Playing ipod on TV

I have the 160GB classic and just bought the Component AV Cable. I hooked up all of the cords in the right spot on my TV, but when I play any video the screen splits. It's like the original picture gets horizontally squished by the same horizontally squished picture on the side.
The dimensions of each of my videos is 320x180 with a codec of H.264.
Someone please help me

It sounds like both of your problems have nothing to do with the Cables, but something is wrong with the iPods.
Make sure if you're living in the U.S. that the iPod Video Settings have NTSC and not PAL, but if you live in Europe, try using PAL and see if it makes a difference.
If that doesn't make a difference, take a really close look at the docking port of your iPod and see if there are any scratches, discolorations, etc. Look at the connection of the cable as well for the same thing.
Also, if you're connecting the iPod with some sort of case, try taking the case off and connecting it, maybe it's not getting a full connection.

TV picture very unclear when I play ipod videos

Recently I have had a problem playing ipod videos on my tv. It used to work great, but now it only shows a picture with a bad horizontial hold. It constantly scrolls down and movies/vidoes can't be watched. Does it need to be reset?

You should check is the video output is PAL or NTFS. Try both to see which one works best for your TV. Also ... if it`s a big TV, unclear pictures are common, the iPod not having such a high resolution.

We kind of agree...we would have like to have seen a high res color screen instead of the old iPod style display.
The one nice feature of this bigger screen is the multi-line text. Most head units only display one line.
This was a $200 upgrade...a new head unit with iPod connections would have been a bit more. For folks with older headunit that they like, this is one way to go
If we were starting out fresh...we may not have installed it. we may still pull it after we finish with the carputer project....we would have the full iTunes library on the Mac mini running iTunes on a 7" color screen. so the H+P would be redundant.

I am not sure what type of cable you purchased. My wife's car has a similar jack and she tried one of the 3.5mm mini to 3.5mm mini jacks with little success. Volume and sound quality was very poor.
She later picked up a 3.5mm to iPod connector and sound quality was much better.

Shuffle Playing iPod Nano Playlist

I was wondering if it was possible to play iPod Nano playlists in a "shuffle" mode. I can successfully play my entire music archive that is on the iPod in "shuffle" mode, but I would like to be able to just play a certain playlist in "shuffle" mode. Thanks for any information on this question.

Yes it can be done.
Menu, Settings, Shuffle - Off, Songs, Albums
Then go back and select your playlist and start it going.

Playing ipod with another PC

Hi! I´m from Mexico, actually I´m not good in Enlglish but I will try to do my best:
A friend of mine asked me for my ipod to play some songs in a party he held, i refused to do that because my ipod is sync with my PC.
Is it possible just to play ipods in another PC without affecting anything? Also I have the same problem with my PC at office, I just want to play music but I´m afraid that something fails.
I hope someone can help me, thanks in advance!

In my opinion, the easiest way is to unplug the speakers from the computer & plug them directly into the iPod.

How to play ipod on different computer than the library computer

I want ot use new / different computer to play ipod contents. I can see the contents but it is all greyed out.

you will need to have your ipod set to "manually manage songs and playlists" in order to play songs off the ipod through the other computer's itunes.

I cant shuffle tracks in playlists like before on latest itunes and when playing ipod through car stereo it will only placks in the 'correct'order - even if i select shuffle on the ipod itself.

i mostly use my ipod in a car system through the oe radio (audi a4) - if you connect an ipod and play tracks, evene when setting songs to shuffle it stil plays in the correct order.
in the past i have made and shuffled playlists then they played fine. since 'upgrading' to the latest itunes it does not now let me do this. you can shuffle tracks but it does not physically re-list the tracks like it used to.
any help on this woulod be greatly appreciated!

Can't play ipod songs on more than one computer since update

I recently instaled the new itunes and ipod software on my pc. Now when I plug my ipod into any computer, the songs (and everything else) is gray and won't play. Any advice?

Your iPod has defaulted back to automatic update that's why you are seeing grey text. Change it to manual and you'll be able to access it: Managing content manually on iPod

I have a couple of issues just wanted to know if anyone has run into. I have a couple of computer one running Vista, the other XP, neither see the ipod in itunes, both see it in Windows. That is the first problem. I have also tried all of the suggestions in the troubleshooting section of this support website, except re-installing the operating system. The other issue is that the ipod does not play the music that is currently stored on it, it acts like it is going to and then stops the screen turns black and the apple logo appears, any ideas?

Have you tried resetting the nano yet? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears. I would try these more than once just in case.
Otherwise, try forcing the iPod into *Disk Mode* using the instructions in this Apple support document. It may help your iPod mount as an external drive on your system as well as get it to appear in iTunes.

Playing iPod through iTunes

One of the primary reasons I purchased my iPod is that I have over 10 GB of music on my harddrive, which is only 40 GB, and about 100 CDs that I didn't have room to rip. I wanted to import them all to my iPod and then put the original files on an external drive for storage/backup and just plug my iPod into my computer when I wanted to play music through my speakers (via AirTunes). I've done this in the past with my iPod Mini, primarily at my parents' house through their Airtunes, which is wired throughout their house. It's been very handy. However, when I plug this into my computer at home, I find all the music is greyed out. I can't play it. Is this some new 'feature'? I'm seriously considering returning the iPod, since it's not looking like it will do what I needed it to do.

You would have to manually update. Then the songs will not be greyed out.

Playing iPod through iTunes without syncing - is this possible?

My iPod is sync'd with my laptop at home, but I would like to connect my iPod to my laptop at work and use it through iTunes. I don't want to sync them because I don't want to install 2,000 songs onto my work laptop. Is it possible to leave my iPod connected through USB and play the songs through iTunes? Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

Way to play iPod at work without installing anything?

I want to play my iPod at work through my computer's speakers, but I don't want to install iTunes or any other programs. Is there any way to just connect the iPod using the USB cable and play the song files?

I've not tried it myself, but I believe you can install Yamipod on your iPod and use the playback feature.
Yamipod is also useful to have on the iPod for all it's other features.
