Playback pauses

when I view a quicktime movie it will stop for a moment then continue playing seemingly at random. QT does this with varisous formats .mov, .avi, .mpg, etc... I am using Quicktime Pro 7.0.1 on a G5 (2x2.3Ghz) with Tiger 10.4.2. Thank you!
update, this wasn't fixed with QT 7.0.2, does anyone have any suggestions?

You might try running Activity Monitor, sorting by the %CPU column, and keeping an eye on that while you're playing the movie and see if any process jump up to a high CPU usage at the same time that QT pauses. If that does happen, then it would be a matter of identifying that process and determining why it's hogging the CPU from time to time.

    hi,
    i've got an emac G4 800 with panther 10.3.9. i got the software update for itunes 6.0.2 and now the playback pauses and then starts again several times during any song. vEry annoying. please any help out there? i've already combed the threads.

    I have a similar problem. I updated to iTunes 6.0.2 and now it runs very slowly. Like when I try to select an album or a song, the spinning beach ball shows up and it takes a few seconds to select. This is extremely annoying and makes the program almost unusable, especially if I'm creating a playlist on the fly during a party or something...I know this is not an answer, but would like to know if anyone has a problem with iTunes running excruciatingly slow...

  • Video Playback Pauses when streaming from iTunes to itunes

    Hi,
    I have a 2011 iMac running OS X Mavericks Server and I use this as my main iTunes library computer.  I also have a 2013 (latest model) MacBook Air running Mavericks.  My WiFi network comprises of 2x Airport Express's, both the latest models and configured for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz frequencies.
    Using Home Sharing, I like to stream video from my iMac's iTunes library to my MacBook Air.  The problem is that playback pauses every few minutes.  The only way to resume playback is to close the video window and open the video again.  This problem occurs regardless of video quality (SD, 720 or 1080) and on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi settings...  On the odd occasion this problem doesn't happen at all.
    I experienced this problem before upgrading to mavericks so I don't think its mavericks related.  And I don't experience this playback issue when streaming to ipad mini, iphone, or apple tv... It only happens when streaming from imac to macbook air...
    Please help if you have a solution.

    Try:
    ffmpeg -i rtsp://localhost:8554/test.sdp -acodec copy -vcodec copy -re -f flv "rtmp://168.187.121.71/livepkgr/mystream&adbe-live-event=liveevent"
    I don't strream ffpmeg from my source, but I stream h264 from my source, and this works when transcoding.
    Hope this helps!

  • Playback pauses when the window loses focus.  Can I fix that?

    When going through footage, I might be multitasking -- talking on chat, looking at to do lists, etc.  Whenever I tab away to some other application, playback pauses in Adobe Premiere Elements 13.  This is really annoying -- any way to turn that off?

    JustinPierce
    Your type of situation has been written about before and remains the same up to and including the current version 13.
    What you describe is what it is. There is no way to change that behavior. The Premiere Elements playback in progress stops when you
    switch to another application. No user turn off switch to prevent this from happening.

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

    I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
    The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
    I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
    To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
    To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
    I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
    We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
    If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
    The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
    I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
    Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
    Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Video playback pauses for 100-200ms in mplayer

    but it's not the video files, because if I play again the part where the playback pauses occured, they don't occur the second time in the same place... what could be the problem ?
    before switching to Arch, I had this problem after I've upgraded to kernel version 3 while I was using Debian Testing, but the playback pauses were occuring much more frequently...
    Last edited by Chrys349 (2011-10-31 01:47:06)

    no errors and no messages in mplayer's output
    all options are:
    vo=xv
    ao=alsa
    mixer-channel=Master
    nolirc=yes
    nojoystick=yes
    font=Arial
    subcp=latin2
    subpos=95
    so far, I noticed these pauses during playback on every .avi and .mkv files that I've watched, and the pauses are random, they are not occurring twice in the same places in time; ram and cpu are below 100% during playback, even during playback of 720p .mkv's

  • Audio drops, or playback pauses

    Audio drops or the playback pauses after about 5-10 minutes for iTunes purchased/rented content only. Rewinding the show/movie a few seconds back and restarting it will give another 5-10 minutes of playback before problem recurs.
    Streaming from Hulu or Netflix is not an issue.
    The problem is regardless of time of day, or whether WiFi or ethernet wired connection. Am current on software updates, and this is an AppleTV gen 2. I have rebooted the AppleTV, but have not reset to factory settings.
    The problem did start a week or so after applying the last software update.
    Any thoughts on a solution?
    Anyone else having this problem?
    -thanks

    Thanks Tom - I have a fairly new iMac 27 and beefed up the graphics with all the extra memory I could get and it seems to handle importing from tape and doing other tasks well - am only using a browser and skype for meetings.
    I'm surprised you can't turn off the audio (or the video) during playback - this post seems to say it was possible in Final Cut Studio https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1963460?start=0&tstart=0
    I get that it has to be playing back to capture but surely it doesn't have to show it to me or make me suffer listening to it an hour at a time. With 50 plus hours of tape to capture I might have to only do this of an evening as I need to work with audio available during the day.
    Thanks for replying and letting me know it's not possible - it's really appreciated.

  • Ipod80gb playback pause

    HI,
    I recently bought the 80 gig iPod.
    I'm having a playback pause problem.
    For example while I'm playing Song X, and am scrollin down the songs list to choose the next song I'm playing, if I find it and click to play song Y while song X is playing it takes up to 5 seconds to change the song.
    as in 5 seconds of silence between songs once I manually change them.
    i asked apple they said it was because its a hard disk and not a flash drive.
    can i do anything about this as otherwise I need to return it.

    There isnt much you can do about it besides creating a playlist. The problem is, as apple told you, it is not a flash drive, it is a hard drive. This means every time you pick a new song, outside of the current playlist or artist, the harddrive has to spin up to access the song, just like any compture or anything else with a hardrive. The only real option is to create a playlist i think. Its only 5 seconds, which does sound like a lil longer than usual but still its not a huge deal in my mind, but if it really bothers you then other than creating a playlist i dont think there is anything you can do.

  • Playback PAUSE when Headphone Jack is removed

    iPod works great, one feature I'm wondering if you can disable - playback pausing when the headphone jack gets pulled out. Any way around this?

    Hey there,
    As of right now, you cannot disable it. Supposedly, there is a hardware mod you can pull off to make it happen, but there is no direct way of doing it. Sorry. Hope this helps.

  • Video playback pauses/freezes when I move my T500... also keeps dropping wireless connection...

    Video playback in Windows Media, Quicktime and in Firefox (youtube, etc.) pauses when I physically move my laptop. I've never had this happen on any other laptop. Any suggestions?
    Another annoying problem is that it drops the wireless connection in my home every couple of minutes. This doesn't happen with any of the other 3 laptops I'm running so it's not my ISP or router.
    Thanks for any help!

    The ThinkPad Active Protection System (APS) will protect the Hard Drive when you move your ThinkPad, and this probably causing the behaviour you are observing.  There are options for disabling APS for particular purposes, so you should have a look in the APS options... look in the ThinkVantage folder on your Start menu.
    Regarding your WiFi issues, you need to make sure that all the relevant power managment settings for WiFi are set to Maximum Performance (or similar).  This has been covered in numerous messages here already. so a few minutes with the serach function should provide you with more details.

  • Bluetooth Disconnected when playback paused and never resume again

    I am using Nokia BH-111 with my Dell Inspiron N4110. I am facing issues from last week that when I paused playback of audio/video, the Audio never resumes. I won't hear any voice at all. I need to turn off the Bluetooth adapter and have to restart it again.
    But it was working fine before that and Nokia BH-111 is also working fine with my other devices. Could you provide some assistance.

    Hi,
    Did you do any changes for your computer? Since your had mentioned that it worked fine before. Please try system restore to roll back to a time when everything worked fine to see if the issue could be resolved.

  • Playback pause button

    Hi There,
    I have been looking around in the forums and could not find
    an answer to this... I have audio within a text box. I am using
    Captivate 2 with the new playback controls/skins. I have noticed
    that when I hit the Pause button the movie pauses, but the audio
    doesn't. If I hit the Play button and then the pause button again,
    it works.
    Can anyone tell me what is going on? Or give me any hints?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Playback pausing at chapter markers

    Creating a DVD of an individual talking to camera, I've used chapter markers so the user can jump to particular points in his talk.
    However, when run in the Simulator, the project pauses/ playback glitches whenever a chapter marker is passed.
    Is this supposed to happen? And if not what am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    jON

    Sounds to me as if you originally set an end jump on a chapter marker to go back to the main menu, then changed it to go on to the following marker. All you need to do is to remove all end jumps on the markers.
    If you do want to only play a single marker then you can do this with stories instead of using end jumps.

  • Playback pauses every 60 secs.

    When I am listening to Itunes, every 60 seconds it pauses for 1 second then continues, just like someone is hitting the pause button. It does not do it on my ipod or with windows media player, real player or any other player with same library, It does it when using Airport and without. I have tried adjusting playback settings and I have the latest version of itunes.
    Any suggestions?

    I fixed this problem by lowering the MTU value from 1500 to 1497 in Networking / Advanced.
    I use a Netgear router and have not adjusted the settings there since this problem does not happen on any other computer on the WIFI network.  So, my guess is that the Broadcom WIFI chip? in the rMBP 13' does not play well with the Netgear router.  I doubt this would be an issue if I were using an Apple Router.
    Considering how annoying this problem is, I hope Apple posts a reply validating this fix.  In the event it is a fix, it needs to be published elsewhere.
    If anyone has any problems making this change, I will post some instructions.
    I hope this helps.

  • Video Playback Pauses, freezes on laptop

    My Video playback (iTunes 6.0.5- G4 Laptop 15" titanium) constantly pauses and freezes at key points during playback. It will make it approx. half way through a show, then start jumping and freezing. Any Suggestions?
    Thanks for any help

    It's pretty annoying. 1/2 a show will play fine then all at once the pauses and spinning wheel is so bad that you can't watch the rest of the movie.
    No answers or clues as of yet. I guess no one else has the problem.
