Playing 1080p videos on 1.83 macbook with 2GB

Hi there! I need some help here.
I have a imacG5 1.8 with superdrive and an old G3 ibook and i really need to get a new laptop. I can't decide between the 1.83 and the 2.0 macbook. i don't wanna spend more than 1300$ because new core 2 duo intel chips will start coming out and both 1.83 and 2.0 macbooks will soon become obsolete. Besides, the new pro mac's will probably showup at the WWDC at a start price of 2000$ with blasting performance.
I don't need a superdrive on the laptop because i already had one on my imac G5. If i need to backup i simply reboot it in target mode and do my thing.
I saw some benchmarkings and the two machine seemed very similar in performance. One thing that no one had posted was the performance when playing 1080p videos on a 2gb 1.83 macbook.
Can someone confirm if it will play them flawless, and if i'm thinking the right way?
If the 1.83 runs imovie, idvd and 1080p flawlessly, i thing that i should't spend that extra 200$ for a few seconds of performance. I think it should be better to invest on the 2Gb of RAM.
What do you think? Thanks!
Paulo Lemos

Playing 1080i uses approximately 80% of the 1.66GHz Core Duo in my Mac mini (playing full screen on a 1920 x 1200 resolution display) for the most part. There are moments of high speed video that puts it over the edge (I think) and the frame rate momentarily drops from from its optimal. Given that I think a 1.83GHz MacBook should be able to run at optimal frame rates at all time.

  • What frame-rate does your computer play 1080p video?

At what frame-rate do the Intel iMacs play 1080p videos? You can test this by doing a Get-Info while the clip is playing. The info window will show how many fps (frames per second) of video is being displayed.
Here's a link to some video clips, be sure to choose 1080p (not 720p or 480p):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/
    -thanks

My 17" Intel Core Duo 1.83 has no trouble playing the 1080 p at 24 fps, it ranges from 23.5 to 24.5 depending on the scene etc. Processor cores running at 60%.
The lower resolution 1080p (it said 1080p but was 1440 by 1080) Didn't even stutter (stayed at 24 fps) when I opened MS Word in Rosetta mode. Even opening Excel, FireFox, iTunes, and iPhoto at the same time and it dropped to 23 fps for about half a second and rebounded to 25.5 fps before settling back at 24 fps.
The true 1080p (1920x1080) dropped to 18 or 20 fps when other applications were opened. I should point out that these tests were run when the video was still downloading. And in some of the very high speed scenes it would drop to 18 or 20 frames/second for a short time (hardly noticeable). Other applications were running during this time as well. This was the 1080p version of http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/higherground.html
I should point out in 1080p the window is too large to fit on the screen of the 17" monitor. For the test I ran it with the image partially off the screen so it is running at native resolution (however it runs just as fast at any window size). 1080p is 1920 x 1080, so I imagine this is why the 20" is recommended for 1080p. If you have QuickTime Pro you can watch it full screen mode.

  • When i play 1080p video on my new lg tv from my macbook retina late 2013, it stutters.

When i play videos from my ssd from my macbook pro retina it stutters. Mostly it happens with 1080p videos.
Ive read different discussions about this topic and ive already tried to set my tv in cinema mote. This didnt help.
Also i tried to turn off tru motion, this didnt help as well.
Ive also tried different videoplayers but it didnt make a difference.
When i play it on my internal macbook screen it doenst stutter at all. It only happens on my external lg tv screen with hdmi.
Ive tried different hdmi cables as well but this too didnt make a difference.
Ive also heard about different refresh rates but i doent know how i can adjust this on my lg tv (lg46LM760).
Please help the stuttering is very annoying and there is no quick awnser available anywhere on the web. And since this is a common problem with many people the awnser probably helps a lot of people.

Additionally, you can run the Apple Diagnostics test from home, though it would not be as reliable as Apple's in house diagnostics in detecting an issue:

  • Is there any way to play 1080p videos on the iPad with Retina Display without watching in full screen?

When I watch 1080p videos from iTunes on my iPad, they are stretched to fit the whole screen (with black borders) even though there aren't enough pixels in the video. This means that the videos are not crisp as one would expect on a retina display, but slightly blurry, as they are not pixel perfect. Is there any way to make the video smaller? Or does anybody know any 3rd-party apps which can do this?

There isn't as far as I can find - I've had a play around and can't find any way.

  • Can't play xvid video files on my macbook-need help with this

I have tried everything, from Perian installation, to niceplayer, divx player, vlc player, divx and xvid codecs for QT....nothing seems to work, to allow me to play xvid video files....unless I buy a converting software and spend thousands of hours converting videos in order to watch them...which is something that I am not willing to do. Anybody has a solution to this?

have you tried the MPlayerX yet?

  • Safari version 7.0.6 (9537.78.2) won't play html5 videos. (Mavericks on Macbook Pro)

Since upgrading to Safari version 7.0.6 (9537.78.2), html5 videos will no longer play. (Mavericks on Macbook Pro) I get the error message "Please upgrade your browser to view HTML5 content". The only extension I have is ClickToFlash. When I disable it, I get the error message immediately without having to click on the "Flash" button to give it permission to run.

same thing for me... yesterday i started noticing flakey graphics on video playing, then went shopping on Amazon which kept telling me to upgrade my browser, and when I check the link to safari update, I am greeted with I have the latest version of safari.  I checked my Last Yosemite update... it is current.   I rebooted my computer went to bed, and today, nothing on Yahoo, Abc News, youtube will play when it comes to video.   A conspiracy in the making to take down or disrupt all apple users I am sure must be going on.    I say this because I checked another iMac which has been working flawlessly.   And update to flash came in, I did not perform that update.   Videos worked fine.   That update was done and bam... no video playing on that computer either.
I think Apple should release something immediately and stop anymore flash on mac updates to be installed.   Adobe needs to be notified that what ever they have released is killing all apple users who use safari.
ANYONE READING THIS BE AWARE THAT THE LATEST FLASH UPDATE PROMPT WILL KILL YOUR MAC SAFARI AND VIDEO PLAYING ON SAFARI WILL END.   AMAZON and OTHER SITES WILL TELL YOU YOUR BROWSER IS OUT OF DATE, IGNORE THAT BECAUSE I THINK WHO OR WHAT EVER COMPANY IS BEHIND THIS HAS BEEN WORKING INSIDE WITH THOSE COMPANIES ALTERING CODE SO THAT PEOPLE ARE DRIVEN TO START UPDATING SOFTWARE IN HOPES OF SNAGGING THE UPDATE FROM ADOBE THAT CAUSES THINGS TO CEASE WORKING.
TODAY Both IMACS Running YoSemite will not play video and are both crashing with Graphic Hardware errors... 2 iMacs that are 2 years apart on Manufacture date, and both were working flawlessly this past weekend.

  • Ipad 4 can't play 1080p videos

    Hi,
I am using an iPad4 running iOS8.3. I recently discovered that iPad4 cannot play (and not even display) my 1080p video taken using iPhone 6 in the photos app. However, when i used a software to downconvert the above video to 720p, iPad can play it. Next I did another experiment, I then tried to convert the 1080p video from .mov format to .mp4 (DivX) format - same resolution. Similarly it could not be played.
This lead to the strange conclusion my iPad4 cannot play 1080videos in the photos app?
    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Frequent 30 second spinning cursor in MacBook with 2GB RAM?

I currently use a G5 dual processor desktop and a laptop daily. I just switched from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook with 2 GB of RAM. All of them have identical configurations that were copied from one machine to another over Firewire at install time.
After switching from the MacBook Pro, I immediately noticed that it quite often "hangs" for a few seconds with a spinning cursor at strange times. It seems to do this pretty consisently when waking from sleep, but it does it many other times as well.
I've noticed it a lot in Mail but it happens in other applications too.
I've noticed that when it hangs, my Activity Monitor shows that the processors are NOT fully utilized.
From reading the previous posts in the thread "Slow Performance", my experience seems to be different because I have plenty of RAM and can compare it to the same setup on a MacBook Pro but am definitely noticing slowdowns.
Anyone else seeing this kind of "hang" or "delay" with a spinning cursor on their MacBook?
    ~Josh

I think that my problems has been solved by tech support. They reckoned it was a problem with the power management which was resolved by the following....
    Shutdown
restart holding CTRL ALT P & R (To resest NVRAM)
    Shutdown
remove all peripherals, power supply AND battery.
Hold down power button for 15 seconds
Put the battery back in and reboot.
After I did this I ran parralells with windows XP in it which is quite processor intensive and is the thing that will always cause my problem and the fans would kick in as normal at about 60 c, but this time the temperature actuallly went down to 55c and then would fluctuate at 57c +-2c whatever processing I was doing and NO SPINNING beachball.
I have only test for one night but it is the first time that I have used my system without the problem since I have had it (2 weeks).
    I hope this helps someone.

  • App Crashes playing 1080p video

I'm playing a 1080p mp4 via stageWebView.. it launches in the iPad native player and crashes after 1 to 2 seconds of playing.  I've been lucky a few times and it works.
    Thoughts ?

Let's see, would I call DVDO as the HDMI signal is going through their video processor, or ask Panasonic what's up with their 2005-era plasma panel?
If no one else is having this issue, it must be my setup, though I do not experience this when doing the same from my 15" Late 2008 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, which the MBA should run rings around performance-wise.

  • QT streaming .mov plays back video fine, but sound choppy with static

I created some QT streaming files with compressor. 6 bandwidths for same video file. The files themselves play fine. When I click the QT ref movie I made the sound is poppy and has some static. You can view the video here.
    http://services.ltc.arizona.edu/MediaServices/betts/betts6.mov
The problem does happen on more than one workstation, but the files on the server play fine. It's just when streaming. Any thoughts?

    Yep. Pretty horrible.
Why not use some more modern codecs? Currently you're using Sorenson 3 and IMA 4:1 audio, Stereo and at 44.100Hz. No need for stereo in a "talking head" video. No need for an audio track that is only 4 times smaller than the audio found on a CD (4:1 compression).
Use MPEG-4 Video codec and AAC audio. This will shrink the data rate and probably fix your audio issues,

  • HT201177 How can I resolve the HDCP issues when playing 1080p video via HDMI to my HDTV?

Palying back any video (iTunes 1080p purchase, Netflix) via the HDMI port results in screen issues on my HDTV. FLickering, odd noises, etc. I did get a HDCP warning but my TV is HDCP compliant. Any ideas? Thanks.

Shivneet wrote: ... I would like the display for the MacBook to be turned off so I can see video only on my TV. ... Is there any way to achieve this?
    Not that I could find.
The easiest workaround that I could find is a trimmed piece of Black Construction Paper taped over the Mac's display.
Alternatively, you could use an external Mac Compatible Web Cameras and then close the lid, but that is a higher cost option.

I am in the military and currently cannot get a wired connection.  My iPhone has unlimited data and what I would like to do is stream the video I play in Safari on my iPhone to my MacBook screen.  I don't care if the picture is not hd or 100% of my screen, and I do not want the use my hotspot data just my mobile.  Is there any way I can do this?  If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciate.

I just purchased a 13" Mid 2012 MB Pro, first time on YouTube, the videos would not play, google "Adobe Flash", download and install the player and you should be good.

  • Can FCP work on a macbook with 2gb ram?

I have been using it fine with all other functions but when I go to use the multiclip function it says error not enough memory?

I'd guess that the machine just isn't up to the job... There's reasons Apple doesn't support FCP on MacBook, and you're running into one of them.
