Playbook won't boot up after upgrade?

I upgraded to the new OS 2.0 today and now my playbook won't boot up?  What's going on??

You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
You should have the Desktop Software version 7 installed on your PC, can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
1. Make sure your PlayBook is powered off (sounds like yours might already be) press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
2. With the Desktop Software open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer.
3. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
4. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc.), and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld >  My World section of AppWorld.

  • Problem: Mac won't boot up after upgrade to 10.5.4

Upgraded MacBook Air (SSD model) to 10.5.4 last night. Got a couple of boots where MBA showed a grey panel in the centre of the screen (in 4 languages) saying that I needed to restart my computer. On the third try got the white Apple startup, then a plain light blue screen. I know from previous upgrades that can sit for a while, so I left it overnight. In the morning, still blue. Power off, power on, grey panel telling me to restart again. Seems to be in a cycle of twice with a grey box, then the blue screen. Any ideas?
Everything is backed up, so if I get it sort-of working, I can restore to my last good 10.5.3 and take it from there.

    Hi,
    it happened to me too.
I've G4 mini with 1Gb RAM: with 10.5.3 everything was working fine.
Once upgraded to 10.5.4 and reboot, the Mac just won't start: blue screen with mouse cursor but nothing more.
Additionally, the mac becomes extremely noisy as for some process taking out all the CPU.
It's the second time I got a system failure after upgrading Leopard: this starts to be annoying.

  • BB Playbook won't connect wifi after upgrade to OS 2.1.0.1526

MY BB Playbook won't connect via wifi to my home network after upgrading the OS to version 2.1.0.1526
It worked fine until the upgrade.
Now, every time it resumes, the connection is lost and I get the message Unable to obtain an IP address.
The only method I have found around this is to reboot my modem.
    TIA

  • PlayBook Won't start up after Upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello,
While syncing up my PlayBook to my LapTop which I do about every week, an upgrade process took over and part way through the process I was told that the upgrade could not be completed.   After that I get NOTHING!!! I was getting a red blinking light and that has stopped.
I have spent the last 2 days on the internet researching everything I could find to help me.  I have tried the 3 button test,  charging it for 2 minutes then off for 15 seconds did that one over 30 times, charged it over night...Still NOTHING!!!  I know that both charger work I have tried it out on my Curve.
I finally got on line to see what support I could get and all I could find was that I need to call RIM and give them my Credit Card #.  I have to pay for this piece of junk that I did NOTHING wrong with. Now I have to pay for this junk..As for as I am concerned  this thing is DOA and all I want is an RMA to get this fixed so I can sell it and get a  REAL tablet!!
Can anyone tell me how to get an RMA or do I have to pay for that one too.......
Please any help will be appreciated......

  • My 2006 iMac running Snow Leopard won't boot even after erasing and re-installing Snow Leopard (via my MacBookPro), either from the HD or DVD drive.  Can't get it to run Hardware Test.  Disk Utility says disk OK - files are there. What can I do?

My 2006 iMac running Snow Leopard won't boot even after erasing and re-installing Snow Leopard.   I erased and re-installed by putting the iMac in Target Disk mode and usin my MacBookPro as the host.  But after numerous attempts I still can't get it to boot either from the HD or DVD drive. I just get the white screen after the wheel stops spinning.  I can't get it to run Hardware Test - just get the white screen.  If I use Disk Utility via my MBP it says the disk appears OK. All the Snow Leopad files appear to have been installed. What can I do?

Perhaps you installed the wrong version OS X onto the iMac, you can't use the disk from another Mac.
    clean the disk.
If it's not working then use this method to create a bootable 10.6 USB from the iMac machine specific 10.6 disk or the 10.6.3 retail disk on your other Mac, use it to boot the iMac with.

  • Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

    Hi Mike
This is called a kernel panic, similar to s 'blue screen of death' on Windows. When you say you reinstalled 3 times, do you mean the OS or the Update?
When does this kernel panic appear? You may have a hardware issue if it's happening on boot.

  • Playbook won't boot after upgrade to v2

I did my OTA upgrade this morning, and it downloaded and appeared to apply successfully.  I hit the "restart" button and the playbook has been stuck at the shiny lights splash screen since.
I've even done a hard reset - still stuck.  I can't get it to boot up.  Upgrade FAIL.
Anyone know how I should begin troubleshooting this?  This is my one and only Blackberry device (not encouraging).
If I haven't backed up in a few days (I know, I know...), can I redownload recently purcahsed apps? How can I even find them? Will they show in App World if they aren't installed?
    Thanks in advance,

Mine took over 15 min to reboot.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot up after Lion upgrade

I upgraded my 13" macbook pro to lion last night. I watched some movies until the battiery died. Now it won't boot up. Indicator light does not come on and it makes no noise. Battery indicator says it's full. Any suggestions?

MBP's are very finicky about RAM. Most of us here will recommend Crucial or OWC as the best source. If I were you I'd put the original RAM back in and see if the problem goes away. If so, return what you just bought and buy from one of the vendors I mentioned.

  • 13" MBP Mid 2010 won't wake up after upgrade to Mavericks from Lion

    Hi
I read numerous threads regarding this problem from Mac Minis to Mac Pros and also MBA and MBP.  After upgrade from Lion to Mavericks, my MBP cannot wake up.  I have to hold the power button down to force it to turn off then power it back up from hibernation.  SMC reset, Mavericks reinstalled, Repaired Disk Permission, ram refresh, all done and did not help.
It helps whenever the computer goes to sleep, whether forcefully by choosing Sleep from the Apple Menu or by closing the lid.
Anyone please help, if not, APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS BUG.
    Thanks
    J

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • [Solved] Boot failure after upgrade to udev 0.84

After upgrading my system it no longer boot properly.
The kernel boots fine. Initrd executes and the normal init starts.
First of is the start of udev. This starts and immediately complains that nss_ldap is unable to contact the ldap server. Not very strange when networking isn't started yet.
After a little while and a few repetitions of the nss_ldap error message udev says its done.
After this activating swap fails but mounting Root readonly succeds. After this init proceeds with "Checking file system". This fails miserably saying "no such file or directory /dev/sda3" which is the previously mounted root filesystem.
It seems like udev gets busy when not able to connect to the ldap server and hence doesn't create the device nodes for my harddrive in time.
Because the check of the filesystem fails i end up on a rescue prompt. And when logging in to that and check /dev the sda* nodes are there.
Does anyone have a clue on how udev depends on nss_ldap? Any other thought on whats going on?

Ok, after some investigation it turns out that it seems like udev starts a few /sbin/vol_id on the disks/partitions attached. These processes in turn triggered nss_ldap which couldnt connect to the remote ldap server due to network not being up.
I have a less than beautiful solution to the problem. Altering nss_ldap to do soft binds instead of the default that is hard binding. When using hard bind and connect fails it uses an exponential backoff and tries again a little later. Changing to soft bind makes nss_ldap returning immediately when failing.
To  change this edit  /etc/nss_ldap.conf and change the line saying something like
    #bind_policy hard
    to
    bind_policy soft
This at least helped me getting a system that boots again.

  • Computer won't boot up after installing SIIG card

    Hey Everyone,
I having problems with my SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe DV card that I've installed into my PowerMac G5 Quad. With the card installed the computer will not boot up, which is the same thing that happened with my previous two models of the card. I installed a new card yesterday and it worked fine all day, but after shutting the computer down for the night and then restarting it in the morning I am experiencing the same problems. The light on the front of the computer turns on, but the screen does not, and after about a minute a loud fan noise comes one. I have the card installed in Slot 2. In Slot 1 I have a ProTools HD card and in Slot 3 I have an AJA Kona LHE card. Even with all of the cards removed the computer still does not boot up. Anyone seen this problem before? Any help or information anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, I had the same problem with my dual core G5.
I installed the card and my computer won't boot up. The screen stays gray and the fan keeps spinning.
I contacted SIIG and they said the card is defective, which, I doubt it is.
I then returned it for a refund.

  • HP won't boot up after Windows 8.1 update

I downloaded Windows 8.1 on Friday night, finally was able to install it on Sunday afternoon, don't know why it took so long. Regardless, the computer installed 8.1 and restarted itself. After booting back up, the computer would be at the desktop (not the start screen). An error message popped up that started with "the instruction at 0x7904640c referenced memory..." I didn't get the full message, but the end of the message said to click ok to terminate the program. The only button to click was the ok button. I click this and the screen would flicker in and out. I continued to do this for a while. I performed a hard shutdown, and as it started to boot up, the computer took forever. After letting it do its thing for about 12 hours now, it's still on the booting up screen with the "Preparing Automatic Repair" and the loading circle moving dots.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

    Hi Ryan44,
Thank you for your post, I will do my best to assist you!
I understand that after upgrading to Windows 8.1, you received an error and clicked OK to terminate the program. Once you did, the screen flickered in and out. You did a   shut down and restarted the  notebook, but it has been stuck on Windows Repair for 12 hours.
I would try a forced reset first.Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset
If this did not help, I  suggest you do a recovery and then retry the upgrade as the repair does not seem to be working. Here is some documentation to assist you with this process.
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8).
During this process you will receive a prompt to backup your personal files. If you have not done a backup yet, I suggest you do one now to prevent data loss.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8).
Here another one to aid with updating to Windows 8.1 again.
    Updating Windows 8 to 8.1
    I hope this helped.

  • Mail won't open inbox after upgrade

After upgrading my dads macbook from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6, mail would open but nothing would pop-up. and when he opened the inbox manually, the account doesnt show up even though it is set correctly in the preferences.
also when he goes to quit the application, it won't quit. like it's ignoring him. he has to force quit in order to shut the computer off, otherwise when he tries to shut down with it running, it tells him he cant shut down because of mail.
he is in the process right now of updating the macbook to the latest leopard release and all subsequent updates before he goes ahead and installs his snow leopard upgrade. but as it stands, he is at 10.5.6 with this error.

    Hello k:
Tell him to not upgrade until the problem is resolved. Upgrading a problem system usually yields an upgraded problem system.
Tell him to rebuild the mailbox.

  • Won't boot anymore after nvidia-xconfig

    Hey Guys,
Got a problem with my Arch Linux here, hope you can help.
Today I tried to install the official Nvidia Driver and BumbleBee following along the great Wiki on this topic.
Everything worked just fine and I also could run optirun gfxgear or somemthing like this.
I wanted to switch to the Nvidia Settings in the settings menu and it told me to configure my xconfig and restart x so I typed nvidia-xconfig in the terminal and it gave me an success output.
I restarted my system and now it hangs on the graphical thing I think. It won't boot anymore.
Hope you can help me out.
    Thanks alot
Edit: My Nvidia Card is a Nvidia GT 740M if this matters

No, I have a laptop with 2 graphic cards an intel hd4000 and a nvidia gt 740m.
I ran the Arch Linux installation well until I tried to get the nvidia gt working with bumblebee.
I followed the wiki of the bumblebee topic and it worked well. I wanted to switch into the nvidia settings and it told me my x isnt configured properly and I should type nvidia-xconfig and restart X.
After the restart it won't boot to the graphical interface anymore.
Hope this cleared up the things
Also I dont get any errors but it just wont load..
