Playback PAUSE when Headphone Jack is removed

iPod works great, one feature I'm wondering if you can disable - playback pausing when the headphone jack gets pulled out. Any way around this?

Hey there,
As of right now, you cannot disable it. Supposedly, there is a hardware mod you can pull off to make it happen, but there is no direct way of doing it. Sorry. Hope this helps.

  • MacBook speaker disabled when headphone jack is removed

I've been having increasing difficulty getting my MacBook's speaker to work when I remove the headphone jack.
The speaker icon goes grey, rendering the speaker 'unavailable.'  So far, I've eventually been able to restore the speaker by jiggling the jack, but the amount of jiggling I have to do before I have success with that is increasing, and I'm expecting to get to a point where it just won't happen.
An Apple Store employee I spoke to, and claimed to be familiar with the problem, said that the repair for this involves replacement of the entire logic board.
Does anyone know whether that's accurate?
If so, are there any other workable fixes for this?
I'm not eager to replace an otherwise perfectly functioning logic board just because of a faulty headphone jack connection problem.  (In fact, given my MacBook's vintage, the fact that it's well out of warranty, and the cost of replacing a logic board, I won't even be considering doing that.)
    Thanks.

I keep a matchstick handy because the wood end is just the right size and works well to move around til you can trigger that red light to go off in the jack.
Just a thought, although sometimes I get tired of doing it...
Thanks. For the time being, I can still get the speaker back by jiggling the headphones plug.  But, like you, "sometimes I get tired of doing it".  And the number of jiggles required is unpredictable and seems to be growing.
I had also seen the following remedy, which unfortunately has not worked for me.  Maybe you'll have better luck.  Then you can retire your matchsticks.
Is there a red light coming out of your headphone jack? If so the Mac is stuck in optical audio mode.
Try plugging in/unplugging headphones or the following longer steps:
    Plug your headphones back in.
Play a bit of sound through them (e.g., a song), then stop the sound.
    Make sure Preferences is quit.
Launch Preferences and open the Sound pane.
While the Sound pane is open and set to Headphones, pull out the headphone plug from the jack.
It will reset itself to "Internal Speakers" and you are good to go.

  • IPod NOT pausing when headphones are removed

This feature has been entirely sporadic on my iPod. Sometimes when I remove the headphones, it pauses. Sometimes it doesn't. The software is the latest version, the iPod's in great condition, something just seems to be malfunctioning. I probably wouldn't complain about this, but I use it in my car with a tape deck adapter and in order to turn it off so it doesn't die, I just pull out the headphone jack, expecting it to pause. And then, of course, it doesnt....which *****....
    Anyway, any ideas?

if a restore hasn't fixed it then it's probably a hardware problem. is it still under guarantee? you probably need to take it to apple.

  • Ipod does not pause when headphones are removed

My Ipod touch 3g does not pause when playing music when my headphones are pulled out or removed. Can someone help with this problem? Thanks in advance

  • [Strange] Nano pauses when headphones re-inserted!

Don't know if any of you are getting this strange behavior as well, but my nano pauses a currently playing song as the headphones are re-inserted, but it doesn't pause when removing the headphones...
Now, don't get me wrong - this is a really cool feature (much like 3rd party car radios) but this seems a little bit backwards to me.
Shouldn't the nano pause upon REMOVAL of the headphones and resume playback upon INSERTION?

Mine behaves in the same way as Liquid Rhino's - I too thought that seems backwards. Having said that, I love my Nano so much that I didn't give it much thought...

  • IMac force select "Display Audio" when headphone jack is in use

I have a new 2012 iMac and Thunderbolt Display.  I use the Display Audio from time to time, but also use a set of high quality speakers plugged in to the headphone jack.
Some applications, like Chrome (Google Hangout, Gmail phone calls) will default to using the Display Audio as the speaker.  If I have the headphone jack in use (using the desk speakers), then the Audio System Preferences will NOT let me select the "Display Audio" device.  It will immediately highlight "Headphone" again.  The problem is if I want to change the "Display Audio" volume, I have to remove the cable from the headphone port, then change the audio, then plug it back in the headphone port.
    It's quite annoying.
Is there any way to change this?
As a second request, is there an app that allows you to select which audio device applications will use?  Like, if I wanted to change Chrome from using the Display Audio (not sure why thats the default anyway), or another application to only use the headphone port...

    Hi,
The problem with the selection of the headphone port is something I reported to Apple back in October 2012.  After some time, the reply came back that this was intended behaviour, and my bug report was subsequently marked as, "behaves correctly"!  I agree with you that this is a pain in the backside and certainly appears to be bug-like behaviour.  If you can take the time, I'd ask you to file your own bug report on this matter here.  Perhaps it'll help cause a re-think.  You should be able to log in with your Apple ID.
As for your second question: many people are asking this now.  Rogue Amoeba made such a thing years ago, but it doesn't work on modern, Intel-based Macs.  Maybe they'd consider updating it if enough people asked?
For Chrome, you can use ChromeLauncherWithExtraAudio - I've tried it and it works fine, though once you've changed the audio output on launch you have to quit and re-launch to change it again.  If you want to choose where to send audio from movies, radio and so forth you could start using VLC, which completely ignores the system audio settings, and lets you choose from any connected audio outputs.

  • Video Playback Pauses when streaming from iTunes to itunes

    Hi,
I have a 2011 iMac running OS X Mavericks Server and I use this as my main iTunes library computer.  I also have a 2013 (latest model) MacBook Air running Mavericks.  My WiFi network comprises of 2x Airport Express's, both the latest models and configured for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz frequencies.
Using Home Sharing, I like to stream video from my iMac's iTunes library to my MacBook Air.  The problem is that playback pauses every few minutes.  The only way to resume playback is to close the video window and open the video again.  This problem occurs regardless of video quality (SD, 720 or 1080) and on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi settings...  On the odd occasion this problem doesn't happen at all.
I experienced this problem before upgrading to mavericks so I don't think its mavericks related.  And I don't experience this playback issue when streaming to ipad mini, iphone, or apple tv... It only happens when streaming from imac to macbook air...
Please help if you have a solution.

    Try:
ffmpeg -i rtsp://localhost:8554/test.sdp -acodec copy -vcodec copy -re -f flv "rtmp://168.187.121.71/livepkgr/mystream&adbe-live-event=liveevent"
I don't strream ffpmeg from my source, but I stream h264 from my source, and this works when transcoding.
    Hope this helps!

  • Playback pauses when the window loses focus.  Can I fix that?

When going through footage, I might be multitasking -- talking on chat, looking at to do lists, etc.  Whenever I tab away to some other application, playback pauses in Adobe Premiere Elements 13.  This is really annoying -- any way to turn that off?

    JustinPierce
Your type of situation has been written about before and remains the same up to and including the current version 13.
What you describe is what it is. There is no way to change that behavior. The Premiere Elements playback in progress stops when you
switch to another application. No user turn off switch to prevent this from happening.

  • Headphone sound option gets stuck even when headphones have been removed.

I use my headphone jack to play music from my pre on my car stereo.  My pre is also bluetoothed for phone calls through my vehicle.  The phone constantly gets stuck on the headphone option and will not switch to bluetooth even when the jack has been disconected.  I then have to shut down the bluetooth and restart it to get the phone to work.  What is the point of bluetooth if I have to manually fiddle with it while I am driving.  The bluetooth should overide the headphone jack and then drop back to headphone when the call is over.  My palm treo had absolutely no problems doing this.  I have been complaining about this for awhile now perhaps on the wrong boards, under bluetooth sync problems.  Please find a fix for this as it is really anoying.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Bell)

Yes I did try that when I had the no sound issue and it fixed it.  This is a different issue.  The real issue is that I cannot reliably use my bluetooth if I use any other option wether it be headphone or speaker or regular phone for that matter.  The phone will get stuck on whatever option was being used and won't go to bluetooth even when you click on it in the phonecall mode.  I have been complaining about this from the day I purchased the phone.  I had complained about this at an earlier date in the bluetooth syncing issues section of the site not realizing at the time that this is not a sync issue but something else.  I should be able to have my headjack plugged in and the bluetooth should overide ride it when a phone call comes in.  My palm trio never had this issue and was being used in the same fassion.  I really need a fix for this as I am probably in my car most of the time  using my Pre exactly as I described to you.   Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I never know when it's going to do it.  I use my phone for business so this can also be a bit embarassing when I can't pick up a clients call or I have to hang up on a client because I can't get the phone to switch over.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Auto-pause when headphones come out of jack

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the feature on the nano where if the headphones get disconnected, the playback automatically pauses? It's a nifty feature, but I think it's too much of a hassle to take it out of my pocket every time the headphones come out.
Thanks for any help in advance!

think it's too much of a hassle to take it out of my pocket every time the headphones come out.
How do you plug the headphones back in without taking it out of your pocket?
And what are you doing that yanks the cord out? That't not good for it.

  • Playback pauses when Spotify regains network connectivity

The past couple days, the iOS client (3.5.0.1069) has been pausing playback whenever I'm in the NYC subway and my phone regains mobile connectivity. It actually changes music playback state to paused (I can click play on the lockscreen to restart music.) It happens pretty reliably (certain stations have signal, and it's always pausing at those stations a few seconds after the phone establishes a network connection.

If it helps; this is on an iPhone 6 w/iOS 8.4 (12H143)

  • Playback pauses when tabbing to another program

Is there any way to disable this feature? I need it to keep playing regardless of what program I'm using.
Right now placyback halts if I click anywhere out of the program.

I didn't know it was already released.
So it can be disabled in CS6? In what menu and what's the option named?

  • Headphone jack causes play/pause

It appears that if I flex the headphones jack (not the wire, the solid jack part in the phone) it causes the iPhone to play and pause, hang up calls, or trigger voice control. I tried this with the headphones that came with the iPhone and a pair of the Apple In-Ear headphones I bough a while ago. Neither of the headphones cause any problems on my iPad, so I can only really assume that it is being caused by some part of the actual iPhone. Has anyone else had problems with this? It ends up happening to me a lot, as causing any tension on the jack will cause things to happen.

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions,
It should be pretty hard to flex the solid jack inside the iPhone. And I bet any device would behave unusually if you stress it in a way that isn't normal.
You can see the rings in the headphone jack that allow the controls on the headset to adjust volume, skip tracks, and end calls. So, if you were to hit those controls in abnormal ways they would behave abnormally.
Is anything happening when you use the iPhone normally? Try shooting some compressed air in the headphone jack to remove any lint or dirt that you might not be able to see.
