Playing HBO GO from iPad 2 on TV

I had hoped to be able to tether my iPad 2 to a TV via the Digital AV Adapter that has the HDMI adapter and watch HBO GO. But it appears that the app blocks my ability to do this (other apps like You Tube and Crackle work). Is there any other way to tether the iPad2 to my TV so that I can play HBO GO on my TV?

I too am baffeled by the lack of support for this app. When I heard about the app I immediately picked it up for my iPad 2 and instantly fell in love with all that it offered. Initially it had not occured to me that I could use airplay to stream the content to my apple tv. I recently discovered this viewing possibility through the frustration of not being able to play Apple.com/Trailers on my 27" iMac. I found that I could pull them up on my iPad and a few taps later have it streaming to my 42" plasma instead. Granted it doesn't solve the original problem but it is a great work around. However when I look at the missed functionality advantage with the HBO Go app and airplay I really think HBO or Apple need to address this as I'm not sure if this is problem with Airplay or with the app itself.
As of today I'm running iOS 4.3.2 on my iPad2 and attempting to stream it to my AppleTV running the latest update of 4.2.2 which cited some video playing fixes (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/11/apple-issues-new-4-2-2-ios-4-3-update-for-ap ple-tv/) When I start video content as long as my AppleTV isn't 'in use' by another app on my network it shows up as an option from the video player. However after selecting it ONLY the audio is available through the apple tv. When I read the fix notes for the AppleTV 4.2.2 release it cited some fixes that sound like they would fix this. However I've updated my device and still no joy.
I think this in general that the HBO GO app is really going to define the future of the industry in media/content enjoyment. I think consumers (like myself) whom are already subscribing to the content via their cable provider should be able to stream it to their computers, tablets, and mobile devices. The added function of being able to stream it to an AppleTV or output it from an HDMI cable from an iPad2 is a VERY logical function. ROCKDQG 's comments above really give multiple examples of just how flexible of a solution this provides a paid subscriber.
So if its HBO thats blocking the output I think they really have to look long and hard at their decision and reconsider it. If this issue is the result of a bug still within the OS of the AppleTV or iPad or possibly even Airplay then I'm confident Apple will work that out in short order. I only ask that no matter where the 'disconnect' lies HBO or Apple that someone posts something to the public about it and set our expectations.

Like you I am having the same problem. I am at a loss, seems despite the fact I have purchased the content and am only using the TV as a display I don't understand the authorization question. I hope someone has an answer.

Is there an app for video playback on external screen from ipad mini which avoids mirroring?

I want to play fullscreen video from ipad mini to external screens with a clean look and without without showing playback controls etc. I need to be able to play, pause, change the order of video tracks without affecting the external display as it's for playback of video backing tracks for a music show.
Does anybody know of any apps which do this? I'm looking at Portfolio for iPad at the moment which looks promising.

I bought the right cable to connect to iPad to TV but the tv keeps saying to turn airplay on. Make sure you uncheck [√] Mirrored displays, so that you can set the resolution for your external and built-in displays separately.
Use system preferences to choose resolutions (not the menubar item) to get access to all resolutions supported by your projector.

I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

I was not complete clear.
Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section. If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there

Playing slideshow on tv from ipad cutting off picture

I am connecting my ipad 2 to my TV with a RocketFish Composite adapter and trying to play a video slideshow on my TV. I am able to play the video/slideshow just fine, however both the top and bottom of the videos (and pictures) are being cut off by several inches. When played directly on my iPad the size is fine ( no cut offs). The videos were converted to Ipad compatable (.m4v) using Aimersoft Video Converter and the iPad presets. The resolutions of the videos are 720 x 480. The TV I am connecting to is 1080P LED TV. I have tried different aspect ratios in the TV's settings but there are not much to choose from and each setting changes the size of the video a little, but the amount being cut off from the top and bottom is consistent. What can i do to correct this problem. Also, I need this slideshow for a trade show I am in tomorrow afternoon, so a quick response would help a lot.
Another thing... In my research so far, I found that iPad 2 can mirror its display (meaning what you see on the iPad you see on the TV) onto the TV. But I cannot seem to get that to work either. I can only play videos and slideshows from the apps that allow you to. How do I go about mirroring my display to my TV? Does it only work with a HDMI connection?

What adapter are you using? I have the Digital AV Adapter that connects to the HDMI input of a small Vizio HDTV. It seems to work OK, and has stereo sound. My only problem has been the weight of the HDMI cable pulling the adapter out of the iPad.
Apple also sells VGA, Component and Composite adapters. I also have the VGA adapter which works on the HDTV and one LCD monitor. However it doesn't work on a couple of older monitors I tried. Also VGA is video only. You would need to run a separate cable for sound on the TV.

MOV files from Ipad not playing correctly in 2010 Windows PPT presentation

I inserted .mov files taken from Ipad 2 into a.ppt on my work PC. I saved these files to the folder containing all of the videos I am showing in the ppt-- the same folder where the .ppt is located as well. Then I inserted them as I do all videos (I create ppts often for work) -- and the clips that are horizontal play fine but the vertical ones do not play correctly- audio and video not in sync. any remedies? (using ppt 2010, converted files to wmv, didn't work either). I should add that when I viewed these files on my PC (by just clicking the file) they play fine, but they are not rotated correctly. This must have been my fault when I took the videos. However, when I insert them they are rotated correctly but just don't play right - looks like a Japanese movie. please help!

What hardware do I need to play music from iPad?

Hi all!
I've seen this done, but never asked how it's done! This may be a simple question for almost all of you, but I don't even know how to phrase it to look up via a web search!
I just ordered an iPad (4th generation) and one of the things I would like to do is play the music from it remotely. I work at a retreat center and during sessions/prayers we play music. I would like to do this at the podium rather than running back and forth to a dock (for an iPad, if there's such a thing) at the back of the room to push those buttons; we do this currently with our cd player.
So, what kind of hardware would I need to do so? Also, would it be possible to tie in this hardware to our overhead speaker system? What apps on the iPad would control this? Please keep in mind while I am a huge Apple fan and have an iMac & iPod, I am limited in my knowledge (so far) with a iPad. And my boss, who leads these services, is not the most tech savvy person, so it would need to be simple to operate too!

Okayyyy... the AirPort Express router sound like a more practical idea. I'll go with that; but I still have the same issue with connection to the amp. And I am not at all well versed in electronics to understand "Hi-Z" matching thingie . In your best guess, can connection be made with AirPort to our amp system via a bare wire connection??

Again, a more pratical idea, mark! I will look for such a cable; we have a Radio Shack down the road. To ask a dumb question with the "x-to-x or x-to-y" you mention above. I know one value is for the connector (x or y: type of jack, as like a headphone one or speaker). The other value has no change and would that possibly be the red and white lines commonly found on standard jacked connectors?
Third question: those red and white lines - are they different in the type of wire that is used in it's construction and that's why they are so marked? If I strip for bare wire connection, do I have to keep them marked for what will go where to the amp?
I just want to make the right decisions before any purchasing, mainly to see if it can be done!!!

Your iPad has built-in WiFi. You cannot and don't need to use the USB dongle.
Look in Settings > WiFi. Find the SSID of your wireless router, tap it's name and enter the WiFi password.
