Playback to camera

Is extremely pixelated and jittery. And the pixels are huge. It plays fine on the computer monitor and it digitizes from the camera with no problem.
I've tried changing the quality of playback, restarting the software, suing different projects, about anything I can think of. Nothing works.
Another bug?

Sorry, wrong forum.

  • Inadequate video playback from camera video

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FX07 camera. I took some awesome soccer video and was puzzled that I needed Quicktime to view it on my computer. I was sad to see that the video playback was horrible - all audio and jerky video. The video plays fine on my camera. So my first question is: (1) what's wrong with video playback? My second question is (2) do I seriously have to pay $30 to upgrade to Quicktime Pro just to save MY own video to my computer? I am obviously reluctant to do this if the free version of the software does not even work correctly. My computer is basic but I've upgraded the memory and other videos (streaming, my canon camera etc) work fine so please leave off the poor computer specs reasoning. Some honest feedback would be welcome as I am hopefully just not doing something exactly right. Thanks in advance!

I found a sample video from this camera on the web and it's working for me in the newest QT 7.6. I tried also mplayer and VLC player - both are able to play the video, so try them. You can also use them to convert video to another format (mplayer is just player, but it's shipped with mencoder that can do it).
If none of the players is working for you, try to post somewhere small sample video from your cam - I'll take a look on it.

  • Simple question - Playback on Cam

    hi everyone!
A simple question if someone could help me out:
I'd like to view the playback of edited footage from PPro on my Camera's LCD (then onto a TV...).
When i go to the playback settings and click export there aint no camera there. I have no problem capturing, so PPro does see the camera.
Im using a SONY HVR-V1E, Windowns XP SP2, PPro CS3, 2Gb RAM, dual pentium, etc..
I read the manual and it says "In the playback settings dialogue box, click the desired settings." It simply says 'none' under device.
    Am I mmissing something daft?!!
    thanks guys..
    Andrew-

There are some serious differences between DV and HDV. The real answer is to buy one of the graphics cards with component outputs, or a Matrox RTX.2 (wait until I get done testing it in a few weeks) or the Matrox Axio.
The graphics cards are not that expensive. Look at the Matrox Parhelia APVe (I will have one on EBay soon) and the NVidia Quadro FX-560.

  • No longer can playback in camera? No connection w/ computer?

Hi all. I have had an HDR FX1000 for about 2 years now. Never a problem with it. On the 29th of September (last Sunday) I shot a wedding on HDV with the camera. Business as usual, recordings went through, no issues.
Today (one week later of camera non-use) I try to playback the tapes in my HDR FX1000 and I get the normal blue screen which precedes visual playback... but no playback, just more blue screen. The timecode is running like normal, I just cant get any playback. I then connect it to my Mac w/ FCP 7 via FW800... and the computer suddenly doesn't detect the camera (despite restarting like 4 times and trying everything I could think of).
This is kind of like a twilight zone episode going on for me as everything has always worked like normal, the camera was idle for a week untouched, and all of a sudden these problems.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.

First, if you have the camera connected to the computer in playback mode (or whatever setup is usually required on the camera), make sure the computer is seeing the camera on the firewire bus by going to applications:  utilities:  system profiler and look at the firewire bus.
I'm not familiar with the camera, but some cameras have a system reset option that will restore the camera to factory defaults.  Worth a shot.

  • Choppy playback/rendering for one camera in a multicam sequence

Any help is appreciated with this weird, specific problem...
I have a sequence (let's call it "MAIN") which contains many separate multicam sequences (let's call them "M1" through "M5").  Each of these multicam sequences is made up of footage from two cameras, a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon C100.  All footage in M1-5 was shot sequentially, and neither camera changed settings, although the cameras recorded with different settings from each other.  The 5DIII recorded at 1080p 23.976fps.  The C100 at 1080i 60Hz.  This footage makes up all the assets in my project panel and they have no special media interpretation.
Here's the problem.  Everything looks/plays fine until I get to M3 in my MAIN sequence.  When I switch to camera 2 (the 5DIII), the playback in the program monitor looks about half the framerate of the original footage and all of my other sequences.  Camera 1 plays smoothly.  Camera 2 in any of the other multicam sequences plays smoothly (while in MAIN).  When I open up M3 in the timeline, it plays smoothly.  When I open up the original video in the source window, it plays smoothly.  Everything plays smoothly but camera 2 in M3 (in MAIN) in the program monitor.
I rendered a clip of MAIN that has M3 cam 1, to cam 2, back to cam 1.  Camera 1 is smooth, while camera 2 plays back at about half frame rate and looks interlaced.  So this is a real problem and not just some display issue.
The interlaced look of the render made me think there's some sequence settings that were off, whether they were in MAIN or M1-M5.  However, the sequence settings of M1-M5 are all identical, and the sequence settings of MAIN are not affecting any of the other multicam sequences.
I tried restarting my computer and deleting my cache.  No dice.
    Premiere Pro CC
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    HP Z820 w/ 2 x Xeon E5-2630
    128GB RAM
    GTX-570
Addendum: After playing around with sequence settings a bit, but after resetting them to be all as they were, now M2 is giving choppy playback on camera 1, while camera 2 plays smoothly.  What in the world is going on here?

The LEDs were reflecting on the book that the GoPro was on but I got it to work with a garbage matte using a frame grab with the lights off and including the book. It worked a treat! But I am going to remember the dark grey matte thing; less is more and all that. Thank you for your input, much appreciated. Ooh and as for multicam syncing I just nested the composite shot and used that as a single camera source.

  • Exporting back to camera

have created an imovie (17mins) which seems fine, but now that I'm trying to export it back to tape in the video camera (which I've done previously without a problem), the recording is stuttering and incomplete. Any suggestions?

    Hi MsDella,
Another method, which I've used successfully numerous times, is to use the playback to camera preference - rather than exporting/sharing to camera.
To achieve this, go to the menu iMovie>Preferences, select the Playback tab then check the box "Play DV project video through to DV camera". Press record on the camera and the Play arrow (or space bar) in iMovie. The movie should play smoothly in iMovie and be recorded perfectly on the camera.
The only disadvantage that I'm aware of is that iMovie does not control the camera - you have to do this manually. Otherwise the result is perfect. I've used the same method to transfer movies directly to my stand-alone external DVD Recorder which has a Firewire IN socket. The model is Pioneer DVR-310.
Now that I have an iMac G5 with superdrive, I use iDVD (with its great themes) to burn DVD's, but still use the playback to tape feature for recording back to the camera.

  • IMovie exporting to camera

I am trying to export a movie back to my camera, the video exports fine but the audio does not follow. However if I playback the camera through the Imovie the audio is there. I assume there is some encoding that only Imovie can playback, how can I change these settings to have both audio and video play on my camera.

Unfortunately, the deafening silence you hear suggests no one has an easy answer, Larry.
Assuming the iMovie project is set to play its audio, both the audio and video should export to the camera without a problem.
On the other hand, If the audio is turned off in the checkbox at the right end of the Timeline, it won't be exported. But if your audio plays in iMovie that's probably not the problem.
However if I playback the camera through the Imovie the audio is there.
Are you saying that if you play the EXPORTED video back from the camera through iMovie the audio is there? If so, everything on the camera is fine.
I'd check the basics. Make sure the audio isn't muted in whatever method you use to test playback from the camera.
Perhaps the iMovie Preferences > Playback > "Play DV project video through to DV camera" is turned ON? When ON, that mutes iMovie's audio when playing the project. iMovie assumes the camera is connected to a TV providing the audio.

  • 110 Wireless Security Camera Solution

Listed below is what we need to quote our end user (school)....if the setup is even possible.
    110 Wireless IP Cameras (2.8Gbps)
    DVR/Server/Routers
    Any other necessary hardware
Does anyone have any insight on this topic?  I haven't had the opportunity to quote any surveillance systems this large before.
    Thanks!

There are some challenges in reaching a 110 camera solution.  Things you need to plan for with a Cisco Small Business solution:
    * You have two options for the wireless camera.  WVC210 & WVC2300.  For security applications include low-light & no-light (with IR illuminators) conditions, the best option is the WVC2300.  You can also customize the lens on the WVC2300 to match your field of view needs for each individual camera.  Both WVC210 and WVC2300 are indoor cameras.  If you need cameras outdoors, the PVC2300 and PVC300 are excellent options which support POE.
    * For management software, all the cameras come with SWVMS16.  This has the ability to manage, view, record, and playback 16 cameras at once.  For a 110 camera solution, you'd need to deploy 7 windows computers running SWVMS16.  Technically feasible, but managing each application would a burden.  If you can break down the monitoring into sections/categories that might make this step easeier.  Even the common 3rd party Video Management Software from ONSSI, Nuuo, & Milestone don't scale to 110 cameras without having to buy their enterprise level central management system software.
    * Besides the video management software, you'll need enough storage capacity to store the video.  This will depend on the complexity of the video stream (how well the codec can compress the data), resolution, and frames per second.  If we assume 250Kbps per camera x 110 cameras = 27500 Kbps total.  You'd need over 6TB of storage to hold just under 21 days of video.  You'll want to make sure the data is protected in a NAS or server with RAID.  You'll also need to make sure the NAS or server can handle the incoming bandwidth.  If not you'll need multiple storage devices.
    * You need wireless access points that can handle the number of clients and bandwidth needed.  Will depend on physical layout of the 110 cameras.
    * You need switches to connect all the access points to the network.
There is definitely alot to define in a solution this large.

  • Camera Hard Drive computer via FW400

is it bad to run my camera through my firewire hardrive (or other firewire device with second port) to my computer? what probems will i run into? will playback to camera be effected? will capturing be effected?

Try it and find out. If you do run into difficulties, you'll need a firewire card (pci for powermac / pcmcia for powerbooks) to create a second bus for the camera.
    cherios,

  • Importing high quality video through a lower-quality camera

    (Final Cut 5 in a G5, 10.5.8)
The camcorder I'm using to shoot video for my Final Cut projects is a Panasonic PV-GS400, a good 3-chip mini-DV camcorder that shoots high-quality DV (original price $1500).
I would prefer not to use this camera to play the video into Final Cut, to save wear and tear on its tape drive (with tape, of course, one hour of recorded video takes one hour to play into Final Cut).
I have an inexpensive little Canon Elura 100 Mini-DV camcorder (original price $400) that could be used to play the tapes from the Panasonic into Final Cut, but if I did that, would the higher quality of the Panasonic's video be degraded to the lower level of the Canon's video when passing through?
To put it another way, can a Mini-DV tape with high quality video on it be imported through a relatively low-quality camera into Final Cut and still retain its high quality?
    Thanks for any help.
    Tom

Thanks much, guys. Yes, I'm using firewire. Glad to hear there's no loss of quality when the video is strained through a lesser camcorder on its way into Final Cut.
So now I'll go ahead and use the little Canon Elura as my playback/ingest camera with no worries.
    I appreciate the help!

  • Best Quicktime compression for DVD playback later on?

I have some DV footage that I had captured into MPEG-2 files on my old PC, then recently got a Mac and I want to be able to edit the footage on the Mac software I have and put it onto DVD for standard playback on a TV.
I've got the latest Quicktime Pro with the MPEG-2 playback component, and another program I just found called MPEG Streamline that allows me to convert the MPEG-2 files into MOV files that can be edited in iMovie and Final Cut Express, of which I have, and then I plan on just using iDVD to put the projects on DVD.
I've converted some footage using 3 different compressions: Apple DV 25, JPEG Motion A, and H.264 at NTSC 720x480 resolution so far, and cannot see any noticeable difference in the picture quality between the three converted files when played full screen with Quicktime, but of course, there is considerable difference between the resulting file size for each video. With all three files played back in Quicktime, there was some faint pixelation around moving figures in the video, even after setting the video stream to play back high quality.
I would like to know if there is and what the best compression to use would be in converting the MPEG-2 files into MOV files or other format that's compatible with iMovie and Final Cut Express that will result in the best quality for DVD playback. I don't have Final Cut Pro so I don't have Compressor, which I understand, has a preset compression optimized for DVD playback later on.

Nevermind, I just used DV compression and the playback quality came out just fine on the DVDs I've burned from the footage.

  • IMovie firewire to Canopus ADVC100 playback?

Is there a way to play iMovie back thru a Canopus ADVC100 via firewire to a regular video monitor?
Do I need a driver to steer the output to the firewire port?

    Hi
    IN iMovie 08 - THIS IS DISABLED - GREAT LOSS ! ! !
    • THE MOST SEVERE LACK/DRAWBACK in iMovie'08 !
In iMovie 1 - 6 Yes - by playback via Camera.
Don't know ADVC-100. ADVC-110 should be able to, ADVC-300 CAN do. Just set
playback via Camera in iMovie preferences. (NOT WORKING IN iM08 !)

  • DVCPRO50 multicam playback: dropped frames

I'm having trouble with multicam group playback (5 cameras) in FCP - Dropped-Frame Error. Individual clips playdown fine, only groups drop-frames.
    Stats:
    G5 Quad 2.5 - 4GB
    OS 10.4.3
    FCP 5.0.3
    G-RAID 1000GB
source footage: DVCPRO50 @ full resolution
Could it be the 5 cameras @ full-rez giving the G-RAID a hard time?

I'd think so. DVCPRO 50 is 8-bit, and the G-Raid handles 3-4 streams of 8-bit, and you are asking it for 5 streams. For this I'd think you'd need a SATA Raid.

  • TS1702 Video playback prpblem, black screen only

Audio without the video is what i get during playback, on camera roll and iMovie app

Each display is fed by its own graphics card: I have two NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT PCI cards, with 256 MB dedicated VRAM each. I am running two Dell 24" displays @ 1080p via DVI.
The source material is Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 (with all FX rendered).
    "External Video" settings:
When I brought up System Profiler just now, I noticed several oddities, one being that it says I have 0MB of VRAM, and the other being that one of my cards takes up 1 pin on the PCIe bus... Very strange! ???
Card from Slot-1: (0 MB of VRAM?)
Card from Slot-2: (0 MB of VRAM and x1 Pin Width?)
(It says "no display connected" because each card has two DVI outputs.)
