Playing any region DVD

Hi All
At the moment I have a range of region one and region two dvds. I am going on vacation in a few days and would like to be able to play both my region one and region two dvd's on my iBook G4.
Is there any application that you can install onto MAC OS X that enables me to play any region DVD, without having to change the settings on the DVD drive as you are restricted to the number of times yuo can do this before it sticks with the last setting?
Or, is there anyway around this?

Be very very careful; if you make any changes to the firmware of your DVD/CD drive there is the potential to make it inoperable.

Unable to play any region dvd on mac mini

My Mac Mini stopped playing all types of DVD's. A few seconds after placing a DVD it gets ejected and I get a "Supported disc not found" message. What can I do?

I have tried the following with no improvement:
1. reset parameter RAM
2. repair permissions
3. repair boot disk
4. reset SMC
5. boot into safe mode
6. boot into diagnostic mode and run HW diagnostic
7. create a new user account and log in as the new user
8. upgrade the OS to 10.9.3
9. reinstall the OS from the recovery partition

My disk drive does not play any original dvd or cd anymore, but the copies work fine, no matter which format. Do I need a new disk drive?

since last week my disk drive does not play any original DVD or CD anymore, but copied ones, no matter which format work fine. I am a bit confused that the copied ones still work.
Anybody experienced the same? Will I have to get a new disk drive? Unfortunately the warranty expired last month

help!! i installed itunes 7.1.1 and now i can't play any CD/DVD, even the data ones. what should i do?? when i run CD diagnostics it shows up like this:

i find it a bit difficult to track down info for the ASUS motherboards at ASUSTek. so perhaps try using their ASUS Navigation utility to determine if there are any BIOS or chipset driver upgrades available for that model. here's a link through to their download site for the utility:

if you still get the bad behavior from CD/DVD drives after doing any updates indicated at Asus, let's check on your other componentry too.

I've have update the toshiba hd dvd, the broadcom decoder, video and sound card drivers to the latest ones but so far nothing happened.

Ah.. now I had the exact problem with my a205-s6808 satellite. The problem is with the Broadcom decoder, remember it is only optional to install it. So, Uninstall the Broadcom Decoder and restore your HD-DVD player black to the version that came on the disc (I believe it is version 4.33). Now once you have restarted your laptop Windows will ask you to install a 'Multimedia Controller', do not install this driver.
This worked for me, I hope it does for you. Tell me how it goes.

Can VLC Plays All Region DVDs In Macbook?

I am in India and here most dvds are region free or region 0. I remember changing the macbook dvd player to 5 or something but now I want to purchase Lost Season 1 From Ebay US.
Instead of using apple's dvd player can i use VLC on macbook? If I set the dvd player to region 1, will it play those region free dvds.

It seems like a hit or miss situation. It really depends on the drive and firmware. Regardless it's worth a shot since VLC is worthwhile to have anyway.

I have a mac book pro and it does not support any cd/dvd. Some time it runs dvd but only voice not video, dont know what to do or how to resolve this issue. I am out of warranty.

You really shouldn't have to use any special driver to use an external drive - that Western Digital makes it (it seems) a necessity just makes me hate WD drives even more. Over the decades, I've had nothing but problems with WD drives and I no longer purchase them.
If I were you, I would simply ditch the WD drive (if it won't mount without using a special driver) and purchase another brand. I can recommend LaCie (using Seagate drive), and G-TECH and HGST (Hitachi) drives.

Does the Ti400 play any burned DVD's?

I am borrowing backups from a friend at work of 2 movies, and when I put them in my Ti400, nothing happens. Is it just the format, or is it old enough that nothing burned works?

Hi, James. It's hard to say. The problem could be the media: your drive definitely can't read any +r or +rw media. It may not be able to read any -rw media, and it may have trouble with -r media that is rated for speeds higher than 1x or 2x. Or it may have trouble only with certain brands. Or it may have trouble with higher-speed media, but only if it was actually burned at a higher speed.
It would probably take some pretty tedious experimentation — in which you'd need your friend's collaboration — to figure out exactly what your drive's capabilities really are, since the manufacturers of these drives aren't very forthcoming with detailed information of that kind. But a simple, basic test you might try is to have your friend burn you something on a 1x or 2x DVD-R disc at 1x burn speed, and see whether that plays. If it does, you may want to go on to further testing. If it doesn't, you'll probably want to buy an external drive to play DVDs on your Powerbook, or else just watch them on a TV set.

I have been using VLC on my Mac. Sometimes it works and sometimes not... I wish i could figure out why it doesn't always work.
I have DVDs which are legally purchased from England and Australia because those were the only copies of shows that i liked. Some work, some don't.
Has anyone figured out a good solution to the problem without messing with your drive?

DVD Drive will not play ANY movies

I seem to have the standard drive for the 15 inch MacBook Pro (bought less than one year ago), but it simply will not play ANY movie DVD I've tried. It whirrs and whirrs but nothing happens. I've tried multiple movies and none have worked. Yet it works fine with software cd's and loading on of new programs, and burned CDs with pictures display just fine. I checked the System info on the drive and notice that the last line - which is media - had a 'no' next to it. Is it not turned on or programmed to play movies??? If so, how do I activate it? Thanks for any help.

My MBP plays DVD and says no also, so that is not it. Sounds broken to me. Call Applecare and I do hope you paid for the 3 year Applecare. Did it EVER play DVDs?

The main reason for requesting is that I travel worldwide and would like to watch a movie but am unable to do so because of this I have to carry any movies with me which is extra weight and I used to purchase a DVD/s in the country I am in at the time and once finished give it away or post it home as not to have the extra weight on me.

According to your description, it looks like you encountered a Graphic driver problem. Have you tried to reinstall Graphic driver for test? If not, please have a try.
If possible, also reinstall the sound card driver.

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

Will NOT play ANY DVD

I hardly ever used my DVD player/burner when I was on a PC but at least when I put a disc in it would PLAY. I have had my MacBok Pro now for 2 years and this whole time I have tried to play/burn a DVD maybe 5 times, each time the stupid thing ejects it right away, luckly I just went back to my PC and opened and burned the DVD there!
Looked up what the issues is with the macbook pro and its DVD FAIL, found many other people who have the exact same problem, even called Apple to see *** they are doing to fix this malfunction I was told that because my laptop was over one year old if I wanted to talk to anyone further I would have to pay 45 BLOODY DOLLARS, just to ask if Apple has any plans to help out the people who have purchased faulty laptops over the years I mean this is obviously a major flaw : /

This is probably because we are all supposed to just give up and take the **** things in to their expensive genius bar, or call and pay them huge amounts of money just to ask for more clarity when their Online Support is so bloody vague and less then helpful! I'm not giving up and doing that, I'm giving up and buying a PC!
