Playing DVD clips with Keynote

Greetings,
I'm trying to figure out a way to have movie clips play from within Keynote '08 without having to leave and use an outside program like DVD Player. Is this possible? Thanks.

Hi. I have been putting together a KN presentation with quite a few movie clips (see my other current posts). My process is to use QTPro to make a selection and save that to a folder (called Movie Edits) in .mov format.
Putting them into KN is simple: you can just drag them into a place holder on any slide as you would an image file. The issue I am experimenting with at the moment is whether to have all the movies embedded in the KN file or to leave them all 'outside'. Be warned: you have to make this decision right at the start of creating your presentation. Create a new presentation and do "save as..." with with relevant box unchecked. Once you've started saving the project with movies embedded, you can't get them out and your KN document may bloat unacceptably.
The advantage of leaving them outside is you get a smaller KN file which is quicker on Open and Saves. The disadvantage is that the presentation is stuck on your computer and you can't move the movie edit files around or rename them. On the other hand you can always do another 'Save as...' when the project is complete and this time elect to embed all media files.

  • Play dvd created with iDVD won't play in QuickTime

    Hi!
Just a simple question:is it possible to play the dvds I created with idvd in quicktime? and if so, how?
If not, are there any other players one could recommend for detailed video analysis and coding? Ideally I need to be able to forward to a specific time and to take notes at the same time (would need that for my research project).
I can not open the dvd with QuickTime, even when I set it as the default player in system preferences.
The only thing that works are VCL and the pre-installed DVD player.
I have QuickTime Player Version 7.1.3.
and the movies are downloaded from my digital camera with iMovie 6 and then exported and burned with iDVD 6
    Many thanks!!!

Yes and no. QT does not play DVD material (VOBs in VIDEO_TS folder) natively. In order to play the video portion of the "muxed" data stream requires the purchase of Apple's MPEG-2 QT component ($20). Even then, most commonly used "muxed" audio formats are not supported. Since QT does not properly handle/convert this material, Apple included the DVD Player as you have already mentioned. This application will play both DVDs and VIDEO_TS folder VOBs on your HDD.

MPEG Streamclip (a free MPEG based third-party application), will also play VOB files (single or multiple file series), allow scrubbing to a particular time, select segments, and, if you have the QT MPEG-2 component installed, perform minor edits, apply "on-the-fly" filters for bightness, contrast, saturation, volume, de-interlace, crop/scale, etc. as it converts to QT compatible formats (if your iMovie projects are no longer available) or third-party formats for which you may have other installed components. While it will provide limited "stream" information, I would not call it an analytical tool. (E.g., provides audio/video information like formats average data rates, audio sampling rate, etc. but not graph/read things like an instantaneous data rate -- something I have been seeking.)

  • X-Fi DD-DTS doesn't seem to work right playing DVD Movies with VLC Player or anything els

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! I get Dolby Digital surround no problem..Why in the heck does it not want to play DVD's using the A/52 over S/PDIF or any AC3 Encoded Files? What's the deal? And I am using windows XP Pro SP2 yadda yadda yadda?Message Edited by mbrown0420 on 07-25-20070:58 PM

  • Playing DVD-Audios with an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

I have a system built around an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard.  I'm using the motherboard's onboard sound, and I have it connected to a 5.1 speaker system.  Using WinDVD 6 Platinum, I can play regular DVDs just fine, with awesome surround sound.  However, when I try to play DVD-Audios, I only get stereo sound.  Anyone have any suggestions?
    A.J.

DVD video sound format AC3 5.1 and DVD-Audio sound format is not the same .
DVD-Audio disks has also a video AC3 5.1 track and stereo track , set yor sw player to use AC3 and see if it helps.
E.g a soundblaster Audigy ZE , or X-FI can render DVD-Audio , but not the onboard sound on Neo4.

  • Playing ProRes Clips with Quicktime

Is there a Quicktime plugin/update that will allow me to play ProRes clips in QT player? (I have not upgraded to FCS2 yet; waiting for new Mac Pro)
AND will I need FSC2 to convert a ProRes clip to H.264 for web in Compressor?
    Thanks.

You could probably use SnapzPro X2 ( http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ ) to capture the clips as they play on your desktop.

  • How play video clips with LabVIEW in Windows 7?

I previously had the ability to play a video clip from my LabVIEW program.  Now, with the same program in two operating systems, Windows XP and Windows 7, both versions work, but the Windows 7 version will not save.  On trying to save it, I get the following error message: "LabVIEW Generic error.  Cannot save VI ... • Superdrive won't load blanks but plays DVD DL with lectures

The Superdrive in my MacBookPro3,1 will automatically mount and play a commercially recorded, double layer DVD (containing lectures).
But it will not mount a commercially-recorded stereo music CD or blank disks formatted as CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R.  They will spin up to low rpm and the head can be heard searching, but then they spin down.  That will repeat two time (perhaps three), then the drive spins down and rejects the disk automatically.
What would cause that and how can it be fixed?
FYI: The optical drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-857R with Firmware Revision HR01

Is it more fussy than the superdrive in my iMac or my MacBook? They don't have the same problems.
Good question. That's kinda the problem with "fussy": you never know when it has crossed into defective.
If I had a full height tray-loading external drive that was as fussy as my superdrive, I would call it defective. But when they squeeze everything into a third-height slot-loader, then the same behavior apparently becomes "fussy".
You might check your three superdrives with System Profiler and see if they are the same model and firmware. Somehow I doubt it.
Your mini's superdrive may well have crossed from fussy to defective. Let the store have a look at it.

  • I cant get HD DVD clip with a simple Ps menu

    Hello all,
Encore is driving me nuts. am trying to get an HD quality movie. I have 4GB of RAM.
In Encore, I only have one menu with a video background created in AE. The menu is imported from Photoshop, supposed to be HD at 1920 x 1080. It looks fine in Encore resolution wise. Then when I export to DVD folder, the quality is horrible. I clicked edit menu in Photoshop, then made the menu twice as big, Encore recognizes the changes and the resolution is further enhanced in the menu, but the DVD export yields the same results, and identical file size no matter what the res. of the menu is. I went up to 7680 x 4320...same story. I changed the pixel aspect ratio from square to 1.333, didnt do a thing, I changed the projects settings bit rate from 8 to 9.4...same thing. Please help.
    Thanks
    Raffi

Hello Ruud, thanks for your reply.
It is a DVD project indeed, but I am a little lost when it comes to HD vs SD. I am given no option to select any when creating a DVD, I think they are only available for Blu-ray?
One more note, when I export to blu-ray, the resolution is much better, am using 1920 width. The problem is I dont have a blue-ray burner, so I burn to a blu-ray folder. Encore creates loads of sub folders inside the main one. The only files I can play are inside a folder called Stream and they have a .m2ts extension. When I play any of those, the buttons wont work. Any suggestions?

I know because I downloaded three different media players with the codes that were needed. Still would not play. Because HP software blocks it.  Long as your CD/DVD ( E. <SPAN>Hi,
<SPAN>I have search but nothing found in the forum so I post my problem.
<SPAN>I have bought the Trust 7. Home Theatre System 80B which is connected to the Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS. Running on Windows XP SP2.
<SPAN>When I play a DVD with support for THX the sound is awesome. <SPAN>But when I start a game which also has support of THX then is the sound in the game very bad:
    <SPAN>No Sub sound</LI>
    <SPAN>The sound is very shrill</LI>
<SPAN>And only sound is from the left and right front speaker</LI>
<SPAN>Also is there a crackling noise in place with much ambient (connecting 2 normal speakers gives no crackling sound)</LI>
<SPAN>Although the speaker THX test in the Creative Volume is successful, which means that all the speakers are connected well, the volume control from Windows XP has no slidebars to control al the volume from the different channels. Also is the default sound when Windows XP is starting only from the left and right front speakers and the noise is low.
<SPAN>Why is playing a DVD good, and the sound in the game not?
    <SPAN>I hope for help.
    <SPAN>Regards,

THX isn't a sound format, just a certification that the audio streams combined with THX processor and speakers will give the best result from the point of view of mister Lucas.
Your sound is crackling because of bad configuration, or bad driver installation.
Read the knowledge base and the forum for optimizing sound quality and installation.

  • How to play DVD-Audio with Mac mini?

I tried to search the forums but didn't find any answers...
Mini is my only machine on living room I'm using for music, videos etc.
Apple's DVD Player won't even open the disc, but says it's "invalid format".
VLC does open the disc, but only outputs 2ch stereo in dolby surround I think.
I have an DVD-A disc with DTS 6.1 ES mix.
    Thank you for any help!

Got a partial solution by ripping the DVD with MactheRipper and then opening with Apple's DVD Player. This of course means that I have to burn a copy or keep the ripped version on my hard disk...

  • A small logo of Dolby Digital or DVD-Audio missing when play DVD-A or DVD software with SPDIF

I can see these logo before when I play DVD-A or play DVD movies with SPDIF enabled on DVD software such as PowerDVD. And now it's gone, when play SPDIF, it does not show these logos at all.
    I appreciate any advises.
    Thanks

for the logos, someone asked how to know what kind of signal his card was decoding. I provided 2 examples:
    http://shingoyab.free.fr/creative/dolby.jpg
    http://shingoyab.free.fr/creative/dts.jpg
if you don't see them but hear correct surround sound, don't bother. On some situation (not determined which one though) the logo disapears. I lost them some rare times. Last times was when listening to some DD music when programming small homeworks in OpenGL.

  • Won't play dvds

    Hi
My Mac mini no long plays any DVDs! Running OS 10.6.7 on a 1GB Intel Mini bought in July '09. Help!
    Thanks in advance...
    D.

My computer mechanic was here a few days ago because I thought a new drive might help solve this problem with DVD Player not reading DVD-RW discs. I'd ordered an
    internal superdrive update.
His conclusion was that a new drive would not help.
Also, when Mac's DVD Player 5.2 plays DVD+RW discs, the closed captioning will not come up. This bothers me because I'm hard-of-hearing.
I downloaded VLC Player and it will play DVD+RWs with closed captioning. I'll make do with VLC until Apple updates DVD Player to play both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs and show closed captioning with both disc styles.
