Playbook Not Charging

Okay so I am needing help with my Playbook. It is not wanting to charge but this is because I have a couple of children that decided to put a different type of charger that was not meant for the Playbook and have since messed up the prong where my Playbook charger would attach. Is there anything else "charger wise" that will allow me to charge it without this Playbook going to waste?

  • Playbook not charging although led show charging

The green LED began to flash and now it appears to be normal charging But battery is not charging and PB is off. Any one help

What was the lead up to this? Have you been using the device and charging it regularly and then this? Did you let the battery run flat?
It is possible for the battery charge to be so low the device can't charge the battery, That could happen if you left the device and let the battery discharge too much over a period of time. If you think that is the case, look up stack charging, or stacked charging.
It is also possible the device is broken or worn out in some other way.
    Good luck.

  • Blackberry Playbook not charging -have two exactly the same and both not connecting to charger...help!!

Bought my two children a playbook each last Christmas. They were fine for the first six months but have had problem after problem with charging and battery life ever since. It has now come to the point that the playbooks haven't been used for the past few months and are sat on the computer desk, unused!! The chargers do not connect-they're plugged in, but the connection doesn't get through. I have also bough numerous other compatible chargers but have had the same problem with them so we now know it is the playbook rather than the charger.
Has anyone else had this problem? HELP!! We don't want to waste the money we spent on two Playbooks only a year ago-I don't think six months use is acceptable from a piece of technology such as this.

    Hello mljackson680,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
If you're receiving the flashing green LED light, it sounds like the BlackBerry PlayBook battery is completely drained.  I suggest plugged the BlackBerry PlayBook into the wall charger for several hours to get a charge again.
Let me know if the issue still persists after charging it after several hours.

  • Playbook does not charge

My playbook is not charging, at first i thought i need a new charger but that is not the problem.
The issue is with the charge connecter on the playbook it needs replacing, i took it to a few places to see if they can fix it and no one would touch it.
    Any ideas please.

Standard reply on here is spend around 20 to 30 dollars/euros on the playbook rapid charger that uses the three pin magnetic connector to the right of the usb. Use wifi sharing to transfer files.

  • Playbook red light flashing 1 long 4 short, will not charge, not able to connect to PC

I have many Playbooks in my family; my younger son's Playbook will not charge just flashing 1 long 4 short red lights.  I used a good logic board to charge the battery to full 100%, then put the problem  logic board back, it still flashing red lights. The problem is causing by my son has left the battery drain too low (no physical damage to the tablet); according to your suggestion to upgrade the OS to solve the problem, but my PC could not see this tablet (I know the USB port is good).  My question is the logic board beyond fixing, I have tried the button methods, none of them worked. Any suggestion?

  • My brand new PB will not charge when in standby or when on

I played with a number of PB's so far and finally have my own but... My brand new PB will not charge when in standby or when on; as soon as I plug the charger into the USB port it detects it and brings the screen up (if in standby) showing the lighting bolt on the battery but it does not charge; the lighting bolt stays but the % charge does not change (or hopefully increase) at all; it will actually decrease (??); the only way I can charge it is when I attach the charger and the PB is powered off… the PB brings the red (or green can't remember) LED on and starts to flash it on off and charges; tried the hard reset with no change; I am running the latest OS release 1.0.8.6067. Has anyone seen this? Is it h/w or f/w? Any Fix?

Here's a final update on this... the units goes back to its maker or the store sometimes tomorrow... Why? First I tried to understand if this was s/w or h/w related or maybe both before calling support which in the end I did; so I did try a different charger, hard resetting the unit, discharging and recharging etc; nothing helped or fixed the charging in standby; the unit continued to charge only after being turned off and then plugged into the charger. Here's what I learned:
    1. Going through the initial setup and OS update it is quite possible for the unit to NOT load the OS image correctly i.e.  it appears that it loaded the OS and displays the OS version as if it loaded properly when in fact it did not and the image loaded is corrupt. I found this out during a live session with support when they were looking at my PC screen while the PB was connected to the PC only to point out that the Desktop Manager was showing a s/w update being available (1.0.8 bundle 6067) while the unit was reporting 1.0.0 bundle 0. Strange, I thought I already had 1.0.8.6067... after accepting the update, which takes a bit to load, I started more testing, charging, discharging, hard reset (i.e. Volume Up + Power) etc with no positive results to report. This also proved that the USB port is working, both data (PC to PB communication alright) and power (PB displays the plug over the battery bar when the power contact work)
    2. The charger I have works and it is the correct one: P/N PSM09A-050RIM; make sure it is not one of the incorrectly rated chargers some received.
    3. In order to reduce the amount of current the unit consumes when on, you have to run the Video Chat app at least once and acknowledge the (c) page; otherwise this remains as a background app that take more CPU cycles on the battery. After doing this I did notice a slight improvement in the sense that PB did charge some instead of discharging. The problem is that it only charged to about 60% and did not move higher no matter how long I waited (yes I did reset just to make sure it is not the s/w acting up and deciding to not update the power bar)
    4. The way the RIM RMA works is like this: they start the process for you to return the unit back for repair which I understand may take 10 days; you may get a unit to use for this time if so desired, it will be charged to your CC; your unit may get repaired if possible; if not possible to repair, your new unit will be replaced with a refurbished unit; once you get some unit back you need to send the “10 day replacement unit” to RIM to get your CC charge cleared. I find that this program is good for when you can not return the unit to the place you purchased it from. Otherwise it is not good as I do not like getting a refurb for something I consider brand new (not to mention that you may get a unit with a few bright or dark pixels)
    5. Throughout this process I looked at three (3) Playbooks: 2 had bright pixels and were returned immediately; this last one does not charge correctly. No win for me!
    6. The battery lasts approx 4 hours with the unit playing a video clip in a loop and WiFi on with a WEB pulled stop watch running as well (had to allow multi tasking in setup/general).
Finally, my theory about this problem is that it is h/w related and that it is caused by the noise the board or the display is making when the unit is either on or in standby; a component not soldered properly (cold joint) or out of spec may be the culprit; for example a resistor in resistor divider monitoring the battery voltage or a decoupling capacitor missing or not soldered...

  • Playbook wont charge !! even after been plugged in

    hi
i have a blackberry playbook 32gb , its been 5 months that i have been using it. this is the first time it is giving me this strange problem. the playbook is not charging at all even after being connected to the charger for hours.
i have restarted my playbook several times, but no help. i have reseated my charger many times. the wall socket works fine. the charger to me seems to work fine because with the same charger i can charge my blackberry phone. so for sure i know its the charger its the playbook which has the issue it could be the connecting port or some software in it. i am not that good in it. can some one please help me  out !! asap!!

Cannot be sure, no. It is usually damage in the socket inner tab which is soft. Inserting the plug with usb logo upwards just once can break it.
It can also be the cable, or the battery strap, or the motherboard joints, or the battery, or it's simply so flat it will not charge, but that last one is usually is fixed by continual charge and holding down the power button for 20sec  every hour.
    Sarah.

  • PlayBook Power Charger

After three months, the Charger that came with my playbook stopped charging.  I can use a different device and it works fine, ie the usb cable to my PC.
Has anyone else had the charger fail?  What was your course of action?

Go get yourself the rapid charging desktop one. It uses the magnetic contacts instead of the fragile usb port.

  • My 2 day old Playbook not getting ON

My new playbook not getting on. it turns red for 10 seconds and blinks yellow for 15 seconds and goes off. Charged fro 12 hours continuously without any progress.

Charge it for 30 min. then on Playbook press power button and both Vol + - buttons for 10 seconds to reboot it.
try above a few times and it should turn back on if battery is depleted
I know you said charge for 12 hours, but the battery circut does not engage if battery is depleted and the above usually works.
    I have to do this on my kids playbook once a month, they never turn it off or shutdown apps;

  • Blackberry Tablet will not charge!!!

I unplugged my playbook from the charger yesterday, it died shortly there after and now it appears it will not charge?? Anything I can do or is it toast? I would love to email customer service for advice as too where I should take the tablet to have it repaired or at least some advice as to what should be done? Any ideas????

When you plug it in does the LED on the front of the device come on or change color, etc?
I'd suggest trying a different USB cable if you can, just in case the issue is related to the cable and not the device. Otherwise if it's under warranty you should take it back to where you bought it.
If it isn't under warranty and won't charge, it might be time to consider another tablet. I wouldn't recommend another Playbook though....

  • Ipod 1st generation not charging

    Hi,
I've an ipod shuffle (1st generation) that is not charging, the shuffle is seen by my system and I was able to update it 1.1.4 firmware version today( I also restored it), but when the shuffle is connected to the high-power USB port it lights with the amber light to indicate that it's charging. However it never turns green and on removing it after >4hrs there is no activity from it and the battery indicator light does not light. It is out of warranty now so I was thinking of replacing the battery myself, however the fact that it's not charging at all would give me doubts that it may not be the battery and might be related to the circuit board.
    Anybody seen this symptom before?
    Paddy

  • IPhone 3GS no longer recognized in iTunes and does not charge via wall

I upgraded my iMac to iTunes 9.2 when it came out.
My wife then upgraded her iPhone 3GS to iOS4.
Since then it is not recognized in iTunes and does not charge via the wall adapter.
I realize this topic crosses over with several ongoing discussions, but there are no 3rd party peripherals involved here.
The only major changes to our set up have been the itunes and iOS upgrades.
The battery is running down, any ideas to fix this, or other similar experiences welcome.

Went to the Apple store and they replaced the cable.

  • Hi everybody, my Macbook air mid 2012 MD 231 suddenly shut down then i can not turn it on. I heard a sound like a fuse is blown or something like that. Did any system break or burnt? I did not charge at that moment. Plz help

my Macbook air mid 2012 suddenly turn off after a strange sound (like the sound òf a fuse has blown or something like that) and I also feel a burnt smell too while i am watching a film on the internet and did not charge the laptop at this moment. The sound was from the left of it, and now just a dark screen , even I tried charging it (still has green light at the charge tool). I bought it on 13st April 2013, not often use.
I love apple and i am so sad that a new product which i seldom use could be break so easily and outstanding. It's so late in my country now but i am too disappoint about the trouble so i am writing with hope of supporting from Apple and the community.
    Please help , thank bro

You will have to take it to an Apple Store for repair.

  • Battery heating up, now it is Not Charging

For a while I have had the issue of my macbook becoming very warm when charging, or in use. And it would often say not charging, then i would have to remove and insert the charger a few times before it would work.
Now it is not charging at all, and the battery is at 0%.

If the heat is coming from the battery itself, you probably need a new one. If you're near an Apple Store or third-party service depot, they have a diagnostic they can run to determine if your battery has failed and needs to be replaced. Depending on your model, the battery may be something you can swap out, or would need to be done with a special tool.

  • Venue 8 Pro not charging?

I have not used this tablet a lot for the first couple of months I had it, then it was not used for 4 months I enjoyed it but mainly wanted it for travel. I used it for month while traveling in October it worked fine and put it up since then I got it out and put it on charge the same cord and charger that came with it and has worked in past. The white light will come on but after say ten mins goes off and the tablet is warm on the back, it has not charged if I try to reset by holding the buttons down I only get a couple flashes of Amber light. And when I plug the charger in no lights come on. Then if I wait like an hour and plug charger back in the white light comes on and again only stays on 10 mins or so and warms up the back. The warranty period is over as of 4-2, any thoughts, bad battery due to letting sit and battery going dead for so long? Tried three different cords but only have the one dell charger.

Dell supplied the wrong charging cable. The port is rectangular and the plug is trapezoidal so it can be plugged in either way, and if you plug it in wrong, you can bend or break the pin block. I handed mine to my wife to see which way she'd try to connect the cable and she immediately tried plugging it in upside down. This is a serious design flaw and Dell needs to recall them all and replace the connector. There's no way in this day and age of computing that it should be possible to plug in a connector upside down like this and then destroy the device. It's only a matter of time before every one of these Dell Venue Pro 8 units is damaged because of this issue. Dell screwed up the design and customers are paying for the mistake. This is 100% Dell's fault. They need to make it right.
