Playbook won't charge

Bought a refurbished playbook. The playbook won't charge! the mini usb cable dosn't go in the port of the PB all the way. I have tried using a differnt cable - and it dosn't work. the cable is ok as it is charging my cellphone right now. Can you help my? Is ther a hardeware problem? What to do?

Did you purchase the playbook with some type of warranty?   Normally refurbs come with a 30-90 day.
Did it power up and work fine when you received it?  I ask because if it did I would assume that whomever you purchased it from utilized what's referee to as a "rapid travel charger" on Amazon (as well refered as a charging pod, extra at places like Walmart...ect...just Google "Magnetic Charged for Playbook").
It quite honestly sounds like a common issue Playbook has in that the connection inside the playbook for the chargef has broken.  As well, housing cannot utilize the USB port connecting it to your computer to charge as the connection is not strong enough to charge the playbook via the computer.
You are left with one option (besides sending it back from where it came, which I highly recommend because it obviously WAS NOT refurbished like you were told) that option is to purchase the Rapid Travel Charger - Amazon is way cheaper for this item.
My first Playbook was a Playbook 16gb.  First the connection went out like yours.  Rapid chger fixed that issue, then the whole unit went dark.  All this after approx 15mths (remember, mine was new).
I just purchased a new Playbook 64gb.  The whole unit seems better made.
The issues you and I had were normalwith the older units.

  • My BlackBerry PlayBook won't charge when connected to the computer via the micro-USB to USB cable

Can anybody help me? I don't know why but lately, when I try to plug my BlackBerry PlayBook into my Windows 7 laptop using the micro-USB to USB cable, it connects to my computer without any problems but it won't charge. Instead, I get a notification in the top left corner saying "Unable to charge battery with connected sorce". I have four USB ports and I'm positive that they work just fine because I plugged in some of the USBs I own into each of those four ports and they recognized the USBs without any issues. Does anybody know how I can resolve this issue? Thanks.

The notification is by design and was added to clarify that USB charging is not to be relied upon as a main method of charging. Instead RIM's good intention has caused confusion.
USB (by design) can not provide the amount of power the device needs while it's being used. Technically, it is still trickle charging but the screen has to be off (and I'd turn off Wi-Fi too) since they are high power draining items.  I have verified that the PlayBook does indeed still charge but it takes much, much longer than plugging it into a wall charger or rapid charger. In a crunch it will work but the computer has to be on the entire time. A full charge would take many hours.

  • Playbook won't charge, light won't turn on: Solution.

I like many others have been having problems charging my playbook. It was dead, wouldn't turn on, tried everything! From rapid charger to connecting and disconnecting the USB port. I even opened the playbook and disconnected the battery. Finally, something worked.
    Solution:
I pushed up on the connector with a tiny piece of metal, plastic, (whatever works for you) so the connector that charges the playbook is in the middle. Simply, I reversed the connection, so when I plugged the connector in, it plugged in upside down. I immediately got a charge, the red light came on, from a completely dead playbook and the charging icon flashed.
The problem as I am guessing is that the connector is very flimsy, if you pull the USB cord out of the playbook, it will bend the connector down. By lifting it to about the middle and reversing the connection, it works again.
You can test this simply by observation. On the top piece of the end of the USB, the side which connects to your RIM Blackberry Playbook, you will see two prongs on the outside, clasps. If you look inside the connection of the Playbook, you will see two grooves which these prongs fit into. When you fit the USB into the Playbook, if the prongs on the USB are on the wrong side, you are connecting it upside down. Move the small metal piece in the Playbook up or down to fix.

Try a hard reset with it plugged in...press and hold the power and volume +&- until the device restarts...worked for me.

  • Playbook won't charge or turn on

I have read through many post here about this problem and nothing is working for me.  I have not used my playbook for a while (it is an older model- I've had it 4 years), and when I plug it in I get the red battery with a lightening bolt through it then the screen goes black.  I have tried holding the power button, I even left it plugged in overnight and still nothing.  Twice I have seen the red led change to yellow, but then it goes black again.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Did you read about stack charging and try it? If not, search on stacked charging and stack charging. You will read what has happened, I think, as well as the solution that may work for you. Good luck.

  • Blackberry Playbook won't charge

My Playbook is just over a year old and I have not been able to use it for a few months as I have not been able to charge it. I have kept it plugged in to recharge for as long as 3 days in my attempt to charge it and nothing....
I have tried charging it as well from my laptop, still nothing. I have NOT  gotten the green light, I have gotten a red light for just a couple of seconds and then nothing but black...black screen, black everything!
Please don't tell me to plug it in and charge it ...I have done it many times, it will NOT take a charge. Can the battery be replaced in the unit? If so where can I get a new one? What else could be wrong? I am frustrated with it.
I purchased this mainly for traveling and I am going away next week and need it.

  • Playbook won't charge past 77% and brightness slider greyed out / unresponsive

I have had this 32g playbook for over a year and this problem has persisted, no matter what I've tried. I have hard reset it numerous times and tried several of the suggestions provided on this site. Even at the 77% charge, the playbook battery doesn't last more then 24 hours and I am wondering what exactly is wrong with this device. Can anyone help me with this? I like the tablet and I haven't junked it because I want it fixed, but after a year of this same problem I am at a loss.

I am having the same problems as you do, brightness slider unresponsive and battery cant be fully charged.
I got my playbook as a gift from a friend who works at Blackberry. It's a brand new employee clearence unit and hence there is zero after sale support, I dont know what i can do with it. The battery cant last at all, it's a faulty unit.
Can anyone provide me a phone number that I can call blackberry support?

  • Playbook won't charge with 3rd party adapter

I have a new Playbook plugged in to a Lenovo slim adapter with a micro-USB tip.  I use this same adapter to charge my Blackberry (it has dual charging capability so I can plug my laptop in at the same time).
The issue is that although the Playbook shows it is plugged in (lightning bolt across the battery icon), the charge doesn't increase, and actually seems to go down ever so slightly.
I always thought that USB was USB (i.e. 5V), but that appears not to be the case.  Any thoughts?

You need to use the charger that came in the box with the playbook, it is rated at 5v 1800mA. If you use another adapter, even though it is microUSB, it wont have enough capacity (current wise) to charge a playbook and a laptop at the same time, it wont even be able to keep the charge, because is splitting the current with two loads.  Voltage and Current are two different things. Same voltage doesn't mean it can charge many devices at the same time, unless the rated Current of the charger is enough for the loads, i.e. three devices rated at 5v 300mA can be charge with an adapter rated at a max Current of 1500mA, 5v, because is overdesigned for the loads.
In a playbook in particular, the more current the adpater has (with a constant 5v) the faster the battery gets charged.

  • Blackberry Playbook won't charge no matter what charging device or method I use

My Blackberry Playbook was charging fine and last night when I plugged it in it wouldn't charge at all.  I have tried using the Blackberry Playbook charger, my android phone charger, and the USB cable attached to my computer.  Nothing works.  The Playbook with turn on and boot up but then shuts off again.  Can someone help me?

    Yo MR, howzit;
So, you got coconutbattery utility? http://www.coconut-flavour.com, donation-ware: awesome. My MBP is like 49% of original battery capacity; 132 load cycles; sounds lame but I am surviving.
Yeah, buying a battery ... Nothing like a new battery; which entails an expenditure. There were threads here last year about an AAPL credit for certain battery serial #s; search this forum. Else, keep trying: have you calibrated? The SMC reset; maybe try it again? Good luck; post back!

  • Playbook won't charged even using a RMC

    Hi,
Just wanna ask what could be the problem. Since i had a problem of an almost dead PB before
and the only solution was to buy a Rapid Magnetic Charger online. Since then I wont let my PB to
fully discharge its power. I usually charged it when it reaches 30-40% battery power.
However just yesterday, as i arrived home and plugged my PB using the USB charger i have at home
Battery power is at 30%, i leave it at that overnight and made sure to see a bolt icon on the battery before
putting it in Stand by mode. However, when i woke up today at 5:30AM to see if its Fully Charged, i was
shocked to see that instead of 100% or less i saw that it had drained to 26%...still plugged in with the bolt
    symbol on the battery icon.
So what i did when i arrived at the office, i then charged it using the Rapid Charger i have and let it charge from 7:30am to 12:00nn to see any changes (25% at that time), however it wont even get past 25% for that 4 hours of charging...i really don't know the problem is..i've searched the forum and cant find solution.
I already tried Turning it OFF then plugging in the charger RED light goes and then the blinking light (Yellow/Green) which indicates that its charging...however when i check it or turned it on still no changes
FYI: There are no running apps on the background.

Could be a failing GPU/logicboard as you said the HD checked out.
Take it in to an Apple Genius for a full diagnostic, they wil diagnose it for free, then give you your options. (make an appointment)l

  • Charging PlayBook won't allow standby

My PlayBook is currently charging and every time I press the power-button to go to standby-mode, the screen comes back on and wants me to log in again.
I hope this is a bug and not a "feature".
I know that charging while turned off is not possible (another idiotic "feature") but I hope at least there is a solution for my problem.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have the latest BlackBerry TabletOS and am using a 5V-1A-output charger (only difference to original charge is the 1A instead of 1.8) because the US-wall-charger won't fit into my Austrian wall sockets
When charging via my Mac's USB-port does not turn on the PlayBook-screen (but takes forever to charge because the USB-output isn't enough).
There are no applications running, WiFi is turned off and the Bridge isn't installed/activated because I don't own a BlackBerry smartphone.

  • PlayBook Turn on but won't charge

    Here is The situation:
I bought my playbook on Jan.2012, but couples month ago I lost my charger, but it was OK because I have an extra Blackberry Charger (bb 8900). It was working great since like a month or so it won't charge anymore.
When I connect it to The charger I get red led for about 15 sec , red battery with bolt, and then pulsating yellow led.
I tried stack charge: no result
    (cycles of 2mins/2mins, 2min/10sec, 15secs/2secs)
tried to update playbook: download and install but wont reconnect to tablet
I purchased a Blackberry rapid charging stand for playbook (in case USB port may be damaged): here.. The playbook turn on after several minutes at set-up screen. I followed all steps but then it says battery too low to update and stay at 0%. I left it on this screen for 50+ hours and wont change When I take it from base it shut down instantly.
    PS:
1-Calling support is NOT an option, I live in Dominican Republic.
2-No blackberry support office/store over here.
    Sorry my bad English

Keep.charging. After 4-5 hours while connected to the charger, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to see if you notice any life in the upper right LED indicator.

  • Playbook won't turn on, boot, or charge. LED flashing red.

Playbook won't turn on, boot, or charge. LED flashing red.

Try this, while connected to your charger. Press and hold the Power key, up and down volume (-/+) all three buttons simultaneously, for about 10-12 seconds. You should the red LED blink and that should allow a reset of the PlayBook and to power up.

  • Won't charge and there is no red light

    All,
I know this won't-charge thing has been repeated asked and answered but I don't see my specific situation mentioned before.
My 64GB playbook was bought last yr and worked smoothly till last week then battery suddently dropped to 10%. After a few reboot, it dropped again to 0%. And when I pressed the power button, the red light did flash.
So I hooked up with the default wall charger for 1 day. no charge. and the red light was GONE as well.
Now the PB is completely dead. When I plug in the wall charger, NOTHING happens. NO red light.
So I bought an official rapid charger from Amazon, hooked up for 1 day. nothing happens.
Press power button + Volume Up/Down for 20 sec, nothing happened.
The only thing I haven't tried is to hook up with laptop using the USB cable. I lost mine a while back and just ordered one from Amazon.
    Anyone had similar problem?

  • Z10 won´t charge

    Hello,
    I have a Blackberry z10 that won´t charge.
It will however detect the micro usb when plugged in, start charging and then stop right away and reset.  I have one more week in Iceland before returning to Canada and this is really annoying.
I am having the same problems with my playbook.  It will charge for 4 seconds and then won´t detect the usb cord anymore.
    Whats going on?

Are you charging with the factory OEM wall charger or via USB to a computer?
Try this, on the Z10 while connected to the wall charger, leave it connected to the charger and powered on, remove the battery and reinsert.

  • Blackberry Playbook won't reboot

    Hi there,
I wonder if you can help me. I have a problem with my playbook as it won't reboot. When I switch it on the red button coms up and all seems to be working fine. However after about 1 minute of rebooting, the playbook switches off. Can you please help.

This darn thing WON'T TURN ON! No lights come on or anything either.
Connect to your known good wall outlet charger.
Leave it connected for several hours.. even 24 hours.
Every 4-5 hours WITH THE CHARGER STILL CONNECTED, press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds.
If you see any LED red or yellow activity, that is good. LEAVE it to continue to charge.
REPEAT this:  Every 4-5 hours WITH THE CHARGER STILL CONNECTED, press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds.
