatley appreciated.

  • ITunes 7.1 in Vista - Extremely poor video playback

Has anyone had problems watching movies on the 7.1 version of iTunes with Vista. I am using Home Premium Edition on a Core2Duo with 2 GBs of RAM and a GeForce 7900 PCie. The system is about 3 weeks brand new.
This is the first install of iTunes on this machine. Movie playback appears to be okay in the first half our to 45 minutes, then it get so choppy, and then it stops all together.
Now Movies purchased from MovieLink play flawlessly. Windows Media Player has zero problems. Just iTunes.
Any tips to get this working before I just uninstall iTunes? It's getting worse and worse all the time.
    Best,
    Alex

It would be useful to look at the Direct X Diagnostics results from affected systems:
    1. Click on the Start menu.
    2. Enter dxdiag in the Start Search field and press Enter.
The DirectX Diagnostic Tool should open and scan your configuration. When it is done...
    3. Click Save All Information.
    4. Save the file to the desktop.
    5. Email me a copy of that file.

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • ITunes + Windows Vista + Games = Unsatisfactory playback experience

    My system details:
    Core 2 Duo E6600
    2GB RAM
Windows Vista Ultimate w/ latest updates
    iTunes 7.5.0.20
    NVIDIA 7950GT video card w/ 512MB memory
    Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Soundcard w/ latest drivers
10k RPM SATA drive for OS
10k RPM SATA drives for data (where music resides)
You'd think this would be enough to play music on iTunes without skipping. You would be wrong.
With only Firefox & iTunes running, it still manages to skip/crackle on playback when loading webpages/tabs.
    What gives?
Only iTunes does this, other applications manage playing 128kbit without any problems. E.g. WinAmp, Windows Media Player.
Doesn't happen in Mac OS X on my iTunes there, so clearly there are still "issues" with playback on Windows.

Numerous people have reported problems playing iTunes videos on Vista if the videos are stored on SATA disk drives.
From what I can tell looking at HP's website, almost all new HP systems include SATA disks. If you don't know whether your system has SATA disks, tell us the exact model number and we can probably figure it out.
If you do have the iTunes videos on SATA disks problem, there is currently no known solution.

  • MPEG-2 playback audio syncing issue (works in Vista but not in OS X)

    My setup:
    - Mac Mini CoreDuo 1.83GHz, 1 GB RAM
    - Elgato EyeTV 410 DVB-T
    - Sony KDL-46W2000 FullHD LCD-TV (1920x1080p)
I have a rather complicated problem with audio-video synchronization at MPEG-2 playback. I've spent a lot of hours on troubleshooting in the last weeks without coming up with a solution.
I've installed Vista using Bootcamp on my Mac Mini, and in Vista everything works fine, so it's definitely a problem in OS X and not a hardware issue.
I have a Mac Mini CoreDuo 1.83GHz 1GB RAM. I have done a reinstall of OS X and updated it in Software Update until Software update says my "computer is up to date". So it's completely fresh without any third party software.
As display I'm using my brand new Sony KDL-46W2000 FullHD LCD-TV connected via a DVI-HDMI cable. I don't have to do any custom settings for this display. OS X outputs 1920x1080 progressive without me having to do any additional settings.
The issue is that when I watch DVDs the picture is delayed on the screen about 200 millisec compared to the audio. This isn't the case on all DVDs, but on several DVDs that I've tested. I don't know the differences between the DVDs. It's the same problem if I use VLC to playback so it's not just Apple DVD Player. And it doesn't matter if I use the S/PDIF output to let my receiver decode the audio or if I use the internal speaker in my Mac Mini.
Now to the most interesting part...
In addition to DVD playback problem, I experience the exact same problem with Elgato's EyeTV. But ONLY when using their deinterlace method "Progressive scan". If I use "Always" or "Motion-adaptive" the audio and video syncs just fine.
If I playback other media-files (in Quicktime or VLC) like mov, H264/x264 or XviD everything works just fine and as expected.
As far as I can see the problem only seems to affect MPEG-2 playback. And judging on the troubleshooting with EyeTV deinterlacing and/or progressive scan seems to be involved in some way.
I also tested EyeTV on a PowerBook G4 connected to my TV, and it shows the exakt same problem.

I don't know what causing the problem, but if you play the files with VLC you can adjust the audio synchronization in its "Audio" preferences if you check the "Advanced" box at the bottom-left.

  • Windows Vista - Sound Blaster 24 Bit Usb - No Microphone Playback Real Time Kara

    Hi,
I don't no if this problem was just discussed in another thread, if so please giveme simply the link...
I'm Italian, so sorry for my poor english or bad translation...
    PC: Laptop, "Toshiba Satellite A 200 24E"
OS: "Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack " - All update done.
Dev.: "External Sound Blaster 24 Bit Usb" - Driver downloaded from Creative Web Site
At the very beginning I tried the internal Sound Card (Realtek) to do karaoke in spare time, but couldn't hear anything coming from Microphone. So I tried to buy an external sound card. The result is the same.
On "Record Device" I can see the Microphone Device, the level is on top, when I speak in the microphone I can see the green bar light up, if I record my voice I can hear myself when I playback, but no sound in real time.
I read that a lot of people have similar problems, but everone solves in a different manner...
    I tried:
    - I read in other forums advices about to do something like unmute microphone on "Audio playback devices" >> "Speaker" >> "Levels", but I don't see any checkbox, I can see only Speaker Level Bar...
    - As read in other websites, to add a registry key (something like EnableInputMonitor in a specific path), but nothing changes. I cannot find other Device, not in Playback Devices, and not in Record Devices.
Please help, all was great with the same microphone, on old Packard Bell Laptop, old Sound Blaster mp3+ usb, and old Windows Xp.
If no solution, I 'm going on buy an old laptop with Windows xp, or an external Mixer, but I'm disappointed on spending more money...

    well ?

  • Vista/Win7 Bit-Matched Playback over SPDIF (and Crystalizer)

I have an SB XFi XtremeMusic and use it for my Microsoft Media Center all the way from XP MCE, Vista and now Windows 7 Ultimate (which by the way is robust, pretty mature with most (not all) issues sorted).
. I want to achei've automatic bitperfect output over SPDIF, the 'Bit-Matched Playback' in Audio Creation Mode option is there in both Vista + Win7. IE When playing music 44.k, TV/Videos 48K without using ASIO or WASAPI as Media Center does not support. However the 'Bit-Matched Playback' option appears to do nothing to the output other than disable the Crystalizer option (which doesn't work anyway over SPDIF), it always remains on the default format selected on the audio endpoint properties. Why is the option presented if it doesn't work? I understand in great detail the big differences in the XP/Vista+Win7 audio architecture and know dynamic sample rate switching worked on XP with some cards.
    2. Also on a completely different tact why do none of the enhancements (mainly Crystalizer) not work on SPDIF if default Windows audio endpoint? (I know this is completely contrary to point above/audiophiles).
Really if neither of the above two points can work or be addressed then having an expensi've XFi card for SPDIF output is pointless as give no benefit over onboard SPDIF.
    Cheers,
    Simon

When i make the soundtest (5.) in vista everything is okay.
    Problem 2:
I want spdif ac3 passthrough. I have an external AV Reciever conneted through SPDIF.
When i play an DVD on my computer, i want ac3 passthrough over spdif.
But the card only makes Stereo over spdif

How can i enable CMSS 2 I only see CMMS in creative audio console!
When i Put the stereo fokus in CMMS the the boxes behind me.. it hase no effekt!! can put this regulator to the left ore to the right side and nothing happend
Problem It's the 2.2.0002 drivers. The 2.5.0002 ones are better, but Creative never released an installer for Audigy series.... Problem 2Windows Vista 64bit doesn't support SPDIF pass through. There's a chance it might work with the "dell driver trick" but the driver release notes clearly state it's not supported. Problem 3It's the 2.2.0002 drivers. The 2.5.0002 ones are no better. CMSS 3D effect only at the moment.Hope this helps

  • Poor coverflow browsing and video playback on Windows Vista

I built a new computer recently and upgraded from XP to Vista. The machine is a 2.4GHZ Core 2 Quad 6600 with 2gig of DDR2 ram and a 8800GTS 360mb; No lightweight by any means.
However, when I go to view albums in cover flow or play videos I bought in the iTunes Store the playback is actually worse than my previous computer, an Athlon 64 3000.
Has anyone else had a similar experience or found a fix?

    Read this discussion thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5391182#5391182
I found that disabling Readyboost on a recently inserted SD card caused my problem. Disabling this resolved all my choppy video issues.
Others have found that using either an external HDD or a drive seperate to the OS resolved their problem.

  • OpenAL Vista playback not working, WinXP is fine

I've written some code using OpenAL to do regular audio playback and streaming playback. The only real difference between the two methods is how I setup the buffer:
    alSourceQueueBuffers(m_uiSourceID, iNumBuffersQueued, &m_auiBuffer[0]); //for streaming
    alSourcei( m_uiSourceID, AL_BUFFER, uiBufferID); //for regular playback
My audio is saved in Ogg Vorbis file format and everything works fine under WinXP. When I try my program on a Vista machine the streaming audio plays back but the non-streaming audio does not! No error messages either!
Now here is the kicker, I converted the audio files to the WAV format and re-ran the exact same code. Now the audo plays back fine under Vista!
Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong with the Ogg Vorbis audio files Why will they stream on Vista but not playback if I use alSourcei to setup the buffer in Vista

I have stripped down my program to a 50 lines of code to isolate the problem and here is what I am left with. You can download all the code for VS2005 from my website: http://www.marek-knows.com/Misc/testAudio.rar
On WinXP the program runs and plays the sound properly. On Vista I get no error messages but when I go to play the sound I get nothing coming out of the speakers and the program gets stuck in the last while loop. OpenAL says that file is playing but it isn't and it never exits the loop.
Does anyone know how I can fix this
