Playbook crashes - won't restart
Hi - hoping someone can help. Will try to get this right.
Had a problem with playbook freezing and crashing when I tried to use blackberry bridge link - almost always when launching the second bridge app (eg. had messages open, and crash would occur when I tried to launch calendar or contacts). Upgraded phone from Bold 9000 to Torch and this seemed to fix it, but it's back again today on the Torch after recent playbook software upgrade. This may of course be coincidental.
Very, very frustrating. Reboot sequence with power button just doesn't seem to work - it's been several hours now. I've checked power button topics and none seem to match my circumstances exactly.
This is going to be a serious issue for RIM - it's not much good having a tablet that not only crashes when you try to launch part of the software on which the selling point was based, but then can't be re-started.
Help would be much appreciated - even if it is to let me know that it's a problem being worked on and a solution is on the way soon.

You should be able to have more than one Bridge app open at a time.
What is your installed Bridge version? Are you able to have other applications open at a time outside the Bridge?

Which is the day after you had the above problem - is it still occurring exactly the same? Can you pick anything in /var/log/messages at the time it dies? -
Why crash on exit in Win 2000 then won't restart?
since about V5 Firefox crashes on exit about 40% of the time. The crash message says a dump could not be created. After such a crash about 25% of the time it won't restart unless I reload Firefox. With V7 after a crash if it won't restart a reload won't fix it.

Unless you purchased AppleCare to extend the one year limited warranty, then your warranty has run out.
The whirrs and clicks of the startup are not loud or repetitive, but are present intermittently.

It's impossible to say whether or not the drive is salvageable. I hope you had all your important files backed up. -
Hi everyone
Ever since my iphoto library crashed (ran out of space without warning) my mcbook pro has been slow, unresponsive, freezes in sleep mode and won't restart...
I've since backed everything up on an external hard drive, removed the corrupt library, even reinstalled the operating software and there is now hardly anything on the hard drive, it still runs painfully slow. If I close the lid which puts it in sleep mode, it either doesn't go into sleep mode but instead the battery just gets drained and I find it completely empty of power (it won't start again unless plugged in), or it goes into sleep mode but just freezes when I try to reopen.
In iphoto (reinstalled) but even other applications it is painfully slow, not like a mac at all!
I am trying to go to genius bar with it but thinking maybe someone in this forum can help...

yes, all three steps, more than once. (problem started on old computer. continues on new. Lots of HD space. vaults fail to update on various HDs. I just tried a new tack- turned off photostream and FB updates. I'll restart and try again.
During the year, did usual upgrades. Started using scanning software, adobe acrobat, Hazel, Alfred this year. Citrix to call into work network. Cloud storage with Microsoft, iCloud, Snapsugar. Who knows what might have done this!

Photoshop CS6 crashes, won't reload
My Photoshop continually crashes and won't restart. Hangs on Measuring Memory. I'm forced to restart my computer each time. The crashes appear to be random. The application stops responding and i'm forced to force quit. Won't reload unless I restart my computer. Is it time to reinstall? Or toss computer out a window?
I found 2, but none from this morning. As I said, the program hangs, so I just force quit. Is a crash report generated at that point? the most recent photoshop 6 crash is below. thanks for taking the time to review!

For some reason after doing an update last night, my computer won't restart. I did 3 updates, one for iTunes, one that said "Pro Support for QuickTime" I think, and a 3rd one that I really don't remember.
Here's a detail of what happened:
1. Did the 3 updates. It did not ask for a restart.
2. Checked my email and a couple websites with Firefox.
3. The finder crashes. I can't find any way to fix it without doing a hard reboot so that's what I do.
4. When my computer starts up it gets to my desktop, and a window pops up that asks if I want to send the details of the crash to Apple. I click on "Ok" instead of "Details".
5. A few seconds later, while it's OSX is still loading up, the screen goes blue and shows the spinning OS loading thing (not the beachball, the little circle thing that indicates OSX is loading).
6. Then it randomly shows my desktop for a few seconds, and then goes back to the blue screen, and then back and forth.
It doesn't get past this stage now. I cannot move anything or start any apps quick enough because it goes to the blue screen.
Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more details if you ask.
I will most likely take it in for repairs as long as it doesn't cost the amount to buy a new computer.The Finder's crashing. Search these forums for *Finder crash*, *Finder crashing*, etc. There's been a bit of traffic on the subject. Also, boot with your install disk and launch Disk Utility, then repair the disk and permissions.

Finder Crashing, Can Not Restart, The World is Blowing Up
I'm at a loss here. My computer, even after a clean install is simply not behaving well. For example:
1. I can't restart the computer. When I choose restart, the dock and menu bar go away and then I get stuck at the desktop picture. The spinning lines just spin and spin and spin and it won't restart.
2. I can't shut down the computer, the exact same thing happens.
3. Every time I start up, Spotlight has to index every drive connected to my computer. Every time.
4. Finder crashes about once a day and crashes so hard sometimes that I have to hard restart.
5. Most applications are completely unstable and crash often.
The steps I've taken to remedy the situation:
1. Reinstalled the full 10.5.1 updater
2. Zapped the PRAM
3. Booted from the Leopard disk and repaired permissions
4. Single-user mode to run fsck
5. Disconnected everything but my keyboard and mouse and I still couldn't restart
6. Removed any applications that might not be playing well with Leopard (i.e. not specifically noted that it works with Leopard)
I'm using the in-the-box keyboard and mouse for my iMac. I've never added any after-market things to my iMac like a new hard drive or RAM. Everything in the machine is the stuff that came with the machine. I do have a 500GB FW400 and a 2TB FW800 hooked up. I also have an HP printer, Sony Cyber-shot, iPhone dock, and USB hub connected to my iMac.
Are there any tests I can run that might help me identify the problem? I'm not looking forward to lugging this to an Apple Store only to have it taken away for a couple of weeks while they try and figure out what's wrong.Hi
You could try reinstalling a clean OS and not preserve network users and settings. Repair the disk beforehand. If your mac is stable the whole time the installer is doing this odds are its not your mac that is the problem.
However assuming you may have a hardware fault
Switch your mac off and turn it up on its end, use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the one retaining screw that allows you access to the RAM slots, touch something metallic to ground yourself and remove both sticks of RAM. Now place the mac right way up insert the power cord and depress the power on button. You should see the boot light flash regularly as well as hearing a single monotone beep. Depress the power on button again to power off the mac, remove the power cord, turn the mac over and re-insert one of the RAM modules in the rightmost slot. Make sure it is seated correctly and in place. Be firm when installing RAM but don't be too rough. Turn the mac rightway round again, insert the power cable and see if it boots normally. If still no joy repeat the instructions until you have tried both RAM modules singularly in each RAM slot. If at the end of all this your mac is still playing up, take it to your nearest Apple Authorized Repair Specialist.

This is a common if infrequent issue, but my new MacBook Air running 10.9.2 won't restart after sleep. I've connected it to a Thunderbolt display, and after sleep all I get is a finger pointer on the display and nothing else. Only shutting down and restarting works.
I've seen this issue in other posts, but it's never affected me until I replaced my previous MacBook Air with a new one.

Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot? I get a gray "curtain" over the light gray start up screen with a message that I need to restart my computer and to hold the power button until it powers off and then press the power button again to restart. It just does this over and over again and won't restart.
Yeah, as necronym stated, it is a hardware issue and more than likely a RAM problem. Disconnect everything from the computer except keyboard and mouse and try again. If it still happens try removing one and/or swapping your RAM sticks over. Keep trying until you have eliminated all possible combinations. Just put a mark on one RAM stick so you know what have tried. If it still fails to boot properly you should probably replace your RAM, but that is no guarantee of success. Neo2 Platinum won't restart in WinXP
I recently RMA'd a Neo2 Platinum board because the SATA3/4 ports were not being detected during the Windows XP Pro setup. I received the board yesterday and the ports are now detected properly but I've encountered another perturbing problem. I've discovered that the computer won't restart via software. What I mean is after the NTFS format of the hard drive in Windows setup the computer is supposed to reboot on its own to proceed with the installation of the OS but in my case I have to physically press the restart button on my machine to continue with the install. Windows XP will fully install on the hard drive however the operating system can only turn off the PC, it won't restart it. It merely hangs.
I've tried reposition memory sticks, use a different IDE cable, another power supply, clearing the CMOS via the jumper, reverse updating the BIOS twice, and using the safe defaults in the BIOS but nothing has worked. This isn't the first time I've put a computer together and I've built quite a few but this is one abnormality I've never before encountered. I just hope this board doesn't have to be RMA'd yet again.

I ran the suspect code which i believed was causing the issue as a standalone Java program using the same Java executable and it worked fine without any crash.

Good day.I just wanted to throw in one more thought. I have also seen that there is a restart=true parameter. Maybe if we set this to true, and just issue the command to shut down the server in the script, the managed server will restart on its own.

ITunes won't open and won't restart
I've been having some sporadic problems with iTunes (9.x, whatever the latest iteration is), where from time to time it will refuse to quit and then won't restart or reopen. What is the best workflow for troubleshooting this little dilemma?

My Iphone 5 went black and won't restart. There is a white apple in the middle that lights up. But the phone won't restart.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
