Playing CD already in the drive

I put a CD in the drive. Then, I started iTunes, and I wanted to play the CD. I see no way of doing so. Is that really so, or am I blind?

You know, Chris, what you are saying makes a lot of sense. When I first tried to burn my CD, I used Media Player, and all I got were 2 kb files on the CD. I did not notice that it had failed first, and I took the CD out and then, I put it in again, and it might have been at that time iTune did not display the CD.
I then burned the CD with Nero, and all went well, and, as I said, the CD showed up in iTunes.

My first thoughts were that 'bootcamp' was out of date...needed an upgrade to register windows 7. Since then I am once again met with the same problem... how can it not see the I have already have a paritioned drived ready to be used for installition, is there a way to fix this problem? I don't really want to pay out for 'i-parition' only to merge my 2 drives back into one and start again from scratch =/. Seems silly to do so...what are my options?

ONE PARTITION.
You don't need to buy anything but you should have backups.
you can delete #2 you created. Then resize to full drive.

Installation wizard prompts for the installation disk--though the disk is already in the drive

I cannot get past the install wizard, which prompts me to install the disk, even though the disk is already in the drive. The install wizard gets to the point of calculation installation time, them prompts me to install the disk, which is already in the drive bay. I click Continue, I even eject the disk and replace it in the drive, and it just keeps prompting for me to install it. I eventually cancel the install, and the errors copied below are reported:

It appears you are using some form of Windows which version do you have? What are you trying to install? Have you tried download and running the Adobe Support Advisor?

My new Mac Book Pro came with someone elses CD in already in the Drive

Just received my new Mac Book Pro just yesterday.
I purchased it online via the apple store.
When I was playing around with it just before, I tried inserting an installation disk for Office Mac when I realised the CD wouldn't go into the drive.
After a while I realise a CD was already in there - it was someone elses scratched up blank CD with a bunch of Asian songs on it.
How does this happen?? Makes me wonder if i've been given some second hand computer!!
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do or maybe this has happened before to someone??

Yeah I have the original CDs. And I have backed up some stuff. But shouldn't things like safari and itunes be working anyway? The applications are there, they just won't open. Someone told me would lose my preferences and just had to update them again, but I can't do so cause safari doesn't work and internet explorer won't let me get on certain sites...

My Standard CDC-ECM device can not work in Lion, and where is the driver located?

Hi, I have built a standard CDC-ECM image(PID is 0x900D) for a device, it can work in Mac OS X 10.5/10.6; but fails in Lion. It seems already find the driver; but can not connect successfully in Lion. What should I pay attention? Besides, what is the filename I can find for this standard CDC-ECM which is for USB Ethernet? It should be in System/Library/Extensions folder, right?

Drivers in OSX are in /System/Library/Extensions yes.
Unlike 10.5 and 10.6 Lion boots in 64bit mode and will not load 32bit kexts or kexts that contain powerpc code.
CDC devices ( and a lot of modems / cellphone drivers ) failing in Lion is always the result of incompatible kexts. You can workaround this if you boot Lion into 32bit mode or have a Snow-compatible ( Intel only, 32/64bit coded ) driver for the device.

I'd try to find another Mac to make a DMG of it & burn a copy to see if that works better.

Im running windows 7 64 bit. installed itunes 10.5.4.1 and now cds will not import or play. If i have the cd in the drive and then open itunes it will importor play but after removed the next disc will not read. the system has passed the cd/dvd test.

I ve tried completely removing itunes and reinstalling. also unchecked autocorrect and find art and track names which did not work as well. Any ideas of how to fix this?

The same way the library was copied/moved to the external drive.
Copy it from location A to location B.
Then point iTunes to the correct library.

I have a mac mini-snow leopard. I recently bought an external HD. I want to use part of the HD to back up my mac via Time Machine. The other part I want to use to store my Itunes and other media such as movies with VLC so that I can take the HD and play it back thru my windows XP laptop. The problem is that my laptop does not see the part of the external drive that has my mac info stored on it. Only sees the drive ( as drive E ) with zero data that was created by me when I partitioned it on my mac. I partitioned the drive in two. One partitioned under GUID for mac. The other part under exfat for windows. Any suggestions on why my XP laptop cannot view the mac info on the HD. Thanks.

DVD Drive will not recognize any movie DVD disk in the drive - thus will not play any dvd movies.

HP G71 449WV dvd drive will not recognize any dvd disc that has a movie on it. Will not play movies, keeps saying to insert disc when there is a disc in there. It will recognize a dvd data disc or a blank dvd, it just will not recognize any dvd movies. I've tried the microsoft fix it, downloaded new codecs, using different dvd playback software but none of that works since the drive will not recognize there is even a dvd movie in the drive. Computer is out of warranty.

It appears that you're not able to play movie DVD's in the DVD player in your notebook. I will try to assist you with this.
I'd recommend starting with this document:

Also, are these purchased DVD's or burnt DVD's?
Do the movies play in other sources? (DVD player, other PC)

What if you take this same topic of an external hard drive with music but instead of directly attached to the computer the music is on a Network Attached hard drive(NAS)? Will I be able to add music to my ipod without any problem? Step that up a notch, will the two computers on my network be able to recognize the music on the NAS? Will the two users be able to create their own playlists and update their ipods independently? Now step up that up one more notch, will I be able to do this with one PC running XP and my macbook with OS X?
Before I run out and buy a NAS I want to be certain. I also would like to convert my DVD library in the future and put it on the network available to an AppleTV or other UpNp media player in the future, because I love having power at my finger tips.
