What happens when you try to buy them, does the 'buy' button not work, do you get any error messages ... ?

I have an old apple id that conflicts with my newer apple id, and when I try to update apps. sometimes the old apple id pops up and wants the password. I don't know password

How do I delete an old Apple ID without losing the itunes music and apps I downloaded with it? I want all my itunes music and apps. under my new Apple ID. How do you consolidate old and new itunes and apps on a new iphone?

I have the same problem and signing out in settings doesn't seem to work. Somewhere, the old id is "hard coded" in the ipad because I used it when I purchased the app, I guess. The only thing that has worked for me is to delete the app and get it again with my current id - great for the free ones, not so great for the ones I paid for.
