Playing files in sequence?

Reposting, my message got buried while forums were down for maintenance.
I have several audio books that I am trying to listen to on the new nano 6g. It seems that when one chapter is done playing, it restarts the same chapter instead of moving on to the next one in sequence. I have disabled shuffle, which I have never liked, but with the new design, it doesn't seem like there is a universal shuffle off setting, just the shake featue. I don't want ANY shuffle. How can I get this thing to play files in ORDER?
thanks

These audiobooks have all their options set to be treated as audiobooks? So if you "Get Info" on the audiobook tracks in iTunes, under "Options" it says the media kind is audiobook, it is set to save last played position, etc?

This is an interesting topic. Nobody dares to believe that Java can do good sound. I got all hooked up and studied it for an hour. I hope you or another will be able to use what I've found. It seems credible that Java have some great audio capabilities, but I haven't tested them all yet.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/sound/playing.html
has a great general introduction to sound in applications versus applets.
If you are dealing with a limited set of sound files that you want to incorporate in, say, a game, convert them to .au or .wav files or another that can be read by the AudioClip class. A great conversion tool that I've used for some time is Goldwave. Fetch at at

Java Media Framework can do more than that, it can stream audio and do other stuff too. The procedure is as follows:
    1. Download JMF
    2. import javax.media.*;
    3. make a Manager
    4. get a Player from the Manager
    5. play something

  • [iPhone SDK] Playing a timed sequence of sound files

I need to play a timed sequence of sound files, meaning one file after another (potentialy overlapping) with a predefined amount of time between each file (without blocking the UI). I know I can use a thread pool and timers to accomplish it but is that the best way?

    Hi,
Im having a similar problem and i was wondering if you were able to get a solution??
    Thanks for your help.

  • Unable to play back entire sequence in CS4

I'm transitioning from FCP to Premiere and am having an odd issue with a project. I cut up a clip with the razor blade tool, copied it a few times, reversed some in the speed/duration panel and arranged them in a sequence. I then rendered the entire work area. However, when I try to play back my sequence, it just plays less than a second and then the marker on the timeline returns to the original point. I feel stupid asking this, but...uh, how do I just play back my entire sequence? I must be missing something here.
    Thanks,
    Zach

Thanks for the suggestion.  I thought this could have been the problem as the files are on a different disk from the application, but launching premiere as root yields the same issue.  The option to repair permissions on the secondary drive (where the files are located) is greyed out in Disk Utility, possibly because I disabled permissions for everything on that disk.  I even tried logging in as a user on that drive and launching Premiere, but then I get a "media pending" screen in the program window.
    Any more ideas?

  • Playing movies in sequence?

Is it possible to create "playlists" similar to iTunes in QT so that QT will play a lists of movies in sequential order, i.e.; dragging a file into QT and having it play all the movies in that file? How can I control the play back: Skip to next movie, etc...?

    Thanks for the info,
I'll try Xine and NICE players. I like VLC but it doesn't play all WMV files (even with Flip4Mac). Anyone tried the Automator? I've used it with varing success to create a "workflow" and send movie files to Quicktime. However, the files seem to play out of sequence and I'm not sure how to correct the problem...

  • Play MC full sequence

How can I make my MC play its full sequence in frame 1 of the
main timeline? at the moment I have to adjust the layer in the main
time line to the same time as in the MC or it will only play the
    first frame.
Also - my flash presentation is made up of several swf files
    - but the at moment they play the whole sequence and then loop to
the beginning again - how can I make it stop when the last swf has
    been played?
    Any advice would be great.

As soon as there is a blank frame or no frame after that MC,
    any content on previous
frame of the same layer will be discontinued. You need to
    hold the timeline till the
movie clip stop playing or give it enough frame to run along
    the timeline.

Place a stop action on the last frame of the last SWF.

  • I have transferred all my music from iTunes onto my USB to play on my car audio radio. The radio reads the music but does not play it in sequence. There is a specific way to save the music into folders and name them. I have a Pioneer DEH-2350UBSW.

I have transferred all my music from iTunes onto my USB to play on my car radio. The radio reads the music but does not play it in sequence. So it plays certain folders, then it skips folders. in certain folders it skips tracks. apparently there is a specific way to save the music into folders onto the USB with regard to naming the tracks and folders.. I have a Pioneer DEH-2350UBSW. Can anyone please help.

It is a stick, Cruzer Blade 16gig.
In the manual it says the following about the USB storage device:
    1. Playable folder hierarchy is up to 8 tiers
    2. Playable folders up to 500
    3. Playable files up to 15 000
Under sequence of audio files it says that the user cannot assign folder numbers and specify playback sequences with this unit. It also gives an example of a hierarchy:
    01 - folder
Under that is 02 which is also a folder
Under that are compressed audio files 01 to 05: folder number
Under that there is another folder same concept as above - I have attached that part of the manual in this response.
I named my folder - Folder 001 Artists name and then in that folder I added the tracks as:
    001 Song title
    002 song title
It played the 1st song in the folder and skipped to the next folder, I can't even locate the other tracks.
On another folder I saved 31 songs but only 29 played so I am not sure whether there is a limit.
All I need is an example of how to number and name everything.

  • Mplayer can't play files with spaces in their name

After scratching my head and reinstalling codecs several times without luck, and old memory resurfaced of this occuring before and I managed to solve the problem.
The thing is that if you doubleclick a file in Nautilus, and said files has spaces in its name, mplayer won't be able to play it, and gives a very cryptic error message, ie "cannot play file a%20b.avi" if the name of the file is "a b.avi".
The trick is mentioned in this thread -- you edit /usr/share/applications/mplayer.desktop and change 'Exec=gmplayer %U' to 'Exec=gmplayer %F'.
The bug has been around forever, and hasn't been fixed yet. Perhaps the mplayer devs don't want to fix it. In any case, I would propose that either we fix this in the mplayer Arch package, or that someone more knowledgeable than I get in touch with the devs about it.
Just a suggestion, but I think it's kind of important. It's really confusing to new users.

In my opinion, it it's not arch's job to fix bugs from upstream, no matter if it's mplayer or gnome's fault. Of course there are exceptions, eg if a bug in a critical package hardlocks the whole system, or adds a huge security risk.
I would like to belive that the general arch user is smart enough to find one of the 30 threads about this bug (or the entry on the bugtracker) and fix it themselves. Personaly I would put this in the same category as packages that don't have a .desktop file at all from upstream.
Oh, and as a small sidenote: http://phraktured.net/patching-patching-patching.html

  • Playing Files off My Creative Zen Vision:M 30 GB On my Compu

Yes Id like to be able to listen to the music off my zen on my computer, I know theres a player but id like to get something more simple and more straight foward. Something simular to windows media player, or that might even due. Ive tried though to play files from my mp3 player on windows media player , and it just wont show the songs.. Maybe someone can help me with that. But does anyone know something like windows media player i could use for my zen? The reason im doing this is so i can save some space on my computer. But like i said, I can play the files using the creative browser, but its just not what i want. So does anyone have some solutions?

Yeah I tryed that, it wouldnt work :/
But I lost the cd, so I downloaded off creative's site in the support section. And it doesnt work for me. Maybe if I resinstall it, it might work. Ill try that real quick. But in the mean time do you know if you can get it to work in windows media player exactly like that? What you said was exactly what I was looking for, but I was just hoping there would be a way to do it in windows media player. Because I got all these plugins and such id just like to use it in there.
Edit: I got it to work on the creative media source. Its just not what i want.. Is there a way to get it to work on windows media player?Message Edited by _brandon on 05-6-200708:09 PM

  • Processing files in Sequence using FTP Adapter

    Hi Experts,
I have searched several forums but i am not clear on  how to process the files using FTP Adapter based on Timestamp.
To process the files in sequence i.e, FIFO using FTP Adapter
i have the files with file name customer and timestamp :  customer<yyyyMMddHHmmss>
there are around 50 files in the FTP server llike this.
I need to process these files acording to the timestamp and place the files in same processing sequence in the receiver end using the file adapter.
If i specify the parametes in sender FTP Adapter as
    Qos= EOIO
    Queue name = ACCOUNT
Whether these parameters would do the processing in sequence according to the Timestamp?
Suppose if the queue ID for Inbound(SMQ2) is XBTI0_ACCOUNT then whether it will be the same for Outbound(SMQ1)?
Kindly suggest me how to process the files in sequence according to the Timestamp using FTP Adapter
    Please reply..
    Thanks
    Sai

    Hi Shabarish,
But this would require one more additional channel to process
So i think it will take more time to process.
Let me clarify my question once again.
I need to Pick the files from FTP server based on their TimeStamp and in sequence.
the file names are like this Customer<YYYYMMDDHHmmSS>.
suppose i have 3 files as
    Customer20050413044534
    Customer20050414053430
    Customer20050315034533
So i need to pick these files in this order and place the files in the same order to the receiver end(File Adapter)
    Customer20050315034533
    Customer20050413044534
    Customer20050414053430.
As i am using FTP sender adapter i cannot use processing sequence "By Date".
    please suggest me on this.
    Thanks
    Sai.

As the last post suggests, call Apple and order a replacement original disc for about $17.  They will ask you the model and serial numbers.
Your retail version of Snow Leopard OS 10.6.3 will not work on that Mac as it requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.7 to boot and operate.
Another alternative is to again borrow another Mac to install your retail Snow Leopard into an external HD or partition, upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then clone it back to a partition on your MBP.

  • TS4124 playing songs in sequence in a playlist

in a Playlist - songs listed do not play in a sequence --

    Hello ggmaxrpm
Check to make sure that you do not have shuffle turned on. Just tap the screen when you are playing music to bring up the additional control options. Then just make sure that the shuffle icon is not blue.

  • Get the ipad to display my photos in file name sequence

How can I get the ipad to display my photos in file name sequence instead of by time/date stamp? I want to display them in a particular sequence controlled by the filename I gave them.

    Hey Tex,
Good idea.  I've found a question that indicates that the ipad sorts by name (https://discussions.apple.com/message/9116248#9116248).  Mine are all sorted by date/time.  How did they do that?
The app you suggested looks promising, but it sounds like i have to manually rearrange my pictures, and since i have hundreds in each folder, this would be tedious.  Is there an app that will allow me to display them by filename w/o me having to rearrange them myself??
    Thanks.

  • Trouble playing files from Airdisk (wireless)

My wife and I regularly watch downloaded TV programs via my Powerbook G4. No Frontrow, no remote. My media library is set up as an Airdisk, and we patch the Powerbook to the TV and play files via Mplayer, as its buffer allows stable playback.
I was very excited to get a new MacBook Pro last week, and we were expecting to be able to play files via Frontrow stutter-free with wireless N, and (finally) have the luxury of a remote. No such luck.
Here are the problems I have been encountering:
    1) Frontrow drops frames and eventually freezes playback of files located on the Airdisk, usually after about 10 minutes.
    2) Frontrow often kills the network connection to the Airdisk when I try to access the files via the Frontrow interface (alias in Movies). Airdisk will be dropped from my "Shared" items in Finder, and remain unaccessible until I power cycle base station.
    3) Frontrow freezes, and I am forced to hard power cycle.
Is there any way to buffer playback to frontrow? I expect I am not the only user with this setup, is anyone else able to play video with Frontrow wirelessly via Airdisk?
    Thanks!

i restarted itunes and my atv2 (i was watching netflix at the time) went back to the menu as if it was disconnected from the network. however, this couldnt be repeated so maybe it was a spurious thing.
anyway, the music now plays just fine from my ipad and mbp.
its the video that will not work.
i noticed that i had to chnage the file extension of some files to "m4v" to be able to put them on the ipad (others transferred as "mp4) so i didnt know if this mattered. i was under the impression that as long as an audio or video file opened and played in itunes it could be played on any apple device (ipod, ipad, iphone, atv, etc). is this correct? if not, what format to i use when converting video to watch on my ipad or stream to atv2? i want to put my home movies on m tv as background when i am studying or otherwise occupied but just need something in the back ground.

  • How can I play files that are possibly corrupt (play fine in other apps)?

I have these three mp3 files that I am trying to add to itunes so that I can add them to my ipod. They play fine on winamp and I've listened to the entire song on each track without any problems. Itunes will not let me add them to the library though. It doesn't give me an error message, it simply doesn't add them. I've cleared my entire library and tried adding only these 3, by drag and drop as well as the file browser, and I'm certain that they simply do not appear in the library. Is there any way to fix the corrupt part of these files, or have itunes just ignore it and try playing them anyway?

iTunes is very fussy about tags and sometimes will not play files other players accept.
There are vearious things you could try, but backup any files before experimenting on them.
You could try an MP3 repair tool:
    http://www.drtag.de/en/description_mp3rt.htm
MP3 Tag Studio also claims repair capabilities.
    http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/
    Remove iD3 tags

Foobar2000 has tag removal and add capabilities
