Playbook and internet dongle connectivity

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to connect an internet dongle to the Blackberry playbook via the micro usb connection?
any advice would be greatly appreciated

You will need a router of some kind to share a USB cellular Internet dongle to create a hotspot. There are small ones available if you're a traveller: http://mobileoffice.about.com/od/mobileaccessories/tp/Top-7-Travel-Wireless-Routers.htm
If you're trying to share a standard USB Wi-Fi dongle via MicroUSB (which doesn't make sense because the PlayBook has a Wi-Fi radio built in) then it can not be done currently because it lacks USB OTG (USB On the Go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go ) capability at this time. The driver is there apparently embedded within the OS but it does not work. No word on if ever it will gain this capability.

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab3 and Telstra dongle connection

I have just bought a samsung tab 3 and would like to share (tether) my current telstra 3G plan to access the net on my tab? How do I do this - I have only a laptop (with 3g dongle connected) and a tab 3. Can I wirelessly pick up my telstra account somehow please?

    Hey hevins,
Firstly, welcome to CrowdSupport. Please stick around and offer any expertise you have in the range of topics we have here, in our Community.
I'm assuming you only have the Telstra USB dongle not the Wi-Fi version where you can easily share your connection with other devices.
In this instance you mentioned that your laptop connects to the internet via the dongle and now would like to get access on your tablet as well via the same connection.
What's the make and model of your laptop? Have you tried connecting your tablet via USB cable and turn on or allow internet sharing service on your laptop?
Quick google search with your laptop make and model and how to share internet connection with tablet should give you some answers. Let us know how you go with this so we can point you in the write direction. Thanks hevins.

  • BlackBerry PlayBook and Internet Explorer?

I am a small business owner and Mac user. My business, however, uses a website that works only with Internet Explorer. In the past I have needed to have a small notebook PC in order to access the site and it is time to get a new computer.
I really would like to check out the new BlackBerry PlayBook and will definitely buy one tomorrow (or Tuesday?)  IF it is possible to use IE on it! I really don't want to spend the money for a PC which would be used only for one purpose (I use my iMac for all other computer needs and my BlackBerry 9780 Bold for a phone. Microsoft stopped supporting Macs after version 5 or 6 of IE so that is the ONLY reason I have a PC.)
Oh please please PLEASE tell me that IE will be compatible with the new tablet!?
Anybody know? If not, might as well get an iPad -AND a new notebook PC -AND a new iMac, right?

Do you know why ? There are only two reasons:
either the website uses ActiveX scripts, and in that case you are out of luck
or the webmaster is simply lazy to convert the website to the W3 and ECMA standards, and in that case you can try and convince them. Once that is done, your website will work on any browser including Safari, Opera, MozillaFirefox and InternetExplorer.

Internet Explorer is currently available for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Windows Mobile, excluding all other operating systems.

  • Facebook updates on N8 and internet being connecte...

    Hi.
I called Nokia customer service on Wed/Thursday (My phone company instructed me to do this because of an issue i was having with the phone) and after explaining my problem, was told to follow the instructions I was given. Turns out, all this did was reset the phone to the original settings - NOT WHAT I WANTED AT ALL !!  Now, on the 'home screen' I can constantly see facebook updates. My contacts don't work properly - among other things!!  (Thanks customer service... not !). My problem was with my internet connection!
My concern is... because i'm seeing the facebook updates, does that mean my internet is running all the time? I certainly dont want to be charged for going over my monthly gig allowance because of something Nokia told me to do!  I'm not phone smart (obvioulsy) at all.  How do i stop these annoying facebook updates and make sure my internet isnt running unless i choose to connect?

It's unlikely it'll run you over your Interent allowance. I get 500MB and have facebook, emails etc delivered to my phone and generally use less than 100MB a month.
Being connected constantly does wear the battery down though so from the homescreen you can either press OPTIONS > Widgets OFFLINE (which doesn't work for me but it should?) Or remove FaceBook completely by OPTIONS > EDIT HOMESCREEN then tap the widget(s) you don't want and it should have the option to remove.
    Think that should do it

  • USB internet dongle connection

I have a mobile telephone with sim card.
I have an old USB dongle.
I put the sim card in the usb dongle and use it to surf the net.
Question is what is best / quickest / cheapest : to use the Huawei Modem over the phone number *99# or to use the "Mobile Partner" software that is on the dongle which uses Ethernet Adaptor (en3) connection.
Basicaly is there any difference between them?

Typically for these types of devices, the hardware and software is packaged together as a solution. So if your dongle is branded Vodacom but you are trying to connect to someone else's network with it, I'm not surprised it isn't working.
I would try taking the whole kit to a Vodafone or T-Mobile store in Germany and see what they have to say about it. Likely they will want to sell you a new dongle compatible with their network, but it's worth asking.

  • Why won't my mobile internet dongle install/connect on my macbook pro?

I have a brand new mac book pro and want to connect to the internet via an orange mobile dongle but I just get a pagecontroller error message. When setting up the internet on the Mac there is no option for mobile dongle connection just ethernet, airport and cable etc
    Any ideas?

    Hello Jo,
Typically USB WAN devices will require a software/driver install. I know on my AT&T device I had to download and install a software client that I would need to run to make the device work and be detected by machine. I wouldn't use the default Network System Preferences. In the case of the Verizon WAN device I have now the drivers were on the device itself and the first time I plugged it in I was prompted to install and configure the device.
I found this article online and hopefully this will be helpful.

    Hi Team,
Showing Yellow icons after every 15 to 20 Min and internet stop working.when we enable- disbale the network connection then will internet start working fine. Some time network connection is disable but when we renable that connection it will stuck on enabling
and will not renable till i am not restart that machine. I have 350 Machine in network but facing this issue in 25 machines. Kindly help me on this issue .

    Hi,
So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • I am wanting to restore my iPhone 4 (not 4s) to it's factory settings. Do I need an internet connection and/or itunes connection to do that??

As the subject suggests I want to restore my iPhone 4 to it's factory settings and am wondering if I need to have an internet and/or itunes connection in order to do that? I just don't want to get 1/2 way through the reset and get stuck because I don't have the required connections..
I DON'T want to restore any of the back-ups! I want to start from scratch..
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you

Thank you Lawrence, I did think that was the case, but it has been a long time since I have had to do it and couldn't remember.
I will have to wait until I get home tonight to do it

  • Client dns and internet connection

    Hi,
Running 10.5.5 Server with basic DNS for inter clients to access AFP/SMB and Wiki services via Open Directory. IP address is 192.168.1.10
Clients currently receive internet via DHCP from a router and Network preferences autofills DNS and search domains with router address 192.168.1.1 and RP614v4 respectively.
If I add the server IP and search domain, I can't see the server via DNS name unless I reverse the order in the fields (192.168.1.10 and ######.private). However this turns the internet connection to snail pace.
How can I get the DNS to work for both the internal server and internet connection?
    Thanks,
    Joel.

If your DNS server is running correctly, there's no reason why it should resolve any slower than the router. The fact you're mentioning it implies that the delay is significant so I'll guess that your clients are requesting an address from your server, but that's timing out so they're falling back to the router before proceeding.
You should check your DNS server to make sure it's set to be recursive (so it answers queries for non-local domains, too). That way the clients can get all lookups from your server and you should be good to go.

  • Just bought a macbook and can't connect to the internet.   very frustrating

i can't connect through my wireless router. it reads it but can't connect. my brothers hp laptop connects to it and works. i brought it to work and tried to connect to the router at work but it failed again. but my bro's hp just reads it right away. i need some help please.

    Hi,
The same happened to me, but here's a fix.
If it is password encrypted, when you first turn on your macbook, and they give you the internet connection list, Click on advance, and select "This computer does not connect to the internet" Then everything will finish installing.
Now when you see the wireless symbol on top of your screen (right next to the blue tooth) select Airport ON if it isn't enabled. Then connect to your wireless router, and when it asks for the password, click on the internet password type, and select the "Wireless WEP 12/48 key...or something like that" and it should connect. That is what I did to my macbook and it worked

Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data.
If this does not work, try to reset the network settings in Settings/General/Reset. After that you'll have to put in the passwords for all known networks again.
