  • "The iPhone is already synced with another iTunes library" same imac but after update Snow leopard now have this problem? HELP

I recently just had to re-install snow leopard on my imac. Thankfully I backed up all my music and re-imported everything from my old install to this one. However, when I go to sync my iPhone 4 I get the message that reads:
"The iPhone is already synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and synch with this iTunes library?"
It warns that doing so will erase my current iphone and replace the contents of it with the contents in my new iTunes library.
I manage to back up photo in iPhoto, using iTune I Back up using control click mouse and get the back up button, but when I search my computer for the backup it cannot find it anywhere!!!!I I'm afraid to sync in fear of losing all my images and app data. want all mytext and other things to be safe
    please HELP

  • I can't open my iphoto library on an external disk (78 gb ntfs); if i copy the files on the iMac the file is smaller and not usable. how can i recover my photo?

    hi all,
i'm using the last version of iPhoto and i save my library on a western digital external USB drive; the drive is formatted in NTFS; i usually use tuxera to access and browse the files.
Unfortunately, i don't know why, i access this drive in read only mode, so iPhoto doesn't accept the library any more; i tried to copy the library on the iMac but the copied file is really smaller (54 gb instead on the 78 on the drive), and iphoto doesn't accept it.
i need to find a solution and to recover my library, i've no other copies?!
tuxera doesn't open any other ntfs drive i think the problem is there, but i have to finf other solutions to recover my photos.
thank you all for any suggestion.

This problem is entirely due to this:
the drive is formatted in NTFS
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Do you get any error messages when you try and copy the file back to your Mac?
Do you have a back up?

  • IDVD movie plays on DVD player not on imac

Have burnt DVD using iDVD plays fine on DVD player but not iMac that created it. Shows movie as VLC files

    Hi
If it follow DVD Standard - as it use to be when created in iDVD. You see at least two folders on the DVD
    - VIDEO_TS
    - AUDIO_TS (empty and must be so)
Then the usual origin to this problem are:
    - Brand of DVD used (Many Cheap brands DO NOT WORK as Video-DVDs) - I only use Verbatim
    - BURN SPEED - If this is not set down there are LOT's of Burn Errors - Many stand alone DVD-Players can handle this but the Mac is very picky - I always set this down as slow possibly (x2 most often ev. x4 NEVER HIGHER)

  • Import Mail from Imac G5 PowerPc Panther to Imac 8.1 Intel with Leopard

    Hi,
I wonder if someone could be so kind as to outline the steps to transfer my mail and associated mail preferences (rules etc) from my old G5 PowerPC to my new Intel based IMAC. I'm a little unsure as I've heard various nightmare stories and also some rumour about emails not being readable once transferred across from the PowerPC based IMACS to the new Intel based IMACS.
My mail is extremely important so I'd rather proceed cautiously and correctly to ensure no loss of data.
    Many thanks in advance
    Q.

You can restore the iMac to initial condition with respect to Mail by removing the current Mail folder (Home/Library and locate the Mail folder) and the com.apple.mail.plist file from Home/Library/Preferences.
On the G5, first use Rebuild Mailbox on each mailbox before the next attempt to move the Mail folder and plist from the G5, while able to do so in Panther. Then read the following for background:
This happened a lot when people upgraded a single computer from 10.3 to 10.4 and Mail 2.x, but the issues are nearly the same if upgrading from 10.3 to 10.5, and much the same trying to migrate the Mail assets.
For background read the info in the topic at the link below, which while written about conversion from 10.3 to 10.4, would also structurally apply to a conversion from 10.3 to 10.5, even if using 10.4 in between. Sadly, it would appear the conversion process has not been strengthened, although the real fault lies with the condition of the mailboxes prior to Upgrade -- this is the purpose of making the index for each mailbox as healthy as possible before Mail tries to convert the structure on the mailboxes.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5664866&#5664866
In this situation the messages are not lost, but properly converting them for use in Mail 3.0 (or first in Mail 2.0) can be a detailed and tedious project. The best thing would be to have used Rebuild on every mailbox prior to the Upgrade. Of course I recognize that for those converting a single Mac it may be too late for that now, but you have opportunity to improve on that!
There is an issue often when going directly from 10.3.9 and Mail 1.3.11 related to conversion of the data in the mbox file into xxxx.emlx files in the Messages folder that Mail 3.x uses. The Messages folder came into use with 10.4.
An important comparison to make, after you know where to look in the Finder, is to compare the size of the mbox file in any xxxx.mbox folder to that of the Messages folder in the same mailbox. The reason to do this is check whether all messages that were in the mbox when the Upgrade was done were converted properly.
There can be issues if you ran a still earlier version of Mail, and other leftover files might then be present which could be problematic.
Please do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you need to ask to get comfortable with all you may need to do, depending on the number of large and complex mailboxes you had prior to the Upgrade.
If nothing else, be sure to read:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
which was mentioned the referenced topic.
Btw, if the Messages folder of any xxxx.mbox were to be near or over 2 GB all by itself there could be another problem called overstuffing.
Be sure to keep a copy of the prior Mail folder and plist available for further attempts if the next one does not succeed. The index structure has changed since 10.3, but in converting Mail can use the old form of one index per mailbox to the single universal index now called the Envelope Index. Using the old indexes and table of content info is what allows Mail to retain the relationship of incoming messages and replies to those messages.

  • IMac freezing after update to Yosemite

    Hi reader!
I'm struggling with my iMac after I've updated to Yosemite.
    Problem description:
My iMac keeps crashing when I launch some specific demanding programs.
I tried to launch a game, Heroes of Newerth, it keeps freezing the iMac totally, after 10-15 sec.
When i launch videos on Facebook it does the same.
I can play movies in VLC and i can surf on the internet, but not watch youtube videos.
I’ve tried deleting apps like Adobe and Java, but can’t seem to delete Java to reinstall it.
These apps are being reinstalled as I write this.
The real issue is, it happened suddenly after some weeks after I updated to Yosemite, and i haven't updated anything else the last 2-3 days.
I am really in a pickle, with exam-reading coming up, and I have a lot of stuff backed up on a USB drive, but not it all.
I can't even get diskwarrior before it freezes up.
    My specs are
    iMac 24-inch, early 2009
Processor 2,93 GHz Intel core 2 duo
    Memory 4 gb 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
If more is needed, I'll be happy to provide it.
    Thanks, appreciate the help!

  • IMac Crash after Updating to 10.6.8

Hello.  I have a 24" iMac that was working fine until I updated to 10.6.8.  Immediately after updating it crashed and gave me the power off box in the center.  After doing that several times I also got "the gray veil of death" that scrolled down slowly and then my screen was solid gray except for a multi-line message in the upper left (looked like old DOS).  It had a mixture of messages and code (i.e. 00x589045, etc.).  Occasionally it would have a variety of messages.  After rebooting repeatedly I finally got my system back.  Then I backed it up using Timemachine.  After I rebooted it started all over.  My peripherals were the standard wireless apple keyboard and a Logitech wireless mouse (USB Wireless) but nothing spectacular.  During the reboot sequence I'd get the message to send to Apple, then the next one reporting the issue.  About 30 seconds later I'd get the gray veil of death again and the power down and reboot command.
I call Apple support today and reloaded the Snow Leapard system.  Everything seemed fine, backed up again just to be sure, then started updating the system again.  Whole thing started all over again.  Now I can't even get it to boot up once properly.  I'll probably end up taking it in, but was wondering if anyone else had the same issue and what they did to resolve it.  Haven't found an update released for the recent update, so now I'm stuck until I exchange it or they fix it.
Again, thanks for help if you're familiar with this problem specifically after the 10.6.8 update.

Thank you for the input.  I really appreciate the help.  I downloaded the Bluetooth update and tried it.  I've pretty much isolated it to the Bluetooth or wireless mouse functions, as both of them cause the gray screen drop and crash.  The update didn't fix it but at least I'm narrowing it down.

  • Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from internet that was fine with Leopard. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from the internet that was fine with Leopard before. I just got a black screen when I clicked on a pdf icon on a given internet site, and same happened with several sites that I visited. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Try two things with Safari not running:
    1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using".  If it's checked, try unchecking it.
    2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin.  If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
    Then see how things work.

  • Opening Photo Files in Photo Shop CS3 after installing Snow Leopard.

After installing Snow Leopard I could only open photo files in a Preview mode. I called Adobe and Apple and could not get a solution. So I called my local Mac tech person where I got the answer to my problem. What to do: Right click on an image file icon.(Do not open image.) Then go to: Get info. In the dropdown menu, Open with: Select Adobe Photoshop CS3.app or whatever app you desire. Then click change all. You have to do this just one time for each extention such as jpg, tif, etc. Trust this helps.

    Hello sean:
I am not an expert in iPhoto, but people who post here are:

To try to address the browser problem, reset Safari and see if that helps. Also, try an alternate browser (I use Firefox that way) to see if the problem is system-wide. Also, there is a Safari forum here:

  • Is There a way to play Windows Media files on the IMac?

Windows Media Player 9 does not work for intel model, neither do the Quicktime components. Any other alternatives?

I have had good luck converting the WMA files to mp3s, which my iTunes see and play with no problem.
    Here is how.
    1. Open WMP9 and select copy from CD
    2. from the TOOLS menu at the top select OPTIONS
    3. From OPTIONS select the COPY MUSIC tab.
    4. In the COPY MUSIC page half way down under "copy settings" you will
see a radio window with a drop down menu. The window is labeled
    FORMAT.
    5. Change the window (typically it is in "Windows Media Audio" to
"MPEG Layer-3." There is a good instructional tip link right next to
the drop-down window labeled "Learn more about MP3 formats."
    6. Remember to hit APPLY on the tab at the bottom of the page,
    then close out.
Now when you copy music into your PC it will be in a medium that both the mac and the PC can use.
Some notes: If you plan to copy music from your computer to use in your car stereo do so on a CD-R, otherwise there is a good chance the car stereo wont see it.
You can copy all of your iTunes on a DVD+R, but only your Mac will be able to play them. It is a good way to archive them, but nothing else will play them. WMP9 won't even see them.
If you don't have the original CDs and are trying to transfer music that is in WMA format you will have to copy it to a CD first, typically a CD that is a Playlist. Then reinstall it as an MP3. When you pull up your menu in WMP9 you will then see the same song repeated twice, but one will have a much smaller file space (the MP3). and will be labled as an MP3. I would suggest keeping both versions if you have the hard drive space, since many ultraportable devices anymore require on or the other.
As for the WMP9 not working on the iMac, are you sure you activated it? Mine works fine now that I have 2 gigs of RAM. My iMac came with 512, and would routinely freeze up and crash on just about anything. Once I put 2 gigs in it, it became a whole new machine. It works about as well as any PC I have ever seen, and even better than some.
I would strongly suggest that if the WMP on your iMac is not accepting WMA files from your PC that you call their tech help. Those folks are great!
    Hope this helps,
    Doug

  • Playing .iso "DVD" files - what software to use?

I've got quite a few DVDs ripped as .iso files. I made these files (from DVDs that I own) on an XP PC. They were done using this format because that's what my Pixel Magic media player uses.
Is there any OS X software that'll play these files?

If you have just the .IFO and .VOB files, and not the rest of the files (like the .BUPs), you need to rip the MPEG streams out using something MPEGStreamClip, or whatever.
However, if you have all the files that make up a DVD, place them in folder named VIDEO_TS and make a folder named AUDIO_TS at the same level as VIDEO_TS. Once you do that, they can be played using the OS X DVD Player application.

  • Cannot play copied itunes files

I just got a new laptop (pc) and I copied my itunes library to a flash drive. I copied all the files into what I thought was the correct folder, however, everytime I go to play a song it says I have to locate the file - and then I have to select it. I don't have a huge library, but doing that with over 2000 songs is going to be a nightmare. After the fact, I made sure to check the "copy songs" in advanced preferences, but it won't apply to those I already copied. Can I delete them and start over? Or is there a fix now?  Any info/tips would be appreciated!  Thanks!

There are codecs in the Windows version of Windows Media Player which do not exist on a Mac, so perhaps that's the issue.
But you say you tried VLC Player and MPlayer, but not that you've tried the Mac version of WMP, so if you haven't, give that a try. If that doesn't work, one last thing to try would be WMV Player. It's not free, but they have a free trial so you could see if it worked for you.
If none of those solutions help, then I can only guess that the files are encoded in a codec for which no Mac version exists. When you get stuff from Acquisition or any other P2P network, there's no knowing what sort of hash you'll end up with.
Don't Steal Intellectual Property! Please make sure that all material (songs, movies, etc.) you obtain from P2P networks are legal, not pirated.

  • How do I copy a file from a PC to a MAC with Airport Express?

I read that it should be possible to share and copy files between computers connected via an Airport Express wireless network in the Airport Express Technical Specification.
I have my PC connected to the Airport via an adapter and it happily shares Internet connection and Printers with my MAC (G5) wirelessly. I have the PC connected via the 'Access Point' option in the Netgear Adapter (rather than Computer to Computer Ad hoc - which i tried but doesn't seem to work).
I found the excellent : http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html which details how to set up sharing and I have followed this successfully to the point where I get to the point where I should connect to the PC (from the MAC " Finder | Go | Connect to Server...") specifying its TCP address (in my case 'smb:10.0.0.3') but it times out with an error message stating that 'Finder could not find the specified resource" or something similar.
My question is - is this possible using Airport Express, and what steps are needed to set this up? Is Access point the issue perhaps?

Both the PC and the Mac are wireless clients of the
    Airport Express (AX)?
Yes, both Mac and PC are wirless Clients of AX
Can you provide more information on your network
topology. Is the AX connected to the internet?
Yes, AX is connected to the internet (a wireless ISP called unwired.com.au)
Is the Airport Express using 10.0.0.x addressing
rather than the default of 10.0.1.x
Sorry, you are correct: AX is using 10.0.1.x and is itself 10.0.1.1, PC is 10.0.1.3
Note it should be smb://10.0.0.3 and not
    smb:10.0.0.3
I suspect it should be smb://10.0.1.3
You are correct - thanks~!!! It works fine now - I am really impressed with
    a) the fact this works
    b) your spot-on advise iFelix! THanks!
I am curious to know though, given the Mac and PC are clients of the AX, is there anything I need to do explictly to ensure the Firewall of the AX is turned on now that I am sharing and exposing files and directories on these machines and have to have client firewalls turned off? I was using Sygate on the PC as my software firewall but found no matter what Adapter related software i 'allowed' in the firewall, it would no longer access the internet.
