Playing game in a specific space

How do I play a game in a space as opposed to it taking up the whole screen. I want to be able to be online and toggle to a specific space to play the game. Someone said something about maximized windows mode. How do I activate that?

this is not possible. dashboard is a single application. when you activate it it will display all widgets in the current space.

Anyone know how to play a video game in a specific space on leopard? I want to be able to be online and toggle to a specific space and play my game.

Select the game in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu; under Ownership & Permissions, change the settings so that all accounts have Read & Write access to it. Support files and folders used by the game may need to have their permissions changed as well; if these exist, they will probably be located in the Applications or Library folders.

  • How do I play a cd-rom game in a specific Leopard space?

Hey all. I just got Leopard system for my mac. I also just purchased a cd-rom game for it and I am wondering how I can play the game in a specific space I set it to using the "spaces" feature so that I can browse the internet and toggle back to the desired space to play the game. I appreciate any help.

Look for an option in the game that runs it in 'windowed mode' Then you can use spaces. I don't think you can run a full-screen game on its own 'space'.

  • Screen artifacts while playing games with catalyst

Hello. I recently switched back to Arch Linux (64-bit) and I'm running with the catalyst-hook package from Vi0L0's inofficial repository. When I play games, or also when I'm using hardware acceleration in VLC, these artifacts appear on the screen. They disappear quickly if you update the screen, so they are not so prevalent on the actual gaming screen. They however flood my second screen. In case of VLC they are just constantly blinking all over the place. I've googled the issue, but couldn't find anything that helped. If I alt-tab out of the game all artifacts disappear, but then reapper later after I've continued playing for a few minutes. This is very annoying.
Is there anything that can fix this? Please help!
This is the Xorg0.log right after I played a game where the issues occured:

  • Was playing game for months. Tonite, I went to play and it started me back as a new user. How do I find my player info and continue playing my origional game??

Was playing game for months, when I turned ipad on tonite and went to continue playing, it started me as a new user. My old achievements are still in game, but can only view them as the game recognizes me as a new user. How can I retrieve my player info to continue where I left off in game?

If I bought a new iPad and wanted to continue as on the old iPad, I would setup the new iPad from a backup of the old iPad, thereby transferring everything from old to new.
Exactly, a full backup of the previous device would contain all the app workfiles that stored the current state of the game.
I'm thinking if your kids got ahold of the iPad and decided to start with a new/fresh character, it may not be possible to go back. Given that the device is not altogether geared for multiuser usage (Apple would rather everyone got their own), many games don't support multiple users, besides those on other devices when in networked multiplayer mode.
But hopefully they will answer and set the record straight. While you wait may want to interrogate the infractors on what they specifically did so you can provide details to the maker if they need them.

I'm not sure iCloud stores everything. Even iTunes states that iCloud "Backs up the most important data..." whereas locally there will be "A full backup..."

  • I get no sound when I play games on my iPhone 5s with just the speaker but headphone it works. Music works both ways. What do I need to do so I can hear my game without headphones like I can my music

When playing games on my iphone 5s I can't hear any sound but if I play music from where ever it works. If  I put on headphones I can hear the game would like it to work with sound with out them too what did I do to mess up my phone help please

    Hello tiffay8,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand you're not getting any audio output from your speakers when you're playing games.  Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.

  • Can I boot to an external hard drive with Windows OS installed on it to play games?

    Hello,
I am getting a Mac in the near future for work, and was wondering if it was possible to take my current PC's hard drive and connect it to the Mac with the high speed thunderbolt cable, then book to the external hard drive to play games in windows. In my research I have not seen much about this. I understand that BootCamp works, and am willing to do this, but with the new Macbook Pros that were released, there is very little storage space for two partitions.
    Any help would be great,
Also, I know that the performance would not be stunning, but my performance is already lacking because I only have AMD integrated graphics on my machine.
    Thanks

A virtual machine is a software system such as VMware Fusion or Parallels which provides a software environment within which a different operating system, such as Windows can run. The files which make up the virtual machine itself (e.g., where Windows and any Windows based software, such as Microsoft Office, reside) can be located on an internal or an external drive. Only the virtualizing program itself needs to be on the boot drive. The connection between an external drive on which the virtual machine files reside will be faster than the external drive itself if the connection is USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt because the speed of an external HD will be the limiting factor. If the external is an SSD, the connection used might make a difference. But a virtual machine will still be slower than a physical machine (i.e., computer) because  hardware is faster than the software emulation of it whether the hardware is Windows in BootCamp or a real PC, as BobTheFisherman says.
If you mean the new Retina MacBook Pro (Late 2013), the internal storage isn't a hard drive, it's an SSD on a PCIe bus. OWC, among other vendors, may one day develop an upgrade method as they have for the SSD's in earlier rMBP's but for now, what you order is what you get.

  • I have had my Ipod touch 4th gen for 2+ years and was working fine until I upgraded to ios 6.1.3. Now I cannot play games and most of my apps keep crashing.

My ipod was working just fine for the past 2 years and ever since upgrading to ios 6.1.3, i simply cannot play games or anymore such as Subway surfers, carrot fantasy, 4 pics 1 word, etc. I also noticed that i had 1.2 GB of free space on ios 5.1.1 but then decreased to 900+ MB after "upgrading" to ios 6.1.3. I then deleted one of my space-hungry apps (the sims freeplay) to clear up some space and now have 1.6 GB of free memory. Just a thought, could apple have purposely done this with their software update to actually make an older, phased-out product such as my ipod touch 4th gen work worse than it has in its  previous versions of softwares to force you to scrap it for a newer product?

    - Double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Can't watch video and play games that require flash player

I'm using windows7 family premium version
internet explorer 10 last version 10.0.5
    exploitation system 64 bytes
flash player verson 11..700.202 the latest one
So as i say can't watch video and play games that require flash player, they keep asking me to install flashplayer... i did everything i read in the forums, unistall it, clean the memory, reinstall it, disabe active x etc... but still have the problem.
More specific about my problem is that: let's say that i'm trying to look at you tutorial video under thi forum  Re: How do I fix Windows permission problems with Flash Player? i'm just seeing a black screen.  So I'm able to guess where is the play button so when i push on that place, i can hear the sound of that video.  Second step guessing where is the  enlarge  button, and when the screen is enlarged, magic i can see and hear the video.... So you figure that it's impossible to use my computer like that and guess right all the time, so....
Second fact, it seems that bug happened after an update (windows or explorer) and i even talk with a microsott tech who was not able to resolve it... But if i'm  undoning  the update and go back to a prior image, i have no problems with flash player anymore... it' been moths that i'm delaying my updates cause i cannot find any solutions.... So Please please please, help me .... don't know what's the problem is and i'm not a pro, don't know what to do.  (Excuse my english it's my second language)
    Thank you

The first thing I'd try is updating your video driver.
Windows: how do I update the device driver for my video/display adapter?
If you still have problems and since you're using Windows 7 x64, please check to see if you have the following Windows update installed:
    KB2670838 – Platform Update for Windows 7 x64
If so, please uninstall it and try Flash Player out again.

  • MacBook Pro heats up crazy while playing games

    Hello all;
I know the heating up issue has been raised several times all over the internet. But none of the discussions  has satisfied my the concerns I have with my system. So I am going to put my case a new, although I believe the answers are going to be the same as on other similar discussions.
I recently bought MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2.2 GHz, late 2011, OS X Lion) and also I am new to Mac. The system usually runs perfectly. I just have two issues:
    i. Occassionally it freezes up when more then one apps are running. I have noticed this is usually when Firefox is running in the background. Also happened with Safari a couple of times.
But my main concern and query is the point no. ii (below)
ii. During the normal usuage the fans don't make a noise (even with multiple apps that are not burden on the RAM). The systems heat up is as normal as that of a PC while running on its normal situation. However, when I play games (like BioShock, Sims etc) Mac just heats up immensly and fans kick in. I have never seen/felt a computer get this hot before.
    How do I fix this?

I know Firefox has a slight issue with the way it handles RAM, so does Chrome, it has to do with the add-ons and how the unused RAM gets returned for using for another program.
Safari might have a memory leak, it also could be now with 64 bit everyone is rushing out to grab as much RAM as they can, trying to turn their browsers into platforms.
After all, if you think about it, browsers are becoming so powerful that they can actually run software within them, so perhaps Apple is messing with Chrome and Firefox's memory so they can't grow too large and takeover?  Just my thoughts.

3D games (or anything 3D) works the graphics and if you have a dedicated video card (the 15" does, the 13" does not) then that heats up too, thus the fans go up.
CPU intensive programs will heat up the processors and the fans go up.
Mac's come with Intel processors and they come with integrated graphics which performs some graphics capability, but can't handle 3D very well at all.
So the way the Mac works with a dedicated video card is it uses the integrated graphics on the CPU for as much as it can then hands off to the dedicated video card.
What you can do is open your System Preferences > Energy Saver and turn off graphics switching, that will use your dedicated video card only, located separately from the CPU and thus concentrate less heat on one spot on the logicboard, you should have a cooler machine.
However 3D gaming will of course always heat the machine up, perhaps a lot less as your not using the  integrated graphics which is lousy anyway.
Another issue is 3D games are usually produced for a specific OS version and they milk it, perhaps don't see the value of making a update that works with a new OS X version, rather concentrating efforts on the next version of the game.
So it's ideal to only run games that are designed for the OS X version your using. Which Apple changes the OS version often, now once a year with 10.8 coming out this summer, why there isn't a whole lot of 3D games for the Mac, not to mention you can't find or upgrade video card like on a Windows tower.
So with 3D games, OS stability (Windows remains the same for 10 years) AND the option to replace the video card is paramount.

  • Is it safe to download/play games on macbook pro?

My son wants to download and play games like the ones he plays on XBOX on the Macbook pro. Is it safe to do so? I am concerned about viruses mostly.
    Thanks!

Nope, you should be good to go. However, if you do need anything extra the game will inform you of what you specifically need - maybe an updated version of Flash or Microsoft Silverlight.
If it requests something be installed that sounds strange to you, you may want to google it just to double check. Don't hesitate to post on here if you run into any issues.

  • Somebody help me out here!!!!!!! I cant figure out how to play games on mac

evertime i put a pc game in it asks me to look for a file to open it and its onlys the system profiler and it dont work how the **** do you play games on the mac book pRO!!somebody help me out it!!!!

The issue is that you are attempting to run software written for one operating system (Microsoft Windows) on another (Mac OS X). That doesn't work... However, that doesn't mean you're out of luck:
    1. Many popular PC games also happen to be available native for the Mac. Check if the particular games you want to play have a native Mac version. If they do, using that is best since it's easier to install and use and will perform best.
    2. Failing that, you can actually run Windows on the Mac in order to run the game. There are two supported methods to do this: dual-booting (selecting which environment to use when you start the computer), or virtualization (running Windows as an OS X application).
For games, particularly ones heavily reliant on 3D graphics, dual-boot is currently the best option. This is accomplished using an application called "Boot Camp" (search the Apple site) to setup disk space for the two operating systems and installing a menu that appears when you boot where you can select which operating system to run. Any Windows game will run in this way (assuming you otherwise meet the hardware requirements of the game).
The alternative is virtualization, and there are two packages for that: Parallels and VMWare Fusion (in beta testing). Both will eventually support hardware accelerated 3D, but its not really functional in either yet. However, these applications run Windows as an application under Mac OS X, meaning that you can be running the Windows and Mac OS X applications at the same time (as opposed to Boot Camp, where you have to select at boot time which to run).
Note that all of the approaches require you to have a copy of Windows to install (preferably a legally licensed one). Most people don't have a copy to use since they receive a hardware-locked OEM version with their computer that isn't transferable.
The advice above is applicable to Linux as well.

  • My imac g5 goes to sleep while in use. typically when im playing games

For the last several months, my mac has been going to sleep during use. Typically when im playing games, like second life, or in any type of programs, but it has also been going to sleep while im watching videos on youtube or hulu. It's getting worse and worse, and once it goes to sleep the first time, it doesnt stay on long afterwards. When browsing the internet, its fine. I've recently backed up 40,000 images that I had on my computer, and deleted for more memory space. but it didnt stop it from going into sleep mode, it just doesnt go as quickly as it was before. I was told that it was a memory problem, but since i deleted all of the images off of my computer, the problem still persists. I even turned sleep mode to "never". Here are some of my computer stats:
    Memory: 512 MB
    Processor: 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5
    Space Free: 104.18 GB
    Space utilized: 128.58 GB
My monitor stays warm, never gets hot, but sometimes i can hear the fan blowing loudly when it goes into sleep mode
If anyone could help, i would greatly appreciate it =)

The temps are a bit higher than I'd expect under normal circumstances, and too high while playing games, but what is the room temp where it is?
I def. think its a temp thing now. but why does it only raise when im playing games or watching videos online?
Games tipically press the CPU, Video Card, RAM, and everything else much harder than most apps.
It may be a Fan not working properly, or just dust buildup.
Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
    Report any errors it finds.
