Playing a song without importing it

I often find myself with MP3 files, or other sound files that I want to sample but don't necessarily want logged into iTunes. How can I set iTunes to only accept an import when I tell it?

You can't. However, you can play the file using the Quicktime player itself. Nothing will be added to iTunes.

Flash CS6 can't open play SWF files without importing and destroying them, how can I get around this?
I'm just trying to preview an swf file in flash like I have with all previous versions.

What if my SWF loads external content from an online server?
Not only does the current flash player prohibit such activity, it doesn't even pop open an error anymore saying there was an error connecting to an online source.
Normally, I would simply drag the SWF into Flash and all connections would go through.  I could see traces, errors, and experience no issues.
Now I can't even do that.  So what then?  You have crippled a fundamental use of the program, but THANK GOD we have that deco brush that nobody asked for.
And for the record, the nature of my work benefits from not necessarily allowing the Flash Player to connect to online content.  The error it pops up?  That's simply another method of error checking that I require.  Updating the Flash Player options is not an option.
Why would you even remove this key feature from Flash anyways?  It's been there for years ... has the ratio of people importing SWFs (a rather useless gesture in an increasing OOP world) really outweighed the people using Flash as a testing environment that much?

  • How to Play One Song Without Repeat?

I am a new Ipod user, with an 80 GB video version. (I don't think it's one of the latest new models, but the second to last generation. Is that "fifth generation"?)I updated it with the latest firmware, just a few days ago.
I have used other MP3 players before though. In most respects I find the Ipod superior to the other MP3 players I have used. However, there is one setting, that I have made before on other MP3 players, for instance my old Creative Muvo 4GB (a few years old), which I cannot figure out how to set on my Ipod.
How does one set the Ipod to play one song, without going on to the next one, and without repeating that one? The default (of course) is to play all the songs in the album or playlist, going on to the next one, when the current song is finished. Looking in Settings, I find one can set "Repeat" to repeat the whole playlist or album when one comes to the end of it, or set it to repeat the same song.
But---what if one wants to play one song, and then have the Ipod stop (or at least pause), and not automatically go on to the next song, or repeat the same song? Is it possible to set that? I cannot see how. If there is a way to do that, please let me know.
Some might ask--why would one want to do that? True, for normal use, the default setting is the best one, going on to the next song, as when one listens to a CD. But, there are cases where one might want the Ipod to play one song and stop. I'll explain my reason for wanting to make that setting--I am an elementary school music teacher. In my concerts with the children this upcoming week, I will put the musical accompaniments for my choirs on the Ipod, and play them from it. When the choir is performing a song, at the end of the song, I don't want the Ipod to start playing the next song on the list. I want it to stop or pause at the end. It will be a hassle for me to have to manually stop it at the right moment, and I might miss it, and it will start playing the next song.
Any way to set it to play one song, and then stop? If so, please tell me.
If not, I would hope that Apple would add that capability to the next firmware upgrade. Do they read here for user's suggestions? Is there another place to make suggestions for improvement in the Ipod firmware?
    Thank you for your input.

Thank you for the reply, Chris.
I thought of that idea, a separate playlist for each song. That would be fine, if I was only playing one song. But I want to have the list of songs ready to play, so was going to put them in a playlist together. I need to be able to get to the next song quickly, without a lot of messing around with the Ipod.
Is it possible to put playlists within playlists? Then, perhaps I could make an individual playlist for each song, and make a playlist with all those one-song playlists together. If that is possible, it probably still would make it too complicated to go to the next song, probably having to use the menu button to go back to the higher playlist, etc. I want to keep playback simple.
I may try your idea of creating a blank "song" to put between tracks. (Is there also no way currently otherwise, to put a certain amount of empty space in between tracks?)
Thanks also for the feedback link. I will send this concern to Apple, and hope they add that capability soon.

  • Having troubles playing back songs from imported CD

Ok, I imported a CD using the the button on the top righ corner. It seemed to go very fast, which I found odd. Now I go to play the songs that I imported, and it just cycles through them. It does not play them, It just goes from one to the next. The CD works fine in my car, so that is not the problem. I also burned this CD from iTunes not too long ago, so it should be the right format. I'm stumped.

Anytime iTunes starts skipping songs like the way you have explained means either the file is corrupt or in a format it can't understand. If the files are MP3's you can try playing them in Windows Media Player. If media player can play them from start to end, then iTunes has some issue with them. I say play them from start to end cuz I had a problem with iTunes skipping songs and would play in Windows Media, but when Media player got to the end of the song, it sounded all weird and poppy with a mix of some other song I never heard. thats when I knew the file was corrupt and that was the reason iTunes wouldn't touch it

  • My music app shows it's still playing a song but it's playing next song without finishing the last song.

Since I had my iPhone 5S (I now have a 6 plus), I've had a problem with my iPhone Music app showing that it's playing certain songs but towards the end, it jumps to the next track, but without finishing the one it was playing. The music bar doesn't change - it shows as if it was still playing the former song. It happens randomly with certain songs and it appears all my playlists have been affected by this. I've restored the phone and restored both an iCloud backup (to rule out software issues that iTunes is copying over into the phone) and an iTunes restore from backup. I've also deleted entire albums and redownloaded them right onto the phone, hitting the exact same snag. I've also restored the phone and started it as a new install and hit the exact same snag. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK. Since no one replied I restored my Nano 2. It still does this. Can anyone say theirs doesn't? Stop the music halfway or anyplace inside a track. Let the iPod rest for a few hours. Hit Play again. You see the song you were on and the place where you were. It is in Pause mode. Hit Play again to continue the song. At this point mine skips to the beginning of the next track. If I left click the wheel, it skips over the previous to the one before that.
This does not happen with my 80G Video iPod. It holds it's place and the music continues.
This is an 8G black Nano.

  • Itunes plays first song of imported cd

How can I stop itunes from playing the first song off of every cd I import. It's really freaking annoying. Thanks.

How can I stop itunes from playing the first song off
of every cd I import. It's really freaking annoying.
    Thanks.
I asked a related question a few weeks ago and got no replies. In my case I am using the DOS command line (actually a shell "exec" inside an installer) to "import" files into iTunes, and the last song imported always plays, even though I explicitly set the Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing option to DISable this feature!
(The music was not imported from the iTunes Store, so that is not the problem. I copied the files originally from a CD I own onto my hard drive, and from there the installer is importing them into iTunes.)
I was wondering if you (or another reader of this thread) might have any relevant information to share with me.
    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Continuous play between songs without a pause between tracks

I have a lot of "mixed" cds which I have uploaded into my ipod. The cd's feature many songs mixed together into one continuous flow. Each track is marked (1-?) so you may select a specific song instead of their only being one long track. The problem is that when uploaded into my itunes (and ipod), when the cd is played, there is a pause between the tracks (like on normal cds) which obviously breaks the flow of the music. Is there any way around this?

One other option that I've begun using to separate tracks in a cd with songs that flow from one to the next (Dream Theater anyone?) yet retain the artists vision is to use Apple's Chapter Tool and use this in conjunction with a tool like Scriptbuilder's . "Podcastenhancer". (There are other utilities but this is the one I personally use.)
What this does is allow you to rip the cd with all tracks joined and then add "Chapters" to the file to indicate where each track should start. Created for use in building podcasts (like the iTunes New Music Tuesday podcast) where you want the content broken up, the combination of these tools will help you separate your songs and add album artwork at the same time. What you end up with is one long continuous song file with the ability to jump from track to track on your iPod and select the appropriate "song" in iTunes from the chapter list that appears when the file is played.

  • [All Platforms][Your Music] Play saved songs without album songs

Sometimes I want to listen to albums, but sometimes I want to list to singles that perhaps I've shazam'd or come across by another method.  In this case, I don't want album songs to interfere.  I think listening to an album is a completely different experience to listening to a set of singles or songs.   Singles are generally upbeat, help me get stuff done.  Albums are generally for long-drawn out moodiness when I'm trying to relax or concentrate. 'Your music/songs' seems to be the ideal place for this, and then perhaps a new option, 'All saved tracks' if you want album songs and single songs combined.

    Updated: 2015-07-21Hi!
Just to make sure that we get your request right: you would like to have a filter in 'Your Music' to only play songs that are Singles? With "album songs" you mean songs that haven't been published as Singles?

  • Automatic Play of Song When Importing Using Double Click

In previous versions of iTunes, I was able to double click a mp3 file on my desktop, have it copied into my iTunes library, and play automatically. Now, in iTunes 8, the file copies but does not play automatically. Is there a way to re-enable this feature? It is really frustrating because sometimes when I copy the file into the library, it doesn't get selected and I have to look around for it in order to play it. Thanks!

Your tracks have track numbers I hope? If so clicking on header of the Album column until it reads *Album by Artist* should sort you out...

  • How can I copy a music CD to a blank CD on my iMac without importing the songs into my itunes?

So far the solutions I have seen suggest to import the songs into iTunes, create a playlist, and then burn this playlist to a blank CD.
However, I don't want these songs in my playlist. My mother-in-law asked me to make a copy for her and it is her type of music which i don't want in my iTunes.
Is there any way I can copy these songs without importing them first?
    Thanks!

No, unless you use the copy function in Roxio Toast.
You could try via Disk Utility but you may be thwarted by copy protection.
Of course, there is nothing to stop you deleting those tracks from iTunes after you have made the copy!

  • ?? how to play one song only without auto advance

  • Not Playing/Previewing Songs On Desktop

I used to be able to have a song on my desktop, after it was downloaded or just moved there, to be able to play the whole song on the desktop without opening up itunes. I would simply scroll over the song on the dektop and a Play icon would appear and all I would have to do was click on that and the song would play on the desktop without being opened up in itunes. Within the past several weeks, I noticed that this no longer happens. I didn't change any settings and I don't know how to change it back to the way it was. It was very convenient to be able to do this to quickly play the song without adding it to the library before deciding whether or not to keep the song. I haven't been able to find any settings to change this at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well yes it does play that way, I can use it that way, just trying to figure out how to get it back to the way it was. Maybe its the OCD in me kicking in. Thank you for the reply.

  • My iPhone 4 no longer plays some songs since iOS5 update, how can i get these songs playing again

So ever since I installed iOS5 onto my iPhone 4, some of my music wont play (not all, but some), what will happen is, while on shuffle, my music will play a song normally, then get to a song that it for some reason cannot play and either
    a) plays another song, without changing the information about the song, then when the second song is finished playing under the first song's name, it gets to the second song's actual information and stops playing and moves to option b
    b) does not play the song, does not skip the song, but has the play icon in the corner next to the battery, but it doesn't show any time going by on the progress bar of the song, but drains my battery
when i shake my iPhone after this (i.e. activates the automatic shuffle) if it happens to land on a song it can play, it skips to the next song.
It is incredibly inconvienient, and i understand that a new operating systems do have bugs, but I would like to be able to fix it as soon as possible
    thanks for the help

I found a solution recently, (and well, this is the only apple product I own, so i didn't think to post it) basically what you do is follows
when your iphone is plugged in and you have itunes open, go to the phone page, then to the music page, select sync with library, but then select certain playlists. After that select none of the playlists (removing the music from your phone) and sync, then sync again with the playlists you want selected, and voila! Takes an hour or 2, but you can do it in the background of whatever else you are doing.
    Cheers

  • Is there continuous play of a song while importing cd's iTunes?

I would like to know if there is a feature for, once the songs you are importing from a cd, when you play a song from the cd itself, if you hit the eject button while the song is playing, the song continues to play without delay. If there isn't, this sure would be a nice feature. Sometimes I'll listen to a song on a cd while it is importing the album. Once the album is imported, I would like to eject it and input another cd, but that usually means the song I am listening to will stop playing. Then I have to go into recently added songs to hear that song again while loading up another cd.

I figured that. I just thought there would be, like a buffer, that held the song in memory so there wouldn't be a drop. Thanks.

  • Import Folder With Songs Without Show Them In Albums

    Good day to you all
I have 2 qustions i would like to ask ( sorry about my english)
    1. I have a folder i made on my desktop with many songs from lots of artists. i want to make a playlist with all of this songs. i can drag all of them to the playlist i made but i don't want them to show in the albums or artists view. is there a way to do it ? i can change the info of the songs to have the same album name and VA artists name so i have only one album but i can only do this in itunes and i don't want to import the folder the itunes beacuse i don't want to have a mess.
    2. when i play a song i have on my desktop it's automaticly had the song to itunes album and artist view - is there a way to disable it?
    thanks

    1) The moment you import the songs in iTunes, they will show up in album or artist view, no way to get around that. Why would you want that?
" i don't want to import the folder the itunes beacuse i don't want to have a mess."
You won't make a mess if you do it like this:
    - make a new playlist, name it.
    - open your folder on your desktop in a finder window, and select all songs (command + A)
    - drag these songs into this playlist, iTunes will add them to your library.
    - in iTunes, rename the appropriate ID3 tags by selecting what belongs together (as I understand, everything, so again command + A), Get Info (Command + I ) or rightclick, edit the ID3tags, and press enter.
    2) This is default normal behaviour. If a song is playable with iTunes, it will automatically launch iTunes when you double click it, and imported into your library.
If you do not want this, you want to open a song with another application, you can change the default app.
In the finder select a song from your folder, Get Info (command + I)
    There you have:
    Open with: iTunes (default)
Use the arrows to select another app to open it with
    and then press "Change All"
From now on your music files will open in this other app by default if you click them.
(Note: you have to repeat this process for each different file format extentions, like mp3, AAC, wav, ...)
If you don't want that either, you just want to temporarily listen without importing them, you can always use the preview function, by selecting the file, and hitting the spacebar. This will open the file in a preview mode.
With the arrows up or down you can go immediately to the previous or the next file without leaving preview mode.
    Hope that helps, good luck.
