Playing iPod Music WITHOUT Syncing

I have a computer at work with iTunes, but it is a shared computer. Is there a way I can play my music from my iPod through iTunes without syncing?

You didn't read the whole post or you missed the bit that says "you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode .........You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes". You need to set the iPod to manual as I've already described.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
However once you are connected you still need to set it to manual to play the songs on it through iTunes on the computer.

  • Add Music without Syncing

Hey, I'm new to the apple realm and with my old mp3 player I could just continuously add music without worrying about keeping it on my computer. Now I can't find a way to do that with my iPhone. From all the information I've gone through, it looks like I have to keep my music on my computer. So here's probably the easiest question you'll come across. Can I add music to my iPhone without syncing? I don't like keeping music on my computer and would much rather delete it after having it on my device.

Music cannot be added to an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPod shuffle outside of a synchronization; the iPod shuffle supports being used as a storage drive, but music added this way is not playable on it.

  • Playing ipod music on itunes?

My friend played his ipod touch music on my itunes. I just got an ipod classic and i can't seem to do that. Why?

Your iPod is probably set to sync music automatically from your library. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The song list on the iPod Classic will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:

Something to remember about using an iPod Classic in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • A way to keep playing iPod music in third party apps?

Is there a way to keep third party apps from overriding the iPod music playing? In other words, keep playing my music, rather than the sound effects of the game?

By reading the iPad Users Guide there should be two ways. One is to, on your computer, move the Music Videos to the movies part of your library. The other way is to make a play list that excludes the Music Video and only shuffle that playlist. Regarding the latter, the USers Guide says:
Shuffle the tracks in any playlist, album, or other
    list of songs
From the Now Playing screen, tap the album art
to show the song controls onscreen. Tap (this is an icon that looks like a black background with three horizontal black lines) at the
bottom of the screen, then tap Shuffle at the
top of the list of songs.
Whether or not iPad is set to shuffle, if you tap
Shuffle at the top of a list of songs, iPad plays the
songs from that list in random order.

  • IPhone: Telling if the user is playing iPod Music

I was wondering if there was anyway to tell if a user is playing their own iPod Music. I basically want to prevent my App from playing music if the user is already playing their own.

    Go to Settings > iPod.
If Sound Check is On, turn it Off and the same for Volume Limit.

  • How to transfer music without syncing

The harddrive and video card on my Mac died recently and I didn't get a chance to back up my files, which means I've lost just about all of my music files, but it's still all on my ipod which has left me in absolute fear of syncing my ipod with itunes... I have music on the computer I'm now using that I need to have on my ipod but I don't know how to transfer it onto my ipod without losing what is already there, is there any way to get a drag and drop thing happening on my ipod so I don't have to sync it with itunes and lose everything that's already on my ipod?

    Hi amarama,
I would reccomend using alternitive software to iTunes to sync the music. Here is an article on about.com that may help: http://mp3.about.com/od/essentialsoftware/tp/Top-5-Alternatives-To-Itunes-Best-F ree-Software-For-Syncing-Music-To-Your-Ipod.htm

  • AppleTV screensaver playing my photos (without sync)

After the Leopard upgrade I found that I can stream photos (vs having to sync them as it was before)- which is great (don't have to constantly update what albums get sync'd, etc.). Trouble now is that I can't find an option to play any of MY photos in screensaver mode (and when music is playing) on the Apple TV, etc (It just plays the "canned Apple stock photos that live on the Apple TV's drive). If I sync the Apple TV to my Mac (and it's iTunes) then I can't stream photos. Ideas?

I found that the only way to stream photos is to choose to sync only a few photos and then disable syncing in iTunes, then for whatever reason, all of my photos are available to stream. Go figure...

  • Can I back-up my iPod Touch without syncing?

I use my iPod mainly for podcasts, which I don't want to keep once I've listened to them. Now that I can download them via wifi and delete them right on the iPod, I see no reason to download the podcasts to iTunes. But I still would like to back-up my iPod every once in a while so my contacts stay up to date, any changes to settings are saved, and my apps are in iTunes, in case I need to do a restore. How can I do this without wiping the podcasts off my iPod by syncing with an empty podcast library?

    See:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
You do not have to restore your old iPod from the backup the article says to created.

  • How do I put audio files in Music without syncing to iTunes?

I'm on the road with my laptop and iPhone.  I've created some audio files on the laptop and I need to put them on my iPhone.  I'd like to access them with the Music folder.  I haven't yet converted from MobileMe to iCloud and my desktop computer is the one I use to sync to my iPhone.  If I used my laptop to sync to my iPhone while on the road I believe that I'll lose all of my current music and podcasts on the iPhone.  Any suggestions as to how I could get these audio files from my laptop to my iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Landis

    Hmm.
Probably easier for me to put all my stuff on my wife's computer I suppose.
Rebuilding all those iTunes playlists is not very fun though.
And of course anything new that I want on my laptop I will have to duplicate on her laptop in the future.
Not sure how iCloud works just yet.
So you can't have two laptops and manually sync both people's stuff to one iPad?

  • Play iPod music while on the iPhone?

Sometimes my young son wants me to play a track from my iPod while I am on the iPhone with him.
My question: Does the sound from the iPod track get sent straight out over the phone connection, or does the sound from the iPod track get set to the speakers and then the phone connection gets it from the mic?
My real question is about quality...
    Thanks.

The thing is here that the Zeppeliner says in it's instructions that it has settings for the bass levels to adjust depending on the Zeppeliners position in a room.. ( http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Downloads/Product/Manual/ENG_FP30570_Zeppelin-Air_ manual.pdf ) - page 6 point 3.3
I'm gonna write their support. I guess it's something that was available before iOS 5, when their manual was written.

  • IPod ejecting without syncing

I have a classic iPod. Recently when I connect it to iTunes on my Mac it looks like it's syncing but then starts ejecting in a few seconds and I get the message that it is ok to disconnect.  The iPod will connect fine to other computers and other Macs.  Why will it no longer work on my Mac.  It once did.  I have checked and I have the latest software for iTunes.  Thanks for your help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
