Playback resolution of digital pics

I have assembled a photo presentation using imovie, I have imported high resolution photos. When I go to play back the photos are all pixelated and undesireable looking. Please provide any solutions or let me know if this is what I can expect, if possible....Thanks so much

Hi Mark. Welcome to the forum.
Be sure to set iMovie HD playback preferences to show best quality -- turn on "Highest (field blending)". Start there.
There's a bug in iMovie HD that adds "jaggies" to images unless you handle them properly. The trick is to NOT grant iMovie permission to render the images when you press the "Create iDVD Project" button (in the iDVD tab of iMovie). If you refuse permission, iDVD will render them for you. (If you haven't pressed the button yet, the jaggies have not yet been added.)
If you avoid that bug the DVD you burn will be just fine viewed on a TV.
A good way to avoid the bug is to force iMovie's Ken Burns Effect to render the images as they are imported to iMovie. (Then iMovie won't ask later to render them.) Just turn on the Ken Burns checkbox as you import the image and Ken Burns will render them. It does so with great clarity.
Aside from all that, note that the image you see in iMovie is never as good as the underlying DV (digital video) it creates. iMovie HD simply never shows you all the quality that's there. So don't let the appearance of a newly-imported photo -- even a Ken Burns-rendered photo -- to fool you. That's just an iMovie playback feature we all live with. The images will be fine viewed on TV.
(If you have QuickTime Pro, you can watch the project movie and see all the quality that's actually there. QuickTime Pro is required to configure the movie to play with the best quality.)
Remember too that you are no longer looking at a high resolution image. iMovie has converted it to DV, which is smaller and whose quality is never quite as good as the original. But it's a lot better than you see now.
There are LOTS of threads here discussing this issue. Search the forum for "Jaggies" or "blurry" and you'll find them.
Here's a portion of one:

  • Bugs? playback resolution will not change?

The playback resolution will not change no matter what I choose ? it may be contributing to the distorted playback issues im having ? also when I select a clip from the project or media browser the sequence automatically starts in arri editing mode? I switch to dslr but the playback gets worse.

When you refer to playback resolution, do you mean the setting highlighted in this screenshot?
If so, what happens when you try to change the setting? And, of course, if that's not what you were referring to, please elaborate.
And when you say "when I select a clip from the project or media browser the sequence automatically starts in arri editing mode," are you referring to creating a sequence from the clip? If so, the editing mode generally doesn't matter much unless you plan to use "smart encoding" or to enable "Match Sequence Settings" or "Use Preview Files" when you export, neither of which is recommended in most cases. The main properties of the sequence settings that you want to make sure are right are the height, width, pixel aspect ratio, and frame rate.
As to the distorted playback issues, a screenshot might help to start troubleshooting that.
Finally, please specify exactly which version of Premiere you have--the three-part number like 2014.0.1, not simply CC or CS6.

  • Help?! Playback Resolution error on Premiere CC 2014

I recently upgraded to new release of Adobe CC 2014.
I have a sequence set at 1080P AppleProRes 422 HQ. I currently have a mixture of 4k footage and 1080p footage. When I set my program window to playback resolution to 1/2, the program window magnifies the image 200% involuntarily on playback.
When the playback stops it reverts back to full frame. This only happens when playing back 4k footage. The footage is clean - no plug ins - filters etc.
Can this be a bug? Thoughts?

I upgrade this post with more tests i've done:
I've tried a timeline with a separated workstation, completely isolated and a local storage.
An iMac 27", core i7 and 8 GB Ram.
I've placed a timeline 1920x1080 p50 and tested with multiple Operative systems.
The Ram consumption is the same on both Mac OS 10.9.5, 10.10, and 10.10.1 while it's slightly better on 10.10.2.
Is it possible no one ever noticed this issue, or i'm missing something?

  • Multicam Playback Resolution

    Hi All,
I cut native AVCHD 1920x1080 60p footage from 3 panasonic HDC-HS700 cameras in the multicam feature of CS5. I have playback resolution in the program and source monitors set to "full" and it plays crystal clear in those windows. In the multi-cam window however it plays grainy. I could not find anywhere to adjust multicam window playback res.
thoughts as to why its playing grainy only in that window, and is there a way to adjust it?
    Thanks in advance :o)

    quantity 4 Hitachi G-raid external Raid-0 drives connected e-sata
(scratches on one, media on another, project files on another etc.)

I don't know of any way to adjust it manually.  The multicam window is only for content viewing so you can see which camera to switch to.  It doesn't need to be high res.  But it does need to play in real time.  So PP adjusts to make that happen.

  • Reducing resolution of digital photos

I took a number of digital photos at very high resolution (new 2 GB memory card, so I thought, why not?). But the downloaded photos have so much data that I can't send even a single photo via email. Is there a way to reduce the photo resolution in iPhoto so that the pictures can be more readily sent to others?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What e-mail client are you using? If you use Apple's Mail programme, then at the bottom right of the message window you can resize the pic. If you're using something else you can resize pics using the File -> Export command, then export the pics to the desktop and attach them from there.

  • Avi.file and playback resolution

hi, i am trying to do some editing of footage recorded on a digital camera and saved to pen drives.i have downloaded them ok but about 70% of the files are distorted on playback, exactly like playing back thumbnails on a larger screen.the files appear to be full size( they are of equal size as the clips that play normally). is there any way to get the full resolution back or is this that they have been recorded differently at source?

    I guess so...
in case you own QTpro, you can #read-out' the original size.. open video, Apple-I .. you read size and displayed size...
you can 'blow up' a video to any size.. but if only e.g. 320x240 are recorderd, it doesn'l look better in 1920x1080

  • Screensaver photo playback resolution issue

i am using a photo library as my playback source for my screensaver. it has recently decided to playback some of the images (randomly it seems) with very bad resolution. there is another post on this but i don't thinkthe anser is relevant as the pix are all the same size and resolution basically adn it is choosing to ruin some and not others.

    Thanks for the reply Tom
    I'm on 4.4.
Interestingly, whilst leaving it running I just encountered a new problem, the screensaver was running perfectly, it then went over to a black screen with the music still running, hopefully that was a one-off.
I've been pointing Itunes to my 2011, 2010 and 2009 photo directories, one at a time, each has around 1000 photos. The problem was replicated every time, many of the photo's in those directories are 4 MBish JPEGs.
I'm going to point it to my 2005 directory which has 1.5MBish photos taken with my previous digital camera. I'll let you know how I get on.

i upload iPhone pics to Shutterfly, which gives me a "low resolution" warning and blurry prints. Does anyone know how to enhance resolution/printing quality of iPhone pictures?

How does iPhoto play a part in this?  You're in the iPhoto forum.  Shouldn't you be asking your question in the iPhone forum?  I'll ask the powers to be to move you question to the iPhone forum.

  • Low resolution warning on pics

Hi. I'm new to this iPhoto app and not very good or experienced with photos!! And I need help!!
I received a CD with some pics on whihc I saved to my desktop as .jpg images. I then imported them into iPhoto 6.0.5 and they appear fine. However, when I try to order these pics using iPhoto I get a warning with regard to the low resolution quality of the pics for every size except the 5 x 8cm one. Is there a way to overcome this as I would really like to print these pics? The pic is a 480 pixel by 720 pixel.
    Please help me!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What print size did your friend print these to? For a 4 x 6 inch print your dpi would be around 120 dpi. That might give you a "fair" print. To see if the size you want in the book will be OK try printing it yourself at that size and see how it looks. However, it may not look quite as good in the book.
That size is pretty small. Ask your friend if he burned the full sized image file and not a reduced size.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • FCP 6 playback problems in Digital Cinema Display on an LCD External Monito

    Hi
    Looking for advice.
I am running FCP 6 and have hooked up my Macbook Pro to an external LCD SAMSUNG Flatscreen TV. I want to preview my edit as I cut but Im having problems with playback.
When I hit play the video freezes on the one still image on the LCD, The canvas windows is playing fine but the LCD playback doesnt move... is this a setting/resolution problem?
Im editing in DVCOPRO HD which i thought may be the issue but even when I switched to editing Jpgs or even DV PAL sequences it still does the same thing!
On some occasions BOTH the canvas window and the LCD dont move at all, only when I turn off the External LCD Cinama Desktop Display monitoring does the canvas window play normally.
Can anyone help with my problem?
Im editing on a Macbook pro 17" 2.4 ghz 160GB with a NIVIDIA 8600 Geforce graphics card 256MB 2.0GB RAM running Final Cut Pro v.6
    cheers

I was having a similar problem trying but was set up with a 17" viewsonic as my primary monitor (menubar location) and my MacBook Pro as the secondary. I wanted to play back Hi-Def full screen on the MacBook Pro and all I got was still frames (though I could advance a single frame at a time and see motion).
I didn't find an answer here but went exploring in prefs and found a solution that worked for me.
In System Settings > Playback Control I changed "RT:" from "Safe" to "Unlimited"
Now I'm happily watching the full resolution HD video on my laptop screen.
I'd be curious to know if that works with the Flatscreen TV.
    All the best,
    Kevin

  • Mail changing the resolution of attached pics

Mail is changing the resolution of jpegs when I attach them. This happens no matter how I attach them. It changed a 4.4 mb photo into a 333 kb. It did not do this 6 months ago but now I cannot send a pic.
    Thanks

    Hi,
In the Compose window look at the Image Size button at the bottom right. I think you will find it has gotten changed to something other than Actual Size. Change it back to Actual Size, and it will stay there for subsequent message until you change it again.

  • Resolution of Imported Pics in PE4

    Hi everyone,
I can't remember what resolution my pics should be have when they're imported into PE4 from my scanner.  I know last time when I created a show, the large pics really slowed down the system.
    Thanks!
    Sarah

Ideally you want to size them to around 1000x750, the actual NTSC video frame size is 720x480 (non-sqaure pixels, equivalent to 640x480 square pixels) so this allows for some room to pan and zoom around the photos if required.

  • No Item Info (resolution) for Digital Camera photos?

    Hi,
Just imported some photos off my Canon digital camera into my iMac using Image Capture. Looking at at all the Icons for the photos in Finder, I've noticed none of them have their resolution written below them, even though I've got "Show Item Info" ticked.
If someone can explain to me why this, I'd like to know. Any pictures I download from the Internet automatically have their resolution written below them in Finder. But for photos that've come from my own camera, they don't.

The only time I see this is when the images are in a folder that is not indexed by Spotlight. Thus, I have a folder on a drive that has Spotlight disabled for that drive, and the same folder on my startup drive. The pixel dimensions appear when I open the folder my startup drive, they do NOT appear when I open the folder on the other drive. If the folder the pix are in is excluded from Spotlight search you won't see the dimensions displayed in the Finder window. I would guess that the folder the downloaded items are in is indexed, the one from the camera is not.

  • What digital coax cable do I need for my sb 5.1 digital (pic attach

    http://www.marctv.de/media/soundblaster5rear.jpg
This is my SB Li've! 5. from the back. The black whole is labeled "or digital" .
I have my Z-680 ( 5. Surround Speakers with DD Decoder) attached with 3 x 3.5 mm to have real 5. Sound in EAX Games.
But I want to connect the soundcard with my decoder via the digital coax cable because I do not play anymore.
So what cable do I need to connect my sb 5. digital to my z-680 via coax?
I need a detailed discription so that I can buy one.
And yes, I know that I only have stereo sound when I am not listinbg to a dvd.
But please give me the answer. I could not find it anywhere on the cl homepage.
Is it a 3.5 mm mono to coax? Or what is it's

Yes it's a mono 3.5mm >> RCA adapter (or a stereo 3.5mm >> 2xRCA cable). You need to use the orange socket labelled 'DIGITAL OUT'.

  • How does one erase thumbnails assigned to JPegs-Digital Pic Frame Prob.

Recently was given an electronic "Digital Picture Frame" that displays pictures in a slideshow if JPegs are stored on an inserted memory card. Problem I experienced (using a memory stick pro) was that it would indeed cycle thru JPegs but it would always present an out of focus picture of the file after the good one. It continued this thru every JPeg.
Contacted the manufacturer "Smartparts" who said the problem was likely the thumbnail icon adjacent to the file name. Photoshop Elements 2 created the icon after I edited and resized the picture then moved the ones I wanted to view via drag and drop to the memory stick in a card reader. Then I move the MS to the Picture Viewer and that's when the problem manifests itself..
Is there an easy way to strip the thumbnails from the file name after transfer to the memory stick? Their tech support suggested "Finder Cleaner" but that seem to have some bad reviews.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Louie

    Hi Louie
Did you export them from Photoshop or drag then from your user folder? Sorry I don't use Photoshop so I can't help you with the file transfer from it, but a couple of things come to mind.
    1. If you have iPhoto try exporting those file's from Photoshop to iPhoto then export them from iPhoto to the mounted memory sticks folder!
Note: +(With iPhoto if I create a "new album" then drag/move selected photos to it, the files export correctly to the memory stick for use with a picture viewer)+
    2. Check in your "user folder / home / pictures" and see if Photoshop saves a modified file similar to iPhoto and try dragging those files to the mounted memory sticks folder.
Note: +(Again this may depend on how and where Photoshop saves files???)+
