Playing a DVD in the computer?

I have version 6.0.3. I put a DVD and can't figure out how to start playing it.
I click on open, and it shows folders, and then says there is no application to "open" it.

Hmm...the only thing I can find in Applications IS the iDVD player.
I'll go back and look again. I don't need to make a DVD, just want to watch one LOL
I'm wondering why it just doesn't automatically load? Why is the icon on the desktop unusable?

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty. That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20) into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If it's a Mac, try Senuti or Music Rescue.

Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and Apple TV while simultaneously using Airplay Mirroring to view the computer screen on the TV? Whenever I try, by clicking on 'computer' radial button for volume in iTunes Airplay, the TV automatically reverts to the Apple TV screen. I usually end up using preferences to 'bring back' the audio to the computert while leaving the picture on the tv, but this means i have to suffer from the inferior sound quality of my Macbook internal speakers.

I had the same issue. This is what I was told to do.
iWork has to be removed completely to be effective when re-installing, you must use an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove every Keynote file.
Appcleaner   will do this and its free.
The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
1 Close Keynote then use Appcleaner
2 Empty the Trash
3 Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, then release shift when the Apple logo appears
          allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual as the hard drive is being repaired
4 restart the Mac
5 Reinstall iWork
6 Repair permissions:
          Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First Aid:   click on your system disc in the drive column
          and select Repair Disk Permissions
7 open Keynote and test

They run from 3 to 32 seconds and then "lock-up" on my iMac.

Macs don't come bundled with iDVD anymore. If you have an older Mac that came with an iLife disk, you can install iDVD from that.
If your Mac didn't come with iDVD, you can still find iLife '11 disks in some stores.
There are other programs that can create DVDs, but I've never used them. From what I've heard, they're not as good as iDVD.

To clarify - I have purchased a physical copy of a movie which came with another physical copy which contains the digital copy. The digital copy is on the DVD, all I need is just to transfer this file to my iPod Touch, for example, I'm not trying to download it from the store or repurchase it and it's not any gift code that I've received, the digital copy is on the disc. This is the first time ever that I've purchased something on a disc and I'm not allowed to access it because the disc hasn't been purchased within my country.
So again - I'm not attempting any purchase or download any purchased digital copy - it's on a DVD I own physically so... why is even the region of my Store relevant, the code I enter is (as I assume) just supposed to check if it's a legal genuine copy (which it is, as I've said - there are 6 discs in the pack: 3 movies on 3 Blu-rays and 3 DVD containing these digital copies of them). If I own it, I think that's proof enough that I have the right to use it. I just don't get it. The fromat of the sonf might be wrong for your iPod. Either update you iPod's software or try changing the format of the song: Go to the location of the song in your computer(Explorer folder) . Click "view", "choose details", and tick the "type" box. Rename the songs that don't work only changing the letters after the ".". Change it to mp3.

Burning DVD crashes the computer !!!

Firs of all I'm just a starter my problem is that when I try to burn DVD my computer crashes and some times wont even power up till ~30min !
I have tried to use different burning programs with no luck even tried to use different DVD writers also no luck I'm starting to get desperate !!!

I'm no PSU expert, but running a Geforce8800 GTX on a PSU with 2x12V lines with 18A on each seems like a bad idea to start with. I wouldn't be surprised if that was related to (or responsible for) your problems. A better PSU (single 12V line with 30+ Amps on it) might solve the entire problem, I think.

What does this have to do with the iPod or iTunes.
Sounds like a Windows, hardware or DVD software issue, nothing to do with Apple.
