REALLY RIM!!! WTH?? So BBM doesn't work on my PB either now. Telling me it's not compatible when I have all the new versions of OS..etc..etc no upgrades available in the APP Store...sheesh! Losing my excitement here..man!
BBM only work via Bridge app.
To get BBMessenger on the PlayBook, you need 3 things:
Bridge update (1.0.0.83), I recomend 1.0.4.9 which is latest
PlayBook OS (1.0.3) or higher, best to get the latest version of PlayBook OS now at 1.0.7.2670
BBM update (5.0.3.22) available on App World via your smartphone.
Links for Bridge if your carrier blocks it in app world.

  • Apple please provide way to disable Edge but enable WiFi

I am planning a trip outside the US. I have read the posts about people who spend a week abroad and come back to an outrageous AT&T bill because of the international Edge usage charges (sometimes even incidental). I called AT&T and yes they have an international data plan but for a 1 week trip I would have to pay $25/month for a year or pay a huge cancellation fee. Another attempt to gouge their customers. So that is not an option. How can I use the wireless on my phone without using edge?? Airplane mode turns off both. There is no way to enable only wifi. How can I do something as simple as check for messages without edge? How can I safely use just wifi at the hotel or other hotspots? I don't want to have to leave my phone in airplane mode for a week but until apple provides a way to disable edge while enabling wifi I most likely will have to.

    take paperclip...
    unfold paperclip...
insert paperclip into small hole next to headphone jack...
    eject sim card...
remove sim card and place in safe spot...
    return metal tray to phone...
enjoy using wifi & iPod features of phone...
reverse process to re-enable phone & edge

  • Can i use my playbook as a GPS without wifi niether bridge connection?

can i use my playbook as a GPS without wifi niether bridge connection?
    please help me!!!
    Solved!

@vanawful, the GPS capability comes from the TI WiLink 7 chip (WL-1283) that provides all the wireless capabilities for the WiFi-only PlayBook.
Although the jury's still out on whether different units may behave differently, so far it appears likely every unit *can* work, under the right conditions, but problems in the software (OS level) or possibly in the chip itself (nobody's saying yet) mean that it's quite unreliable.
There is no need to have WiFi enabled for it, and I've used the GPS frequently now with WiFi off and no nearby hotspots, no tethering (I don't even have a smartphone), and just the GPS running.
If you pick a clear day (i.e. no big rain clouds off to the south, etc), are out in the open without buildings or other things blocking the view of the sky, make certain you are not covering up the lower-right corner of the PlayBook where it appears the GPS antenna is, run the Compass app, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes (if this is your first time using it) so it can find and download ephemeris data from each satellite, you should see it start reporting lat/long positions after that.
If you do this, and it doesn't work, try again. Then try again. Maybe try another time. Preferably do this on different days too, and possibly after a reboot. Yes, it appears to be that flaky sometimes...
I've written my own GPS recording app (no fancy map... just records the readings) and done numerous tests at this point. The readings, when they arrive, are generally exceptionally good. The main problem is getting them to actually arrive and, so far, I've found nothing that can force the issue. Even with my own app, I sometimes have to start it up and leave it alone for some minutes, 4-5 times, before I get the first reading, and there are days I've just given up and moved on. The next day it will simply work. It's largely random.
The three single biggest things you need to remember to get any readings: be outdoors away from big buildings, don't pick a heavily overcast day, and do NOT hold the unit with your right hand covering the bottom right corner (when held in the default landscape orientation with the cameras on top, that is).

  • Playbook will not connect to WiFi on Via Rail trains

Hi I have been using my Playbook for a year. I take Via Rail between Ottawa and Montreal frequently. My Playbook will never connect to the WiFi on the train even though I can "see" the open connection. The Playbook connects to the Via WiFi in any station (as welll as connecting with no problem everywhere else) but not on the train. I have tried calling the Via Rail WiFi provider who said something about adjusting the system (but I think that each train has its own server and settings). I have the latest updates to the Playbook OS. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply.
My problem is that, no matter how many times I try to connect, I get a "connection timed out" message. In fact, the last time that I was able to connect was on the Toronto-Ottawa run last December (where you have successfully connected as well), so maybe the in-car routers on that route are configured somewhat differently from those on the Ottawa-Montreal route. I have written to Via Rail but don't expect any answers from them.
I can also see, by looking through the Blackberry Playbook posts, that others have experienced similar connection issues quite often, in different locations.
So - there seems to be some software issues with the Playbook connecting to some WiFi hotspots which no one seems able to identify.

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Start with the section titled Check the network.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Printer sees wifi, Laptop sees wifi, but laptop doesn't see printer

I'm trying to connect my new LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw all in one to my laptop. I've already set it up via USB on my desktop and that went off without a hitch. I got the printer on the wifi (I can print out a Network Summary and Config Report that list the printer's IP and specifically say it's connected to my network) but now I'm running into problems getting my laptop to "see" the printer. Each time I try to run the install, I get the "Can't Find Product(s)" message. I've got my firewall off and I've tried using the troubleshooting methods on the HP site but nothing seems to work.
I've tried manually adding a printer through Windows, but it's not able to find the printer by IP address or hostname.
Please help before I beat the nice new printer with a bat "Office Space"-style.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It looks like we fixed it. This is what we did:
    1) Installed the HP software via USB on the desktop
2)Confirmed that the printer was on the network by pressing the WPS button on the router and pressing holding the WiFi button on the printer for 2 seconds, then seeing a connection successfull message on the printer
    3) Still on the desktop, added it as a wireless printer through Windows (Start > Devices and Printers)
    4) Shared the printer with all users on the network
    5) Switched to the laptop and used WIndows to add a printer. Once we shared the printer from the desktop, the laptop was able to see it.
I am going to go back and try connecting the laptop to the printer via USB to finish installing the scanning software etc. But I was able to print a doc wirelessly so I'm satisfied.

  • Disabling always ontop for wifi pop-up window

I'm not sure this is the correct forum in do this in, but I have a problem with using the Wifi at my university and the multi-desktop feature of OS X Yosemite.
When I log onto my university wifi it comes up with a Safari pop-up window detailing my internet usage. Unfortunately, it doesn't take into account the multi-desktop feature of OS X Yosemite. The window is always on top of all the desktops - it sits in front of my Word document, my pdf document, my general web browsing etc. When I swipe between the desktops it just just comes along and gets in the way.
There are no options on the window other than closing it. Unfortunately, if I close the window, it disables my connection.
Is there a way to disable the 'always on top' nature of this window?

The answer was provided here:How to stop the wifi pop-up window?

  • Playbook will not connect over WiFI to my MAC for File Sharing

    Just as the Ttitle says.
It doesn't even show up as a USB drive when I plug it in via the supplied USB cable.
WiFI File Sharing is pretty much the biggest feature I'll use on this device, so getting it up and running smoothly is a must and if I can't get it working soon I'll just return it.
I find this very frustrating since it's apperantly supposed to work straight out of the box.
    Finder>Go>Connect To Server
    smb://PLAYBOOK (Name of my Playbook)
    Attempting to connect to server
There was a Problem Connecting to the server "PLAYBOOK"
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. CHeck the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Those are the three screens I get, sorry I can't upload the Screen/Window shots I took.

    Go to Storage & Sharing/
    Network Identification/
    look at the user name
in my case the playbook assigned the name "playbook"
when I loogged in with that username it worked.
Now why did it do that?

  • March Win Update Disabled All Touch Screens, Wifi and BT? WHY?

    I give up - everything I have done, this is a brand new Dell Inspiron - both images are shown below, one from Registry Editor - showing proof of the Mainboard's date and the BIOS. I run on a Touch Screen, Win 8.1 Pro - I had exhausted everything in the world;
even Microsoft Tech Support in Tier 3 can't figure this out - it was working fine all along, but come late February; MSFT comes with these new Windows Updates and making it worse March wipes out literally the BT (Bluetooth), turning off completely the WiFi
(although all are enabled in Services) and considering this is one expensive piece of equipment here ... C'mon now... All my Firmware and everything else is up to date and up to par and was working peachy until Intel came up with their update of the Intel
i5 Core (see below in Device Manager - you will see where Microsoft Windows and which KB is it - I am clueless now, because the info is vague and I've had to wipe out the entire HDD and reinstall it via the OEM DVD Win 8.1 and redo the whole reinstallation
all over again) and you are installing via Windows Update i7 Series and this is not an i7 Processor - there are no i7 series for i7 Core Processors - I am sorry... Intel does not have this. Then with Bluetooth; I give up - I have it all (hidden) uninstalled
and wiped out literally; superimposed for security reasons because for the life of me I have no earthly idea where to even start anymore, neither does Microsoft Tier 3 either.... they are clueless too!  Now you've disabled my Touch Screen with your March
Updates where this now is completely a DESKTOP and it is not designed for mouse usage; it is designed for swipe or touch and go ... self sufficient are the images posted below for you to see and figure this one out yourselves.... I've done everything possible!
    Yes, everything is there and functional once everything is reinstalled but once that Windows Update begins - that is where the problem begins, I have the Windows Update on MANUAL Mode so I can view the KB's but sadly, many of the KB's are very vague in information;
this is not helping me here - before I know it; I am right back to square one! Since this will only limit me to two images - so the best I can provide you is that of BIOS and Device Manager to show what mess the Windows Update is giving everyone who has touch
screens (RT - Ultrabook to Surfaces) a massive headache;  you cannot turn it on, if it were possible - I could show you also how these are enabled in Services.
PS: NOTE - the Service Tag has been Blacked Out to prevent theft - there are no information there that people can steal from in BIOS and the other from Device Manager (followed by the BIOS first) ... go and figure these out yourselves... I am throwing in
the towel; it has nothing to do with the Manufacturer - everything was working just fine; but I can't disable Windows Update because I need it! See the point - it is futile and vain!

May I know your detail Dell Inspiron model?
What I suspected is, Dell launched the newest update for your Chipset, Bluetooth, WIFI and Touchscreen driver or software. Since you perform Windows update, OS will obtain latest driver via Windows update. Maybe incompatible driver which comes from
Windows update didn't match with your PC OEM hardware, that the reason why processor information, Bluetooth, WIFI and touchscreen don't functioning normally even worse will they turn grayed out or disable.
What I suggest here you check at Dell site, maybe there is update driver for this specific Dell model. Or let me try to find it for you. You can also download manually from there and applied the update
And maybe incomplete or corrupted Windows update process and downloaded files will caused issues like this

  • Disabling web browsing and Wifi Itunes music store

We're thinking of getting a iPod touch for the kids for xmas and I'm wondering if there is a way to disable web browsing and iTunes wifi access, since I understand there are no parental controls available on the touch. Thanks

yes there is no way to disable this icons, and the only way to do this is to put a password on your wireless router settings, this way they don't know the password and that they can not access the safari, youtube, and the wi-fi itunes music store.

MSohm (Edit note) - Moved message to new thread and edited subject.

Try turning off the power again, but this time disconnect the power cord and USB cable for 5 minutes.
Then reconnect the power cord and turn on and check the network settings (in case the IP address has changed - it should not have but check anyway). Then open Network Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select the Ping tab. Enter the IP address of the MX860 and press Ping. You should get a ping response for each packet sent. If you do, then it shows there is a working path between the Mac and the MX. If there is no response, then there is an issue with the wireless connection between the Mac and the MX.

  • Does iPhone4 (Verizon) automatically DISABLE 3G when in WiFi?

I know that when in WiFi, the iPhone4 will prefer / use the WiFi network instead of the 3G network.  However, my question is whether the iPhone automatically disables the 3G radio when in WiFi.  I have unlimited 3G data, but WiFi is faster and is also better on the battery, so when I am in WiFi I prefer to use it instead of 3G.  I want 3G disabled while I am in WiFi to save battery.  Of course, I can manually go in, enable WiFi and disable 3G, but I have noticed that when my iPhone connects to WiFi, the WiFi antenna symbol replaces the 3G symbol next to the Verizon bars.  This makes me wonder if the iPhone is actually turning off 3G automatically when it connects to WiFi versus just preferring WiFi but still having the 3G radio on.
    Thanks!

Perhaps I didn't phrase the question exactly right.  I can go into Settings and disable 3G (actually on the Vz iPhone it is Disable Cellular Data), which leaves voice connectivity but no ablity to get 3G data, and helps preserve battery.  When I am in WiFi, does the iPhone automatically disable Cellular Data or does this still have to done manually?  Thanks!
