Playhead randomly jumps to start

I started a new project a couple of days ago. FCP 6.0.5.
I'm having a weird problem: at regular, seemingly random intervals, the playhead is jumping to the start of the piece without warning. I haven't been able to find any activity that I've been repeating when it happens.
I've done a similar project on this same computer using the same installation of FCP and never had this problem before.
Does this ring any bells with anyone?
I've had a second seemingly random problem as well, that may or may not be related. When alt-tabbing back and forth between FCP and another app, the FCP window layout periodically changes, so that the Bin browser is closed, and the play-side viewer is closed, and the timeline-side view is now centered in the middle of the upper portion of the screen all by itself. This has happened repeatedly when alt-Tabbing back to FCP (but not every time).
Any ideas?

Does this ring any bells with anyone?
Weird behaviors are often caused by corrupted preferences.
Try [Trashing FCP Preferences|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm]
Then empty the trash and restart the machine.
Hope that fixes the problem,
G.

  • Playhead randomly JUMPS to the end of the timeline when "editing" during playback

    CS 6.0.1
    OSX 10.7.4
I love the new feature in CS6 that lets you edit DURING playback, and playback won't stop. Brilliant.
Now, I use this feature a lot making cuts as I go. I use the "command + shift + k" combo to make an edit to all tracks while the playhead is moving along. It seems though that every so often when I do this, the playhead warps to the end of the timeline. Very frustrating, and when dealing with long timelines, really slows me down, to get back to where I was working.
Also I can repeat this "glitch" very easily, so its not some totally random occurance. Just pushing cmd+shift+k while the playhead is moving a few times repeats it very quickly.
Am I doing something wrong here? Or toggling some OTHER key command inadvertently? Or is this a legit glitch?
EDIT: I would like to add that using the "nudge" command during playback has the same glitch of arbitrarily jumping to the end of the timeline if you click the nudge command quickly in succession.

This issue was NOT resolved by manually installing all cs6 updates that were failing with adobe product manager, then doing a clean installation of the latest drivers from Nvidia's website using the ODE (Optimal Drivers for Enterprise) Graphics Drivers.
The issue came back after editing for a little bit., however this following fix worked:
*FIXED BY ADOBE TECH SUPPORT INDIA*
The solution was to delete all media cache files and all cache settings for the specific project.   Check all your cache locations and encoded media file locations.
Rebuild project on load.... edit.    Thanks.

  • When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video.

When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video. This happens randomly and does not seem to be a problem with the videos as they run fine. what is going on?

Several times every day YouTube shuts down some of their servers to update stuff. Be patient if YouTube is slow, stuck or mangled. Transmissions from YouTube to your computer are done in multiple tiny packets of data and flash at a time. That's why sometimes you may get any of these scenarios: bits and pieces of text/thumbnails in weird places; sluggish loading/buffering; the spinning circle going on forever; or the player being blank. This problem could fix itself within a few hours or by the next day.
If your YouTube continues to behave slow, stuck or strange, it's very possible that your directories of "temporary internet files" and RAM (sometimes known as "cache") are close to the maximum and just cannot take anymore, the end result being any of the above scenarios or videos that: A) come to a complete freeze; B) start/stop/start/stop in a choppy way; or C) never even make it onto your screen.
"Temporary internet files" are tiny bits of webpages that get permanently put on your hard-drive. They will remain forever on your computer, gradually plugging it up like hair stuck in a sink drain, until you finally get rid of them once and for all. Thus, exit out of YouTube, then clear your "cache" of all its "temporary internet files", "cookies" and "history". It is best if you shutdown and reboot afterwards. You'll be amazed at how "fresh" and "new" your YouTube will be.

  • Can I adjust the screen size w/o causing playhead to jump and reposition?

I have been used to Ableton Live, that lets you adjust the size of the screen on the fly WITHOUT causing the playhead to jump and reposition itself. Does anybody know what I mean? This may seem like a small thing or hard to understand concept, but it's the most simple of behaviors that I find hard to adjust to in Logic. I am committed to learning all the ins and outs of the program, and have already started to migrate over. It would be helpful if someone could let me know if there is something I can do to approximate what I can do in Live.
    Thanks a million.

Hi treetopstudio. I'm pretty sure what you're describing is the need to zoom in and out of the arrange view so that you can see upclose what is happening or have a view of all the tracks if needed. I've not used live much so cant really comment on the process involved using this program. If I use live and I need to zoom in or out I simply click and drag on the timeline.
In logic I use zoom key commands for doing such a thing. I found this pretty easy to master and use them all the time.
The default for this (on my imac) is the command key plus one of the arrows (up, down, left & right).
You can also hold down the alt key and use the scroll ball (if your mouse has one) for doing this but I find the keys far better.
There are most definately other options available too but this works fine for me.
    Hope this helps

  • Wired mouse randomly jumps to corner

For months if not over a year now I've had an Apple mouse (model no A1152, EMC No 2058) which randomly jumps to a corner. It's nothing to do with the pad graphic as I bought a new one thinking this. The cursor will stay in the corner forever unless I lift the mouse from the pad and when it's placed back down it release. It's seriously annoying. I've swapped to the one my wife uses on her Mac BookPro (model no 5769 EMC No 1967) and the same thing happens. She is using my mouse and hasn't noticed it happening on the MBP!
To eliminate any further causes, I've also added a new drive to my MP and installed 10.6.8 (was on 10.5.8 on other drive) so effectively I'm working on a new machine!
Does anyone have any suggestions for the cause?
    Thanks

  • Retina Macbook Pro randomly jumps to logon screen without warning

My Retina Macbook Pro randomly jumps to the logon screen while I am using it. When I log back in some programs have stopped running and any unsaved work has gone. It has happened while I am not typing or touching the keyboard or mouse as well.

I have the exact same problem with my Retina MBP. At first I thought it was occurring when I CMD+Tab-ed between apps but I've had it jump to the login screen without even toughing the computer. Very frustrating. Upon login I have to wait for apps to reload and I lose unsaved changes. Anyone have any advice?

My ipad2 shut down randomly and than start. Problem is remain after reset. What is the solution.

You can try restoring your iPad as new using iTunes on your computer. This will load a new copy of the iOS software onto your iPad.
If this doesn't work you may have a hardware problem and will need to contact Apple Support.

  • Web pages randomly jump back

Web pages randomly jump back a page or two for no reason. It sometimes happens when I'm not touching the trackpad or the magic mouse. I am using a MacBook Pro O SX Version 10.7.4. It happens with Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.

I'm having that problem with Firefox, but as I'm on the beta release, I thought that it was just a bug in Firefox. I seldom use Safari and never use Chrome, so I don't know if it's just an occasional problem with the OS or with my MacBook Pro.

  • Curser randomly jumping, hightlighting, deleting, self-scrolling...BARELY got this typed...

(It took me over an hour and many attempts to type/re-type this as the curser “took control”, kept deleting, etc…) My Pavilion dv5 curser is randomly jumping, highlighting, deleting, self-scrolling.
This problem subsides for periods of time as unexpectedly as it re-appears. I have ruled out “accidently touching touchpad” or “adjusting sensitivity” I use only a mouse and never the touchpad (which has always been unpredictable despite sensitivity adjustments)
…I posted something about this last year as well. I have very good security and have never had any other hacking issues, only this curser thing. What a waste of a morning! This is so frustrating!!!

Sanchertx has gives good solution, I just want you to try touchpad management tool, you can freely disable/enable any function of the touchpad.

  • Random jump in brightness when rendering

    Mac OS10.4.11, QT7.5, AE CS3, running on a Quad G5.
Ever since upgrading to CS3 (8 months ago) I have been having a problem with renders. The rendered video will display a jump in brightness. This happens several frames after the start of the render, but it is random when this will occur....I have tried re-rendering the same movie and the point at which the error happens will change.
This happens regardless of the video codec being used, i have tried it with colour management on and off, and i have tried using 8,16 and 32 bit projects.
I don't use (never had) the open gl settings, so it can't be that.
Any ideas what the hecks going on ? and what to do to solve the problem?
    adam

    yes - i'm using 8.0.2.
Not tried either .avi or targa.
Nt too sure what ou mean by specific set of colour profiles - I tend to set the colour management options to the HD TV set (its not in front of me right now, and can't remember the exact terminology). However, i have also tried it with SD TV and without any colour management switched on at all.
I work exclusively in 10bit uncompressed Pal, but the problem has occured with various codecs including QT animation (with and without alpha),
I have switched off the multiprocessing option, and will give it a try next week when i'm back at work.
    thanks for the suggestions

  • Xinit randomly doesn't start [solved]

Recently I ran into a strange problem with xinit;  unfortunately there's not much I can say about it.  Basically, when I try to start X with xinit/startx, my laptop just hangs on a black screen.  I can't change ttys, magic Alt-SysRec keys don't work.  I am forced to hard reset.  This happens randomly; after a few times, xinit will proceed normally.  Needless to say, this process is tedious and risky (I'm afraid of file system corruption due to the hard reset).  I have nothing to go on to fix or diagnose this problem.  Any ideas?
For what it's worth, some information that may or may not help diagnose the problem.  My .xinitrc:

I'm also seeing the cursor appear, though not always.  Usually it's a black screen, but sometimes the cursor shows up and is responsive for a moment or so before freezing.  This time, I had to try about 5 or 6 times before X would start properly.
Here's my journalctl for one of the failed session; it doesn't seem to show any problems, but I'm shooting in the dark at this point
