Playback without gaps

Is there any way I can play mixed CDs back on my ipod as they were recorded - i.e. without any gaps...
Advent   Windows XP   Sony Vaio laptop

This question is one that crops up a lot on these forums and has been a major source of complaint for as long as the iPod has been in existence.
Currently the only way to eliminate the gap between songs is to import the cd as one track. You do this by using the “join cd tracks” option in the advanced menu of iTunes.
Make sure the tracks are in their correct order, and highlight those you wish to join.
No gaps, but the downside is that you will of course lose the ability to navigate between tracks, and the song info is also lost. The iPod will display the cd title in the song field in the “now playing” screen . You’ll also have one large file instead of a number of smaller ones. As the files will be larger than normal, you may find this has an impact on the battery playback time.
If you would like to see gapless playback implemented to the iPod, add your voice to the many here.

Be aware also that playback of single large audio files can shorten battery playtime between charges.

  • IPod 5G isn't always playing songs without gaps

I've found that a couple of my albums (encoded in Lame) refuse to play gapless on my iPod even though it plays fine in iTunes. Converting the MP3s to ALAC/AAC both create files which are gapless on the iPod but the original MP3s still won't play right.
It's quite confusing, and annoying. It's obvious that they're fine if iTunes can play and decode them without gaps, so it must be an iPod problem.
    Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   466 MHz, 256MB, 20 GB, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

here's what I posted in another thread with the same problem...
"I had the same problem as well. I had some songs I downloaded from iTunes and others from a CD (imported as MP3). The album was from Panic! At the Disco, and the two songs that flowed that I had a problem with was "But It's Better if You Do" and "I Write Sins, not Tragedies" with "I Write Sins" being the song purchased in iTunes and the other song being the one I ripped from a friend. All I did was convert the other song from MP3 to AAC and that did the trick! Right click (or control click) and select "convert to AAC". If you have "convert to MP3" or another format, change your settings (edit [iTunes if you're doing this on a Mac] ---> preferences ---> advanced ---> importing]
this should help you, if you don't, I'll try to find another way."
in addition, try importing ALL of your CDs in AAC format, and convert any non-AAC formatted files into AAC.

  • How to set each line without gap??

    Hello!!
Could any one help me in setting the records in each line without gap while printing? Right now, each record gets printed with one gap inbetween. I dont want the gap, rather I want to print the records in those gap so that the page usuage will be less, otherwise double usage.

check the Vertical Elasticity of your repeating frame and your fields. If you set it as Variable, it will not use the fixed space like it does now. Play with it and see how it works out for you.

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • Video playback without vsync

    Hi,
when iTunes (v6.0.1)is playing a video the video refreshes partly you can can a horizontal line on the video where the video refreshes. It's like you play a game without vsync turned on. For e.g in a ego shooter when you turn fast the graphics card doesn't wait for the screen and the image is refreshed in the middle of the picture. It doesn't matter if Vsync is for D3d and OpenGL is turned on or not it doesn't effect the playback of iTunes and it doesn't matter which video iTunes is playing (H.264 720p, MP4 320x240, MP4 320x200, standard resolution trailers,...). My machine has a 16:10 Widescreen display (1280x800pixels). Is it possible that has something to do with the widescreen resolution? Is there a tool or plugin for widescreen resolutions for iTUnes. Runs anyone else iTUnes on a widescreen notebook and has the same problem?

thanks for the reply. I checked for new drivers for my grapficchip but I allready have the latest.
My system meets the requirements to HD H.264 720p and which plays fluently. So the system is fast enough. I had acually a different notebook before (widescreen display 1280x800, radeon 9200mobile) and had exactly the same problem so it can't just be me. I think...

  • Import songs without gap

How do I import songs from a CD to my iPod without any gaps between tracks.

    Nomad Drifter wrote:
Tried this, but all it does is join the tracks to make it a single track. However, the gap between songs still remains.
How can the gap remain if you are importing all the tracks on a CD as one singe track?
What CD are you trying to import into iTunes as gapless? iTunes automatically imports CDs that are meant to be gapless (Sgt Pepper, Dark Side Of The Moon etc), but some CDs (ones you have burnt yourself for instance) may not.
So, is the CD a store bought CD?

  • Pattern brush with image without gaps?

    Hi everyone,
I try to create a patternbrush using an image. Image is created in PS and lines up nice horizontaly. Droping it into Illustrator. From there I drag and drop it onto the brush panel and create a patterbrush. I also include an empty rectangle to control the spacing ( suggested elsewhere ? ). If I apply that brush to a curved path there are always little gaps between the segments. How can I construct the brush without the gaps? There is a denimseam brush within Illustrator that does exactly what I try to achieve except I can not. There is a similar thread around that moves away from the topic after a while and did not help me. I´m new to the program so please have some patience with me
    Thanks in advance!
Figured out that the empty rectangle just deforms my image but doesn´t define overlaping. I´m clearly missing something.

    Jacob,
It has something to do with the transparency settings. If I place my source image Ai tells me Transparency->no regardless of png transparency enabled. Then if I use Object-> change to pixelwhatever ( mine is a german version... ) I can enable transparency and voila it works. This all strikes me as some kind of odd and really should be claryfied somewhere, perhaps the manual. I will now do some tests to reliably reproduce this and will post here.
Edit: Confirmed. Using the approach above I allways get the same, good results.

  • F4F playback without a MediaContainer

I started searching the SMP code and the wiki to understand how to parse the bootstrap data and metadata in the F4M manifest (and bootstrap data downloaded from URLs in the manifest.)
I am trying to create a 'virtual' player for HDS live and vod sources.  That is, I need the virtual player to process F4M manfest URLs and start downloading the segments/fragments at the correct timing based on fragment duration, etc, BUT I do not want to demux, decode, or play the fragments.
This may seem strange but I will use this in a test bed to load up producers of HDS streams without having the h/w to play hundreds of HDS streams by the players.  The idea is one computer can run a larger number of virutal players ~ 150 and I can spead the load to just a few computers.
I read most of the intro data on the wiki and in the Media Players & Media Containers section it dawned on me it might be better to use the OSMF player without a MediaContainer.
But I am still naive and wanted to know if the framework would work with such a pruning of a custom player?
And maybe this has already been done in testing the front end of HDS playback in OSMF player and I could use that?
And clues would be much appreciated!

Yes, it's called a deck. Many people use the Sony DSR-11 as a basic deck. Well made and reliable. I also use a JVC BRDV3000U deck and find it very reliable.
Those links are not recommends for the stores, just where I found a reference on google...

  • I would like to be able to take a video from my camera and download it to several iPads for playback without using iTunes?  Possible?

I am taking a video for high school and would like to be able to download on multiple iPads without using iTunes.  Is there an app that would aid me in doing this?

If you have the Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK) and the video that your camera generates is in one of the formats tha the iPad supports then you can directly move it to the iPad with a USB connection.

  • Music doesn't play without gaps

I purchased a 5th Generation iPod because the guy at the Apple store said it had a feature that would allow the songs to flow together as opposed to breaking up every song with 2 or 3 seconds of silence. How do I access this feature on my iPod? I am a massage therapist and a lot of my CD music flows from piece to piece and doesn't need that space but once I transfer those CDs to my iPod, it sounds bad! Help!!! Thanks!

I guess I'm bumping this topic, but I didn't want to start a new one. I Sometimes my 5th generation will make spaces between two songs, then I can play it again and it won't. Then I can play it again, and it will. This is very frustrating when they are songs from a certain album that are meant to flow together. (Think NIN's +The Slip+, +Lights In the Sky+ -> +Corona Radiata+ with a gap....YUCK! The first 6-7 seconds of CR is the last part of LITS.) It plays fine in my iTunes, fine on my Nano, and I have the most recent software update. Any advice?
    Thanks!

  • Audio DVD disc (Encore 2.0) - adding chapters without gaps in sound?

I'm currently building an audio-only DVD for a project that is 24 hours of continuous sound. It consists of 26 separate sound files, each just under an hour. When one file ends and the next begins, instead of a gap-less flow I get about a half second of silence. Does anyone know how to place separate sound files together with chapters so it will play completely uninterrupted?

    Jim.
This problem (WaveLab 5) is caused by your source file being straight WAV. To get a WAV file larger than 2Gb on any 32-bit system it must be encoded as WAV format extensible. AIFF is a good workaround as well.
It's not the fault of WaveLab, but the source file.
    A 24-hour file on a DVD-A?
Not certain you can do this.
we can assume - depending on the music - around 40 to 60% reduction in data. So, 24 * 60 = 1440 minutes
    Data Rate is:
    48(KHz) * 16 (bitrate) * 60 (seconds per minute) * 1440 (minutes) * 2 (tracks) = 132,710 megabits.
Average MLP compression is around 40% (could be higher depending on the music) so 132,710,400 * 0.6 = 79,626 Megabits.
So far, so good - the total capacity of a DVD9 disc is as follows:
    8,500,000,000 (bits) * 8 (bit/bytes) / 1000000 (bits/megabits)
    = 68000 Megabits available.
So we have a shortfall in space here.
Lets see what happens if we reduce to 44.1KHz (This sample rate is DVD-A legal).
    44.1 * 16 * 60 * 1440 * 2 = 121,927Mbits * 0.6 = 73,156 Megabits.
It would depend entirely on exactly how much data reduction the MLP system will give us, and because this is a lossless system it cannot be accurately calculated (VBR = Reduction in Data, CBR = Reduction in Quality)
So I am sorry, but unless you get lucky on the encoding it is not going to fit with 24 hours of lossless material on a DVD9 disc.

  • Corrupted gaps when trying to burn audio CD without gaps

I've tried to burn a mixed song set as a normal audio CD. I had about 20 seperate titles that should play seamless. First I tried Toast 8, setting the gap length to 0 seconds. In Toast I checked the result, and everything sounded perfect. But when I burnt it, the result on CD was somehow corrupted, it seems that at the beginning of the titles one or two seconds are missing. Prefs were set to "Disc-at-once", of course.
The I tried the same with iTunes: Prefs were set to "no gaps", the whole thing sounded well in the playlist, but the resulting CD was again botchy.
I burnt many CDs like that with all my older Macs, this is the first time I have these problems, and the first time I try this on my Alu-iMac with 10.5.
So I really don't know what went wrong. Is it the drive, is it Leopard?
    Please help!

I have the same exact problem trying to burn a disc with iTunes using an external CD/DVD drive. I'm also running OS 10.4.11, but on a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook with 2 GB RAM. My external drive is a Samsung SE-S084C/RSBN.
Has anyone out there found a fix?

  • Final Cut Express - viewing fullscreen camera playback without importing??

    Hi all,
Is it possible to playback a Firewire video camera into Macbook Pro and view the playback full screen on an apple cinema display?
I tried it in iMovie but you only get the standard size video import window.
Will Final Cut Express 4 do it (I have the older version 3 HD).
    Thanks

But does that only work if you have Final Cut Pro installed.
No. It is a separate app, that works outside of FCP.
I just tried Veescope but it wont recognise my camera,
    What camera? COnnected how?
