Playing in shuffle mode

If I'm playing a podcast and I pause it, then go back to the main menu and try to play "Songs" so that it goes right into Shuffle, it starts up the Podcast again, rather than playing Songs. I have to go into the Songs list and choose a song, which kind of eliminates the fun of the randomness. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

No, that sounds normal. You just have to actually
select a song. Just close your eyes, spin the wheel
randomly, and hit the center button.
Sounds like practical advice--thanks!

  • Songs are playing on shuffle mode when they are not supposed to

I am using the latest version for Windows 10 and songs are playing on shuffle mode on their own. As a matter of fact, there is a song playing now that isn't even on the playlist that I am listening to

Was there some earlier version that you found worked better?-- maybe version 0.8.x-- or version 0.9.x?
    * Some earlier versions may have been easier to "debug" and force to work right for you? What has been your experience?

  • Playing (in shuffle mode) unchecked albums when checked are synced to Iphon

I have my IPhone synced to my Itunes Library but have way to many song than can fit on the Iphone in my library. So i manage them by checking and unchecking them whenever i want to change whats on my IPhone. However, When I am Listening to my Itunes Library in Album Shuffle Mode, It doesn't play the unchecked song/albums...Can i configure my itunes to play unchecked music?? or Can have a saved checked list to appy when i plug in the Iphone. Is there really any way not to have to check and uncheck hundreds of songs in order to listen to them but not overload the Iphone?

I suggest creating an iTunes playlist or multiple playlists to be transferred to your iPhone.
Place the songs in the playlist or playlists in iTunes. With a playlist selected in the iTunes source list, the number of songs and the storage space the songs take up is indicated at the bottom of the iTunes window.
Under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences, choose selected playlists. Select the playlist or playlists in the window below followed by a sync.
If you want to add additional music to your iPhone, add the music to the playlist or playlists selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync. To remove music from your iPhone, remove/delete the music from the playlist or playlists selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync.

  • Why is an Audible book playing in Shuffle mode with music?

I bought an audio book on CD. I imported it to iTunes with the expectation that it would be in an audio book folder. It's not, all the segments are in my library and when I listen to my iPod in Shuffle mode it plays sections of the book with the music. How do I get these sections not to be part of the shuffle?
    Dave

"Genre" means nothing, really. It's just user settable data.
iTunes considers any files with the extension of M4B or AA to be "Audiobooks" and acts accordingly.
If you bought a book on CD, then you have a few options to make it work the way you're expecting.
    1. Import the CD as per normal, and make sure you import it into the AAC format. You can do this by selecting AAC in the Importing preferences. Once you've done that, rename all the resulting M4A files it creates to M4B files, and then remove and readd the files to the iTunes Library. When it sees the M4B extension, it will treat it as an audiobook.
    2. What you probably really want to do is to probably combine all those CD's into one big audiobook file. This is the way downloadable audiobooks work, and you get several advantages. One big file, smaller filesize, it remembers your place in the book, etc. How you do this varies, but here's how I do it:
    - First, I rip all the CD's as one big WAV file each. I do this with a program called ExactAudioCopy, or EAC. Naturally, this takes tons of disc space (estimate 800 meg per disc).
    - Second, I combine all those WAV files into one huge WAV file. This takes lots of space as well, and must also be done on an NTFS formatted hard drive. I use a progam called "WAVCat" to do this, but there's lots of programs that can do it.
    - Third, I set iTunes Importing options to encode into AAC at a low bitrate, like 48 or 64kbps. Then I put the huge WAV file in iTunes and use the Convert to AAC option. This process takes many, many hours to finish.
    - Finally, I rename the resulting file to have an M4B extension and add it to iTunes. I also delete all the temporary WAV files I created, getting all my hard drive space back.
Bit of an involved process, but the results are worth it, IMO. One audiobook file, at a low bitrate, and both iTunes and the iPod remember my playback location in it. Also it gets treated as a proper audiobook, showing up as an audiobook on the iPod and everything else.

  • Cant play in shuffle mode

I have my shuffle for just about a year, all of a sudden I cant get it to play in the shuffle mode . The songs only play in order and if i turn it off it starts from the begginning.. ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, PHONE SUPPORT WONT HELP BECAUSE OVER A YEAR...GEEZE JUST BY DAYS TOO...

There's probably no help for your switch problem. It could be somre foreign object, of course, and you could try blasts of compressed air or suction, but don't expect much from that. The switch might simply have worn out.
As for the other problem, stop turning it off. Just Pause it when you're done; it goes into a powersaver mode pretty quickly after that and uses very little (essentially none, for all practical purposes) battery power while in that. You'll have to press Play once to wake it up, then again to make it play again, but it will pick up where you left off — all else being equal.

  • I have a ipod nano, and I bought a Bose portable sound system, when I put my ipod in the unit and play my songs in shuffle mode, it plays the same song over and over, how do I get it to play in shuffle mode?

I have a ipod nano, and I purchased a Bose portable sound system to play my ipod on
but it will not shuffle the music, it will play the same song over and over, until I hit the
next song on the remote or do it manually. Does anybody have a solution?????

Sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled.  See your iPod's User Guide for information on how to turn it off.

  • Playing all videos in shuffle mode

Can I make a playlist of all music videos that I can play in shuffle mode. I want the next video to play after the 1st one is done without having to go back to the video page and select another video. I could do that on my Generation 5?

The only way to do this is with a 'smart playlist', and currently there is a bug in the software version 1.1, and 1.1.1 which corrupts or doesn't sync smart playlists properly.

  • Creative ZEN Stone Shuffle Mode?

%Creative ZEN Stone > Shuffle Mode? I recently bought a Creative ZEN Stone 2GB (2nd generation) MP3 Player. I created one folder with random music I like to listen to while making sports which I'd like to play in Shuffle mode and some other folders containing some complete albums, ordered with numbers in front of the file names. If I switch to the "sports" folder an choose Shuffle mode, the player seems to shuffle all the files on the Player. Of course I'd like it to shuffle only the files contained in the "sports" folder, listening to ambient music during sports doesn't motivate me too much you know. And if I want to play the "ambient"-folder in Shuffle mode, I don't want to listen to power metal at all.
Did I miss something or is the Player unable to shuffle one single folder? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you choose Shuffle mode, it shuffles all the files on the Player, regardless of any folders.
Is there any (probably 3rd-party) firmware out there with which I can make my Creative ZEN Stone 2GB (2nd generation) shuffle only one single folder?
Thank you in advance for you answers.

When you say second generation, do you mean zen stone with speaker or/and screen
On the zen stone plus with speaker ( and screen) you can shuffle just the contents of a folder without playing anything from another folder b y doing this:
Music > select a folder select play mode, select shuffle folder, job done.

  • I have an iPod of rock and pop tracks which i generally use on shuffle mode. Now I have a second iPod to store classical music. If I plug it in to my pc will it duplicate my rock and pop or will it register as a different device?

I have an iPod Classic with rock and pop tracks on which I generally play in shuffle mode. I have now bought a second iPod Classic to store and play classical music as I don't want to shuffle rock with classical. What will happen when I attach the new iPod to my pc? Will it register as a new device with an iTunes file of its own, or will it duplicate what I already have on the original iPod?

You can attach the second iPod and configure it to sync whatever content you like without affecting the first iPod.  I would take a look at this article for different ways to manage multiple iPods on one computer.

  • How to keep tracks together in shuffle mode?

When playing in shuffle mode you can't hear tracks in line together while they should be, e.g. in conceptalbums.
Is there a way to overcome this?
(You can do it with complete albums when downloading in the Library, but what can you do when the tracks are already in the Library?)

    Joepiet wrote:
The second tab is calles 'Info' as well. Down under you have the possibilty to mark Part of a collection (Deel van verzameling). It should do the trick but it doesn't. I once tried, but I haven't found out what it does.
In English, that is named as "Part of a compilation" and Google Translates that as "Deel van een compilatie". As far as iTunes is concerned, this means that the album has songs by different artists, albums such as the "Now X" series. It is how iTunes keeps a Various Artists album together.
    Joepiet wrote:
I want to shuffle works, not tracks..
Ah! I see what you want now!
Two possibilities that I can think of (number 2 is the better one):
Create a Playlist for each "work", by simply adding all the songs from one work to one Playlist and all songs from the next work to another Playlist and so on. Then, if you want to play one complete work, followed by another complete work, you could simply create a further Playlist and add each "work Playlist" you want to this new Playlist. To make the works random, all you could do is choose for yourself as you are adding them. You would need to play this new Playlist in order, not shuffle.
If you originally imported this music from a CD, you could import from the CD again. But this time, combine the tracks that make up one work, as one track. iTunes names this as "Join CD Tracks" (or CD-tracks samenvoegen in the Dutch iTunes).
In the screenshot above, I have selected tracks one, two and three and then used the options menu to find Join CD Tracks. This third option will not be visible until you select two or more adjacent tracks, as shown above.
In the screenshot below, I have joined tracks one, two and three as one "work". Then joined tracks four, five and six as a separate work. Finally, I've joined tracks seven through twelve as a third work.
Notice in the screenshot that the Options menu says "Unjoin CD Tracks". That is because the highlighted ones (7-12) are currently joined.
And here it is in Dutch:
With this second method, a work (of several tracks) will always be played as one track (or song). You can then simply add all the individual works to one Playlist, and play the Playlist in Shuffle Songs mode. That way, each work would be played in full, followed, at random, by another work.)
And if you really need to - import the CD this second time with a slightly different album name, so that you then have two copies. One, where each song (or track) is the individual song on the album and the second where each "song" is a work.
Now, lets hope I can get my iTunes back into "English" English, as my Dutch is not too good, even though I'm just the other side of the North Sea from you!

  • Music stuck in "Shuffle" mode

All of a sudden, all music plays in "shuffle" mode only. I can's see any setting to turn off "shuffle" mode, save for doing a reset from Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings, which I really I would not want to do.
Any other way to fix this?

play a song. from there, tap the screen once. you should see the progress bar show near the top. to the right of that should be the shuffle icon. tap it to toggle on/off. if it is blue, shuffle is on. white(or gray), off.

  • Please ship future iPod Shuffles with Shuffle Mode TURNED OFF

I just got my iPod and loaded it full of podcasts. It kept flashing orange indicating that it was empty. I spent more than 4 frustrating hours restoring, reloading, reading, forums etc etc.
Finally, I found a post that said the iPod will not play Podcasts when switched to shuffle mode. WHY NOT! Man! That was frustrating. At least it works now... like a charm.
    Apple,
Please ship future iPods with Shuffle turned off and/or mention this issue in the quick reference cards and the .pdf manual so that others don't waste hours because of this quirk.
    Thanks

    Thanks, 0Ari0
I looked again at the .pdf and insert and still found nothing mentioning podcasts not playing in shuffle mode.
I suppose that I am once again the exceptional user in that I only loaded podcasts onto it and could not get them to play until researching the "problem/feature" regarding podcasts and shuffle mode.
I realize that podcasts are something that you typically don't want played randomly. I do want them to play in an order. However I want them to play in an order that I specify. I have tried creating playlists, dragging each file individually to the iPod to get them in an order I want. Regardless of how I intertwine different episodes of different shows for a varied playlist the iPod somehow groups them, I believe, by release date.
sadly they also get played backwards from most recent to the oldest regardless of how I load them. I want to listen from oldest to newest. Another, quirk that doesn't work for me personally. But, that is something I still have to research and figure out. I'm hopeful that it can do that.
Anyway, thanks for responding. I have reading to do.

  • Skipping entire album when using "album shuffle mode"

    Hello everybody !
I like the feature that I call "album shuffle mode", the one that plays randomly all albums. I was wondering if it is possible to skip an entire album to play the next one.
To be precise I don't want the album to be removed from music played in random mode, I just want to be able to skip it if it is not the thing I wanted to listen to.
Sometimes I'm getting Techno just after listening to Vivaldi
I would be happy to say "No no iPod ... you didn't choose the good album, try another one"
    Thanks

Short of marking the albums you don't want to play in the shuffle mode in iTunes (which I believe you are saying you don't want to happen) then there really isn't a way to skip a whole album. I'm a little confused on what you are calling ranodom mode and what you are calling album shuffle mode. When you say random mode, are you referring to when a specific playlist is played in shuffle mode or are you referring to when every song on your ipod is being shuffled? My original answer above was assuming you meant when all songs on the ipod is being played.

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.
