Playing FLV from CD-ROM

When running long a FLV from CD-ROM the seek times
are terrible. Sometimes taking a full 3-4 minutes to seek
near the end of a 160x120 - 30 minute movie for example.
And that is on a 3ghz machine.
How can this be reduced to approx. 3-5 seconds?
This is what our customers expect from video.
They need to bounce around the video rapidly.
Also, splitting the FLV into smaller clips is not a solution
and we can't we install to the hard drive.
Thanks.

HI
This is because of CD-ROM's cache. Heres a way to resolve
these issues.

  • FLV play reliably from CD-ROM?

Can a FLV video w/ a frame size of 800x450 reliably play off
of a CD-ROM? (It has a simple voiceover audio track, and will be
around 5 minutes long. The FLV will be embedded in an 800x600 flash
movie.). This is being produced for mass distribution with full
motion video being intersperced with 3D animations. Any
    suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Flash player will not play flvs from folder with name containing non-Roman Chars

We're trying to play flash as part of a program that can be installed to locations including non-Roman chars (European, Arabic, Chinese, etc.).  When the installation path includes any non Roman chars, video will not play.  The non-roman chars are garbled when Flash tries to load the flvs. Correct non-Roman chars are: ńśćłł.  When loading video it gets translated to: ńśćłł

Not exactly sure what you are doing, but it is obvious that some part of the program you are running does not support multibyte characters like Unicode.
If you are developing that application, make sure it is Unicode enabled.  If it is Flash (or Flash Player) that doesn't understand it, then you may not be able to do anything about it.
What I would try if I were to encounter the situation, I would try to use the DOS (8.3) path names, like C:\Documents and Settings would normally be C:\DOCUME~1 or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users would be C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1 etc.
Use the DIR /X command to find out what the DOS folder names are.

  • How to play flv files

My computer can play flv from sites like youtube but when I
have the file on my desktop and try to open it directly with I this
will not work. It does work with SWF files though. So, the
    questions are:
    - Can I get IE to play the FLV files?
    - Is there a way to get Media player to play them?
    - Is there a standalone player which will play them?
    - Is there a way to convert them to AVI?

  • Flash CS5 unable to play .FLV files on Macbook Pro

I have a colleague who is trying to put together a Flash package for me  on her macbook pro.  It needs to play an flv file. She is unable to play  flv files on her computer either in Flash or using the Adobe Media  Player. I have no problem playing the same files on my macbook pro,  we're both running the latest OS and have version 1.8 of Adobe Media  Player.
She went to the Adobe site to download the latest version of Adobe  Media Player, hoping that might include whatever component is missing on  her system. Because of Adobe's decision not to distribute AMP that  didn't help.  She has Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2 on her system.  When  she imports an flv video into a Flash project and tries to play it she  gets an error message saying it can't stream the video. Note that the  video is on her hard drive, it is NOT on the internet so no streaming  should be required.
The actual error message is: "the video player is in the connection  error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load  but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no  connection to the server or the stream was not found."
Since it's a file on her hard drive, and she has loaded the file  into the Adobe development environment successfully, the one thing we  know for certain is that neither of these reasons is correct. Something  is obviously missing on her system, what is it and what can we do to fix  it?

I'm getting error too (Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound). I'm getting this with CS5. This file was previously made in CS4 and never got this error.
Everything (fla and flv too) is on external hard disk.
As this work requires to be exported to mov, I've found out that everything needs to be on the mac (don't know for pc), like on desktop.
So, let me wrap up disadvantages I got with Flash CS5:
    - TextField.embedFont makes the font disappear in CS5, so I can't use it, so I can't "play" with text in a comfortable way (in CS4, with embedFont = true, I was able to rotate and stuff). Now I have to make a bitmap out of it. It means 3 lines of code and a new variable, instead of just an easy one.
    - I have to rebuild my entire source path structure for AS classes, as my old one (that took me years of effort to be reasonable and used to work just fine in CS4).
    - I have to move stuff from my hard drive to the desktop, to make flv be played and to make a mov out of my animation.
CS5 is making my job harder and making me lose a lot of time to find out errors that have no good reason to exist (it was not error. just "place CS5 doesn't like").

  • Is there a way to play flv & mkv file formats through media element in windows 8.1 app ?

i am trying to develop a video player so i just thought Is there a way to play flv & mkv file formats through media element in windows 8.1 app ? , coz when i tried media element it is supporting only mp4 & avi formats.

Here is a list of Media Foundation codecs
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757927(v=vs.85).aspx
For the rest of the formats you have you write your own MFT-based codec and ship the codec with your app. See also
    implementing a Codec MFT (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757274(v=vs.85).aspx)
    Media extensions sample (https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Media-extensions-sample-7b466096)
MKV and FLV are just container formats, though, you need to survey some video files to see what video codecs are actually in streams and support them one by one. Supporting some proprietary video formats may involve licensing costs from patent holders.

  • Playing 1080p from macbook pro to hdtv?

    hello,
i have a mac book pro original:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

    SMC Version: 1.12f5
    Serial Number: W86520FFW0H
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
i'm currently downloading a blue ray movie...i know mac's cannot play blue ray, although it is a .m2ts file, and i hear you can play those files with VLC
because my laptop is 15', the movie aspect ratio is later than the screen itself
i'm using an hdmi to dvi cable to link my computer to my hdtv...
how would be the best way of playing back this video, retrieving the highest video quality?
i feel if i make it full screen on my laptop and mirror the exact screen to my tv its not going to be full 1080p, althought if i make it dual monitor mode and then play it from the tv's monitor it will be able to be full rez?
    any suggestions would be great
    thanks

    hello,
    thanks for the reply,
i go to film school, and it is someone's original content he is sharing.
that's nice to hear that it will push out the 1080p.
i suppose when i'm in extended desktop mode i just have to set up the menu>video>full screen from the tv and not the laptop monitor?
also i have tried to just close the laptop lid and move my wireless mouse around but my hdtv's screen remained black
one last question if that's alright! - have you heard anything on VLC playing m2ts files? i heard from somewhere it can, but havent found much info on it
    thanks so much

  • Temporary solution to play flv files on nokia n8 h...

Solution for playing flv video files from nokia N8
    Following are the steps
    1) Open the file
    2) Quickly tap the screen, and move the volume key up and down
    3) again tap the screen
and that's all, now enjoy the video as you did prior to belle .
note: this is just a temporary soln, sometimes it fails to play, though you can keep trying it.

    Dears,
If the phone is connected to internet via GPRS of WLAN, the flv file can be played
If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white star at bottom right of screen would always be appreciated.
However if my answer also solves your problem clickingbelow it will benefit other users!

  • Flash Player 10.2.152.32 won't play FLV file

I seem to be having similar problems to several others here.
I am running Windows XP, SP3, 32 bit on Dell Pentium 4, 2Gigs of RAM, 3.0Gig HD.
Since the March 8, 2011 update I have not been able to play FLV files.  Previous to the upgrade, I was able to play these same files.
I have checked - Shockwave Flash Object (VS 8.0.24.0) is apparently installed and enabled, although it DOES NOT show up in the file list (that I can tell at least) in the System32/Macromedia folder.  It may be called something else perhaps?  These are the files that show as updated on March 8, 2011.
    Flash10n.ocx - Active X Control
    FlashInstall - text file
    FlashUtil10n_ActiveX - application
    FlashUtil10n_ActiveX.dll - application extension
    Files with previous dates are:
    flashplayer.xpt - XPT file, install - text document - dated Feb 17, 2010, NPSWF32.dll - dated Nov. 20, 2007, and NPSWF32_FlashUtil - also dated Nov. 20, 2007.
I can play stuff from YouTube.  I am able to see the Flashy thing turn on the link you supplied to others here.
My security is set to "Medium".  I have had NO virus issues, and run a VERY tight anti-virus protocol with AVG, AdAware and SpyBot all active, updated either daily (automatically) or weekly (manually).
Should I uninstall and then re-install, so the SFO will be included, or is there a way to retrieve the (apparently) missing Shockwave Flash Object file on its own?  This issue has now taken up my entire evening, and I am ready to PERMANENTLY delete Flash from my life!
    Thanks,

Hi, you don't need to scream at me. I've been on the Forum 12 hours today and 12 hours yesterday helping users with their problems. This past week I had over 1,000 email notifications in my email account and 90% were from the Flash Player Forum.
    And this:Let's try again..........arrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
Please don't insult me and act like I don't know what I'm doing or talking about.
The Shockwave Flash Object is not supposed to be in the System32 ...Flash file location. It is never there. It is always in the addons of the browser, it must be since it is the Flash Player Control. Without it and without it being the correct version(which yours is not) Flash Player cannot work! I repeat, Flash Player is a browser plugin and works thru the browser.
The fact that you have a 32bit OS doesn't tell me anything about what browsers you use. I have a 32bit OS, but I use IE6 on one and the other PC I use IE8.
I know you checked some of my posts, I'm not so dumb that I don't recognize my own writing.
Yes, you need to Uninstall and Install again, that is the only way you are going to have the correct SFO Installed.
If you'd tone it down some, I may give you the best way to do that in order to be successful in that.
However, it won't be tonight. Maybe you'll be in a better mood tomorrow.

  • Progressive Flash Not playing properly from remote server

    I have Flash CS3.
    PROBLEM: I've encoded a video using Flash's CS3 "Progressive
Download" option and then uploaded the resulting video (along with
it's associated files created by Flash ie: .fla, .swf, script
folder with action script, etc.) to my server (webpage and video
    was created through Dreamweaver CS3).
RESULT: A flash video that plays on the web, but has pink
colored digital boxes that breakup the picture... poor quality.
Please follow this link for an example:
    http://rivhawk.tripod.com/index.html
I've watched multiple step-by-step tutorials by Adobe for
creating and uploading Flash video, both with Flash CS3 and even
Dreamweaver CS3. I've tested by creating the flash content in Flash
CS3 and directly through Dreamweaver. The same digital noise, pink
    blocks occured.
NOTE: Before uploading the flash content and associated
files, I tested the flash video in my browser through Dreamweaver
(from my local directory, not remote server)...and it
plays/operates perfectly. It's only once it's uploaded that the
    problem occurs.
I've encoded the video with Flash 8 and Flash 9 at low,
medium and high qualities...same results (even by different
computers accessing the content on the internet). It happens in
    Firefox and Internet Explorer.
After 3 days of tests and research (and viewing samples of
other beautiful progressive download videos on the internet) I'm
wondering if I am missing something very simple, if there is a bug,
is this a known issue etc.
Please help, and please understand that I've been through all
the tutorials on creating/using Flash Video...and specifically
using the Progressive Download option for use on remote servers
that don't have the Flash Media Server.
    Please assist.

You can play video from any server by using a full URL ie
    http://www.anotherdomain.com/flashvideo.flv
    <param name="movie" value="videos/rep.swf" />
Looks like you're building an FLV player in Flash to play
    your video rather
than embedding it using DW. If so you need to open the source
    FLA you used
to generate 'rep.swf' and insert a full URL to your flv file,
    then publish
    the swf and upload again.
    > I've tried changing the value and embed source tags to
    be complete urls
    > referencing the actual video location, but I still get
    an error saying the
    > flv
    > file cannot be found. Is there a way to do what I'm
    requesting?
As above, or you can just embed the video on a web page in
    DW, using a full
URL to your flv. If your flvs are on a server and you are
    connected to the
internet, you should be able to play the flv using preview in
    browser before
    uploading the page.

  • FLV from ByteArray

I'm trying to load and play an FLV from a ByteArray in AS3.
Let me try to explain better. I have a local FLV that is
encrypted. I can load it using an loader and decrypt it but i don't
find any way to pass the bytearray to anywhere that plays it.
I have searched the web for awnsers and didn't have any luck

I'm thinking in extending the INCManager and find some way to

I only solution i have found until now is to write the

  • Random FLV from an SMIL Playlist

I have been trying to find a way to randomly select an flv
file to play in a 400x100 signature I have for some of my forums.
There is no user control on this swf besides onRollOver to start
the flv and onRollOut to pause it. What I want to achieve is
whenever the swf is loaded that it will randomly select an flv from
a playlist. From what I have read, SMIL is the best format to use
with FLVPlayback. All I should be needing to do is typing in the
SMIL URL into the concenturl inside the properties of the
FLVPlayback. However, this doesnt work. I also haven't a clue how
to actually randomize it. I could not find anything regarding the
required code used in SMIL to randomize the playlist.
Any help, hints and clues would be very appreciated as this
has stumped me for quite some time.

If I am listening to my Shuffle in random/shuffle
order and come to a song from an album I want to hear
more of, can I switch it to Playlist order and hear
the rest of the songs in order of the playlist?
I believe that's the way it's supposed to work... WHY not TRY it?

Can I ask how do you play .FLV files on Nokia C7? I searched for FLV player in the Ovi Store and nothing is returned, whereas on Android Market loads of FLV players are available.

I couldn't find an FLV player either. But you can download freemake video converter from internet. Its really a very good converter and I transfer my vids to C7 only after converting to C7 resolution because it makes the processor to do less work. If you transfer an HD vid directly to phone it will play fine but will cost u battery life. (more processor usage)

I'm trying to load and play an FLV from a ByteArray in Air application . I have created small dummy application in  which l am readiong flv from file system .After reading flv file i have byte array so can you please help me out in thi how to p-lay flv from byte array.
I have searched the web for awnsers and didn't find anything .
    Any help, ideas or something?

    Hi Giuseppe,
    what I do is:
    1. create a file using Captivate
    2. i place a .flv video in this file
    3. save the file as .swf
    4. then i go to dreamweaver and put the swf on a html page.
    Now:
when viewed in a browser, everything runs fine.
when i pack this page into an air application (in dreamweaver) the video does not appear,
instead I get this "Connection Error"
I do not know a console or log file.
However, I learned that there is a .xml file located in the same AIR folder that you publish in.
In this .xml file there is a setting :transparency. in order to playt a .flv file this must not be be "transparent"!
(i read this somewhere in the net)
    hope that helps
