Playbook not recognized - recognized - then hung up during OS upgrade!!??!!

I followed the very long thread of comments/suggestions/etc. regarding the Playbook not being recognized by the Windows BB Desktop Manager software. I ended up turning off Bluetooth and WiFi on the PB and presto ... the PB was recognized!! That's the good part - the bad part is that DM decided my PB needed an OS upgrade (1.0.8.xx to 2.0.xx whatever). The new OS was downloaded via DM OK but the installation stalled about halfway (during sys.data.pbcd installation) and has been that way for an hour now. If I unplug or abort anything, I am afraid I will end up with an unusable PB - basically a paper weight.
Any suggestions ASAP???

As it turns out, I took a chance and pressed the power button until the restart dialog came on then I restarted the PB. It restarted without problem so I tried re-installing OS 2. It hung up again but on a different file install - a clue! I repeated the procedure and it hung up again on the file listed in my original message. However, I tried to alter the amount of time I touched the screen so it would not go into standby mode (I set it to the max of 5 minutes). This led me to touch the screen often enough to prevent it from ever going into standby mode and presto - it worked and the upgrade succeeded.
Now I have the same "connect" problems everyone else is having with the new OS but at least it installed!!
Is there any way to turn off the intrusive standby mode? I could not find any, and the max time is 5 minutes - bad when you have a 20 minute download/install to do.

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

DVD drive not recognized, then all out crash. HELP!

I was watching a DVD, and then I got an email notification which caused the DVD player to freak out and freeze. I restarted the computer to find out that the DVD drive was no longer recognized. Restarted a couple more times...no luck. Now's I've got a DVD stuck in there. So I open up the computer to make sure all the wires are connected. I push the power button AND NOTHINGG! The little power light goes on for about 5 seconds, then turns off. All I hear is a small 'click'. I tried a couple methods to fix it, and only succeeded in getting the DVD drive to spin, but no power in the computer itself. And now it's back to light/'click'/nothing. Am I beyond help here? Do I need a new computer? I'm so stressed out!
Oh and if it comes down to needing a new mac, what would everyone suggest I get besides a mini. I am thinking of a macbook pro, but the price is way high for my funds right now. I also like the imac, but my concern on that is whether or not you can upgrade it after the fact.

I took my mac in to the store to find out the logic board crashed on me. Way too expensive to fix since it's about the same cost as the mini itself. I'm just going to buy a new macbook. (I realize I'm spending more than it would to get a new logicbaord, but I want a new laptop!)

Connection with Windows 7 PC by USB - PlayBook not Recognized on File Explorer of BlackBerry Desktop

When I connect my PlayBook (OS 2.1) to my Windows 7 PC using USB cable, I do hear the familiar two-tone sound indicating connection, but the Windows File Explorer does not create a Drive Designation letter (such as Z:\). And BlackBerry Desktop Software (latest update), does not recognize it either. I have already tried re-booting the tablet and computer.

My iPod is not recognized by my car during iPod integration

When I connect my iPod to my car, it does not recognize the iPod as a media device. It recognizes several other people's iPods, iPads, and iPhones, and my home computer still recognizes it and syncs just fine. Help please!!!

If that doesn't help, I would try restoring the iPod and then resyncing your music. Try the iPod with your stereo again and see what happens.

Apple ID not recognized then recognized and prohibited from registering

I have a problem signing in to Apple Support Communities with my 'real' Apple ID. When I try to sign in with the ID (it's an email address at mac.com), I am prompted to re-enter the password. I do so and see a screen that prompts me for a Suuport Communities user name, has a checkbox for agreeing to the terms for joining, and a button to continue.
When I do that, I am told that that email address is already registered (as I thought it was) and that I can't re-register this.
(Note: I was able to join using an alternate email address (my gmail address), but I would rather consolidate all my activities with Apple under one Apple ID.
How do I get this situation resolved and enable my .mac.com AppleID to participate in Apple Support Communities?

I had the same problem. The system insisted that my Apple ID - which is, of course, also my email address - was already being used by an account!
There was no way around the problem.
Oddly - you may think - I could still Sign in to iTunes and manage my account. I could change the password, and do whatever I wished. That always worked.
But as soon as I tried to Sign in to Discussions (or Apple Support Communities as they like to call it) the system would accept my Apple ID and my password, demand I choose what they call a Username (they really mean a display name) but then immediately display an error message saying my Apple ID was already being used by an account, and I was stuffed.
It made no difference re-setting my cookies (or anything else) in my browser.
After I had taken two technical-help guys through this rigmarole I was assured:
it is a bug which is impossible (for them) to fix.
The answer, my friend, is to create another Apple ID!
It would appear that Apple use a distributed, relational database, and that the one associated with Apple Support Communities is corrupted, and they do not know how/yet want to sort it out. The corruption may well have occurred when Apple introduced Usernames? The database associated with iTunes etc appears to be OK.
And another thing, the web form employed in creating a new Apple ID is very flakey. You may have to try umpteen times before sucessfully navigating to its end. This flakeyness may also be assoicated with the damaged Apple ID database?
It is all a bit of a shambles, sorry.

Return key not recognized on Mac mini during disk repair

Our Mac mii needs to run a disk repair so we restart and hold cmd & r, then it gives options but using keyboard it doesn't recognize double tap or return key so we can't select disk repair - so in limbo - can anyone save us? Please???

Boot off your *original* Install Disk , then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

CD-ROM not recognized, then ejected

After inserting a CD-ROM into the optical drive, it just whirs a bit, stops, whirs some more--then ejects.
I've looked at the trouble-shooting doc for the slot-Loading SuperDrive. I've reset the SMC.
Nothing working. I've got some expensive software that i can't install, and now I can't return it!

Try resetting the SMC another 2x, sometimes the first try does not work. If you still have trouble try a different brand of media, if you still have trouble then go to your local office supply store, get a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit and clean the drive. If that doesn't work take the machine in for repair.

So i have an iPod touch 2nd generation, i want to update it but when i plug it in to any computer it just says that it is not recognized, then the home button is all jacked up and it doesnt resopnd right away and goes awire latter what can i do?

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program:
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Zen Xtra 40G - PC Not Recognizing Unit after Firmware and Driver upgrade

I own a Zen Xtra 40G unit and have just recently upgraded the firmware to the latest version (.20.08). I then proceeded to upgrade to the latest Windows XP driver (.26.02) and after reboot, the system no longer recognized my jukebox.
I tried my room mates, still on an older version of the firmware, and his worked without a problem.
In order to check and see if it was a one time fluke, I uninstalled both the driver and Creative MediaSource and re-installed from the original CD.
Again, my jukebox (still with the new firmware) worked flawlessly. I then upgraded Media Source to the latest version (2.03.09) and rebooted only to find my jukebox still worked perfectly.
I then downloaded and installed the latest Windows driver again (.26.02) and rebooted. My PC stopped recognizing my jukebox again but my buddie's still worked without a problem.
Is there a known flaw with the Windows driver and the latest firmware version.
Could Creative fix the problem or let me know if there is a setting I need to change in order for my PC to recognize my jukebox under the latest software and drivers?

So am I to assume from that message you think I should revert back to the old driver?
Of course Technical Support was no help. Sometimes I think they either a) don't read English very well or b) don't read the entire e-mail.

Iphone not recognized by itunes ? after OS upgrade

For the first time in a while, I'm trying to sync my phone with itunes. The last time I connected it was before the OS upgrade. I'm not sure if this has something to do with it? I tried almost everything in the troubleshooting except for uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I have a lot of play lists saved that I'm afraid to lose My computer is recognizing that the iphone is connected.

iTunes does not store any data. iTunes accesses data that is stored completely separate from the application. Deleting and re-installing iTunes does not touch your iTunes library or media folder - just like deleting and reinstalling the Word application doesn't touch any Word files. Regardless, your iTunes library should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data.

Iphone 4s not recognized by macbook or itunes after upgrading to mac ios 10.8.5 and itunes 11.1

recently upgraded my macbook to mountain lion os 10.8.5 as well as itunes 11.1. iphone 4s is currently at ios 7. Immediately after upgrading my computer i attempted to sync my iphone and itunes started bringing up error messages about my cloud storage and how my iphone had some sort of authorization issue, which is strange seeing as ive never had another apple account. next thing i know my device isnt even being read by itunes. tried unplugging it, using a different cord, reseting comp etcetc all the simple stuff and still no luck. it is not just itunes as my iphone is not even recognized as a device in my finder. i even restarted my iphone completely even knowing i wouldnt be able to get my music back on it if this attempt failed and what do you know nothing changed after the restart. so now im left with no music and photos on my phone and am completely frusterated. please help

HT4623 My iphone has hung up during OS upgrade

I had connected thru I-Tunes to upgrade and done all the appropriate steps . But afterwords the phone tells me an error occured , now I -tunes wants to restore my phone to factory specs , deleting all info ! Am I screwed here people or what ?

I got to the Accepting terms and conditions and kept agreeing but it just hung. I checked my itunes and confirmed that the update was successful/complete so then I turned my phone off and then turned it back on again. It brought me back to the sign on screen and then to the terms and conditions ...this time it let me agree to them and finish the sign-in process. Good Luck
