Playing HDV in quicktime

I have a macbook pro 2.16. I can play and edit video in FCP but when I open a file in quicktime it will not show the video.

Your machine is missing the codec used by Final Cut. The Pro upgrade to QuickTime Player doesn't add any components.
The Movie Inspector window will tell you the codec.

  • Can't Play HDV 1080p24 Quicktime Movie - PLEASE HELP!

I have a self-contained Quicktime file that plays fine using the Quicktime application on my computer that has Final Cut Pro installed on it. However, when I move that Quicktime to my computer that does not have Final Cut Pro, it says I don't have the proper codec. (It plays the audio fine, but the video is just a black screen.)
Can I download this specific codec on my non-FCP computer so that I can play this file?
Here are the specifics on the Quicktime in question:
    Format:
    HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
And, if it helps at all, we footage was created with a Canon XL-H1 camera, imported into FCP, edited, and exported as a Quicktime file using current settings. And, the non-FCP computer does have Quicktime Pro installed.
    Thanks!

Gonna have to look at a third party solution...
#51 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD or HDV or ProRes on my computer.
Shane's Stock Answer #51 - Cannot view DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes QT files on your computer.
The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forWindows.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac
If your footage was captured as DVCRO HD you can buy the Calibrated DVCPRO HD decoder:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QDVCProHD.asp
HDV, XDCAM? Calibrated has you covered too:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:
    http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/p2-hd/downloads-and-updates.asp
Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

  • Trouble playing HDV on Quicktime

    Can anyone help?
I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.2. I'm trying to play media files from a DVD that's part of an Apple Certified course (FCE HD). The standard NTSC footage plays fine, but the HDV footage sticks for both audio and video.
    Movie Info...
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo 48k
    H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1080, Millions
    29.97fps
    89.48 mbits/sec
    many advance thanks
    Aldo

Thank you for the quick and informative reply. That would make sense.
Strangely though, the Apple Certified book system requirements page would suggest my G4 iBook is well above spec. The accompanying DVD comes with Quicktime 6.4. Do you think the HDV footage would play on my G4 if I was using this older version of Quicktime?
    best

  • Is it possible to play HDV in quicktime pro or iMovie

I'm trying to import HDV video footage from my Hard drive into Imovie. However It will not import, so I have converted the files to AVi, Mpeg-4 and DV but I only get sound with a blank white thumbnail. Can anyone suggest how to do this?

'HDV' is a codec for HD on miniDV, not harddrives..
so, you want to import HD from a harddrive-camcorder into iMovie?
this is supported only by iM08/09.. connect device via usb, goto 'Import from camera'.
if you like to handle HD from a HDDcorder in iM vers5/6, you have to:
    • manually copy files via Finder from cam to Mac
    • convert files to AppleIntermediateCodec, iMHD5/6 internal codec for HD-video
most recommended: Mpeg Streamclip + 20$-mp2-playback-component from apple.com/quicktime..

  • Any new solutions to playing HDV files on the PC Quicktime?

Any new solutions to playing HDV files on the PC version of Quicktime Pro?
      Windows XP Pro

It all depends a bit on how & what you backed up, and how you restored it. Select an affected track. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Click Cancel when asked to locate the file. Look at the location given on the summary tab. Now look through your computer for file in question. What are the two paths? iTunes could be using the wrong layout (pre or post iTunes 9) in error. Or your library could have been split on the previous system, and not restored to preciesly the same path. Posting back the two paths should make things clearer.

  • What is a .vob file and how can I play it in Quicktime Player?

I have a video file .vob.  I can play it in VLC, but I would like to be able to play it in Quicktime.  Do I need to change its file type?  And to what? And how?

    VLC Player...

VOB stands for DVD Video Object and is the core file of a DVD containing the actual movie data, an MPEG movie stream and the supported audio...

  • Audio recording on a flash. recommended to download vlc media player did this. tried to play messages says quicktime does not recognise this format. what to do pleaser

RECIEVED AN AUDIO RECORDING ON A FLASH. PLUGGED IT IN. DOWNLOADED VLC MEDIA PLAYER AS RECOMMEMDED. TRIED TO PLAY.
MESSAGE RECEIVED SAYING QUICKTIME DOES NOT RECOGNISE THIS FORMAT. WHAT TO DO PLEASE.

You could add Perian.  It may help (...or not).
Wait, you received and audio recording and you are trying to use a video player (vlc) to play it?  What kind of file is it?  Does it have a filename extension?  If it is .wmv then you might want to install Flip4Mac.  Then you could play it with QuickTime.

  • Large .dv file plays fine in Quicktime, but audio out of sync in iMovie??

    hi,
i'm trying to convert some old analog 8mm tapes to digital. to do this, i'm using a sony trv320 camcorder with firewire feeding iMovie '08. i've imported an entire 2 hour tape into iMovie, and everything is fine except that at some point, the audio gets out of sync from the picture. i've opened the huge 24 GB .dv file in Quicktime, and everything is in sync, so I assume this is some kind of problem related to iMovie. i've done lots of searching on this and have made sure that the camcorder is sending 16 bit audio out. i also tried using mpeg streamclip to split the huge .dv file into smaller parts, but this resulted in the same audio sync problem (which is weird).
is my only option to manually import my tapes 10 minutes at a time? please say no
the most puzzling thing about this is that the huge .dv file is perfectly in sync all the way through when playing back in Quicktime.
i'm at a loss!! hope someone can help.

I've edited in FCP and exported with compressor with all the appropriate settings, to mpeg 2.
Double check to make sure that you edited in Anamorphic and also encoded as 16:9 video not 4:3 - also make sure you set the Track to 16:9 Letterbox in DVD SP.
What encoding rates did you use for the video and audio? Sometimes if the rates are too high it can cause drifts.
On the audio side, did you export the FCP as self contained and make the audio AC3? Also you can try just exporting the audio as an AIF and encode that as an AC3.
How did you burn the DVD (Speed and Media used?) Sometimes bad burns/media can cause issues.

  • Video portion of Nightwish DVD not playing correctly on Quicktime. It is not a smooth playback. Can I correct this?

Video portion of Nightwish DVD not playing correctly on Quicktime.  It is not a smooth playback. A little jerky. Is there an easy slution to the problem?

I worded my question incorrectly. It isn't a DVD I'm having the problem with, it' s a Nightwish concert download form iTunes I am having the video portion of the video that plays not smoothy. Like it is moothing it short little segments, not a steady flow!

  • My older M-JPEG quicktime movies play black in Quicktime and Keynote

I was just recently asked to give a presentation that I had put together 3 years ago in Keynote.  All of my quicktime movies that Keynote were using were M-JPEG and used to all play great the last time I opened my file.  Since Then I've updated my OS to 10.7.1, I have a Macbook Pro, Quicktime 10.1, Keynote 09,  but also have Quicktime Pro.
When I play my keynote, all of my movies come up black when they play.  If I try and open my quicktime movies directly and play them in Quicktime or Quicktime pro, they also come up black.  But I can open it in VLC and it plays fine.
I tried to start converting the quicktime movies using SmartConverter, but it's time consuming since I have over 50 quicktime movies that this keynote is referencing.  Some of the quicktime movies are also erroring out too when trying to convert them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with M-JPEG quicktime movies that used to work just fine?  Anything I could do across the board to be able to use these rather than converting them all?
    Thanks,
    Dale

QuickTime in Lion is not reliable as of 10.7.1. The next OS update will fix this. Should be out tomorrow when Apple updates all of its software for iCloud.
See if your problems are gone then.

  • Quicktime movie HD file I received won't play when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3, it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type?

Large, 5min long Quicktime .mov HD file I received says it's converting when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3 but then stops and tells me it's not a supported file type, a program I downloaded to try and convert the file type also told me the same thing.
Doesn't let me see a preview so I think the file is to blame.
I believe it's a faulty file as it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type but is there any way to be sure?
    (Doesn't open in iTunes.)

After installing Adobe Flash Player 10.1.102.64 (http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_10.1.102. 64_and_9.0.289.0_archive.zip), download and install the hack so you can also view Flash 11 content.

However, TexasMacMan discovered a hack (http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip) that allows PowerPC to use a Flash Player "masquerading" as Flash Player 11. Facebook videos require Flash 11 and will not play at all with Flash 10. If you want to view Facebook videos you MUST use the hacked version!

  • Playing subtitles on Quicktime

Hi I am trying to play a foreign film which has a subtitle file in a separate folder. How can I add this to the film using Quicktime?
The file is an .avi, I am using the Perian plugin to play it on Quicktime. When I try and open the subtitle file on its own, MPlayer OS X 2 launches and that is useless.
Please help, I am trying to watch this good Korean movie....Thank you!

You only need the "codec" used to create the file to play it back using QuickTime Player.
Open the "Movie Info" window (open the file with QT Player) Control-i
Do a Google search for a Windows compatible codec, download and install it.
Restart the QuickTime Player for these newly installed codecs to be found.

  • Playing dvds with quicktime

I selected the Include Audio button but when I played back the file the music did not play. I noticed the export made two files - The video files and a seperate audio file. How do I combine the two files to burn a DVD to play on an HDTV screen?

How do you rehearse timings o produce a self-playing movie?? I am struggling to have a self playing movie that has all different timings within it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much. Antony
