Playbook browser doing really well on HTML 5!

Hello everybody!
I just checked today that the web browser that ships with the Playbook Simulator 0.9.3, provided with the Adobe Air SDK, scores an amazing 248 points on the HTML5 Test!
The just-release SDK 0.9.4 scores 258!!!
This is very impressive if you consider that my desktop Safari 5.0.4 scores only 228 points, the recently released IE 9 scores 130 and the *ubber* Chrome 288.
The maximum score now is 400 and no browser has that yet.
For a tablet that has not hit the shelves yet, this is indeed very promising!
Keep on the good work and please make it possible to have extensions on Playbook's browser!
Cheers!
Cheers!

The PlayBook promises to be a great device.  I'm sure that Steve "employment" guy at that "fruit" company will be keeping a close eye on the rise of the PlayBook.

The best audience for applets is people off the internet. 'People off the internet' might be using a computer that has no (what was it?) 'open.html' in the root of the C: drive. In fact (shock horror) they may not even be running Windows, and would therefore probably have no 'C:' drive at all.
If you do not intend to distribute this to people off the web, an application makes a lot more sense, but even then, you cannot rely on the document being there unless you 'put it there' (during installation, for instance).
As the other poster intimated, applets can load documents off the local disk as long as they are trusted. Here is an example*, but note that it is not so rash as to presume any particular path or file, and instead leaves it to the user to choose the document to display.
    * The short code can be seen at SDNShare on the [Defensive Loading of Trusted Applets|http://sdnshare.sun.com/view.jsp?id=2315] post.
On the other hand, a sandboxed applet can load any document coming from its own server via URL, or get showDocument(URL) to work. In that case, the JRE must recognize that the URL is from its own server, so the best way to form URLs for applet use is via the URL constructor
new URL(getDocumentBase(), "path/to/open.html");That is how I form the URL in this [ sandboxed example of formatting source|http://pscode.org/fmt/sbx.html?url=/jh%2FHelpSetter.java&col=2&fnt=2&tab=2&ln=0]. Of course, in this case the applet loads the document, then parses the text to draw the formatted version, but the point is that an URL produced this way will work with showDocument(URL).
I am pretty sure showDocument() in an applet off the internet will work with an URL pointing to a foreign (not its own) server, but it will not be able to load documents off the end user's local disks.
I suggest a couple of things.
    - Try to express this problem in terms of what feature it is that you want to offer the end user. Your question jumps directly to a bad strategy for achieving ..who knows what? An example of a feature is "Shows the applet 'help' files on pressing F1".
    - A good way to indicate interest in a solution is to offer [Duke stars|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Duke+Stars+Program+Overview] to match that interest.
    Edit 1:
..and please figure out how to use the CODE tags.

Hi. I use Adobe Acrobat XI pro to make a PDF ebook embedded with audio. It works really well on my computer-I can read the book and hear the auto play mp3. The problem is, when I send it to my customers, they have difficulty hearing the audio. A few of them say they have Flash player on their PC and somehow they still can't hear, some say their Google Chrome browser tells them they've already got one flash player while they try to download one. For me, I had to download two versions of Flash player to be able to access to the audio. I don't know what the problem is, is it because it's the latest version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro that people with older version of Adobe reader or flash player can't open it properly? Or is it something else? How can I make sure every customer with different system can access to my books? Hope to hear from you ASAP! Thank you very much.

And how are the customers accessing the PDFs?
    What devices are they using?
What program or apps with versions are they using?
I this age of other then PDF eBooks formats and reader program and apss for computers and mobile devices for these formats I would look at creating the books in one or more of the eBook formats.
Google Chrome and FireFox both have their own version of a PDF reader plug-in and they are well known to be less capable than Adobe Reader. It is possible to configure these products to use Adobe Reader.

  • Google music beta not compatible with playbook browser please fix soon

i love my playbook but have a arequest that i am sure i am not alone in wanting. the website for the new google music beta does not work correctly in the playbook browser. you can visit the site and login to your account. the problem comes when trying to access ANY of your uploaded music. the albums display their thumbnails fine in the initial page but when you tap to open the album the site gives an error of "Couldnt open the album. Please try again." also if you tap any of the links on the left side of the page you get a similar error for each link "unable to open .... etc". you also get this unable to open error when trying to use the search function of the site. in effect this site is completely unusable in the playbook.
this site would hopefully be an easy fix to make our devices compatible with since it works with ANY other browser i have tried to access it with except the playbook. i have no way to test the bridge browser so i cant speak to whether it works there or not. also my software on the playbook is the latest version of the OS 1.0.5.2304 and it wouldnt work with the last version either. your attention on this i am sure would be appreciated by more than just myself as there are thousands of users of the new google music beta.
thanks and keep up the good work of making the playbook the best tablet.

So I had this same issue. After one of the recent updates I could not get app world to load. The suggestion was to do a security wipe. After doing this Google music has been working for me.
The one issue is the playbook times out after 5 mins on not touching it. For that Igrabed this app silent noise whivh prevents screen time out. Not perfect but it works.

  • Well indented html code in DW

    hi,
i use DW8 and i recently found out that DW does not make a
well indented HTML code. earlier i ignored this. this problem
surfaced recently when the asp programmers using visual studio said
that every time i give them a html page, they have to indent it
properly so that they are able to code properly which results in
some time being wasted. why is that DW cannot write proper indented
html code in the first place? will this be fixed in future or this
will continue? is there any extension which i can use to properly
    indent it?

  • E71 default browser does not open links

    Hello everybody,
I am facing this strange behavior on my E71 default browser.
Say that I go to the google page and look for something, e.g.. Java.
I click the search button and the browser displays a list of results.
However, when I click on any of the links, the browser does not open it!!!
I also need to mention that it used to work some time ago. Unfortunately I am able to tell you what I have done/installed in order to break it.
Any ideas would be appreciated. My firmware is updated to the latest E71 available: 501.21.001
Thank you very much and kind regards,

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox with GoogleDocs, "Your browser does not allow access to your computer's clipboard." Solution?

This question was asked two months ago and never solved, so I thought I'd bring it up again, as it's new to me and perhaps Firefox has changed since then. I know it's Google, but as it pokes at Firefox, thought I'd take a shot. This is the previous question:
    [[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/867479?s=firefox+access+to+clipboard&r=3&as=s|Previous question]]
Basically, when using GoogleDocs with a right-click cut/copy and paste, it doesn't function. I get the error message above: "Your browser does not allow access to your computer's clipboard." It's as simply broken as that. I recently had an issue in Firefox with the clipboard that required a system restore to solve, so that may be related.
I have done three different virus/malware scans on my computer, and everything comes back clean. Which it should be, as I'm a very careful user.

Yes, that was the first thing that I tried. I really couldn't get it to do... anything useful at all. So I'm guessing it's somehow different in detail, though the question is the same; Firefox vs. the Windows clipboard. It's difficult of course, when working with Google, to figure out where Firefox's code issues end and Google's overblown invasive code begins.
At any rate, no, that extension did not help. But thank you for the suggestion.
I'm sure that there's a solution out there somewhere....

( ii ) What is the difference between the two files as far as the format goes? I thought HTML 4.01 is equivalent to XHTML 1.0? In other word, they are already well-formatted and so they can be parse directly by an XML parser such as Xerces. In other word, it is not necessary to use tool such as Tidy to convert to clean up missing tags?
( iii ) why are the tags in the former file in capital? Do parsers in general distinguish tags in capital compared to lower case?
I am very new to XML parsing and would appreciate some guidances.
    Thanks a lot,
    Jack

    Hi,
I am following a possible solution (http://devdiary.motime.com/post/471628/Why+implement+your+own+EntityResolver?) on how to redirect references to entities within an XML document to a local file but do not understand why it is not picking up the parsing file (former). Below is a complete change of ZipcodeTidy2JDomParser to include my own EntityResolver:
    1  public class ZipcodeTidy2JDomParser {

Could any see where this issue is coming from?
The author of the same thread suggest that line 5 should add an extra parameter (SAXBuilder saxBuilder = new SAXBuilder(false, "http://www.w3c.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd"). However, the SAXBuilder constructor does not accept the second paramter. Any ideas?
    Many thanks,

  • Pandora message "Pandora believes your browser does not support modern SSL/TLS" and everything seems disabled on the site-how fix?

I have been using Firefox for a long time as my browser and typically play Pandora while at my office most days. For the first time today I received a pop up message "Pandora believes your browser does not support modern SSL/TLS. Consider upgrading your browswer" when I logged on to Pandora. I checked and I am on the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. I am unable to control volume or log out of Pandora now. I did some google searches and found Mozilla disabled ssl3.0 due to a "Poodle" attack. Does that mean that I can no longer use Firefox as my browser when I want to listen to music on Pandora or is there "a fix"? Thanks!

Mozilla Firefox as of Firefox 34 has the vulnerable SSL 3.0 disabled and only allows for TLS 1.0 at minimum to 1.2 now.
    https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2014/10/14/the-poodle-attack-and-the-end-of-ssl-3-0/
So Pandora is incorrect if they believe Firefox is not safe to use.
Actually Pandora potentially needs to do a bit of upgrading themselves.

  • Passbook: Works REALLY WELL

iOS 6 Passbook App. Really works well and is pretty **** cool! I have only one account I can use with it at this time, my Walgreens Balance Rewards card. Got the card loaded into Passbook on my iPhone. Had to download the Walgreens app first, scan my plastic card, then add it to Passbook. Also chose my preferred store, which is the one two blocks away from me. After it was added to Passbook, I was able to delete the Walgreens app from my phone. Walked over to Walgreens and was thinking "is this gonna work"? Yeah, it worked. Really well. It's so accurate that it waited until I actually entered through the doors of the store and was about two or three feet into the store and then my phone suddenly lit up telling me my Rewards card was available for use in the store. I picked up an item off the self and went to the cashier to pay, slid to view my card in Passbook on my iPhone and the cashier scanned my rewards card off of my phone. Paid and out I went. So, no need to carry that plastic card in my wallet any more. Cashier said I was the first person to use the new Passbook app with their card in that store.

Well it works great with Walgrens, but Fandango where it would be useful does nothing despite the touted linkage.
Why can't any instructions and background be issed with new apps like this. It becomes a tease and hence annoying.
