Playing back a ProRes clip

Hi guys,
When I tried to open a ProRes clip last night in QuickTime, all I got was a black screen, plus audio. This happened a few weeks ago and I found an article telling me to reinstall QT, which I did, and it solved the problem. However, when I tried this again, the new clip doesn't play. All of the older clips, which are ProRes as well, still play.
I'm doing post production on a friend's film and this is the final shot. Please help!!

what would be a good size to break up by 119 page note? the thing is, I couldn't get anywhere once I had scrolled to the bottom and I couldn't have gone more then 5 pages into my manuscript. basically, I was hoping to use the iPod to take documents with me then I could look at them, make notes on paper and input the changes later.
where do I "drop" pictures when my NANO is connected to my Mac? i can't obviously access the NANO screens when it is connected, right?
thank you for your help... the 1 hour and 49 minute file still did not play, I am reimporting it into my NANO. maybe there is a time limit on how long it will play a particular track? the entire track is 1 hour and 49 minutes.

  • Captured clips are playing back at least TWICE as fast

Hey all- I am capturing HD footage from a JVC Pro HD camera - footage shot at 24P. Everything seems fine with the capture (except for the fact that there is no device control - only capture now), but when I play back the captured clips I hear the audio playing at normal speed but the video is playing back at leat at twice the speed - all actors are in FAST motion. I hear the crew and director speaking, getting ready to shoot as I watch the scene start and speed through and end right as the clip ends.
Any ideas? Is it a setting on the OUTPUT for the camera?
    Thanks for any help.

Neither Final Cut Express nor Final Cut Pro support
720p24 material. You need a product like HDVxDV to
    bring it in.
    Tom-
Thanks for getting back to me last night. You seem to be a master in these parts. I am new here. I am really a director and writer but through my production company I have done a number of things in FCP over the years, always without any problems. That is until the introduction of HD and 24p at which time I sort of started saying to our amazing editor "whatver you say" and clouding over with confusion. After I got your message I went and got FCP 5 from the Apple store in an attempt to keep my friend, whose short we were trying to edit, from crying. Once installed and running we had the same issue as we had in FCE HD - the video - in terms of quality - was captured perfectly, but the clips would play back at almost twice the speed that they should have. I tried virtually every easy set-up that pertained to HD and nothing worked. On a few of them I could get an actual Log and Capture window to come up but when I went to play the material via device control there was no image, althoug I could see TC running. A friend suggested that you have to take the captured HD 24p clip and bring it into the timeline and render it for it to work. Is that true? I tried it to no avail. So, he shot on JVC GY-HD 100 at 24p. I now have FCP 5 HD and am considering buying LUMIERE software that purports to streamline this very issue. Any thoughts or suggestions you may have for me would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much,

  • Frame Rate play back problem

Recorded media @ 60 fps. Imported media into fcp. Video plays fast while audio plays ok. What didn't I do?
    Sincerely Kent

FCP doesn't really to 1080p60. That's a non-standard format, since there is no delivery system for it. BluRay doesn't do 1080p60, TV doesn't do 1080p60, Web...does, but it is RARE.  That format is meant to be used for getting smooth slow motion...slowing those 60fps to 30 or 24.
FCP doesn't import that via log and transfer, which is the normal way of importing.  Because it doesn't recognize 1080p60.  For this you need ClipWrap2 from divergentmedia.com.  It will convert it to ProRes 422 (the format you need to work in FCP).
FCP might work with the footage once you import it, but playing back 1080p60 ProRes...you'll need at least a Firewire 800 drive.
I know of no tutorials, but ClipWrap is very easy to use.

  • I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old sys parts

I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight (iMac5,1) to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old system parts. I have zapped PRAM. The blue indicator in system audio panel will appear for a second as I slide the bar for internal mic but then it disappears. Is there a fix?

The sound seems very faint but can here static on playback.

  • Audition 1.5 has problem playing back MT session if I have a ton of stretched clips

I might be doing something AA is not designed to do, I don't know. Perhaps (I wish) there are a lot easier ways of doing this, but I have a band that recorded, with a song that has 8 vocal tracks, singing as a group. However, they don't all start every word/phrase exactly at the same time, but should - therefore I use the clip stretching abilities in MT to cut the track up each place it's off and stretch it to fit. Normally I don't need to stretch it much at all, but after that tedious job is done the overall project sounds a lot better.
However, now I have this session that has maybe 150 stretched clips (pretty crazy, huh?) and it takes about 30 minutes or more to open. Problem is, now it won't play back decently for some reason; certain tracks sound like a bunch of garble and warble - nothing that can be made out. I do not know if all the stretched clips have anything to do with it. The wave files appear the same as before - example, you can see where a louder portion of audio is but it is nothing synced with what I hear on the speakers.
I should also mention that I had an under-rated computer run AA one time and the same thing happened there so I thought it just got tired and so I restarted AA and it worked fine after that. Here I also restarted AA but the problem is not better - worse if anything.
Some tracks play fine, others don't. Another thing of interest is that I have only stretched the vocal tracks; by far the worse garble is on the instrument tracks; they even play back as quirks and garble in Edit View if I go there.
Anyone have any solution why this happens? Am I over doing AA in some way?
Also, is there a more automated way of matching and syncing vocals? I'm talking about them being .1 - .01 seconds off the beat; is there some way AA will automatically stretch clips to match beats with - say - the beat markers?

I am not surprised at all by your reply!
I would do that, soon as I'm done with stretching/timing adjustment; thing was I was still 10 seconds from the end when it started acting up. But Just as a safe precaution in case it would do something like that I had already backed up a couple of times so thankfully I don't need to do it all over again!
So, you don't think that "set beat markers" (or something like that) can be locked to beats in MT? For example if I run the "Find and Mark" beats in EV and then use those beats to snap to the closest beat in MT, stretching the file as need be in order to get it there.. ? Maybe I'm dreaming out of this world.. Next time I'll have to force my clients to sing until they sing it dead on right!
    Thanks for your response!

  • My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created with a older mac os x (lion) and converted them to import into fce. after doing this as well as putting clips on the fce timeline when playing back t.h

My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created on a older mac os x (lion) and when I wanted to import them into fce, a quicktime conversion window opened up and converted them (I haven't experienced this in the past). I then imported the converted quicktime clips into my fce project.  After doing this I took selected clips and put those edited clips on the fce timeline.  When playing the video back in the fce timeline,I noticed
    1) the video wasn't playing back smoothly like the original content
    2) when looking at the timecode reading of the timeline, the timecode was sputtering as well as the video and audio.  I exported to quicktime just to see if that was consistent, it was.
When I play the converted quicktime content independently of fce,  it plays normally (no sputtering of timecode, video and audio.  Need help to resolve the sputtering playback of converted video content in the fce timeline.  I've never experienced this before.  Any suggestions?

When you say you converted the clips before importing them into FCE, did you convert to AIC or DV and do the converted clips match your FCE Sequence settings exactly?  If not, go back and convert the original files again, using the intended Sequence settings as a guide.

  • Video clips won't play back after capture

I am a long-time user of Premiere Elements, currently using version 9.0. I am capturing video clips from the same videocamera that I've used in previous versions of PE. My video clips won't play back after I capture them. The clip is in my "media" area, but when I try to play it back, the audio plays but the picture remains frozen on the starting image. What is happening?

It is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC28, mini DV, using a firewire connection.
Operating System is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, system specs are SATA 2 RAID 1 with dual 1 TB hard drives. 4 GB RAM. As far as how fast my processor is, I looked on my invoice and it says, "Intel Core2 processor Q6600 (2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB) with Quad Core technology and 8 MB cache, 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800 MHz.
I defragmented my hard drive before beginning and have 779 GB or 83 percent free space on hard drive.
I have not placed my video clips on the timeline yet so don't know if there is a red line on top, indicating it hasn't been rendered. I merely wanted to play back my clip to set "in" and "out" points. This has never happened before in my long history of using Premiere Elements. Would prefer not to have to go back to PE 8, as that was a disaster.

  • Playing ProRes Clips with Quicktime

Is there a Quicktime plugin/update that will allow me to play ProRes clips in QT player? (I have not upgraded to FCS2 yet; waiting for new Mac Pro)
AND will I need FSC2 to convert a ProRes clip to H.264 for web in Compressor?
    Thanks.

You could probably use SnapzPro X2 ( http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ ) to capture the clips as they play on your desktop.

  • Premiere CC eating up memory while playing back ProRes 4444

We are editing footage shot on the Amira on two Mac Pros with Premiere Pro CC 2014.
One of the Macs plays back the native footage fine at half resolution. Looking at the activity monitor, the whole system is using about 12GB of RAM and stays there.
However, the other Mac seems to be gobbling up RAM very fast during playback until it hits the ceiling and everything starts to slow down and seize up. It will only release the RAM after quitting the program or forcing OS X to purge it.
I’ve posted the specs for each Mac below.
A few other things to note:
    - The media format is ProRes 4444 and size is 2048 x 1152
    - Disabling LUTs does not seem to fix the problem
    - Replacing the ProRes 4444 footage with ProRes Proxy fixes the problem, but with 120 hours of footage, this not an ideal solution as we are in the middle of an edit
    - The bad Mac is showing an error in the Activity Monitor (Adobe QT32 server not responding)
    - Removing plugins from Library/Quicktime does not fix the problem
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Paul

Hey Sam... just wondering if you ever figured this problem out.  I have the exact same problem, albeit with FCPX XML's.  It's driving me bonkers and nobody seems to know.  Any insight would be truly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Program Monitor - I'm not seeing whole clip when playing back

I'm real worried!  Having spent days of my life importing video and editing it - and then trying to fix my problem of only seeing a part of the playing-back clip in the program monitor which led me onto your site.  I've spent hours looking at your posts (and indeed Adobe help pages) trying to solve this and clearly (I think!) my original sequence settings have been wrong.  Maybe I can come back to that because I'm really not sure how to set these correctly.  My initial question please, if I complete my editing and then export this file, will I still only see part of the clips in the final version, or will I see the whole of the original movie clip?
    Some information:
    - Windows 7
    - Premiere Pro CS4
    - Program Monitor setting is "Fit"
    - 16:9 aspect ratio
    - PAL (based in the UK)
    - Sony HD camcorder - SR12E
    - 1920 x 1080i HD
Phew, hope that's enough information for you to 'kick start' me!
    Thank you.
    Regards, Doreen.

Would you also be able to tell me if the Sequence Preset below is my correct preset for the future.  Thanks.
    - AVCHD
    - 1080i
    - AVCHD 1080i30 60i (Amamorphic)
Oh, it's like a new language!

  • ProRes converted from T2i won't play back right

I am trying to work with footage from a Canon T2i. Using Log & Transfer and the Canon plug-in (with a hack to make it work for the T2i), I convert to ProRes 422 (not HQ). I'm using an OWC FW800 RAID (this one: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/PerformanceRAID) and I'm working on a Macbook Pro (2.33 GHz).
When I play back the footage after being transcoded, either in FCP or Quicktime, it's very jerky and slips out of sync. I just bought the new hard drive, after having issues with FW 400 drives, so I thought this would fix it, but it's not. It seems like something somewhere along the line can't keep up.
Is the computer not fast enough? The drive? I'm logging and transferring directly from my SDHC card reader; should I first transfer the files to the hard drive?
Please help - getting very frustrated! Thanks!

I have that unit with two 1 TB Seagates in it and haven't had issues.
However, I used it as a BU drive configured as JBOD.
I wonder if the RAID controller is causing issues.
Note as well that using a single FW bus to create a RAID is an issue.
Any chance you can test it configured as JBOD with two drives?

  • Insert a clip into a new sequence, the clip will not play back

Macbookpro 8G ram twin 2.5 Intel, 1333 Mhz
I am an experienced editor coming over from AVID.  This is my second project attempt in Premiere. First was fine. I imported clips that live on my hard drive.  When I make a clip selection, mark the in and out and "insert into a new sequence, the sequence will not play back un less I render it first. I am talking about one (1) shot maybe 3 seconds long.  I have done no other edits in the sequence and have added no effects but there is an effect icon on the clip in the sequence,  This can't be right. It is not the way it worked for my first test project.  It would take 40 hours to edit a 60 second spot…  What has happened here?
Footage is 1080p 24fps.  Short with a digital DSLR and Files are the same (.mov)  as in the first project,

I have exactly the same problem. All of a sudden preview window is not working properly. In some projects it only plays audio with gray screen, in some it doesn't plays at all or plays audio from another projects. Sometimes preview gets frozen with the first frame in the project. I can however play video from Event Library, but without any sound. When I create new project and drag clips from Library, it plays with gray screen and again without sound. Restarting iMovie or Mac is no help. I'm using iMovie 8.0.6
Waiting for help desparatly, thank you

You actually want a vertical video??
What would you show that on?!
Rotating video or photos in iMovie 11:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a884fd3
In earlier versions of iMovie you can also do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
    Window -> Show Movie Properties
    select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
    check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
    FILE -> Save
You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:

  • Why are video frames dropping out on import to FCP 10.2?  Clips play back fine before import.

Having trouble with video frame dropout after importing to Final Cut Pro 10.2.  Clips play back fine before import.  I have an iMac with OS X Yosemite 10.10.13.  Tried rejecting clips and reimporting to no avail.  I'm also not the world's brightest techno editor.

    Hi Russ,
Now you’ll know how really dumb I am!  I have the libraries and media stored on 3 external drives, although FCP app lives on the hard drive.  I accessed the project from one of the drives.  Then also tried accessing it from the program on the HD.  The media is AVCHD from a Panasonic AG/AC 160 camera, shot at 60 fps.  I deleted the files, but haven’t had a chance yet to re-import as both opt. and proxy.  Other clips, imported before upgrade, are fine.
I have an iMac mid 2011;  Processor 2.5 GHz, Intel Core i5.  Two of the drives are 1 tb and the 3rd is 4Tb
    thanks,
