Playbook OS 2.0 queries & concern

Hi there!
I am planning to buy a tablet to use the internet, check apps for news/weather/shopping/restos, play the latest games, Youtube, make notes, watch my movies whilst on my holiday.
I'm looking at the Playbook and with the new 2.0 OS is it worth it? I have some serious queries & concerns if the Playbook is worth the plunge and worth the money.
1. Can it send any files via bluetooth to any bluetooth-enabled device?
2. Does it wake-up/start-up really quick like the iPad or those new Android 4.0 tablets?
3. Can it play on its own .avi & .mkv files without the use of an app?
4. Can it auto-connect to a neafby wifi if available?
5. Can i now access/download a handful of Android apps like what i have heard? If yes is this via the App World or as a different folder or "main" app?
6. How many hours can it do if with just "minimal" use? (surfung the net, downloading an app whilst watching a movie or playing games)
7. Can it do multitasking like the iPad or an Android 4.0 tablet?
8. Can one easily access running apps and easily cancle/stop them?
9. Is there a notification bar (like Android) to access common settings, etc.
I believe these questions are really important in helping me decide what tab to choose.
Shall i stick to the tried-and-tested Android 4/4.1 tablet like the Nexus 7 et al or can the Playbook do all those ones i mentioned above?
Please advice.

gino, you might do well to search the forums here for some answers.
1.  Somewhat a vague question for "any", but you can find out if the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet supports a specific Bluetooth enabled device, check the information available for the Bluetooth enabled device to see what profiles it uses. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet supports the following profiles.  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB26506
2. From "off", it is not quick, approx 2-3 mins. From on Standby, it is instant on swiping your finger from bottom to top bezel. I rarely every turn mine off.
3. Find here:  Article ID: KB26518 Media types that are supported on the BlackBerry PlayBook
4. Yes, can connect via WiFi. Also via Bluetooth tether to your BlackBerry IF it has a signal, and thirdly using the BlackBerry Bridge connection.
5. Some via AppWorld, some via sideloading. According to the app.
6. MY experience, watching a movie with solid use, 4-5 hours. Games, music etc., longer.
7. iPad can't truly multitask. The Playbook does, absolutely.
8. Yes. Instantly.
9. Yes. The notification are in the upper left corner, Options/Settings in the upper right.
Good luck.

  • Queries concerning network unlock codes and restri...

Thx for the sticky on unlock codes. We perfctly understand that unlock code capability is an agreement between nokia and the operator and that you can not provide them here. There should be no requests for unlock codes here.
However you assertion that unlocking a phone by other then the operator is 'illegal' is simply not true (certainly in the UK and US).
Once you have purchased the phone, it is you property (subject to minimum contract term, if purchased under contract) and you can smash it will a hammer if you so please. Unlocking the phone is perfectly legitimate.
The only illegal activity associated with mobile phone modification in Europe is changing the IMEI number, which has nothing to do with the unlocking code. Furthermore it is debatable whether the act of changing the IMEI code is illegal, it only becomes illegal if an attempt is made to connect to the network (effectively making it useless in any event).
    Just to clarify your error.

So, it's likely not a Rogers-branded device and that's why the unlock is not working, even though it's locked to Rogers.
When it's unlocked it will say network unlocked.
    I would suggest this:

  • PLAYBOOK 64gb and Android

I am thinking of buying the 64gb Playbook currently on sale from PCWORLD in the Uk.
Can anyone advise if this model will run Android apps or if it can easily be upgraded to the
BB software that does allow this?
    Thanks
    Steve

All Playbook models are the same. They run same software. Playbook can not directly run android apps. They need to be rebuilded by developers or someone else. It was possible to root older firmwares and some users managed to install Android Store (Google Play) on their PlayBooks, but as I am concerned now it is not possible.
So this is only a software limitation, perhaps there is a legal issue to allow android apps run on BlackBerry without modification

  • CONTROL_NOT_FOUND dumps in VT02N

    Hello,
We have been experiencing a recurring dump in VT02N with error 'CONTROL_NOT_FOUND'. In the system log, the error details read as follows:
<b>The termination occurred in the ABAP program "SAPLSPO5" in "%_CTL_OUTPUT"
The main program was "SAPMV56A ".
The termination occurred in line 30 of the source code of the (Include) program "<SYSINI>" of the source code of program "<SYSINI>" (when calling the editor 300).</b>
This is the code extract from program SAPMSSYD where the dump supposedly occurred:
    <b>000270 * Nach DCO
    000280 module %_CTL_OUTPUT output.
000290 perform %_CTL_OUTPUT in program SAPMSSYD using SY-REPID if found
    > endmodule.</b>
The activities in VT02N when these dumps happened are detailed below:
    <b>Enter shipment #-execute
    Uncheck planning
    Look for delivery #
    Minus out delivery#
Save (when saving it takes you back to the beginning of vt02)
    Enter
Check planning (this is where it sometimes will not check and it will freeze and will take us to an error message)</b>
What confuses us is this error <b>does not</b> always happen when the process above is done. Until now, we are unable to replicate the dump at will, though it still happens frequently. And we still cannot identify what causes them.
Could someone help us figure out why this is error is happening?
Thanks a lot for you help.
    Best Regards,
    Gladys

Have you looked for OSS notes on this topic?
Also, have you checked if the SAP GUI is the latest on the machine that is getting the error? It should be 6.4 patch lvl 19.
To isolate the problem, take one user that is getting the error, and upgrade the GUI. Then ask him to re-try for a while to see if it happens.
I've found this on the OSS:
    OSS NOTE 794329
    Symptom
You got an exception 'invalid dynpro processor state' and an abap dump with CONTROL_NOT_FOUND. In the frontend trace file with the name like sapfewdll_xx_xxxx_xx_xxxx_xxx.trc and sapfewdll_xx_xxxx_xx_xxxx_xxx.err.trc you can find the line:
    Error: wrong modal number:  1
    Other terms
Focus, error "wrong modal number:  1"
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Program error.
The focus was set to a disabled modal popup because of the wrong "last focus"
    Solution
A solution is provided in patch level [7] of SAP GUI for Windows [640] and patch level [52] of SAP GUI for Windows [620]
Install this patch or a newer patch. Refer to notes 563161 and 330793 for information on storing and downloading patches. For queries concerning the installation of patches, see note 361222 (for SAP GUI 4.6D or lower) or note 535308 (for SAP GUI 6.20 or higher).
    Good luck!

  • SAP PI conceptual best practice for synchronous scenarios

    Hi,
<br /><br />Apologies for the length of this post but I'm sure this is an area most of you have thought about in your journey with SAP PI.
<br /><br />We have recently upgraded our SAP PI system from 7.0 to 7.1 and I'd like to document  best practice guidelines for our internal development team to follow.
I'd be grateful for any feedback related to my thoughts below which may help to consolidate my knowledge to date.
<br /><br />Prior to the upgrade we have implemented a number of synchronous and asynchronous scenarios using SAP PI as the hub at runtime using the Integration Directory configuration.
No interfaces to date are exposes directly from our backend systems using transaction SOAMANAGER.
<br /><br />Our asynchronous scenarios operate through the SAP PI hub at runtime which builds in resilience and harnesses the benefits of the queue-based approach.
<br /><br />My queries relate to the implementation of synchronous scenarios where there is no mapping or routing requirement.  Perhaps it's best that I outline my experience/thoughts on the 3 options and summarise my queries/concerns that people may be able to advise upon afterwards.
<br /><br />1) Use SAP PI Integration Directory.  I appreciate going through SAP PI at runtime is not necessary and adds latency to the process but the monitoring capability in transaction SXMB_MONI provide full access for audit purposes and we have implemented alerting running hourly so all process errors are raised and we handle accordingly.  In our SAP PI Production system we have a full record of sync messages recorded while these don't show in the backend system as we don't have propogation turned on.  When we first looked at this, the reduction in speed seemed to be outweighed by the quality of the monitoring/alerting given none of the processes are particularly intensive and don't require instant responses.  We have some inbound interfaces called by two sender systems so we have the overhead of maintaing the Integration Repository/Directory design/configuration twice for these systems but the nice thing is SXMB_MONI shows which system sent the message.  Extra work but seemingly for improved visibility of the process.  I'm not suggesting this is the correct long term approach but states where we are currently.
<br /><br />2) Use the Advanced Adapter Engine.  I've heard mixed reviews about this functionaslity, there areh obvious improvements in speed by avoiding the ABAP stack on the SAP PI server at runtime, but some people have complained about the lack of SXMB_MONI support.  I don't know if this is still the case as we're at SAP PI 7.1 EHP1 but I plan to test and evaluate once Basis have set up the pre-requisite RFC etc.
<br /><br />3) Use the backend system's SOAP runtime and SOAMANAGER.  Using this option I can still model inbound interfaces in SAP PI but expose these using transaction SOAMANAGER in the backend ABAP system.  [I would have tested out the direct P2P connection option but our backend systems are still at Netweaver 7.0 and this option is not supported until 7.1 so that's out for now.]  The clear benefits of exposing the service directly from the backend system is obviously performance which in some of our planned processes would be desirable.  My understanding is that the logging/tracing options in SOAMANAGER have to be switched on while you investigate so there is no automatic recording of interface detail for retrospective review.
    <br /><br />Queries:
<br /><br />I have the feeling that there is no clear cut answer to which of the options you select from above but the decision should be based upon the requirements.
<br /><br />I'm curious to understand SAPs intention with these options  -
<br /><br />- For synchronous scenarios is it assumed that the client should always handle errors therefore the lack of monitoring should be less of a concern and option 3 desirable when no mapping/routing is required?
<br /><br />- Not only does option 3 offer the best performance, but the generated WSDL is ready once built for any further system to implement thereby offering the maximum benefit of SOA, therefore should we always use option 3 whenever possible?
<br /><br />- Is it intended that the AAE runtime should be used when available but only for asynchronous scenarios or those requiring SAP PI functionality like mapping/routing otherwise customers should use option 3?  I accept there are some areas of functionality not yet supported with the AAE so that would be another factor.
<br /><br />Thanks for any advice, it is much appreciated.
    <br /><br />Alan

    Hi Aaron,
I was hoping for a better more concrete answer to my questions.
I've had discussion with a number of experienced SAP developers and read many articles.
There is no definitive paper that sets out the best approach here but I have gleaned the following key points:
    - Make interfaces asynchronous whenever possible to reduce system dependencies and improve the user experience (e.g. by eliminating wait times when they are not essential, such as by sending them an email with confirmation details rather than waiting for the server to respond)
    - It is the responsibility of the client to handle errors in synchronous scenarios hence monitoring lost through P-P services compared to the details information in transaction SXMB_MONI for PI services is not such a big issue.  You can always turn on monitoring in SOAMANAGER to trace errors if need be.
    - Choice of integration technique varies considerably by release level (for PI and Netweaver) so system landscape will be a significant factor.  For example, we have some systems on Netweaver 7.0 and other on 7.1.  As you need 7.1 for direction connection PI services we'd rather wait until all systems are at the higher level than have mixed usage in our landscape - it is already complex enough.
    - We've not tried the AAE option in a Production scenarios yet but this is only really important for high volume interfaces, something that is not a concern at the moment.  Obviously cumulative performance may be an issue in time so we plan to start looking at AAE soon.
Hope these comments may be useful.

  • Tracking of Inventory in Marble Industry

    Dear Colleagues,
We have a division that produces Marbles Slabs & tiles mostly using MTS scenario.
There are special MTO Orders as well.
The production process is to get a marble block from the mine (quarry) and to use it for producing slabs / tiles.
    Marble Block
This is a semi finished material.
Marble blocks are generally classified into 4 different types u2013 1. Desert Bronze Marble Blocks 2. Silver Marble Blocks 3. Rosa Marble Blocks 4. Desert Gold Marble Blocks
Each marble block has a different Size (M3) and Weight (TON).
Marble blocks are tracked in M3.
    Slabs / Stripes / Tiles
    This is a finished product.
    Slabs / Stripes / Tiles
are produced and classified into 4 types (A / B / C / D) and the price depends on the classification.
Slabs / Stripes / Tiles are measured in M2.
For each slab the size varies.
At present, in factory, inventory is tracked as below:-
    Marble Blocks:-
Inventory is tracked in m3 and also in pieces.
Each block is given a block #.
    e.g. Q1-123 i.e. block from Quarry 1 and block # is 123.
    Slabs
Inventory is tracked in m2 and also in pieces.
Each slab is given as slab#.
    e.g. Q1-123-12 i.e. slab from block Q1-123 and slab # is 12.
    Stripes
Inventory is tracked in m2 and also in pieces.
Each stripe is given an identification number as below:-
    e.g. Q1-123-12 i.e. slab from block Q1-123 and slab # is 12.
This is done for the below purpose:-
    1.     Production manager knows the yield of slabs / stripes from a particular block.
    2.     Production manager knows the yield of tiles from a particular slab / stripe.
    3.     In the end, he can then know what is the yield for a day / period / machine / operation.
As I understand, if we need to model this in SAP, I need to use u201CBatch managementu201D functionality.
However, I have a below queries / concerns:-
    1.     may I know if this is the best practice followed in the industry?
    2.     no of batches would be very high and entering the batch details for every block / slab / stripe would be a cumbersome work. Is there any better way fo achieving this?
Please let me know your views.
    Best Regards,
    ROI_SAP.

    As stated in your posting:
    >We want to track all inventory transfer transaction which are done from u201CTRC Warehouseu201D to u201CRestore Warehouseu201D and whether for the each inventory(from u201CTRC Warehouseu201D to u201CRestore Warehouseu201D ) transfer we have booked corresponding return entry (from Restore Warehouseu201D to u201CTRC Warehouseu201D).
I do believe you only need the report that without match.  It means what you are looking for would be blank for all the last 3 fields.  Is that what you need?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle BPEL SOA - CUBE_SCOPE/DOCUMENT dehydration store contents

I have some queries concerning what bpel variables and values will be stored to Dehydration store in case oracle bpel. Consider I have an process "P1" with two scopes: an outer scope "s1" with variables "s1a,s1b,s1c" and within this s1 scope there is a nested inner scope "s2" with variables "s2a,s2b,s2c". When the process instance ends or if there is a wait activity at the end of outer scope s1, then the process state will be moved to dehydration store.
My question here is would oracle soa server store all the variables of both scopes s1 and s2 to dehydration store or since s2 scope is like a local loop within s1, would oracle only persist variables and values of processes of the outer scope s1 alone?
The reason why i ask is that the inner scope S2 in my process case handles a very huge xml of size more than 20 MB and i do not want this to be dehydrated to datastore at the end of process execution as this will fill up the soa table space quickly.

Create a full user export of the ORABPEL/ORAESB/ORAWSM users and load them into your new database.
Change the datasource in the SOA Application Server to your new database.

  • Macbook Pro HELP I think an autodownload gave me a nasty virus!!!

Hi, Sorry I don't know how this group works, I am on my friend's PC laptop because this evening I clicked online on my MacBook Pro and I got a dialog box telling me there are updates available. So since I was going to eat dinner anyways I decided to click on ok. When I looked at my Macbook Pro after dinner there was a dialog box saying something about this being a 'Firmware Update for Macbook Pros with the Intel Processor' which mine is. It said I should click on 'shut down' and then after the Macbook Pro shuts down I should push and hold down the power button to turn the MacBook Pro back on. I did this and there was a click sound and the lit up screen with an apple icon in the center and a line moving left to right disappeared and the screen went black. Now my beloved Macbook Pro won't even turn on. HELP! Is it destroyed or how can I get it working again? Why are 'Auto Updates' allowed when they can screw people so badly?

There is a legitimate firmware update for the MacBook Pro family of products, and only legitimate firmware and software updates are available through the Apple Software Update mechanism. Read this article for more information about the update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate12.html
Instructions similar to this should have appeared on your MacBook prior to execution of the firmware update. If you interrupted it, you'll have to perform it again, though it's not clear from what you describe that you interrupted it or that it otherwise failed.
Was it running on battery power or plugged into your power adapter when this occurred? Have you subsequently been unable to restart it if it is plugged into your adapter? Have you repeatedly pressed the F2 key to insure that the display is not completely dimmed?
Have you reset the System Management Controller—equivalent to Power Management Unit in earlier, non-intel machines—in an effort to correct this issue? Instructions for your machine can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
You should also search for answers, browse and post queries concerning issues like this in the MacBook Pro forum, located here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=190
You might want to look in the Power and Batteries on a MacBook Pro forum, or the Using your MacBook Pro subcategories.
This is the iSync forum, an area for discussing issues related to the synchronization of contacts, calendaring and task data with the Address Book, iCal, mobile handsets and Palm devices using iSync.
If you are reasonably close to an Apple Store, Apple authorized dealer or service provider or other Apple support center, you might consider taking the machine to them to address the issue. You can locate and Apple service operation here:

  • Need help for J2ME WTK, Error 41

Hi, thanks for taking time to reply my queries concerning the J2ME Wireless Toolkit.
    1. While trying to install a MIDLet using the command line Java Application Manager, I encounter an error that read
"** Error installing suite (41): A required attribute is missing".
What does this error mean?? I already checked that all the required attributes for a MIDLet is in the .jad file. I have also configured my http server (which runs locally) to recognize .jad and .jar.
Here is how I called the install feature:
    emulator -Xjam:install=http://127.0.0.1/MyFile.jad.
Another note: When I tried to install the MIDLets that came with the J2MEWTK, the installation is successful.
    2. Is there any way to call the JAM to automate installation of a .JAD file while executing a MIDLet in the emulator? For example, I am running MIDLet A.jar and would like to let the user select a file to install within the MIDLet. Then MIDLet A.jar would automatically install this MIDLet using the JAM. Is this possible?
    Please help and thanks again!

I have the same problem, did you find any solution?

  • Backing Up and Restoring the PlayBook

Ok, I've been playing around with Backing Up, Wiping, then Restoring the PlayBook and things don't seem to be functioning as smoothly as I would assume they should. My primary concern is that the data from the Contacts and Calendar programs are not getting restored and the setup information for any Email Accounts is also lost. The data from two third party Apps: Groovy Notes and The Vault is being restored no problem.
ADDED NOTE: The Stock Wallpapers and HD Video Demo have also gone missing.
    THE PARTICULARS:
    - On a Windows 7 Pro box running BlackBerry Desktop 7.1
    - 64 GB Wifi PlayBook running OS 2.0.1.668
    - Options set to FULL BACKUP (nothing else)
    - using a USB cable and connection
Other behavior that might, or might not be related:
    - I did a switch device from 64 GB Wifi to 4G LTE model and the same data was missing
    - the BB Desktop 7.1 software can't seem to accommodate more then one PlayBook at a time, meaning that if I Sync or backup one tablet, then attaching the other tablet via the USB cable will cause the device listing of the previous tablet to disappear. It's like it won't allow me to have more then one tablet as a listed device.
    Thanks, Rob
My favourite show: BB10, The Next Generation.

"nothing changed" as in it didn't restore the deleted entries?
What I'm thinking is that the desktop software is designed more for BB phones and that there is such a difference in the Contacts and Calendar apps from the phone to the PlayBook (the PlayBooks apps being much more complex and interconnected) that the Desktop isn't equipped to properly backup the PlayBook, so it doesn't. If this is the case, then they should:
    1) let people know, because many may think they have a nice safe backup of what could potentially be a very large and valuable chunk of data, when they actually don't.
    2) Get working on an update of their Desktop software that properly handles the PlayBook - which they probably are, I would hope.
But all of this is just conjecture on my part, since nobody has responded to my query yet, other then you that is.
