  • Troubleshoot video out on new iMac

I'm trying to connect a mid-2011 iMac to my TV. I have a MDP/HDMI dongle and an HDMI cable. I hook everything up and the iMac doesn't detect the TV as a display. I checked the cables and rebooted the iMac. Anything else to check?
I've done video out with older iMacs (pre-MDP) and never had a problem. I have no way of knowing if it is a cable or a port problem.
The MDP (actually Thunderbolt) port seems loose. Is this just the nature of the port?

Try connecting the cable and adapter only to the TV and turn on the TV. Then hot connect the adapter to the iMac. If the iMac still cannot read the EDID from the TV I would call Apple about warranty repair/replacement.

  • Can't I play a video CD on my  iMac?

    Hello there,
I had recently purchased a new video CD [it was manufactured in October 2002] and found out that my Mac is unable to play this video.
    The video format is:
How can I, or, can I, get to view this CD on Mac?

Thanks for chipping in! I had thought that this thread had stopped, but...your entry has 'allowed me' the opportunity to learn more!
Actually, I myself was not satisfied at the quality at which the video CD was playing in the VLC player on my Mac. In fact I felt that the quality of video CD which I had watched on a small and even cheap DVD player I have was of a superior quality.
I shall try out what you have suggested but have this apprehension and this doubt: my apprehension is that the CD would be a protected one which I would'nt be able to copy; and my doubt is this...how or what app should I use to copy the video CD onto a drive?

  • Getting the most out of my iMac G5 2.0 GHz

    Hi everyone!
I have an iMac G5 (ALS) 2.0GHz, 1GB SDRAM, 160GB Hard drive which is running on OS 10.5.8.
It's fully for my one use, and just as an extra; but I was just wondering if any of you had some advice for getting the most out of my PowerPC Mac. (Appart from increasing my RAM-memory, I know 1GB isn't much.)
    Thanks!
    Gijs

Other than upgrading the hardware (you could also uprade to a larger faster hard drive or even SSD)...
For YouTube (and other web sites that use Flash-based video), install ClickToPlugin Safari extension
    http://hoyois.github.com/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/
In YouTube, with Safari and ClickToPlugin, HTML5-based version of the video (which is there mostly for mobile devices like iPhone and iPad) often gets played instead of the Flash-based version.  HTML5 video is more efficient, especially on PowerPC Macs.  On my Power Mac G5, playback is noticeable better with the HTML5 content (compared to Flash).  Also, ClickToPlugin prevents Flash-based ads on the same web page from loading, taking more load off the aging G5 processor.
Create a new user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.  Log out and log in to the new user account (do not use Fast User Switching).  Do the things you normally to on your iMac using the new user account.  If things seem to run better in the new account, you should investigate what is happening in your normal user account.  You may have background processes (that start up automatically when you log in) which may or may not be necessary.  These may come from apps you have installed over time, which you may no longer use regularly.

  • How do i get the dust out of my imac

how do i get the dust out from the inside of my mac, it get hot?

If I hadn't done this regularly (once a year) I think it would be appropriate to vacuum the machine from ALL enrty ports first.I've put compressed air (from my compressor) into all the openings of my several iMacs without consequence. My compressor has a regulator on it and I keep the PSI at about 60.  I start with the slot at the top rear of the machine, move to the A/C hole, then the several ports (USB, Headphone, Firewire, etc.) I also blow into the Superdrive slot. Then I Vacuum the memory slot area thoroughly with the memory modules removed. Earlier this spring I actually took the iMac apart and noticed that the fans get a dust buildup inside the impellors themselves. I don't think you could dislodge the buildup without air directed at them in close proximity

  • Why in the world is the most current version of firefox AND flash having TONS of problems playing hulu videos? either chewing the crap out of my processor but playing ok, or chewing the crap out of my processor and not even playing video at all?

used to be firefox and hulu got along just fine, never had my computer get retarded slow or any of the other things its currently doing while there's a tab open with hulu... but here lately its been eating the snot outta my processor (between firefox.exe and plugin container the two are consistently using 100% of my processor... most of it being firefox.exe itself)
and tonight i cant watch hulu at all. the video shows a frame then its another 10-15 seconds before another single frame is showed.
my firefox is the most current version.
my adobe flash player plugin is the most current version.
there's no reason this should be happening but it is happening and its friggin annoying
    ============================
this happens anytime i'm in the part of hulu that has the player for showing whatever episode i'm attempting to watch. when i attempt to watch hulu i have no other tabs open and no other excess programs running on my computer, and firefox+plugincontainer run my CPU to 100% just between those two processes. i can browse around the internet just fine (like checking my email, or even getting to my queue list on hulu, which i have my homepage set as.. the queue list loads fine but the player part of hulu is when things go to crap)
and i just tried the exact same episode of lie to me that i couldnt watch on firefox.... tried watching it on internet explorer and its playing perfextly fine EVEN WHILE FIREFOX IS OPEN.
firefox is my preferred browser and i hope this junk can be fixed somehow.

  • Using the video out on an iMac...

Can you disable the iMac's monitor?  I have the iMac connected to my TV, but I only want to use the TV as a monitor.  It looks weird having the TV and the iMac showing the same thing, and I'd rather turn off the iMac display.

Is this for the iMac in your signature?  Because if it is, you are asking about an Intel iMac, not a PPC iMac.  The Intel iMacs have the option of extended desktop which lets you put anything you want on a second display.  Just go Apple menu -> System preferences -> Displays and uncheck Display mirroring.  This way, your iMac's display can have a wallpaper of your choice, where the attached TV can be its own thing.

  • Video out from G3 iMac

I have a G3 iMac that I would like to donate to my church to use to run their Powerpoint slides.
How can I get some kind of composite video output? I see not suitable ports.

It's not clear but since you're running Tiger I feeling this is at least a Slot Loader < 350 MHz.
Are you sure that the projector won't accept VGA imputs. If your iMac is one that has the VGA port that would be the way to do it.
The problem I've had lately is the refresh rate. Some of the older projectors only took 60Hz.

  • Play my video in iTunes from iMac into HDMI HDTV

I am trying to display my own video on a HDTV from iTunes on my iMac. Trying to output through thunderport w/ mini displayport to HDMI cable.
    Thanx in advance

So far so good. It sounds like you have the correct hardware and adapters to connect to your TV.
Open the System Preferences and click on the Displays settings. If you are trying to display the same image on both the iMac and your TV then click on the 'Arrangement' tab within the display preferance pane, and then check the 'Mirror Displays' check box.
If you are experiencing problems with your setup then please let us know that is not working correctly. Are you seeing anything on your HDTV? Does the Display preference pane show that both your iMac and HDTV displays are recognized?

  • Getting the most out of my iMac G5

I have several multimedia programs on my computer, such as CS2 suite, After Effects 7.0 and Professional Flash. I would like my computer to run at optimal speed. I have installed 2 gigs of memory. What else can I do? Should I place all my pictures from iPhoto to my Lacie, etc. I do have iTunes. Thanks
    BC
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can transfer your pictures to your external, you can also maintain your computer by clearing the caches regularly and making sure the cron tasks are run daily, weekly and monthly. Optimising your drive is not something that needs to be done any more.
OnyX and MainMenu are two good maintenance programs.
Other than that, your machine should be ok and your speeds should be good.

  • IPod Touch video out to Composite "Hard Starting"!

Did you ever own a car that was a beast to start on a cold winter morning?
Well, same thing with my iPod Touch 4 to a composite video display.  I connect it, then go to YouTube to play a video or into my Movies folder to play one of my own.
I press play, and one of the following happens:
    1.  Video & Audio continue to play through iPod Touch(most common).
    2. Audio only plays through TV speakers.
    3. Video only through TV, audio via iPod Touch Speakers.
Sometimes it works only after I power down and power up the Touch.
Why does playing a video out to an external display have to be like starting an old car - multiple attempts??

My iPod touch 4gen video out does work - but rarely on the first try.  And I always make sure to have it connected before bringing up the YouTube or personal video I want to show.
As for my wife's iPhone 4, I was updating the OS and noticed that one of the update items included "Video Out".
Is video out not standard on iPhones as it is on Touches?

  • Timed video out through firewire?

    Hey everyone,
In Final Cut Pro 5, is there a way to set print to video on a timer? For example, print to video on Friday at 2PM.... Or simply, just play the entire video in the timeline at a specific time?
I'm assuming not, so does anyone know of any program out there that can play Quicktime videos out through Firewire on some kind of timer system?
I know this is an unusual request... and I can explain why exactly I want this if anybody wants me to, but it's kind of a long story =)
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    Dean.

You can easily set up an Automator script to work with an iCal event...
use the script for PLAY MOVIE instead of record new video that I used here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/QTAuto.swf
The video was done in haste... and there are a few errors in it... but you'll get an idea of what to do.
    Good luck,

  • FF wont play certain videos in websites

FF wont play certain video formats
I have FF "4.4.10" but when browsing some websites it will not play the video, instead displays messages: 'Plugins are req'd to display media on this page',
'FLASH OR HTML5 browser req for video playback' !!!! yet they play perfectly in Chrome no messing.
This happens on both a WinXP (FF v16) and a Win7 laptop.
A recent example video that wont play: http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/29152-gopro-launches-its-hero3-cameras.
I read FLASH is highly discredited, so dont want to install it.
I thought FF was supposed to play HTLM5 videos 'out of the box' without need of 'Addons' ?
what do I need to do to play the above video ?
(I then want to save the video using the VideoDownloader addon installed)

Google Chrome comes with its own version of the Flash plugin.<br />
Firefox needs its own Flash plugin, so make sure that the Flash plugin for Firefox is installed.
Do you have the Flash plugin installed and does the test site confirm that the plugin works?

You may need to run the Flash installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as -> Administrator).

  • Play iTunes video through large screen off a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5

I want to play iTunes videos out through my cpu onto a large screen format. Does not have to be HDTV, any screen will do. I own a digital firewire camera if that would help. Is there a compostie video out on my CPU? Some method to convert it to composite or component video? What about using something from Canopus to convert the signal? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

A replacement card MUST be Mac specific unless you have the know how to hack the ROM to a Mac ROM (flash in a PC first).
