PlayBook VPN Setup - PPTP or L2TP working, possible, or being worked on?

I've been trying to get a VPN service set up on my PlayBook without success. Most commercial VPNs offer PPTP or L2TP protocols, neither of which is obviously supported on the PlayBook. Has anyone got either working? Do we know if RIM is working on getting them to be able to work with a future softwarre update?? The iPad seems to support these so it would behoove RIM to provide such suppport.

I don't think they are working on it, honestly. If you search the interwebs, you will find hundreds of posts of people asking for this feature ever since the playbook got released.
The way I see it is that the only way it will ever make it into the playbook is if you emailed Thorston Heins directly and get him to force the moron who made the decision to leave it out of the playbook to put it back in.

  • I do not see where to enter IP addresses in the Open VPN setup. Also, how can I set it up so that I can choose different servers in the same way as I can currently choose them with my VPN app but for PPTP?

I think I have it working on my iPhone 5. But, I do not see how I can control the exit point that I would like for the VPN. Are all the exit points shown in the VPN setting now going to work with Open VPN, or do they remain PPTP? If I am reading correctly, they look like they remain PPTP. If I cannot control the exit point for open VPN, which exit point is the default in the profile you provided me?I note that Open VPN Connect does not work with any of the new 64 bit devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the new iPad MIni. Is there any chance that you guys will come up with an update for your app so that open VPN can be made to work on all iOS devices? That would be nice, particularly if the Open VPN Connect app does not give me a choice of exit points. Thanks,

Just a quick note to tell you that Open VPN has updated their app so that it is compatible with 64 bit ARM devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini Retina. That does not resolve the problem of how to easily choose among the various possibilities for the exit server. We need to find an easy way to choose.

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.
Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:

  • Allowing IPSec PPTP, and L2TP passthrough for VPN Access

Does anyone know where you can allow VPN Passthrough in the Airport Extreme? I am not able to connect to work using the Nortel VPN client, however when using my Linksys (where I have configured IPSec, PPTP and L2TP) it works fine.

I have the exact same problem with my work windows machine. I temporily got it working by setting the default NAT address to the IP address of my work laptop.
This is not an acceptable long term solution for me. I will have to return the airport extreme and go back to linksys myslef if it cannot be resolved.

  • WRT320N: a URL VPN-server (PPTP/L2TP)

    All,
My ISP has a URL VPN-server for connection to the Internet (vpn.internet.beeline.ru).
I have defined (by ping) one of IP-addresses and have entered it in WRT320N (PPTP).
It works, but it is not always good, since IP-address of server often varies.
It seems to me that to use fixed IP instead of URL - incorrectly. There is other decision?
How correctly to adjust PPTP/L2TP of WRT320N for a URL VPN-server?

I am not familiar with many of VPN and PPTP settings. But can you answer in 2 words CAN I SOMEHOW make my wrt320n use URL instead of IP for pptp server?
And the second question is why does it supplies poor speed when connected through pptp via cable? I have 18 Mbit plan but router seems to give no more than 10-12 Mbit (tested on speedtest.net). When connected directly via PC lan -- test shows full 18 Mbit.

I currently have 2 harddrives hooked up. One has about 37.56 Gigs left on it (probably just over 3/4 full) and the other is nearly full. My files are saved onto it. I am editing in DV format and everything is rendered.
I have a drive allocated as the scratch disk.
I don't believe the drive is going to sleep. I would think it would effect my audio as well, since they are both located on the same drive.
For what it's worth, I ended up ejecting the drive I was using as I needed to do some other work and my system seemed to speed back up. I reopened Final Cut with and it's like my system isn't bogged down anymore. I may try capturing to tape using a different drive and see if maybe it was the drive itself that was bogging down my system.

  • How can I connect to a VPN via PPTP?

    Hello,
I am a foreigner living in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province, in China. I bought my macbook the summer of 2006. It still works perfectly except I cannot connect to the internet here at the university.
The internet here is split into two parts: local, and international. The ethernet connection allows me to access Chinese websites, but nothing else. It sounds counterintuitive but really, that's how it is. In order to get the rest of the world, all computers have to connect to a VPN via PPTP. Once this is established, viola, you have internet.
My problem is I cannot seem to connect to the VPN. I have used Internet Connect, I have created a VPN via PPTP, and put in all the right numbers...
    the VPN IP is 202.207.128.115
    the username is tyut
    the password is tyut
But when I try to connect, it just says it can't. Nobody at the university has been helpful because they've never used a Mac before, and besides which, they aren't used to using a computer in English.
Can anyone help me? Or does anyone know how to get in touch with Apple Services in China (in English)?

Yeah, but that's not the problem here. I'm an English teacher at Taiyuan University of Technology (the irony does not escape me). The other teachers have PCs and can get full internet in their apartment. Since I have a mac, it's much harder for the school technicians to help me.
This is what my log says from the VPN connection (which does connect now.)
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : PPTP connecting to server '202.207.128.115' (202.207.128.115)...
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : PPTP connection established.
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : Using interface ppp0
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : Connect: ppp0 <--> socket[34:17]
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : local IP address 172.30.1.252
    Mon Oct 29 16:05:52 2007 : remote IP address 172.30.1.2
But I still can't load any pages from the VPN connection, just the regular ethernet connection (local internet). It doesn't work if I use IP addresses instead. :-/ I unselected "send all traffic over the VPN connection" because if it's selected, I don't even get local internet.
Looking online I found a possible fix, but it's for Windows XP. I don't know how to find the same settings on the Mac...For Windows XP:
    1. Click Start -> Control Panel
    2. Click on the Network and Internet Connections icon and then click "Network Connections". If your Control Panel is in classic view, simply double click the "Network Connections" icon.
    3. Right click on the new VPN connection and select Properties
    4. Select the "Networking" tab
    5. Verify that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is highlighted
    6. Click on the Properties button
    7. Within the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties window, click on the "Advanced..." button. Within the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, REMOVE the check mark next to "Use default gateway on remote network"
    8. Click "OK" to close all open windows
Where would the "default gateway on remote network" be on a Mac?

The VPN server in Server.app is these days pretty feeble, it only does PPTP and L2TP and does not support using security certificates or VPN on demand. (Which requires security certificates.) As a result the security of Apples VPN server is only capable of functions which have all been successfully cracked. Now for most people that might not be too much of a concern but if your a law, health, finance, or government customer then it should be a concern.
    However...
While the VPN server itself does not support clustering nor in fact do any of the services in Server.app there might be a way to achieve what you want. If you have a DNS load-balancer then you can point all the clients to the load-balancer and it will distribute the requests to two or more Apple VPN servers. You just need to make sure each Apple VPN server gives out a different range of IP addresses with no overlaps.

  • RV120W VPN Setup - basic help needed

    Hi all,
I've recently bought a RV 120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall hoping it would ease me in creating VPN and remote connectivity. But I seems to be struggling with this.
    Here is my situation.
When I bought my Cisco router I didn't know it had an ethernet port for WAN. I thought it would have a RJ11 compliant port. So now I am having to put the router behind my modem.
    I gave my modem's LAN 192.168.2.1 and to RV120W I gave 192.168.2.2.
All PC's are not connected to internet via RV120W. For RV120W, the local IP network is 192.168.1.0. I've set 192.168.1.1 as the management IP of the Cisco RV120W. All the PC's can get internet from the above layout arrangement.
With frustration, I've portforwared all my ports on the modem (except 1 port) to RV120W i.e to IP 192.168.2.2.
If I enable PPTP on RV120W I can ping its port (1723 i remember) from outside. If I connect to port 80 from outside my network, I can get the managemnt interface of the RV120W.
With the help of the RV120W's userguide I managed to create VPN policy stuff via the 'basic VPN Setup' menu. The guides says to use a wizard but there is no wizard for VPN setup.
With that I have even created users (of every type) but I just can't make the connection.
When I use the QuickVPN to connect... its goes from "Connecting", "Activating Policy" again "Connecting" and then a big error saying a couple of things that might have caused the error.
I want to start from the beginning.
    Can somebody please help me.
First... what I am I supposed to put in the fields of the following screenshot. Especially the fields "Remote WAN's IP Address", "Local WAN's IP Address" and "Local LAN IP Address".

Once I knew about the bridge mode thing from this discussion, I started reading the manual of the modem in regard to the brigde mode setup.
According to the manual, the 'Data' bulb on the modem would be off if the modem is in bridge mode. and I've successfully put the modem on bridge mode I guess. It was pretty easy. I just deleted all the WAN setup rules/configs and began with the initial setup wizard which basically had the option to set the modem to bridge mode. After so, the 'Data' bulb got off meaning the modem is now in bridge mode. I am happy about that
    But... still not done.
I put one ethernet cable into of the LAN ports of the modem and put the other end in RV120W WAN port. Logged into to RV120W, configured new PPPoE profile (I have the user and pass details) and attached it to the WAN internet setup config.
I went back to the dashboard of RV120W to see if WAN was up. It didn't. I gave some time. It didn't work. It says 'connecting' but never connects.
What am I doing wrong? Am I putting the cable between the modem and router the right way?
...and also, when the modem is in bridge mode will it forward all packets from lan to wan and vice versa or is it like forwarding packets to all ports once recieved.
(I am learning so much with this RV120W )

  • RV220W VPN Setup

I am trying to setup and configure a VPN on the RV220W that uses IPSEC so I can use the Cisco VPN Client I use at work, I have gone through the user manual 11 or 12 times now but still cannot work it out. I cannot find where on the Rv200W iset up the phase 1 authentication username and password which will then lead me onto the phase 2 stage of asking for a username password to allow me access.
Does any one have a simple step by step guide to this?
    Many Thanks

Tom's right.  The only Cisco Small Business class routers that support the Cisco 5.x client are the SA500 Series routers.  I don't see them changing that because the Cisco 5.x client is nearing end of support.  If anything they would add Cisco AnyConnect support.  That's the latest, greatest VPN tech from Cisco.
We can help you setup SSL VPN (for Windows and/or Mac OSX Snow Leopard) and/or IPSec VPN (using IPSecuritas for Mac OSX and/or Shrewsoft/Quick VPN/Greenbow for Windows).  You have lots of options to get VPN access to your RV220W.  The RV220W even supports PPTP VPN which works with the Apple iPhone, iPad, etc.

  • Playbook VPN Cisco ASA over 3G (Blackberry Bridge)

Hi, i installed VPN Connection on Playbook to Cisco VPN Concentrator, over Wifi all works fine.
I like to use it over 3G, because Wifi is not everywhere available. So i connected my Playbook with Blackberry Torch over Bridge and tried to use the Blackberry for 3G connection, but it does not work.
Is it possible to get it work?
BES is no option because i would like to connect not only to my own company network and other networks dont have BES.

    what phone do you use?
I dont know if the VPN will work on bridge, does Cisco claim it will? Not all apps work with bridge, but many do.
You might be able to enable personal hotspot on your phone but we dont know what it is yet.

I have read many of the problems regarding remote clients not being able to connect to Mavericks Server 3.0 via L2TP outside of the network.
My understanding that Apple has fixed this with 3.02 update.
Since the update, I tried to setup my first time VPN connection and am having similar problems to the noted prior issues.
Mavericks Server has DNS, OD, and VPN setup and running with most current update as of 2/4/14.
My Airport Extreme router is managed via Server App and has VPN ports opened.  Have shutoff Back to My Mac and Find my Mac also on the server.  I have also put in my hostname miniserver."example".com into the DNS on my Fatcow registrar pointing to my public IP address.   "example" obviously being my domain name.
My Mavericks Macbook Pro has been setup with VPN client/shared secret and the public ip address of my router.  The Macbook will connect to the VPN inside the network, but will not connect outside of the local network.  Have tried setting up my home Mavericks iMac with the same result.
Have read other discussions regarding copying the old racoon vpn from mountain lion server, but understand that shouldn't be necessary as Apple has allegedly fixed the problem.  Also do not want to have to redo everytime Apple pushes out a Server update.
First time I have ever setup VPN and seems close, but not quite, to working.
    Thanks.....

Select the Network tab in AirPort Utility and click Network Options. In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
    Allow incoming IPSec authentication
if it's not already checked, and save the change.

  • PPTP no longer working through Cisco 2901

Up until yesterday, the PPTP VPN to our main office was working as ordered.
Yesterday our ISP statically assigned our IP address to us, and it went from ip address dhcp to ip address x.x.x.x
Everything else works fine, internet and whatnot, but the VPN connection will no longer work.  It just times out.  I'm wondering if it's something in my config that is blocking it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As you can see, this isn't in anyshape or form an advanced configuration.  So I don't see what the problem could be.

The other side of the VPN is a TMG server hosted at our main office.  I can connect to it off site, and others were connected to it remotely as well, but for some reason users at that remote site can no longer connect to the VPN.
I talked to my ISP wondering if there was something that was blocked due to the change from dhcp to static IP addresses, but they don't see anything.

  • Page Setup dialog doesn't work

    Hi everyone
My generic Page Setup dialog box as e.g. used for Word etc. doesn't work:
In the Page Setup dialog, the "Setting" menu doesn't work at all, i.e. I can see the dropdown but it doesn't accept my changes (it's fixed on "Page Settings"). All other menus or choices are accepted but then the "OK" button doesn't work; it just flickers briefly and then goes back to blue. The "Cancel" button makes all contents of the dialog box disappear except for the frame and the buttons. Either way force quitting and relaunching the application is the only way to continue working in the application.
What could be the issue here?
A few specs on my hardware, printer and system:
    - MacBook Pro (brand new)
    - OS X 10.5.5
    - Printers: hp LaserJet 4200 (main printer), iP5200R, OKI B6200, Lexmark E321. All these printers I used without problems with my old PowerBook G4.
The problem occurs with all applications using this generic Page Setup dialog, such as Word, Grab etc. In Excel e.g. all these functions work (it uses a different kind of dialog box for the page setup).
The problem could possibly have started to occur when the Lexmark printer could not be installed automatically so I assigned it another Lexmark driver, which seemed to work. But I'm not sure whether those two problems occurred at the same time.
    What I tried already:
    - uninstall and reinstall all printers in the Print & Fax part of the System Preferences. I uninstalled all printers and (without restart) reinstalled the hp printer only. The problem was still there, even upon restart.
    - reinstall Word (first I thought it was a Word problem)
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
Try to increase the size of repeating frame, as I follow this strategy in my report find the outermost repeating frame and increase its size to whole page than increase the size of your required repeating frame if you want to break page on this group, no need to set max record and page break properties(as I saw page break property never works).
    Thanks.

  • 10.4 dns setup correct but not working

i was working with a client to set-up VPN on an Xserve running 10.4 server; the server has been running fine for over a year and a half. We followed Apple instruction to connect the cable modem to one ethernet port (PCI), and left the internal network on the built-in. this seemed to work ok, but after running thru the Gateway Setup Assistant DNS no longer answers requests for the internal network.
I've checked the named.conf file and everything there is correct and as it was before. the same with the zone files in /var/named.
the only thing that seemed odd to me was that the resolv.conf file points to the external dns servers and not the internal server. I don't remember what they were wet-up with before, so i'm not sure if this is correct.
the server points to itself for dns in the network system preference on the internal network, but the external network gets its information via dhcp.
the only other thing we changed was to turn on the firewall and vpn.
since dns isn't working neither is kerberos even though the service is running. I'm assuming this is related and will work again once the DNS issues are resolved.
    any thougths?

If this machine is a nameserver for internal, then port 53 will need to be open on the firewall for the internal interface, and the external interface will have to allow responses from port 53 both TCP and UDP.

  • WRT600N WRT310N PPTP will not work in some cases

    Hello All,
This is more of a warning than a request for help. If you are using the WRT600N or the WRT310N and you need to use PPTP VPN connections, these are not the routers for you!
The PPTP support only work with MS PPTP Servers, it does not work with other VPN routers such as Nortel Contivity's and others.
Please read other threads in this forum, in most cases the wireless connectivity does not work properly, and the router is prone to freeze, requiring it to be hard booted often.

Just to update everyone... Firmware Version 1.01.36 Build 3 does not fix the PPTP issues with the WRT600N router.
