Playback skipping

I'm editing a couple of clips in FCP... the footage was shot with a Kodak handheld in HD. When I drop a few clips into the timeline and then try to play them back, the playback video skips between every single clip. I've tried to change the sequence settings to control the playback but no changes help. I've restarted the computer thinking maybe i had something running in the background. Nothing. Seems to only happen with THESE HD clips. I have several other edits in HD and am not seeing this problem (although I am seeing some issues not related to this post). Seems to not handle HD very well. Do I need a fast computer? Oh, the clips are pulling from an external drive, but it's a very nice drive, shouldn't be the issue.
Thanks in advance

FCP is not designed to handle native H264 editing and whilst some folks do have some success to a lesser or greater degree, its by no means a recommended workflow. I'd suggest you transcode your footage before editing with it ... to stay in HD then the ProRes LT codec would probably be a good bet for your footage, or DVCPRO HD if you prefer.

  • Song Playback skips

Hi. Can anyone help me with my problem of playback skipping. I just bought a new HP 6000 laptop good configurations and so on so my computer isn't outdated. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and upon playback of my songs, I noticed that they have random skips. If I play the song back again the skips just happen randomly in different places. Its really annoying and its making it frustrating to have to listen to it. Can anyone help me fix this problem? I've had iTunes on my other laptops and have never had this problem. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I've been having this problem with my new HP laptop(pavilion dv9030us) for about a week now. I tried adjusting all the Quicktime settings and whatnot, but nothing worked.
Turns out the problem was that as soon as I had installed Quicktime and iTunes, the first thing I did was take the quicktime icon off the system tray. Sure enough, I reinstalled both programs, left the icon on the tray, and everything's been running fine ever since.
A lot of other people on the forum have said this works for them. I dont know if its some cheap trick of Apple's to promote Quicktime or what, but it sounds like the only way to get skip free playback on HP laptops is to keep the Quicktime system tray icon active. Laaaaame.

  • IPod Playback Skips End Of Track When Ripping CD's In iTunes 8.1.1.10

I have just upgraded to iTunes 8.1.1.10 and any Tracks ripped using this version have a problem playing back on my iPod. Playback within iTunes is fine however, when playing back through my 5th Gen iPod Video up to the last 20 seconds of the track are skipped. Previsously ripped CD tracks are fine and do not show the problem.
I beleive the problem is Quicktime AGAIN. This is the third time APPLE have introduced the same bug whereby Quicktime (used for encoding the AAC files) does not write the file ending properly. Last time (around version 7.5 or 7.6) they tried to blame faulty hardware, which they then would NOT replace under warrenty etc.
APPLE are becoming worse than Microsoft for re-applying the same old bugs. Once fixed it should stay fixed.
Last time this happened the only fix (until APPLE re-fixed the problem) was to revert back to an older version of Quicktime. That is easier to do for Mac users, however Windows users, try finding downloads of previous versions on Apple's site(s).
Come on APPLE - fix the damm problem properly.

I have the same problem with my 5th Gen iPod Video. I thought I had issues with my iPod. I was worried. I will try the previous version of Qucktime. However I do have a work around. Highlight all of the songs in the CD in your iTunes Library and do a Get Info. Say yes to the multiple items qustion. In the "Options" tab at the bottom it says "Gapless album:". Make that say Yes in the box on the right of it. You can do this through iTunes directly on your iPod but, you wont have to if you do it in the Library before you drag it to your iPod.

  • Playback skips

the disc burns fine on iDVD 5 but when i play it back on my DVD player connected to my TV, it skips and pauses thru-out the whole video. this happens on more than one DVD player but not all. i'm using Apple branded 8x DVD's. my burner is a 2x. it doesnt skip when i play it on the Mac though. what should i do?
    G4 733 Mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

My iTunes has random skips of music when I playback
song files that I have on my data(d) drive. This
does not happen when I play files that are on my main
operating system drive(c) or when they are on my
external USB drive. This doesn't make any sense and I
notice the skips happen when my hard drive is
actively searching (the little light turns on).
How can I fix this problem? Since I bought the second
hard drive to put all my song files, it is useless
since I can't listen to my songs without the
    skipping.
    Thanks,
    MV
    Greetings,
I am having the same problem. After reading your post I realized that it started when I installed a larger hard drive to store music. I hope someone at Apple creates a fix for this it is very annoying. Thanks shawn1729

  • Itunes playback skips

I have 3.7g quad core pc with 8gb of ram unning windows 8.1. When I playback songs using itunes, I have the latest 64 bit version for windows, there is noticeable and frequent skips in playback. When I play the same songs in windows media player, under exactly the same conditions there and no problems with playback.
Why would itunes have issues playing my songs? Is it just rubbish?

There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio - one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Itunes CD Playback skipping

    Here is the problem...
I can't playback or rip songs from a CD using Itunes. When I play a song from a CD using itunes the songs starts out and quickly degrades into a static skipping mess. Now, my original thought was dirty CD- CD plays on other players fine. Next, I thought it had to be the CD drive-The playback is perfect on windows media player and I can rip things from there too, without a problem.
I've searched itunes options for any settings that i thought would help, and nothing seems to do it. And i've messed with the audio settings on my computer (hardware acceleration stuff and quicktime settings)
Oh, and i have the most recent itunes, directx, and the cd drive is updated.
I have no idea what to do, any suggestions?

    I fixed it :-P
I turned on "error correction" when importing

  • Playback Skipping Problems with iTunes 7.3 or later - Resource Hog?

Audio playback on my computer was fine on all versions of iTunes upto and including version 7.2. The problem started when Apple released iTunes 7.3 (for the iPhone - which I don't have). Audio playback was fine if iTunes was the only program running. But if I was also using another program - like a simple 3d game or even just using the lasso tool in Photoshop - then playback sk..sk..skipped constantly. So I closed iTunes and tested my music library on Windows Media Player 11 with other programs running and audio playback was consistently good - no skipping at all. But I'd rather not use Windows Media Player if iTunes can work properly! I suspected that iTunes 7.3 had become a resource hog. When iTunes 7.4.2 was released I was hoping that the problem would be solved. It wasn't. So I uninstalled iTunes 7.4.2, re-installed iTunes 7.2 (the last version that worked) and audio playback (with other programs running) is great again. So I don't think the problem has arisen from installing any other programs. My question is : WHAT THE **** HAVE APPLE DONE TO iTUNES since version 7.2?! Please help, because I don't want to be stuck with this version and never be able to update!

    anybody?

  • DMA2200 video playback skip pauses with Windows 7

Had DMA2200 connected to Vista Media center and all was working fine.
Have upgraded to Windows 7 and when playing back recorded TV and trying to skip forward or back it has big pauses. Playback will stop for about 10 sec and often when it starts again there is no sound for a further 10sec.
Have tried playing back wma file and its better but still not perfect.
DMA2200 is connected via 100MBit cable network.
    Have updated firmware to v1.1.12
    Any ideas?

Maybe its a network performance counter problem on the PC, Microsoft posted an article on how to fix it but the Operating System was Vista. So, I'm not sure if the steps below will work on a Windows 7 operating system.
    Microsoft KB937609
    here are the steps
    1. On the Media Center computer, click Start and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    2. In the Programs list, right-click cmd, and then click Run as administrator.
    3. At the command prompt, type cd %windir%\system32, and then press ENTER.
    4. Type Lodctr /R, and then press ENTER.
    5. Wait until you receive the following message, and then type exit:
Info: Successfully rebuilt performance counter setting from system backup store
    6. Restart the computer, and then reconnect the Extender.
Aside from that, I think meegosh is right. The DMA2200 was designed for Vista and not for Windows 7.
    Cheers.

  • ITunes playback skips, pauses and distorts

Recently I haven't been able to use my itunes for playback through my desktop because the songs pause and skip, and in some cases I get loud distortion or static. Previously it had been working fine for 18 months. I deleted the program and downloaded it afresh: the first song was OK but then the problem recurred. My operating system is XP. Can anybody suggest a solution?
Other programs on the computer are working normally although possibly a bit slower than they were. Are there viruses or other nasties which attack iTunes in particular?
    PC generic   Windows XP

Problem was with iTunes libary (xml) file and not Firefox. Once I rebuilt my library from scratch, iTunes no longer skipped.

  • Flash 11.3 - Data Stream Playback Skipping

    Hi.
I have a tool which is designed to playback interactive audio/text sessions.  For example, I record a data stream, sending events which contain the text that was typed into a chat window, so the messages can be replayed exactly how they originally occured.
I have problems with the playback when deploying the swf to a browser, vs running locally from my Flash Pro CS 5.5 software.  I'm just trying to play the flv, waiting for the text events so I can display the recorded chat text.
A simple example of a "skipping" problem in the data stream:
    1) A 30 second recording is made of text sent into a chat window.
    2) Lets say 5 events are sent to the recorded stream, at time values of 6 seconds, 10 seconds, 12, 14, and 22.  I.e. those are the time values of the stream when the text messages were sent.
    3) Playback with Flash Pro is exactly what I would expect.  After calling "Play()", I recieve the messages at the correct times.  For example, the first text message event is recieved from the stream 6 seconds after playing it.
The Problem:  When deployed to the broweser, the stream playback seems to automatically "skip" to the first event.  I.e., there is no 6 second delay between the time the stream is started to the time the first event is recieved.  After that, there is the correct time between events (i.e. 4 seconds later the "10 second" event occurs, then 2 seconds later the "12 second" event occurs, on and on...).
The data must be synched up with an audio stream in some cases.  This becomes a problem in certain cases, as the "dead space" at the beginning and end of the data stream is seemingly ignored.  The data stream is completely separate from audio (not mixed), and it passes the flvCheck (i.e. no errors about timestamps).
This is all done from Action Script 2.  I use a timer to monitor the timestamp on the stream.  It becomes clear that the swf, when deployed in a browser, simply jum[s to the the timestamp of the first event.  When deployed locally, it is clear the steam properly plays the deadspace at the beginning, before sending the recorded event 6 seconds in.
I can workaround the problem by creating a timer on the client side and always send an "init" event one second after I want to start recording.  I could get my recordings to work using this dummy event, but it causes addition problems/confusion and I wonder what the problem really is here.

I do not know what is causing Flash Player not to work for non-admin users, but I have seen it getting to work in the past by using the following procedures
do a clean uninstall of Flash Player, as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315 - do not reinstall yet
resolve any permission problems using this procedure http://forums.adobe.com/thread/987370
download and run the offline installers from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header
    Hope this fixes your issue.

  • MBP2013: itunes playback skips when using NAS

    Hi,
I have a Late-2013 MBP with 16MB RAM.  When i listen to music from my NAS (WD MYBOOK DUO) I frequently experience skips/gaps in the playback.
I listen to the same files on my iphone without issue, and also access them from a second computer (windows, old laptop) over the same network without issues.
I can only conclude it's something to do with the way my MBP access and/or buffers the songs for playback.
All software is up to date.
I'd appreciate any assistance, because the current situation is obviously untenable.
    Thanks,
    James

    1) I put the two of the files I've been having trouble with on the desktop, added them to itunes and they played flawlessly.  I should mention I've been having this issue consistently since trying to play music on the NAS across a range of, but not all, songs.  The issue seems to be with larger (ALAC) rather than smaller (AAC) files, but I haven't tested this definitively.
    2) The MBP is connected to the NAS wirelessly.  I have an airport extreme router (the last version before they went to the tour.  The NAS is wired to the router.
    3) I use itunes on the MBP to listen to music.  On my old windows laptop I used jrmc and itunes, both played with nil issues in the same wireless configuration as the MBP is in.  The old laptop continues to access the NAS with nil skipping.
My hypothesis is that there's some issue with buffering the large (all?) files on the MBP.  I haven't changed any settings from the factory defaults.
Any assistance to solve this would be sincerely appreciated.
    James

  • Video Playback Skipping After Updating Memory Storage

I am currently using a Macbook from 2006, originally running on OS X Tiger but upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard back in 2009. That switch worked fine, no problems. Recently, in an attempt to make my macbook faster, I upgraded the Memory storage. This is my systems original hardware specs:
      Model Name: MacBook
      Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed: 2 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 2 MB
      Memory: 1 GB
      Bus Speed: 667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version: MB11.0061.B03
      SMC Version (system): 1.4f12
I upgraded the Memory from 1 GB to 2 GB as was recommended by Crucial.com. Since the upgrade, any time I watch videos on my computer, the video freezes, skips and/or the audio cuts in and out. I've since switched my Memory back to 1GB and still encounter the same issues. Aside from stating the obvious -- yes I know it's an old computer and I'm due for a computer upgrade in general -- is there a way to improve this video playback issue? Or is the other hardware in my Macbook so dated that the Memory upgrade is too powerful for my computer to maintain? Any serious feedback is much appreciated.

The memory upgrade isn't too powerful, and Snow Leopard should run ok in 2gb of ram. Video takes a lot of resources, try to not have anything else running when you watch video and see if that helps.  Are you trying to watch online videos or are these videos stored on your hard drive or a DVD? You might try running Activity Monitor to see if something is running in the background using up valuable resources
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used (OS X Mountain Lion and earlier)
MAkesure that both sticks of memory are being recognized and also make sure that your hard drive isn't getting too full.

  • Video playback skips as user, fine as root

    The title says it all.
mplayer playbacks video well as root but skips as user.
xine on the other hand skips too much frames both as root and user.
That's regardless of any video driver I use ( vesa or i810)
Tried also "mplayer -xv vo" but video still skips as user.
Note that user is added to video group

    Problem solved.
Followed the "Smooth playback" part in this article
    http://freshmeat.net/articles/view/747/
    Thx to kenneth on #archlinux.
xine is still badly skipping, but mplayer is just fine.

  • Playback skips in archive using timestamp

We are using a the flash player to play back archives from live streams. We are using timestamps so that questions during the stream can match the stream playback.
The streams are saved in full with no problems but in playback in the Flash player we are experiencing skips at the exact same points.
    Example:
One archived stream of 30 questions experiences 2 parts where it freezes and skips. I read here that it might have to do with "silent" parts not being saved with teh timestamps.
    http://code.google.com/p/red5/issues/detail?id=15
    Has anyone experienced similar issues?

3 months have gone by, and you still haven't gotten a response... Adobe Software is no better than a toothpick made in China. They want your money, that's it!

  • Video playback skips/stalls

    Greetings all.
    Bit of a mystery here.
I have a Late 2009 iMac that I occasionally use Win7 on via Boot Camp for gaming.
I have iTunes installed so I can watch Movies/TV Shows from my library (served via iTunes running on 2012 i7 Mac Mini).
When playing any video in Windows 7 with iTunes (SD/HD), it stutters, skips and eventually stalls.
The curious issue is when booted into OS X, I can play the same video in iTunes with no problem.
I have attempted the fix in the KB article related to iTunes/Windows 7 video playback.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718
(disable Direct3D accel/Disable DirectX in QuickTime)
    The iMac specs are:
i7, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, 512MB Radeon 4850M, 1Gbit wired ethernet to same switch as Mini
    OS X 10.8.5
    Windows 7 64-bit, SP1
    Thanks!

    Ok, did some further experimentation.
The same movie plays perfectly on:
My iMac (OS X), 13" MBP (OS X), iPhone 5S, iPad 2, iPad Mini, 2 AppleTVs
It will NOT play on the iMac (Windows 7) or the MacBook Pro (Windows 7) using iTunes 11.1.1
The two machines CAN play the same .m4v file outside of iTunes (using VLC) perfectly.
    The problem is absoutely iTunes.
