Playing AVI Format Movie Clips?

Hi All,
I'm having problems when i try to play movie clips that i've shot using my digital camera.
I can save the clips onto iphoto and when i open one, it does play the actual footage but not the sound.
The other thing is that when i play each clip it opens in Quick Time which i guess is the default.
So how do i get the sound to play?

avi is a container format for a lot of different codecs, and not all of them are part of Quicktime. Installing Perian adds codecs to Quicktime and may help. Other than that, go to your camera maker's site and see if they have a codec you can download.
The other thing is that when i play each clip it opens in Quick Time which i guess is the default.
iPhoto has no ability to play videos, it simply catalogues and stores them. They are played in the QT player.

Try using VLC or installing both QuickTime 7 and Perian. Nothing will work with all AVIs; some of them require codecs not available for Mac OS X.

As for the app Smart Movie, well that may not be a fully featured video player and as this is a user to user forum for support of Nokia products and services only, you won't find any help here unfortunately.

In Premiere I can edit an avi or mov clip but I can not save the result as a like file. Why not???

In Premiere I can edit an avi or mov clip but I can not save tghe result as a like file. What do I have to do??? It only saves a project. Under 'File' the 'Export' function is greyed out. I need help baddly.

Let us start from the beginning.
It has been established that you have Premiere Elements 10. On what computer operating system is it running?
There has not been a File Menu/Export/Movie export opportunitity in Premiere Elements since version 7. We are not up to version 12.
For Premiere Elements 10, your export opportunities are all in Share/ including one for Computer. Under Computer there are several choices. The ones that you see are Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The others you have to scroll down to. And those choices are AVI, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, and Audio. You do not have to use the scroll bar for this. You can click on Adobe Flash Video panel to get it to turn black. Then use the down arrow to go down the list and the up arrow to go up the list. Once you get to a category, you can select a preset and go with it or customize it under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset.
If you post the properties of your source media that you want to try to match in the export, I would be glad to suggest the exact settings for you.

Add On...The Premiere Elements 10 File Menu is for more than Saving, just not exporting. One of the key features that can be access there is the Project Archiver. More on that another time.

Creating New Menus that follow the playing of a movie clip

I was wondering if it is possible to have iDVD display a new menu after playing a movie clip off of the first menu. Then from that second menu if it would then be possible to play a new movie clip.
Essentially I want to create a progressive DVD where after each movie clip there is a new menu with new options. I just wanted to know if that was possible and if so, how I would go about accomplishing it.

I don't think you can do it with iDVD. I wonder if you can even due it with more professional tools, but keep in mind that iDVD is meant as a simple consumer grade application to help people get their home movies on DVD. It is not really meant for anything more fancy than the basics to do what it does.
My guess if your movie will end and either it defaults to the main menu or at best, the menu you entered the movie from. I don't think there is anyway to have a DVD player know where to go (somewhere different) at the end of a movie.

You can download vlc media player for Mac. It runs perfectly on mine.

How do I create a play button for movie clip using AS3

Hello.
Bit new to this and have been searching the adobe forums and google. I am trying to create a button that will play an imported MovieClip.
I have a movie clip that I've imported into it's own layer (Layer1) Frame 1. I've given the MovieClip an instance name of foundationMovie.
I've created a button and have that on its own layer(Layer2) above layer1, it is also in Frame 1.
I've added a
stop (); action to layer2
The video is not set to autoplay.
I want the video to start playing when the viewer clicks the button. I know I've got to put some kind of event listener using AS3 in my timeline somewhere.
I've found some code and I've been trying to work with it. I'm sure I've mutilated it beyond usability but this is what I've got.

First, you need to clear up what you are working with... a movieclip and a video are usually entirely different things.
Next, your code may get you started on your way with some changes. You shouldn't use "play" as a function name due to there already being a play() method/function in Flash.
If the movieclip is a movieclip and has an instance name of "foundationMovie", and your button has an instance name of "player" then the following adjusted code would normally work...

function playMovie(event:MouseEvent)
foundationMovie.play();

QT Pro won't play avi or mov movie

I've download the latest QT Pro but it still won't play the video portion of an AVI or MOV video. What else do I need. I find it incredible that you have to go to this much work to play a video on a MAC.

I just updated QTpro and I can't get audio to play on avi or mov. It's started out and then kept disappearing and now nothing. Major drag.

Can macbook play avi or mov files?

I am looking at buying a new digital camera. One of them produces .avi files and the other one .mov. Can either of those be used by the Mac OS X 10.4 software on my Macbook?

AVI is just a "container". You'll need the proper CODEC for whatever underlying video format is used.

I've never had a problem with any AVI video from any of my Canon cameras using QuickTime. I've been sent some AVI video that didn't work properly because it used some sort of Windows Media format inside the file. I installed the Flip4Mac plug-in which make most Windows Media stuff compatible using QuickTime Player. I also use VLC for assorted files that don't play back except for QuickTime Pro.

Playing mp4 format movies

when I try to play a video on QuickTime with the mp4 format, I get only a green screen. The vlc will not play mp4 as well, nor will the Mplayer OS X, or the Mplayer OS X 2. Any advice or suggestion would be so welcomed.

Have you installed the 3ivx or Divx codec? These are available for download just google for them.

Here is the message I get when I try to open the file.
The file could not be open, a required Codec isn't avaible.

The only problem with that link is that it is a bit of an infomercial. It is good for solutions #1 and #2, but solution #3 is somebody trying to sell your something. Install Perian (free). Install MPEGStreamclip (free). Convert for free. I am sure there are many other free converters.

U can't Play Avi Videos In Nokia 5610 , Avi video Can Only Play By Softwares Named Divx, Smartmovie e.t.c and These Software are not Available For S40 Handsets.
Ur Nokia 5610 supports 3gp and Mp4 Videos .
Just downlaod Nokia Video Manger from www.nokia.com/videos and Convert ur Videos To Mp4 Format and The U can Play Those Videos.
