Playbook Updates

Just bought a new Playbook 16GB a few days ago, and on opening it up and switching it on, part of the initial set-up process has me updating it. I've been stuck on the update process for the past few hours, and have not been able to complete the setup process since i openen the box up today. I've tried the wi-fi connection, and the desktop manager, both of which have had the same negative results. Everytime the update cancels, and I'm left with the playbook restarting itself. Please help!

It sounds like you might have a bad wireless or internet connection too.
Can you try a different WiFi source?
And as you asked in the other thread... when connected to the Desktop Software, do a power cycle and see if that recognizes it as a bricked device, and reloads the OS fresh.

I think those pics are gone. Sorry we cant help more getting them back. I would get a box account to sync to cloud so this cant happen again.
I suspect playbook was not on fully when connected to PC and it suggested an update and showed a warning that it will erase all data that you might have over looked.

  • Problems after playbook update

    Hello blackberry users,
    I installed the new upgrade for the playbook last week and since then I have been running into the same problems;
    - extreme lag when playing games or surfing the web
    - playbook freezing on games/web/home screen
    - "Browser" not loading
    - screen going a light black color with red light on
     - battery life has gone down the drain
Has anyone else been getting problems like this or similar since the update?
    Help?!?

Hello users, my issues with the Playbook upgraded are: battery life going to the drain, browser shutdown in some web sites, games and other apps shutdown suddenly and goes to home screen and TOTAL lack of multimedia features. In the previous OS you have the section where you used to watch your pictures, videos, play your music with an ok mp3 player and create playlists, random playback and so on, now that doesn't exists, just a cold archive browser. I'm a big fan of BB but please, don't insult my in intelligence.

  • PlayBook Updated To Version 2.0.1.358 and all pictures and videos gone

I updated to 2.0.1.358 when I connected my playbook to my computer. It offered the update when I connected it to download my pictures. It took about 1 hours to complete. When completed, the playbook was wiped.  Any way to get my files back from the playbook.  My big mistake not to backup 1st.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am going to guess you were on desktop manager 6. The so called update feature was included to reload the OS if the playbook was not booted up yet and there was no warning in it. I wiped my own as well before. There is no way to ge the files back. I now use wifi file sharing or an online backup such as box or drop box to sync pics because of this.

  • Latest blackberry playbook update installed an app that is not listed in My World

The newest update for the blackberry playbook was prompted to be installed.
    I updated my playbook.
    It powered off and restarted.
Now there is an app called Zinio listed on my 'desktop'.
I did not install this app. EVER.
So i figured i could 'uninstall' the app by going to 'my world' under the apps icon.
But it is NOT listed in My Apps.
How do i remove? Why is it there?
    Solved!

it is a OS feature app, if you dont want it, press on teh icon for a few seconds till it pulses, then click on delete aka trashcan to remove it

  • Problems with latest playbook update

I use my playbook a lot and I mean a lot so you can see how frustrating this is for me I just recently updated my playbook to 2.0.1.668 and my power button will only turn my playbook off not on so I have to keep it plugged in so I can just touch the screen but than that takes the traveling out off the playbook and when I reset it it just updates again and before it updates again it works fine
    signed,
                please help

Thanks for this!  I did manage to update the software but I still have a BIG problem.  I don't know if it stems from the new BB software or the updated device manager software.  When I connect the Playbook to my PC, it acknowledges that it is connected but when I start the device manager application, it tells me there's a problem connecting to the PB.  I also cannot connect by Bluetooth.  I have spent the whole day on this!  I know I did everything right with the settings etc.  Help!  I want to transfer some PDFs from my PC to the PB.  The PB does not appear either in the list of devices connected to the computer.  Does anybody know what the problem is?

  • New PlayBook update 2.0.0.7971 not working properly

The new update on blackberry PlayBook is not working properly.  The video store and podcasts are erroneously restricted to Puerto Rico, a US territory.  Please do something ASAP.

    Hi,
This is defenitely strange - if you click on the "Login" link, you should be prompted for the plain vanilla SSO Username & Password. I have faced this problem infrequently only in Netscape 7.1.
Did you try clearing the Browser Cache ? Which is the browser you are using ?

    Hi brysonguptill,
You're right there is no fix for the issue. Please check the below KB article and forums post for knowing more on the issue -
KB30341 "Camera Error: The camera is in use. Close any other instances of the camera and try again" is displayed when attempting to use the camera after upgrading to Tablet OS 2.0

  • Playbook Update Problem

    Hey guys.
I connected my Playbook to PC, I downloaded Blackberry Desktop Manager 7.0, and when it saw my tab, it said "It has to be upgraded" or something else and I chose the option that make my tab upgrade. It has been an hour and still upgrading my tab. So here's my questions :
    1) Does it take so long or it's just me?
    2) If I cancel the progress, will it be harmful for my tab?

    melodicaal wrote:

    1) Yes, it can take an hour or two, according to the speed of your internet connection, etc., and factors such as that.
    2) Yes, disconnecting before it completes could 'brick' the device, however you can recover from that by following 'debricking' procedures.
You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
    1. Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    2. After the backup is finished, unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
    3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
    4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
    5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
    6. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

  • Lack of Playbook Updates

When is the new operating system being released already!  I purchased my playbook on the 1st date of sale and am thoroughly disgusted with the lack of information. It was an remains an incomplete product for which I paid full retain price. It seems that RIM isn't supportimg its products or its customers. When my family's four blackberrys are up for replacement, each passing day looks more and more like there's an apple product in the future.  I'm afraid to choose another blackberry product. Will it be incomplete too?
Hey RIM, how about a little information to give me piece of mind? Enough of the rumors. Competitors are burying you as you focus on releasing games instead of a full featured product (Spell check anyone?)

Totally agree. Several posters here have the OS2 dev beta and are seeing improvements. There is no official word on the release. We were hoping at dev con but only leaks.

  • UK Playbook 3G OS update ?

I find myself in the irritating position of having a new 3G Playbook, which I am unable to use. I've done a backup from my existing Playbook, and now want to restore my data to the new 3G one - fairly simple stuff.
Except I can't, because my current Playbook is running 2.1.0.1088, and the 3G has 2.0.1.688.
I have a mass of data on my current Playbook  - multiple VPN configs for different clients, for example - and re-entering all of that is not an option?
This is the UK version, not the LTE one sold in Canada and the States - it's bought from RIM via one of two resellers (Misco was the one I used) and is not supplied from a carrier, and therefore there should be no carrier release issues like with the LTE models - the OS updates should be coming direct from RIM.
DM says that there are no OS updates for it. How can I get an OS update for the 3G?
Until I can get my data on it, the thing's basically just a paperweight :-(

    Read pages 13 and 14
You can move your data by drag n drop from Playbook 1 to PC then to Playbook 2 usinng this method.  (But not vpn settings)

  • Updateproblem playbook 3G

    Hi to all,
i got my playbook auf fest weeks ago. Now i habe noticed that my OS Version is old (2.0.1.688).
Usually the playbook update shoul come automatically, nur there is no upadte signalisiert on my screen. I searched for update via setting and via Desktop Manager, no sucsess.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks Gerald

If your 3g playbook comes with a contracted data plan specifically with and for Playbook then you need to complain to your data plan provider. Only they will release the update.
If your playbook is unlocked and you simply inserted a 3g SIM then current thought is you will never get another update, so complain to Blackberry and/or whoever sold it to you.

  • Charging Playbook with Desktop Charger

Ever since the upgrade to 2.1, I haven't been able to charge my Playbook  using the desktop charger. I can use the cord that came with the Playbook; but that doesn't help at night when I usually have the device on the charger and use the Playbook as an alarm clock. When I put it on the dock , the charging symbol comes on; but it actually starts to drain the battery. Ideas???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Rapid charger should have no effect to any OS update as its run direct from your home wall socket plug but however if its the other type of desktop charger that runs from USB as opposed to the small 3 pin dock port on the rapid charger then yes you will have this problem as a lot of us have since the update as RIM has changed the charge allowence through USB to lower the amount taken in to the Playbook disregarding any other threads on here saying otherwise, as we all know the USB Charging worked just fine before this 1032 update and now its a no go zone due to the OS change so if you are lucky enough to have a Rapid charger then you should be ok but if not then i would look at the charger rather than the playbook on this one? As to the Calender and Contacts that is reported on another thread here http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-PlayBook/Update-2-1-0-1088-is-released/td-p/196374... following a prompt RIM update to 1088, sadly im not updating at the moment so cannot comment on the New OS Update.
