Playing downloaded movies

Ive downloaded movies from itunes to my ipod. For some reason the movie plays fine from itunes, but from my ipod only the audio will play and just the caption of the movie is pictured. Any ideas?

This kind of issue could be caused by several different factors.
First off, it might have something to do with you being on Windows 98? One of the system requirements for Fifth Generation iPods is that you need to be running either Windows 2000, or Windows CP (or perhaps Vista, although that's not fully compatible with iPods at this time).

Also, a few more details about your problem might help. For example, is your iPod even being recognized in iTunes, or are you getting some sort of error message? If so, please quote exactly what it says.
Or, is iTunes acting in some other kind of strange way, like, it says it has synced with your iPod, while it has not?

ITunes no longer plays downloading movies!?!?

Okay so on the last two movie files I've downloaded from the iTunes store, I've had to wait for them to completely download before they will play at all. It used to be that I could play the movie as far as it was already downloaded. Now, when I click play it goes to a black screen (as if the file started to play but nothing is happening - the play button turns to pause, again as if the file is playing, but the time index does not progress). I can manually seek and see individual frames of the movie (as if paused) but I still cannot get them to play from any time index position (even though I can see the frame).
Perhaps this is simply something that no longer works in the latest version of iTunes but if so then that's quite dissappointing.
I recently upgraded to Lion and I suspect this may be a factor (I don't remember if iTunes was updated at the same time or not). To be honest, so far I'm not at all impressed with Lion - it's quite a bit slower and glitchier than what I've come to expect from Apple (but hopefully there will be patches soon).
Currently my versions are:
Mac OSX: 10.7
iTunes: 10.4
(Just ran software update and it says everything is up to date)
Anyway, if anyone has encountered this or has a possible solution, please post.

Can you begin playback while the movie is downloading?
Yes. How quickly playback begins depends on the on the speed of your Internet connection.

Mac OS X 10.71 was released this afternoon. Run software update again. Maybe it will help.

Grey screen in iTunes when playing downloaded movie

Since the update from 10.7.5 Server ed. to 10.9 Mavericks on my Mini-mac I have problems with the playback of downloaded iTunes movies. The only thing I see is a grey screen. This not only is the case for playback with iTunes, but also for playback of DVD's.
When I want to play the movie on my AppleTV (from the iTunes library on the same mini-mac) it's no problem. On my iMac: same. No problem.
So it must be something on the mini that handles the playback of copy-protected material. I think I need to remove something and get it installed anew, probably something Quicktime related.
Is there anyone that can help me out?

Repair your QuickTime from Control Panel.

Programs n Features (Win7/Vista)
Add n Remove Programs (XP)
Highlight QuickTime and click CHANGE then REPAIR

very often when I'm going to play a downloaded movie my acrobat reader opens and says it can not read the document.

I keep getting an error message when trying to play a movie I've just downloaded. (error message 5103)
The movie evidently downloaded, but will not play....
Any ideas?

TS1389 Can't Play downloaded movies?

I recently wiped out my computer, but had all of my items backed up. The movies that were restored show up in tunes, but i cannot play them. Itunes wants me to authorize my computer, which i already did, but when i try it again, it says that itunes is already authorized, but i cannot play the movie.

Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you also worked through the instructions from the following document?

Playing downloaded movies on an iPad

I purchased a movie on my iPad a week ago. I selected SD and assume it should be downloaded by now but I can't find out how to play it. Probably simple to most of you but not to me. Thanks for any help.

It should have downloaded into the Videos app :
If you can't find it in there then try typing in its name on the spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right) and see if that thinks that it's on there.

I am using iTunes for windows and the recently bought 2 movies, the trailer worked fine , but after download the itunes is not playing the VDO files, its simple black screen. Can someone please help?
No wonder why I dont use Apple. they dont even give support without owning an apple product how cruel is that!

Sorry, unfortunately I can't get it to work now! (Maybe I hadn't gotten it to work before.) If I click a podcast subscription icon, then the little gear "Tools" icon, there's text that says: "When new episodes are available they will be marked as unplayed." So even if I mark a non-downloaded episode as played, the auto-delete when played option doesn't seem to work. If I do mark the episode as "Played" then use my "Delete" key, the message pops up: "Podcast episodes can't be deleted from the feed." So that seems to settle that.

Apple tv stops playing downloaded movies

My Apple TV has a movie downloaded, but when it's played it keeps stopping as if the movie is streaming. Any ideas?

Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

I'm having the same trouble with Night at the Museum Battle for the Smithsonian digital copy. And when I contacted Fox, they didn't seem to have any idea what I was talking about, and said to contact Apple. Now when I get here, all I see is this forum, instead of actual Support. Looks like I won't be getting to use my legally purchased digital movie after all. This is baloney.

This has been an ongoing problem for me too. With my iPad 2 I buy a tv show or rent a movie and it does not show up in the Video App. This is very frustrating (= very upset Apple customer) You spend money to see something remotely, wait along time to download it, potentially incur or use precious minutes with your limited data plan and in the end can not view it. Additionally, the entire process has some severe usability issues. Why do you have to go to another App to see your movies. When you click purchase you should be first presented a download time bar and then either as it is in the midst of being downloaded be able to start watching it and/or after it has been downloaded you should be provided the movie to view it. Not bumped to the landing page of the iTunes App. how stupid is that. So you are there at the landing page for iTunes. Your first inclination is to try to navigate within iTunes to see it. If it is a,TV show that you rented your first inclination is to go to the TV show section. Then form there you will like deduce that you need to go to Purchases. but when you click Purchases it instead takes you first to Music purchases. Then you might see or realize that there is a,TV show tab in the Purchases section, so you go there and and as opposed to showing you a chronological list of most recent individual purchases is defaults to a list of full seasonal TV show purchases, so then you see the seasonal show and it show an iCloud butont to download then entire season, hmm that would suck to then download the entire season, use all your minutes and then not be able to view any show cause even thoses don't show up in the Apple video App. I mean come on this really terrible, TERRIBLE useability.
So I have gone to the Apple Video App and nothing shows. I have done a search from the Apple search you can access when swiping right from the initial page of App icons. I actually see the TV show name listed from the title name search I do. And indeed it shows an associated Video App icon but when I click it momentarily (split second looks to be loading the video App and then crashes? And takes me back to the first screen of App icons.
So I simply can not watch any show with ITunes.
Netflix on the hand make the entire process a one click experience.

Play rented movie on Itune

I have rented a movie from Itune store and downloaded the movie to my PC that works on windows system. How to PLAY the rented movie on Itunes. I could not find any way to play downloaded movie to Itune?

There is some troubleshooting for error code 42110 on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 :
"Error 3001," "-42110," or "5103"
This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.
