Playbook OS 2.0.0.7971, Android Player can't see WiFi

Hello Everybody,
Yesterday I got my Playbook. During setup I got updated to OS 2.0.0.7971. Visited Playbook appstore and installed Wattpad (which apparently is an android app that runs on the integrated Android Player (not available as a separate app anymore)). Everything works all right except that it cannot see my WiFi connection and hence, cannot do anything useful. I also sideloaded Kindle, Pulse reader, and some other apps that run on the Android Player. NONE of them can access the internet (can't see the WiFi). As a result, I cannot even register my Kindle app.
Anybody having similar issues on the OS 2.0.0.7971? I think my Android Player version is 2.0.0.56 (that is what it shows at the bar below). Please suggest what I should do to fix these. Without the Kindle app, the whole Playbook thing kinda becomes pointless to me :-(

Since we upgraded the software, nothing but trouble. Can't see wireless network, can't connect manually to the computer (to copy files off), can't connect to wireless manually. Totally useless.
Can ANYBODY help?

After install of 2.0 Playbook can't see WiFi and Bridge Apps won't execute

Last weekend I finally bit the bullet and installed 2.0. I installed over WiFi but after the install the Playbook could no longer detect my D-link router (DIR-825). My Bold 9700 WiFi connection is fine. Also, I updated the Bridge software on my phone and the Playbook recognizes the connection but none of the Bridge Apps activate when I touch their respective icons. I've rebooted (3 finger) several times to no avail. I also tried manually connecting to the WiFi but without success. There also seems to be considerable battery drain compared to the 1.0 release despite keeping the Playbook in standby. I assume I'll have to re-install 2.0 and would appreciate any other suggestions as well as any guidelines on re-installing to ensure success and to avoid loss of apps and data. I did a full backup prior to the 2.0 install and will do another data backup prior to reinstalling.

My MagicBox Imp media player can't see my shared folders

I have a wireless MagicBox Imp internet radio and media player. The radio works fine but I've never succeeded in getting it to find my iTunes folder (or any other folders) although it can see my computer. File sharing is turned on, windows sharing is also on and I'm pretty sure I've followed other instructions – it says in Directory Access to enable SMB/CIFS, then click 'configure' then enter a workgroup name (I've entered 'workgroup' as I've read that is the default but I don't know if I'm supposed to put something else instead). That's about the extent of the help for Mac in their manual (incidentally, MagicBox appear to have gone out of business so I can't contact them for help). iTunes prefs is set to share library.
I've always been a bit unsure about networks so don't know enough to try other things. Am I missing something obvious? I've also got it to look for our Mac Mini running OS X 10.5 but it won't see that one at all! We use Airport Extreme.

Hi BDAqua, apologies for not replying sooner. Re your 'techreviews' link, I'm glad it's not just me being dense!
I finally managed to get hold of tech support at MagicBox who have said that due to a quirk with Macs, the best thing is to... "make a separate account with a name such as 'music' that has access to your files, once this is set up restart the computer and log on with your normal user name then try accessing from the IMP." I've done this but still no joy.
The thing that confounds me is that in the set-up instructions it says to enable SMB/CIFS in Directory Access, click configure and enter a workgroup name and click apply. I haven't a clue what the workgroup name is (where will I find this info?) but have put in 'workgroup' as I have read that this is default. 'Apply' is greyed out when I do it so I assume it hasn't changed. In their 'troubleshooting' section it says " The PC with the media content may not have the same workgroup as the server managing the network. The easiest solution is to change the PC workgroup name to the same as that being supported by the server". I'm not sure what this means.
To make things more difficult, I've noticed that sometimes when I 'scan for PCs' on the MagicBox, sometimes it doesn't even find my Mac at all, even though Airport shows full strength.
I'm going to pursue this with their support department but I suspect that they don't know much about Macs. However, if you have any further suggestions, I'd really appreciate your help. Many thanks.

Android player for playbook

Has anyone managed to get the android player for playbook?

You don't see the Android player until you open an application that uses it. When you open an Android application it will show a bar at the bottom with an arrow on the lower left corner. That's how you know you're in the Android player.

Does anyoneknow when the netflix app for Playbook will be available or when the android player will be available?

Probably end of 2015. RIM Executives have no clue, with the holidays coming up how could the not have at least some of the features of the 2.0 upgrade available. Whats up with these dudes?

Android player in BB 10.3.1

Hello ppl,
I just updated my Q5 to BB 10.3.1 and I see 'Android Player' using a considerable amount of CPU and battery.(Not that its causing an alarming issue in my phone). Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me as to what this is actually doing ? I see this only after 10.3.1 update. Why does it always run in the background?

I'll add some more questions for you bb guys to answer... if it's politically correct for you to answer.
1. Why BBVE shows my OS is version 10.3.1.2243 whereas in the settings update page I see 10.3.1.1565?
2. Do we have to cope with this Android Player parasite process which uses roughly 90M of RAM (including its companion Android Media App)?
The damned service wakes up periodically and even shows network activity!?
WHAT the heck is it doing?
Most of us, hardcore and loyal BB10 users, bought a BB10 device because runs on QNX... absolutely convinced of its superiority.
We bought a rather expensive device, far more expensive in some countries than any android device... but we were more than happy to pay the difference because we trusted Blackberry and we knew, thanks to its phone running an OS head and shoulders ahead of the competition, although very jung, Blackberry was able to protect us!
Well it looks like you don't even recognize the superiority of BB10 and you deliberately mess up your masterpiece
OS by preloading and activating the damned android runtime by DEFAULT?!
Is this done on purpose to please somebody? ... NSA? governments? google? amazon?

Suppose we just wanted to stick with native BB10 apps because we aren't missing any wonderful android fart app, WHY in the world should we be forced by Blackberry to have this parasite service running on top of our up to now tusted and beloved BB10/QNX powered phone?

While complaining about the activity of this parasite service, somebody correctly pointed out that I might be having some android ported app installed which was causing traffic?!
That was a really interesting comment, because it implicitely states that we should expect this kind of stealth activities from an android application (WOW effect).
Well this should scare anybody knowing that by installing android apps you also grant them permissions to access all of your personal data by default?! No chance to modify their permissions
My dears: this may be acceptable for somebody who CHOOSES to shoot himself on its nuts by installing that **bleep**, not for somebody who does not give a sh.t about android data mining proxying and its well known "security" policies (everybody knows how secure these devices proved to be over the past decade)

I never installed android ports, but it could be that an old native bb10 app had gone through an upgrade cycle and now depends on the damned android runtime?
I checked all apps permissions and I found a couple of apps that didn't give me the option to modify them,
so I got rid of these immediately and rebooted my phone hoping the android player was possibly gone or Idle at least. Well no. The **bleep** was still running...
Then, with my big surprise I also found that another 2 apps, Games and Amazon app store are also preventing me from changing permissions, which means they're depending on the android runtime... but I can't remove them!!
Blackberry, could you please make these useless apps and related parasite services removable or at least killable alltogether for us, the nostalgic BB10 purists?
We don't believe 80% of the users (although is a bigger market share than BB10 users) are in a position to fully understand what they will face in the coming 3-5 years from now. That's the result of a collective hypnosis syndrome.
We do believe that Blackberry does not have to inject dependencies on any android service in order to stay AGNOSTIC!!!! Right Mr Chen?
Well: hope you realize that the Blackberry BB10 power is really about CHOICE ... not in forcing people that trust you to be frustrated the same way android users are and blindly accept that they have to change their phone at every new release of their beloved OS.

Android player locking get up more, now

Not sure what the changes were to the Android player, but it is not an improvement from my point of view.
I really only use two Android apps, Overdrive and Word Hero (addictive). Previously, the player would lock up eventually but nwo it locks up every time.even I run one of these Apps. Not a plus, for me.
But, I am still happier with the update as my browser has not crashed once since.
So, a trademark off.

Just discovered something, by accident. Usually, when I get a lockup, I reboot. Today, I decided to do other things instead and boot later. A few minutes ago, I started up a new app, which I had not tried. It happens to be Android and away it went!
It appears that, if you leave everything alone, for a while, the OS cleans it up. Not sure if this will be consistent, but...........

Android Player

Hello,
Since several weeks my Android player doesn't work any more. Android ports are crashing while the loader is loading the app. Furthermore, the apps are not appearing in applicatin rights settings menu.
Currently i have 10.1.0.273. But the described problem occured before i updated to that version.

A lot of side loaded apps do not work! If it has been giving you problems before you updated your Z10,then it just doesn't work sorry to say not all android apps work!

It was updated and i can't see the web page. It is only a white page. Android for tablet

I was able to see a webpage which starts with https. However the browser was updated and 1 can't see the web page anymore. I can see it in chrome but I need Firefox due to the plug ins.

I installed FLASH PLAYER and it doesn´t work. Everything started when Firefox was installed automatically. Does anybody knows how to install a complement in google chrome for android (it is a scanned document) since i could not open the web page in firefox or dolphin, I used chrome but now I cannot see the content. I already installed PDF reader. I do not know how to enable the plug in. I read that I should go to
chrome://plugins but this page doesn´t not exist.
How can I enable it in a tablet android?

Playbook can't see my files

I had a weird pop up with a long message warning last night when opening the e-mail client. I tried opening several times and I would always receive that message (something related with a PIM number).
After a few tries, I restarted the PB. the message wen't away, but my interface was restored to the initial state (all my icon organization was gone). I made a new organization and thought everything was fine.
Now, I am noticing the PB can't see my files. they were not deleted, I still can see them through my computer. But the music player says it has 0 songs, the file manager can't see anyfiles, the "pictures" app can't see all the pictures I took and so on.
Can somebody help me?

I didn't hear about this. But I trust in Security Wipe magic. So make a back up of all required content from your PlayBook and do the Security Wipe. After this you may reinstall OS if you want to. To do this just connect powered off PlayBook to PC with launched BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Someone else may give you other tip.

thank you for the help. I should have said I had a iphone 3. A friend has the same phone and she showed me how she can see what web pages are open when she double taps the home button. Mine is set to bring up favourites when I double tap (chosen from settings>general>home button).. BUT my choices are only HOME; SEARCH; PHONE FAVORITES; CAMERA or IPOD. I changed my choice to HOME but that just defeats the purpose as when I am at the home page and double tap nothing happens. Am I making sense?

Flash player 11.2.202.229 can´t see videos in youtube

I installed the latest version of flash player for Chrome and I can´t see any video in youtube, It always worked perfectly and now It doesn't and i don't know why

I'm recording video on JVC HD camera.Every 13:54 it starts a new file.I have one file that won't play.I get this message:Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized. Only happens this one file.Ideas?

I can't open one Quick Time movie file. It says: Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized. Only happens on this one file. All the others of a two hour shoot are fine.
Any ideas what's happened and is there some way to open that file and retrieve what's on it?

Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.
