Playing IDVD project from computer thru projector

How do I play my IDVD project from my computer thru a projector and get it to play full screen without all the drop zone etc and media window showing?

There's at least a few ways to do this:
Do you currently have a DVI to VGA adapter with your macbook? Looks like this:
http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9320G/A?mco=6C04E099
OR ....
if you're working with Composite or S-Video connectors then you need this:
http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9319G/A?mco=6C04E0B8
However, the cleanest way IMO is to get a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, if the projector has a DVI connection. You'll get a cleaner, trouble-free picture with DVI rather than VGA.
http://store.apple.com/ca/product/M9321G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4NjQ0NDE
Once you have any of the above connector properly connected to the LCD Projector (and the laptop) all you need do is restart your mac while connected (assuming the projector is fully powered up beforehand) and your mac will default to the correct settings (or at least should in most cases).
If I'm not mistaken, you'll use apple's dvd player app in full screen mode to play the dvd like this:
As for not showing the desktop, you want to play the dvd rather than to mirror the desktop. Just move the mouse to the top of the screen > view > full screen.

  • How would I replace just the (imported) movie portion without having to start over the entire iDVD project from scratch?

I've just added a new ending and want to burn the new version of my iDVD project.  How would I replace just the (imported FCE) movie portion without having to start over the entire iDVD project from scratch?

In an attempt to help clarify:
The FCE 3.5 project I first wrote about had 10 chapters and was a mix of stills and transcoded DSLR video clips that measured 58 min in length. After FCE converted it to a Quicktime movie, it exported from FCE to iDVD 7 flawlessly until I was asked to make a last minute change.
My older software wasn't endowed with the ability to "detect modifications".  However, Deleting Assets was successful and a revised version of the original video could substituted saving me from starting iDVD over from scratch (thanks to Old Toad).  Luckily, the ugly iDVD BUG did not awaken during these procedures.  Thanks Bengt W.
I hope this helps the discussion.

  • Transferring iDVD project from one computer to another?

I have a MacBook that has a combo drive (it can burn CDs but not DVDs). I have Quicktime Pro and I used it to download a video from the internet. I edited it using Quicktime Pro and I was going to burn it on a DVD but I just realized that my MacBook doesn't burn DVDs. I have a friend who has an iMac that has a super drive (it can burn CDs and DVDs). Instead of spending money to buy an external DVD burner, can I email my project to him and then burn it on his computer? If not, can I store my project on a flash drive, then put it on his computer, and then burn it? If I could do one of these options that would be great because I don't want to buy an external DVD burner if I don't have to. Thanks.

Just to add to the excellent advice already posted. If you are done with your iDvd project and no additional changes are to take place then use the first link provided above. However, if you plan on making even the slightest change/s then follow directions for the second link which was kindly provided for you above.

  • How do I delete old iDVD projects from my hard drive?

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this but as I have messed up things in iPhoto before by deleting the wrong files which caused lots of problems when trying to open the application, so I just want to be sure before doing anything bad . I am still trying to get my head round where iDVD and iMovie keep all the files.
I want to reclaim some space on my external hard drive. I have 3 iDVD projects and their related iMovie movies that I no longer need to do any more to. I have made disc images of each and burnt some DVD's of these projects therefore I don't think they need to remain on the computer. Can I delete the projects by dragging them to the trash from the folder I created to store them and then do the same with the associated iMovie projects? Will this leave the disc images intact in case I needed to burn further discs from them? Will this leave any confused links in iDVD that will affect the application. I also have the burnt dvds as a further back up so these projects are now just taking up space.

Yes, you are on the right track here. Disk Images are entirely independent of any other files. You can trash any of your iDVD/iMovie project files and it will not affect your disk images.
When I create disk images I give them very distinct names ... like Bob's Video Disk Image ... so it is easy to distinguish them and I always store them in a Disk Image folder ... just to cover my youknowwhat

  • Playing iDVD on another computer

Hi! I burned a DVD from iDVD of a movie I created on iMovie. My mother-in-law tried to play it on her computer and she told me she could not get it to play (she does not have a Mac). Did I need to do something different when burning the disc? I chose the computer/TV setting when burning the DVD. Thanks!

    Hi
    As J Keller writes
*Type of DVD* - +R, -R or +/-RW - Single Layer SL or Double Layer DL
I use DVD-R SL - Worst choise DVD+RW DL - only Wizards make them play
    *Brand of DVD*
I use Verbatim only (Can't get Taiyo Yuden - but would like to)
    *Burn speed* - IMPORTANT
I set this down to x4 or x1 - gives less write errors = more compatible to players
*Free Space* on start up Mac OS hard disk
When getting very low - it even affects the result of iDVD labour
I never go for less than 25GB free space after material in iDVD are structured and ready to burn
    *Making a DiskImage*
Is a very good way to be able to evalute - before burning - I do !

  • How do I delete an idvd project from my hard drive?  If I do so, will it delete the raw videos/images from iphoto or imovie?  Thank you

I understand that an imovie or idvd project will take up quite a bit of space on my hard drive, so after I create the movies on either program I want to delete them.  I can't figure out how to delete them on idvd.  Should I go to finder?  I'm so confused!

iDVD only uses pointers to the media, photos and QT files, that it uses in its projects.  So if you delete a movie that you used in it that movie will be lost to iDVD.
However you can use the File ➙ Archive Project... menu option and that will copy the media into the iDVD project package. Then if you delete the movie file the archived project will still have its copy of the movie to use.
You won't be able to go back and make any changes to the movie if you do this.  So wait until the project is complete and burned to disk before archiving and deleting the movie files.
Personally I would get an external HD and save those movies and other files that you might want to delete from your boot drive because you never know when you might want to go back and make changes.  Once they are deleted you can't go back.
    Happy Holidays

  • How can I get my iDVD project from my iMac to my MBPro?

I created a slideshow on my iMac in iPhoto, sent it to iDVD, and then burned the slideshow to a disc from iDVD. I'd like to have the iDVD project on my MBPro, too, but everything I've tried doesn't work!
I've read the posts saying that archiving the iDVD project would work...I did that on my iMac and burned it to a disc to transfer it. Well, the archiving made an "Alias" of the iDVD file, and when I tried to open it on my MBPro I got an error message that it "couldn't be opened because the original file can not be found". Of course not! The "original" file is on my iMac!)
Any help would really be appreciated...I'm not real familiar with the whole iDisk thing, but I was wondering if that might work??

I actually did do File/Archive when I archived it; still not sure why it created an alias that I can't work with...I'm pretty sure though that the project is an ok size for a DVD; it's about 25 minutes total, WAY less than 4.7GB that the disk holds. And, I had burned a copy of the final iDvd file to a DVD-R before I decided I wanted to have the file on my MBPro.
Still hoping to find out how I can transfer this file from Mac to Mac...but, thanks for your input!

  • Saving and reopening an iDVD project from a hard drive - HELP!

Hello! I am a moderately experienced user of iLife and am starting to use it for a business(memorial videos, sports highlight videos, etc) My problem is this: After I finish a project and export it to iDVD I want to save it to my external hard drive and store it there(like a file cabinet for all my finished projects, so that I can come back to them later, if needed) and I am having difficulty when I do this and then go back to open it - iDVD can't find my files for the pictures and sometimes the audio and video. This said, this is my process: Create project in iMovie, export to Garage Band to create chapters, export to iDVD.(this is 08 BTW) At every step I save to the desktop. Then when I am finished burning my DVD, I create a folder(eg., Bob and Kate's Wedding) on my hard drive and put all the media from the desktop in that folder(eg, the iMovie file, the Garage Band file, the iDVD file and a folder of the pictures I used also.
If anyone can shed some light on a better process, or maybe a reason why I cannot just go into my hard drive and double click the iDVD project and burn extra copies, that would be fantastic!
I appreciate any insight. I love doing this work, but with 3 kids, I rarely get time to research the answers to my questions outside of this board!!!
    TIA - Lis

    Hi Mamalisa
iDVD can't find my files for the pictures and sometimes the audio and video.
And welcome to apple discussions. If you plan to do further modifications to your iDvd project then follow these steps. (btw, iDvd doesn't like it when you change the actual location of video / audio assets once encoded / burned to DVD-R unless it's saved or rather archived beforehand).
On the other hand if you plan no further changes then you may wish to follow this instead of the above.

  • Remove project from computer

Now that my Premier Elements 10  video project is completed and burned to a DVD, how do I remove all elements of the project from my computer?

    Welcome to the forum.
The answer depends on how you set up the Project initially. I place everything into one root folder, which contains the PREL file, then sub-folders with Copies of my Source Footage, and my PrE Scratch Disks, including Render files, Media Cache, etc.. All that I have to do is Delete that Project's root folder, and everything goes away with it. If one has not used such a scheme, then they will need to navigate around the system, locating the various folders, with files inside, and Deleting them, one at a time. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on how I set up my PrE Projects.
Now, before you start Deleting files and folders, you need to ask yourself a few questions:
Will I ever need to re-edit this Project again?
Are the Assets used in this Project worth saving for later use?
If the answer is yes to # 1, then look into the Project Archiver, and when done, test that Project, to make sure that everything is needed to Open it later. I place my Archived Projects onto external HDD's, just in case.
If the answer is yes to # 2, then make sure to Copy any Assets to a safe place. I use a NAS for my Assets.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What DVD player to buy to play DVDs recorded from computer (AVI files)?

Only DVD player I have that will play AVI files from DVDs recorded off the computer is my portable/car DVD player.  Is there a DVD player I can purchase to play these DVDs without using the portable DVD player?

    Look for something DivX certified.

  • Updating iDVD project from iMovie - how?

I spent a lot of time on an iDVD project and burned the movie. Except, I forgot a couple of chapter markers that need to in there. I subsequently put them in iMovie - is there a way to update the iDVD project without having to re-do everything from scratch? Thanks. . .Jim

    Hello Jim
I had the same problem (and I missed out a vital bit of video too). In iMovie I went back to the iDVD button on the right (next to effects) and clicked it.
Then, in the timeline I inserted the new (chapter) marker where I needed it, (write the text you want for it in the pane of chapters on the right) . The existing chapters you had originally then get shuffled automaticallly to get the new one in and place the chapters in the right order for you too - clever stuff . I then went to `create iDVD project` and progressed through again and finally to `burn`.........
    Hope this helps

  • Play iDVD project on Windows computer

I've made a video presentation using iMovie then exported it into iDVD. I've burned it to a disc, which works fine on my Macbook, but won't work on a PC.
How can I make this work?
    Thanks!

How long is your movie? YOu could simply export is as a QuickTime file, burn a data disc and then the PC only needs to have QT in order to play it (free download from Apple).
Unlike your Mac, PC's have tons of different software DVD players. A lot of the software is "free" crippled versions of one's where the vendor wants you to buy the "complete" version. If a DVD isn't playing in a PC, it is USUALLY (not always) one of two issues:
    1) The PC doesn't have a DVD player. Don't laugh. It happens. Often.
    2) The DVD software isn't there, or isn't up to date.

  • Can you use apple tv to project from a regular projector and mac/ipad?

I am trying to project things from an ipad to a projector - wireless, without a HD but a regular projector and a Mac. Can Apple TV help me do that or do I need an actual HD TV to use the Apple TV to project.

You can connect via a cable or wireless using an Apple TV.

  • Playing itunes movies from macbook to Projector over HDMI

    Hi,
I'd like to play moves that are in my itunes library over an HDMI connection to a projector. I think that I will need to buy a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.
Is there anything else that I need to know about settings for this?.. do I have to allocated my thunderbolt port as HDMI or anything?
Any display setting that I should know about such as resolution etc?
I was thinking about getting this projector: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A9S3OOC/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=& seller=
    Thanks

it's dvd's DRM encryption kicking in
it's by design if you use remote desktop from another computer to the computer
    the same thing would happen
people say that the free player vlc don't have the issue
if that is the case then vlc are breaking the law as stripping a dvd's movie stream of encryption is not really legal

  • How do I play HD movie from IMAC to projector

I have connected my IMac 27" mid-2011 to my LG projector through my Sony STRD-H820 amp to play HD movies I have downloaded onto Itunes.  I get the message that the display does not comply with HDCP. If I had known I would not have bothered the expense of downloading as it is OK watching the movie on my Imac but much better on the big screen.  Is there a way around this?

If you only recently purchased the AV adapter for iPad, ring the store that you purchased it from and see whether they will allow you to return the adapter for a credit. Then ask if they will apply that credit towards the purchase of an Apple TV. In the US, the Apple TV retails for $99, and the AV adapter for $39 - yes I apologise you will have to pay another $60 - however my recommendation is that the extra cash will more than satisfy your requirements.
FYI... An Apple TV is a tiny black box that works like an iPod for your TV, and allows you to stream content (music, movies, TV shows, photos) using AirPlay from your iMac directly onto your TV. Not only that, but you will be able to AirPlay a lot of content from your iPad directly to your TV, and depending on the age of your iMac, you will also be able to mirror your iMac screen directly onto the TV, again using AirPlay.
If you do not want to pay for an Apple TV, then the problem you have with your cable may be related to licensing for your brand of TV.
Please advise the brand and model number?
