Playing Counter Strike Source on Macbook Pro Unibody crashes constantly

I'm running Macbook pro with the 2.8 ghz processors and 320gb 7200rpm I've boot camped my mac with a xp 32bit cd installed all the drivers from the mac os cd then installed the rest of the drivers and updates from windows update then once that was finished i went to apple.com and downloaded bootcamp 2.1 update for xp. installed steam then bought and downloaded CS. I'll load up counter strike and i turned all the visual effects to as low as they go the resolution is not high same as the ratio which is set at normal.I'll be playing counter strike and within 10 seconds of joining a server to about 4-5 minutes my computer screen will go black sounds will repeat like it froze then i have to hold the power button. At first i thought it was the laptop overheating. XP runs the fans at full speed and my laptop is sat on top of a laptop cooler with 2 fans spinning at 2000rpm. I didn't think this was enough so i put a pretty powerful house fan up next to my computer and put it on full blast. The unibody didn't even get warm it was so good at cooling but yet again 2 minutes playing CS I crashed again. Can anyone help me out? Other then the crashing and having to reset my laptop the game runes at 150fps average even the video stress test said i did 190 fps.

After several more tests I’ve arrived at a solution.
There seems to be a random element in Boot Camp’s installation process that creates an IRQ resource conflict in Windows. The BSOD I was getting indicated that “IRQL not less than or equal to” and a BCM.sys file was responsible for the conflict. This file is related to the Broadcom Ethernet driver.
Reverting back to Boot Camp 2.1 actually made Counter Strike crash even sooner, but suggested to me that Boot Camp drivers were responsible. I performed a complete uninstall and reinstalled to Boot Camp 3.0. Hours of game play later and no crashes or BSOD.
If a complete uninstall and reinstall doesn’t fix it for you the first time, try it again. I think it just has to “randomly” assign the IRQ correctly. Manually assigning the IRQ probably won’t work as Windows apparently cannot detect the conflicts until it fails.
Direct X 10 is not responsible for the problem. I tested this by running CSS in 9.0c mode via an advanced start command and it still crashed. Oh, and I also discovered that Direct X 10 is integrated into Vista and cannot be uninstalled or rolled back.

  • Having some troubles while playing Counter Strike: Source

    Hi guys,
Currently I'm using the Macbook Pro 13.3" 2nd version ( 2.9GHz, etc.). It's from Mid 2012 I believe. Anyway, I got it for passing my finals, so I've got it for less than a month now. And the thing is, I'm not really satisfied with the way it works. Please note that I'm not talking about the operating system. I feel that the performance is pretty poor, the battery dies on me really quick and it gets extremely hot. Not warm, but HOT. I could fry an egg on the bottom of my laptop.
I would expect something that costs so much, to work perfectly.
My apologies, I'm going off topic.
Whilest playing Counter Strike: Source, which should work perfectly fine on a MacBook Pro, I've noticed a rather poor performance. It shocks a lot. It's not "lag", because I have it on all the servers, even where my internet connection is around the 15 ( which is really good, the lower the better).
This is my very first laptop so I'm not sure what to do and how to use one properly. If all these symptoms are considered normal, then I would like to apologize in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Patrick

  • HT1338 how you download counter strikes go in macbook pro??

how you downloa counter strike go in macbook pro??

Looks like you can buy it on Steam for $15.
Do not, whatever you do, follow Anudeep's instructions and download it illegally from some Russian site... that's a good way to get malware on your machine, not to mention that it is illegal. (Watch how fast his post will disappear!)

  • Jerky graphics while playing counter strike: source

I can't make cs:s run as smooth as it did before on my pc (yes I know windows has a different type of mouse acceleration). I've tried everything. If I enable "wait for vertical sync" it runs smooth but the mouse is slow and really annoying. When I turn "wait for vertical sync" OFF, the graphics is jerky and really annoying and I experience screen tearing, but the mouse runs pretty smooth and follows my directions pretty good, but is still annoying.
Is there a way to fix this so I can have BOTH smooth graphics and mouse?
... all I want to get rid off is the jerky picture and the tearing that occurs when I'm panning.
Does anyone know if Mac OS X Lion will fix any of these issues in Steam-bases games.
I'v got the brand new 21,5 iMac (MC812):
    CPU 2,7Ghz: i5 Quad Core
    Memory: 4Gb
    HDD: 1Tb
    Graphic: Radeon 6770
    Cheers/

  • MacBook Pro 2008 crashes constantly with Yosemite

    Hi!
I'm running an early 2008 15" MacBook Pro with 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB memory, and I just installed Yosemite 10.10.2 as well as the 4 GB memory and a new Samsung 840 EVO SSD 250 GB hard drive and now my computer crashes frequently, seemingly at random. It freezes, for a second, then shuts down and starts up again and this is the report it provides once it has restarted:

I don't understand the report at all and I couldn't find another topic with the same problem, so if anyone has any ideas what is wrong, if there's something I could fix, I'd really appreciate the help! Before the upgrade my MBP was running OS X 10.5.8 and after replacing the old hard drive with the new SSD drive and upgrading the 2 GB memory to 4 GB I first installed OS X 10.6.8 and only then downloaded Yosemite.
I'll gladly provide more information if needed!
    Thank you,
    H

Thanks so much for the superfast reply!
It seems that the new RAM was the problem, although memtest on both RAMs gave me nothing but okays all the way. But I removed one of the new RAMs anyway and with only one RAM in one of the slots there hasn't been anymore panics. So thank you!
It is kind of a shame though, because with 4 GB RAM my MBP was a lot faster and they were specifically for MBPs too, so I'm wondering what's the problem. The memtest said they were fine too, and my MBP should be able to handle max. 4 GB RAM, so could the RAM still be faulty despite what the memtest said, or is there possibly something I could do to stop the panics and still use the 4 GB RAM? I know it's probably a long shot to ask, but I have to try in case someone is experiencing the same problem and knows what to do.
Still, thank you so much for you help, OGELTHORPE!

  • Counter Strike Source

hi recently i try this Game Counter Strike Source by using boot camp on Window XP, but i'm having some problem when loading there is black screen... does anyone know this problem.. is there any way to solve please help thanks...

You can run CS Source through boot camp and it works fine. I don't have it on my own computer, but I know because of the hardware in the MacBook. I've played on a PC that has similiar configs, possibly even lower.
Hit me up ... I'm Stankoniaexp90 on various servers. I liked the P00p server a lot though lol.

  • I'm looking for screws for the bottom of my macbook pro unibody.

I need screws for the bottom of my macbook pro unibody. They started falling out after I upgraded my RAM, apparently they had some type of threadlock on them. Apple was of little help and directed me to a an apple store or service center which is not convienent. So far, I've been only able to find the 'old' pack of 5 screws, not the pack of 10 that my mac requires. I did find one seller on ebay advertising them but would like to avoid that path if possible. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

No this is not a common problem.  Have you had the bottom off before?
The factory set screws you see a bit if blue lock tight which makes it more difficult the first time out.
They can replace the screws over the counter at any authorized repair service or Genius bar:

  • Counter-Strike: Source Server Lag

I was running Debian Sarge (64bit), and a few Counter-Strike Source servers, I had no problem at all and they was running smooth.
Recently I installed Arch (i686) on the server and the CSS servers are laggy, while playing you get frequent lag spikes...
    $ uname -a
    Linux r0xb0x 2.6.17-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 9 07:32:55 CEST 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 4000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
I was running 2.6.7(?) on Debian, so I'm thinking its the 2.6.17 kernel, should I try a differant flavor like beyond/archck/vanilla?
The FPS fluctuatates from 120 - 250, I could'nt tell you what it was like on Debian.
Is there a custom kernel for gaming? Or one that would suite my needs better, or should I compile my own?
    Thanks
    -- eth0

I'm trying to compile my own kernel, and I can't get pass "make install":
    [root@r0xb0x linux-2.6.17.13]# make install
    sh /usr/src/linux-2.6.17.13/arch/i386/boot/install.sh 2.6.17.13eth0 arch/i386/boot/bzImage System.map "/boot"
Fatal: open /dev/hda: Read-only file system
    make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
    make: *** [install] Error 2
    Some reason it's using /dev/hda, yet all my hard-drives are SATA (/dev/sda), why's it using /dev/hda. I Google'd, couldn't find anything...

  • SB Xtreme Music and Counter-strike Source He

    Hello,
I have a sound blaster xtreme music and I play the game counter-strike source. I have having a problem with the surround sound. I can hear everything around me except behind me when I play. Ive tried everything to get it but I just cant figure? it out. Can some help me!

I do not have other games, only CSS - well the valve games i bought.
When I am in Ventrilo, the others hear me with the audio creation, I can change the effects and they hear it. Although, in counter strike, it makes no change to my audio- my audio just sounds normal, so I thought the diagnostic from SB would show me something. The above error might be the reason, but I do not know what that actually means.
    Thanks

  • Windows 7 and counter-strike source shuttering.

I have concluded this is caused by creatives driver by disabling the card in device manager the shuttering is gone. Is there a work in progress for this or some kind of work around until it is fixed?

Re: Windows 7 and counter-strike source shuttering. Found a simple work around until someone can fix this, found this over in the sevenforums.com
Hi there, I've recently had an extremely annoying issue regarding sound, games, multiplayer, and Windows 7. When I would start up a game (such as Counter-Strike Source or Heroes of Newerth) and connect to server, my fps and ping would be nominally ok, but the game would lag. In HoN this would be displayed by the heroes moving jerkily around the map, even though my fps and ping were good. In Counter Strike, this evidenced itself by glitchy nades that don't bounce smoothly, and whenever sounds are played, the ping spikes a bit. It's kind of like playing on a 33 tic server, for those of you familiar with the game. None of these issues occurred in single player games or in the aforementioned games with a local server.
Anyway, I searched and searched here and couldn't find anything, but finally I found something in Google:
Stop and disable the "Multimedia Class Scheduler" service<
Run regedit and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Audiosrv"<
Double click on the entry "DependOnService" and delete the line with "MMCSS" from the text box<
Reboot and enjoy lag free games<
This fixes issues with Realtek '97 (my motherboard uses nforce 4 chipset), and I'm guessing it will also fix issues with Creative Audigy 2 ZS, which I also have installed at the moment, but haven't tested.
I diagnosed the issue by realizing that by disabling audio devices in device manager, lag would disappear in-game. So glad I found this solution after installing 6 different audio drivers and generally being very frustrated. Just thought I'd leave this here as a reference for others with a similar issue.
    Original solution by Mirkon. Thanks!

  • Problem with 6700 6.1 in counter strike source with msi mobo

    hi,
i've just baught a 6700 6.1 set and they work fine in windows, dvds and the msi speaker set up test. but in counter strike sources speaker test and in game only the centre and sub work. i've changed the speaker settings in windows and source with no luck.
my msi mobo (k8n neo2) has 7.1 built in but only offers 2channel 4channel 5.1 or 7.1 options so i am using my speakers in 5.1 when i run the speaker set up test provided with my mobo the right speaker is highlighted and then plays a sound but in the source speeker test only the centre and sub actually make a sound when they are iluminated i have tryed all combinations off the msi set up and source set up and the problem does not change.
i was wondering what i could do or if this problem has been heard of before.
if i have missed any information out that u need 2 know just ask and il let u know
    thanks a lot

If I dun remember wrongly, there's a switch at the woofer. Try changing that to direct mode.

  • MacBook Pro Unibody (late 2008) crash when using GeForce 9600M GT

Every time I do heavy 3D rendering or play 3D games (such World of Warcraft) with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, after few minutes my MacBook Pro (unibody, late 2008) freezes, black screen and audio looping, no actions possibile, only hard shutdown... No problems with the 9400M.
What should I do? Get a replacement?

I've had mine for a little less than two months and I noticed the overheating shortly after I got it. I think it's mostly because the fans don't spin up soon enough because the SMC controller on mine does not work properly and even if you reset it, it reverts back to only spinning the fans after a cpu/gpu temps over 90 degrees Celsius (almost boiling point!).
Mine is currently in for service but I'm being told that they haven't been able to duplicate the issue so I don't understand what method of testing they are using. I hope they don't keep my computer in repair for a long time. I know that if I fire up the Black & White 2 Demo, Call of Duty 4, or Spore and play for about 10-20 minutes the computer crashes if the fans don't spin up... Apple released a firmware update for the SMC controller but it doesn't apply to my model which is a MacBookPro 5,1 , maybe Apple doesn't realize yet how widespread the fan problem even on the late 2008 model is but it needs to be resolved and a third party utility to control the fans should not be necessary on the finest laptops available on the market. I'm confident that they will come up with something...

  • Macbook Pro Unibody 2008 freezes when switching video cards

I hava a Macbook Pro unibody late 2008 running Snow Leopard and I have noticed that whenever I switch from one video card to another the system completely freezes after a while. It does not happen while doing something specific or intensive. It seems to be completely random. I have searched in forums and found out that other users are experiencing the same issue but I have found no solution yet. Does anyone know of some way to fix this?

    Try resetting your computer's SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may want to download and install AppleJack, a free, open-source utility that runs in Single User Mode and that has sorted out occasional problems with sleep, failure to shut down, etc. on my machines.

  • Macbook Pro Unibody 2008 sleep issue

I have a Macbook Pro Unibody 2008 and I have noticed an issue when closing the lid and putting the computer to sleep. Sometimes it will go to sleep successfully but some other times it won't. If it fails to go to sleep the fans kick in after a while and the computer becomes unresponsive, it won't wake up again and I have to turn it off by pressing the power button for a few seconds. When I turn it on again it shows the white screen without the apple for a while, then restarts by itself once more and then shows the apple and boots normally. Upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard did not make any difference.
The worst part about this issue is that sometimes I won't notice the computer hasn't gone to sleep and I will put it in my carrying bag to go somewhere and when I open the bag again I find that the fans are working at full speed and the computer has reached ridiculous temperatures. One time it got so hot I could barely touch it with my hands! I am quite surprised it was not damaged by the excessive heat...
Does anyone else have this issue? Are there any solutions?
