Playing DivX movies in Quick Time Player 7 Pro in WinVista 64-bit

Hello everyone,
I am just a new comer here and recently purchased iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
I would like to know how I can convert DVD movies and DivX Movies to iPod movies version.
I just upgraded QuickTimePlayer to Pro, some movies can be converted and played but all DivX movies cannot be played. The DivX movies are lack of graphic and the Player asks about the third component which is DivX Codec.
The DivX Player I have right now is Pro and DivX codec is installed in my laptop.
What should I do to play the DivX Movies in QuickTime Player and convert them to iPod Movies?
I also would like to ask about MPEG-2 Component. What is it for? and I am wondering if
I should purchase MPEG-2 component for QuickTime Player 7 Pro to have DVD playing with the player and to be able to convert DVD movies into iPod Touch Movies?
Does it really work?
Can anyone help me?
I am looking forward to hearing from you all.
Thank you very mcuh.
Edmond

I am not an expert in codecs, but I bought the software Amadis DVD to ipod convertor, and it works fine.
It allows you to convert full DVD or even single-video files (AVI, MPEG, etc), and suggest you the codecs required (if you do not have them installed).
I really suggest you this software.

  • Can't play rented movie through quick time player

i've rented a movie and can't watch it with quick time? Isn't this possible or am I forgetting something?

I suspect you have to use iTunes as it manages the authentication of your rental.

  • Itunes will not play movies... To play this movie install quick time

I downloaded itunes on a new computer and it won't play movies.  It keeps giving me the error "This movie requires Quick Time which is not included in this version of itunes.  To play this movie install quick time."  I've installed Quick Time, uninstalled it, installed it again, tried a change and repair trick that I read about but nothing has worked...please anybody help.

Okay ... that's left the field a bit open.
Can you check something for me please? I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Try playing the movie now. Does it play for you without the message?

  • Quick Time Player Pro,

Can anyone tell me how to save a Quick Time Player Pro video clip to a Windows Media Player format?
    compaq   Windows XP Pro

    It depends on your configuration.
If you got FFDshow and Haali Madia Splitter installed on your computer Windows Media Player should be able to playback your video without being exported.
But if you want your video to be in a more 'classic' video format you should not use quicktime pro.
It actually depends on which format you want.

  • HT3775 Quick Time player does not support AVI movies?

I can't play an AVI movie on quick time player. Why?

If you cant play it in QuickTime, then another media player may be more successful. A couple of good options that generally pick up where QuickTime falls short are VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html) and MPlayer OS X Extended (http://www.mplayerosx.ch).

  • Quick Time Player Confusion!

    I am confused.
In SL, every time I right click a movie file, whatever the format, and select "open with" I get a drop down menu headed:
    Quick Time Player Launcher (default).
    What is this?
Below this are listed the other players I have installed (VLC, DivX, RealPlayer, iTunes) INCLUDING Quick Time Player 10.
Is Quick Time Player 10 different from Quick time Player Launcher? It has a different icon in the drop-down list, Quick Time Player 10 Launcher has the default icon. Quick Time Player 10 has an icon I chose for it to assist in my distinguishing between the two (or is it one?) application/s.
In my applications folder there is Quick Time Player 10, but no Quick Time Player Launcher.
And when I select Quick Time Player Launcher from said drop-down list..... Quick Time Player 10 launches!
But, and here's the really confusing part, ALL the movie players I have installed are listed in that drop-down list EXCEPT Quick Time Player 7.
Now, call me old-fashioned, but I prefer Quick Time Player 7.
However, if I want to open a movie using Quick Time Player 7 I have to go to the bottom of the drop-down list, select Other, and navigate through my Applications to reach it.
How do I add Quick Time Player 7 to my drop-down list?
Better still, how do I make Quick Time Player 7 my default movie player?
    Cheers,
    Martin

QT player launcher is an application helper sitting inside QT player 7 which launches QT player 10. you should not see it in the open with menu. it's a known bug that you do see it. but it should not affect the functionality. if it does then reset your launch services database. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.launchservices.plist and run the following terminal command
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
note that this will reset all default programs set to open various file types to the defaults so you might have to change some afterward.

I can't open one Quick Time movie file.  It says: Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized.  Only happens on this one file.  All the others of a two hour shoot are fine.
Any ideas what's happened and is there some way to open that file and retrieve what's on it?

Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.

Hmm, yes. Didn't notice that. Looks like it's still in development. I haven't time right now to check further, but will do later on and report back.
Camtasia 2 for Mac is the video editor I use, but it's payware I'm afraid. You can download a free, full 30-day trial to check it out though, from here, if you want:

Perian 1.2.3 *should* work for both QuickTime & and QTX in Mountain Lion. Regardless of the filetype container, whether it is a Matroska (.mkv) or a .mov. As to the actual encoding of the file (h264, .mp2, whatever..) I have found most play, even older formats.
Even though it's no longer supported and is a dead project, it works just fine. It will load as a System Preference file and adds to the Other category in them.
I think in 10.8 you've still got support for QTX so it may work with that. (in Mavericks, it only works for QT7)
If not, just run QuickTime 7.6.6.

If no luck there, you could also try VLC at http://www.videolan.org

  • How can we make quick time player play all formats like AVI, MKV, MPEG etc?

How can we make quick time player play all formats like AVI, MKV, MPEG etc?

QuickTime supports many different file types & codecs, but not all.   In many cases you can lookup, download & install specific codecs if you need them.
    The following may be helpful:
    Perian
    QuickTime: About Playing AVI Files
QuickTime X: Playback of MPEG2 video
QuickTime 7.6.6  (you may need this if QT X won't play old videos)
QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component (for QT 7.x)
    Windows Media Components for QuickTime
