Playing a minidisc on a mac mini

How does one play a mini disc on a mac mini?

Many items are coming now with mini discs as software.
Annoying, isn't it? I often find you can download software like this from the manufacturer's website. I tend to check the website when I buy a new piece of hardware anyway, in case there is a more recent software release than the one on the supplied disk.

  • HD Flash Video does not play smoothly on brand new Mac Mini

I just bought a new Apple Mac Mini (2.5GHz model with discrete 256Mb AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics card, OS X 10.7.3). One thing I bought it for was watching HD video on the BBC iPlayer site here in the UK, but I found that it won't play it smoothly. It drops frames, particularly noticable as the camera pans. I'm using Safari and the current 11.1 Flash Player, but I've tried the latest release candidate too (11,2,202,221). The videos are 720p 50Hz, H.264 encoded, 3.2 Mbps, and use 80% - 100% CPU, so it seems to me that I don't have hardware acceleration. Enabling or disabling hardware accleration doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'd like to test it with other HD H.264 Flash videos, but I can't find any. Can anyone point me to some?

Not all video will have full hardware acceleration (stage video) enabled.  Can you try the following link?
    http://youtu.be/SHZFsJKlsuA?hd=1
I just gave this a try with Chrome on my Macbook Pro (15", mid 2010) and Flash used between 8% - 25% cpu, the average being somewhere below 15%.

  • Playing Xmas music remotely through Mac Mini & TV (iTunes? Airplay?)

    Hi --
In anticipation of the holiday season I would like to configure our house to play music throughout various rooms from a central iTunes source. We have a Mac Air with speakers in the kitchen, and an Airport Express in the dining room with speakers attached that also plays the same music from the Mac Air in the kitchen. We have a Mac Mini in the living room hooked up to a Samsung HDTV, and I would like to similarly play the music from the Air on that Mac Mini + TV combination, but can't figure out whether that is possible.
The iTunes on the Mac Mini recognizes the iTunes instance running on the Mac Air, but as far as I can tell that only lets me access the music library on the Mac Air, i.e. it would require separately triggering the iTunes playlist from the living room, rather than centrally from a single iTunes instance. The Mac Mini is connected through Cat5e to our network, and we don't have an Airport Express nearby, else I would pipe the music through the AE.
I would prefer that the music source be iTunes on a Mac Air in the kitchen, but could probably make a centralized iOS app work instead if needed. Either way, is it possible to use this Mini + TV set up as a music receiver, playing music through the TV speakers? E.g. make a Mini behave like a set of remote speakers? Or an Airplay client?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ramon
P.S. Please let me know if this post is better suited to another forum -- given the mix of technologies at work I wasn't sure where to start...

iTunes itself does not act as an AirPlay receiver only a transmitter. There is at least one hack to make a Mac act like an AirPort Express i.e. an AirPlay receiver and this is called ShairPort (or MacShairPort for the Mac version).
The official and easy solution would be to get another Apple AirPort Express or an Apple TV2 and set it up as a second destination. Or if your wanting to go all the way, get several Sonos ZonePlayers as that is the Rolls Royce solution for doing a multiroom audio setup.

  • Playing 3d blu ray on Mac mini

    Hi,
In addition to my other question submitted earlier, can anyone tell me if there is any way of watching 3D blu ray movies on my Mac mini? I have it connected by HDMI to a 3D TV and have an external blu ray writer capable of playing 3D discs. Is there a bit if software which will allow this?
    Thanks

There is now software to play Blu-Ray discs on a Mac, there is even one package which claims to support using the menu on a Blu-Ray. (The others still do not support this.)
    See http://www.dvdfab.cn/mac-blu-ray-player.htm
There is still confusion and conflicting answers as to whether playing some of the sound formats of Blu-Ray like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD is supported. While the Mac hardware supports this officially Apple do not support it in OS X, it could be they are managing to pass-thru these formats via the HDMI unaltered, or it could be they are in real time down-converting them to DVD equivalent levels e.g. Dolby Pro and Dolby DTS.
However none of them as far as I am aware support 3D playback as this is down to the Mac hardware not supporting this.
Sadly Apple and the iTunes Store have fallen well behind in these areas, while Apple eventually started offering 1080p resolution videos, others like NetFlix are already offering 4K. Even in the content creation area - supposedly one of Apple's great strengths they still don't support H.265 aka. HEVC in FinalCut Pro X. It seems farcical that Apple built the new Mac Pro almost specifically for doing 4K video editing and yet they don't support the primary format that people are using to distribute 4K content.

  • Unable to play any region dvd on mac mini

My Mac Mini stopped playing all types of DVD's. A few seconds after placing a DVD it gets ejected and I get a "Supported disc not found" message. What can I do?

I have tried the following with no improvement:
    1. reset parameter RAM
    2. repair permissions
    3. repair boot disk
    4. reset SMC
    5. boot into safe mode
    6. boot into diagnostic mode and run HW diagnostic
    7. create a new user account and log in as the new user
    8. upgrade the OS to 10.9.3
    9. reinstall the OS from the recovery partition

  • Problems playing dvds on my new mac mini

I'm trying to play a dvd on my new mac mini & whenever I hit the play button I get error: -70025. I've checked the disc for scratches etc... but all seems fine there. Does anyone know what that error is about or have any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

All i can think of is running a cleaning disk in your Mini's drive. I'd be surprised if the mini needed cleaning since it's so new but you never know. Another question that comes to mind is if that particular DVD has some copy protection that prevents it from being played in computers. Some music CDs have that type of protection.

  • TS1389 How can I make a song automatically play when I turn my Mac Mini?

I want for my computer to play a song automatically when I turn my computer on. Is this possible?

As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolder/Page.js
Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.

  • Mac mini and plasma

    Hi
I just purchased a plasma tv and was wondering about getting a mac mini to connect to the display to surf/play downloads.
However the mac mini would be hidden in a cupboard. Is there an RF keyboard/mouse available?
    Thanks
    [email protected]

Aside from Apple's own Bluetooth keyboard and mouse which will work fine through a cupboard door, almost any cordless keyboards and mice that work off a USB 'dongle' will work perfectly well too - even models such as the Logitech S510 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2162,CONTENTID=107 10) which are specified for Windows rather than Mac use. Some special function keys on such keyboards often don't work on Macs, but the keyboard and F keys, and the mice, mouse buttons and scroll wheels do.

  • Aiplay from Mac Mini to AppleTV with simultaneous audio on both

I just installed an AppleTV (2013) to my HDTV with Bose speakers connected to the TV.  I can mirror my Mac Mini to the Apple TV and play Pandora music from my Mac Mini on Apple TV, but to do so I am using the Settings/Sound/AppleTV on my Mac Mini to play audio over the AppleTV.  I have not been able to play Pandora simultaneously over both the Mac Mini speakers and the AppleTV speakers.  The AppleTV is connected to the router by Ethernet. My desire is to play Pandora (and other audio sources) simultaneously over both the Mac Mini and AppleTV.

I can play audio on both the Mac Mini and Apple TV simultaneously by using ITunes and the Airplay icon from within ITunes.  In ITunes, I select the Airplay icon and choose "mulitiple" and select both "computer" and "Apple TV" and have volume controls for both and each indiviudally.  It works, so the devices are connected and Ethernet is not the issue.  Is there a way outside of ITunes to play audio over both Mac Mini speakers and Apple TV speakers?

  • Mac mini server as a media server

Hi guys, my first time on this forum. Just purchased a mac mini server with dual HDDs. never used a server before. Have hooked it into a small home network.
    1. Want to store iTunes music and videos on the server so that macs on the network can use the server to independently play music via the toslink mac mini output to a DAC, etc. Want also to play videos in the same fashion via the HDMI into a receiver.
    2. Use Time Machine to back up to the mac mini server, but it appears to only allow backup to one HDD which is not sufficient capacity. Have hooked up another 500MB portable HDD via firewire to the mac mini, but not sure of the best way to configure it - back up one computer to it? How? or maybe use it to store the media and back up to both HDDs? How?
As you can no doubt tell I am a novice, but would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Create a new user, and import the music into his itunes. Enable sharing in the itunes preference pane. From then you will see the <username> playlist show up on other Macs looking for shared libraries (this must also be checked on them). Have this user auto login, and add iTunes as a login item (accounts preference pane) so it starts when the Mac boots. This way, you can listen to music from other Macs, or choose via an iPhone. I also use Front Row with an Apple remote control.
Not really sure why you can use the second drive for Time Machine. I use FileSync 2.2 to just copy the iTunes folder over and keep it synced, as I don't really need a full backup.
Log in as an admin, go to the Server Preferences and turn off any services you're not using.

  • Initiating airplay from Mac Mini to AppleTV causes router to crash

    Hi,
I have an AppleTV (new) and a Mac Mini (new), both purchased in the last few months.  When I try to initate Airplay from my Mac Mini it crashes the network.  Every device on the network loses internet.  This can only be resolved by rebooting the router.  I have tried this several times, but still no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Mac Mini, HDMI, iTunes Store HD content and HDCP

I have a few seasons of purchased HD TV shows, which of course require a HDCP-compliant display. With the following setup, I can not at present play these shows in HD:
    - Mac Mini (2010 with HDMI)
    - Monster HDMI cable
    - Sony KDS-50A2020 TV
This would leave me to believe that either the cable, the TV, or both are noncompliant.
The funny thing is, the same TV and cable worked with Blu-ray Discs on a PS3. If the PS3 required HDCP compliance to play BDs - which the internet seems to suggest - then that should prove that the cable and TV are in fact compliant.
In either case, aside from replacing the cable and or TV, is there a way to tell what iTunes doesn't like about my setup?

So is iTunes giving you that warning message that you need to use an HDCP compliant monitor?

  • My mac mini loses connection with my receiver after turning off the receiver then back on

My Mac Mini loses connection with my Onkyo receiver NR-609 after turning off the receiver then back on.  The only way to reistablish the connection is to unplug then replug the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini.  There's no effect if I unplug then replug the HDMI to the receiver.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  I've searched a lot but haven't found much of anything so if this is covered elsewhere I would greatly appreciate a link.
    Thanks in advance

Hi and thanks.  I don't know about the audio prefs.  When it happens I am not able to see or hear anything from the computer until I un/re-plug the HDMI to the Mini.  I'm not sure it's changing to something else because there's nothing else connected for it to change to.  I could see that perhaps the audio will change to the Mac Mini's internal speaker.
I found out last night that if, after I lose the signal,  I use my ipad to play a video on the Mac Mini using the Remote app and home sharing the signal gets righted and I can see/hear the computer again.  It's quite an inconvenient fix though and I wish and hope someone here can help me.
