Playing ipod through guitar amplifier (stereo/mono)

I play acoustic guitar gigs and would like to play my ipod through my amp during breaks. When I plug my ipod in, only the left signal comes out.
I need to use a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. I tried:
1) stereo to stereo
2) stereo to mono
Same result both times. Any ideas?

Nevermind. The 1/8" to 1/4", stereo to mono, appears to do what I need.

  • Wanting to connect an older G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.11 to a Marantz SR4023 receiver amplifier with only RCA inputs to play iTunes through it on stereo speakers. Can anyone advise how to do this?

Wanting to connect an older G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.11 to a Marantz SR4023 receiver amplifier with only RCA inputs to play iTunes through it on stereo speakers. Can anyone advise how to do this? Not tech savvy at all here, and will be happy with a simple hard wired connection.  The Powerbook is old, and I no longer want to use it for anything but connecting iTunes radio, and my iTunes library to my stereo system.

    Hi,
There were many PowerBook G4 models (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3065) with different ports (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2369).
If necessary, a manual can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#PowerBook%20G4
Generally speaking, the output of a headphone port can often be used for the connection to an amplifier. You would need an appropriate cable (typically, 3.5 mm stereo plug to two RCA plugs). Choose a suitable amplifier input (high level). Do verify the allowed amplifier input voltage levels and the impedance before you connect.

  • Play IPOD through my stereo system

I bought a cheap Phillips chord to plug my ipod through my stereo system. The sound is different from song to song (as in loudness/brightness)and i have to keep adjusting the stereo volume or settings...is this NORMAL or is there somehting i am doing completely wrong......I have a good stereo systema nd would hate to have to buy an ipod sound system to play my ipod in the house when i have a perfectly good stereo system. Could it be the 6.99 phillips chord? am i supposed to change some settings somewhere?? THX again folks for your help.

If I'm not mistaken, choosing that setting in your iTunes prefs doesn't effect iPod playback when it's not hooked up to a computer. If you need to normalize sound levels on your iPod, go to the settings in your iPod menu and turn on Sound Check.

  • IPhone 4 using iOS 6.0.1 will not play music through my car stereo

I have an iPhone 4 since it became available on Verizon's network.  I have had no issues with my phone since I began using it.  I own a 2008 VW Rabbit with the optional iPhone/iPod docking station to play music through the car's stereo.  I purchased a docking extention cable because my phone would not fit on the docking connector properly due to my phone case.  Everything has been working beautifully, sans the charging feature, until a few weeks ago.  Normally, I would start the iPod app, load the song or playlist I want to play, and plug it in to begin hearing my music.  However, recently the music stopped playing through my car speakers and only played through the built-in speakers on my phone once plugged into the docking station.  I have tried hard-rebooting (holding home button/sleep button at same time until Apple logo appears), soft rebooting (holding sleep button to slide power off), exiting all open apps, opening/closing iPod app, changing different settings through the Settings app, etc.  I am at my wits' end.  I use my phone to listen to my loaded music, Pandora and Slacker Radio.  It has gotten really boring listening to local radio during my commutes.  Please Community, help me!

i have same problem in UK - my phone no longer works with my car cable - it will charge the phone, my ipad works fine, as does my old itouch so I know that the cable is ok.  It comes up with no connection even though it is charging it. It used to be fine I dont understand why this would happen?

  • Playing Back Through a Home Stereo

What type of Audio connector cable do I need to use if I want to play my iphone4 through a home stereo

I'd suggest checking with the Mfg. of your receiver, many sell an iPod/iPhone dock connector for this purpose.

  • Playing iPod through iTunes

One of the primary reasons I purchased my iPod is that I have over 10 GB of music on my harddrive, which is only 40 GB, and about 100 CDs that I didn't have room to rip. I wanted to import them all to my iPod and then put the original files on an external drive for storage/backup and just plug my iPod into my computer when I wanted to play music through my speakers (via AirTunes). I've done this in the past with my iPod Mini, primarily at my parents' house through their Airtunes, which is wired throughout their house. It's been very handy. However, when I plug this into my computer at home, I find all the music is greyed out. I can't play it. Is this some new 'feature'? I'm seriously considering returning the iPod, since it's not looking like it will do what I needed it to do.

You would have to manually update. Then the songs will not be greyed out.

  • Playing iPod through iTunes without syncing - is this possible?

My iPod is sync'd with my laptop at home, but I would like to connect my iPod to my laptop at work and use it through iTunes. I don't want to sync them because I don't want to install 2,000 songs onto my work laptop. Is it possible to leave my iPod connected through USB and play the songs through iTunes? Currently when I try this all the songs display in my iTunes library but are greyed out and will not play.
    IBM Thinkpad   Windows XP

"Currently when I try this all the songs display in my iTunes library but are greyed out and will not play"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

  • Playing iPod through other iTunes?

My iPod is now [thanks to help gained here] formatted for windows, so I can move files, although I manage my iTunes on my nice Mac.
I have a windows laptop that i use for work, and would like to play the stuff on my iPod through its iTunes temporarily when i am sat at it. How can I do this?
    thanks

Well, good to know. But to play the songs directly off the iPod using iTunes, it would need to be set for +manually manage music+ nonetheless.
    Yes, that is correct.
    For the benefit of Phil...
I auto sync my Windows formatted ipod on my Mac but before I eject, I switch it to Manual manage, Apply the change, then eject. At work, I have iTunes installed on my Windows machine, but with an empty library. I plug the iPod in, it shows up in iTunes and since it is in manual mode, you can play tracks directly from the iPod via the iTunes interface. So I can play all my stuff at work, through my PC's speakers, without having to clutter up the work drive with a big iTunes library.
When I get back home, after plugging into my eMac, I simply deselect the manually manage option and allow iTunes to auto update the iPod again. Works great.
In addition, this method allows you to use the iPod as an external drive on Windows machines as well, useful if you want to bring home or transfer a lot of large computer files/folder.
    Cheers,

  • Can't Play iPod through iTunes without Synching

Here's what I would like to do: Listen to my iPod (Classic, 120GB) on my work PC through iTunes while my iPod is connected and charging. Is this still possible? I used to do it, but now I can't.
    iTunes 9.1.1.12/Windows XP Pro
I do NOT want to sync my iPod with my work computer. (I sync with my home computer.) I do NOT want to erase everything on my iPod and replace it with the 20 songs I have on my work computer. I DON'T want to copy my music from home to my work computer. I DON'T want to use the store or anything like that. I simply want to play the music stored on my iPod through my computer.
When I connect my iPod to my work computer and open iTunes, iTunes recognizes it and it appears in Devices on the left side of the screen, as it should.
On the Summary tab, I have Manually Manage Music and Videos SELECTED. These two options are selected and also grayed out: Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos and Enable Disk Use. I cannot get past this tabbed screen. What do I need to select or deselect to display and play the songs on my iPod - without erasing everything on it?

Try setting the iPod to sync manually.

  • Broadcasting iPod through home/car stereo speakers

In light of the recent demise of my iTrip, can anyone please provide me a detailed set of alternative solutions for playing music from my iPod through the speakers mentioned in the thread title? Try and specify the pros and cons of each alternative, state your personal preference and provide a why for that statement. Thank you very much

Okay, fair enough on the essay bit mate! I'm still doing them in college, so I know where you're coming from.
About the iTrip, is there a new one out for the iPod video? Seeing as the machine no longer has that second input beside the headphone jack, my iTrip is now useless. I didn't feel the need to specify this as being in an iPod video forum, I felt it was implied. But again, have they released a new iTrip for the iPod video?

  • Playing iPod through receiver from patio 25' away

I have an iPod Classic. I play it through our Pioneer receiver in our den by using an Apple Composite AV cable. We would like to be able to control the iPod from the patio. Is there a cable available that is 25'+ that can connect the iPod to the receiver?

I was originally going to recommend a 25' cable as you stated however I couldn't find anything more than 9'. Below is a link which will accomplish what you want however by utilizing a remote control. This way you are cable free and can move around the house beyond 25'.

  • Playing iPod through Powerbook

Can I keep my mp3 songs only on my iPod (erase all in iTunes to save space), and playing them through my Powerbook by pluging the Ipod?
    Thanks,

Use the instructions in this article to play the music on your PowerBook. To delete songs from your computer without them being erased from the iPod, set the iPod to sync manually and then delete them from iTunes.

  • Playing ipod through stereo

I was told once that you could play your ipod music through your radio. All that needed to be done is place the ipod next to the radio and set the radio to a particular station and the radio would play your music through it. Is this true? If so, how does it work ( what station do I use?) I can not find any info anywhere...please help!

I must be experiencing the luck of the Irish or something, because I also tested the iTrip in regards to range as well, and I used it to play my iPod on my 900 dollar stereo, and as long as nothing came in between the iTrip (which was of course connected to the iPod) and the Stereo, I could hear crystal clear music in Stereo, from the next room which is like 15 to 20 feet. I'd say that was pretty darn good for a little piece of equipment like the iTrip. This is just my experience with it, I'm not saying that you or anyone else aren't having troubles.
