Playing iPod through receiver from patio 25' away

I have an iPod Classic. I play it through our Pioneer receiver in our den by using an Apple Composite AV cable. We would like to be able to control the iPod from the patio. Is there a cable available that is 25'+ that can connect the iPod to the receiver?

I was originally going to recommend a 25' cable as you stated however I couldn't find anything more than 9'. Below is a link which will accomplish what you want however by utilizing a remote control. This way you are cable free and can move around the house beyond 25'.

  • Playing iPod through iTunes without syncing - is this possible?

    My iPod is sync'd with my laptop at home, but I would like to connect my iPod to my laptop at work and use it through iTunes. I don't want to sync them because I don't want to install 2,000 songs onto my work laptop. Is it possible to leave my iPod connected through USB and play the songs through iTunes? Currently when I try this all the songs display in my iTunes library but are greyed out and will not play.
    IBM Thinkpad   Windows XP

    "Currently when I try this all the songs display in my iTunes library but are greyed out and will not play"
    Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
    One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

  • Playing iPod through other iTunes?

    My iPod is now [thanks to help gained here] formatted for windows, so I can move files, although I manage my iTunes on my nice Mac.
    I have a windows laptop that i use for work, and would like to play the stuff on my iPod through its iTunes temporarily when i am sat at it. How can I do this?
    thanks

    Well, good to know. But to play the songs directly off the iPod using iTunes, it would need to be set for +manually manage music+ nonetheless.
    Yes, that is correct.
    For the benefit of Phil...
    I auto sync my Windows formatted ipod on my Mac but before I eject, I switch it to Manual manage, Apply the change, then eject. At work, I have iTunes installed on my Windows machine, but with an empty library. I plug the iPod in, it shows up in iTunes and since it is in manual mode, you can play tracks directly from the iPod via the iTunes interface. So I can play all my stuff at work, through my PC's speakers, without having to clutter up the work drive with a big iTunes library.
    When I get back home, after plugging into my eMac, I simply deselect the manually manage option and allow iTunes to auto update the iPod again. Works great.
    In addition, this method allows you to use the iPod as an external drive on Windows machines as well, useful if you want to bring home or transfer a lot of large computer files/folder.

  • Can't Play iPod through iTunes without Synching

    Here's what I would like to do: Listen to my iPod (Classic, 120GB) on my work PC through iTunes while my iPod is connected and charging. Is this still possible? I used to do it, but now I can't.
    iTunes 9.1.1.12/Windows XP Pro
    I do NOT want to sync my iPod with my work computer. (I sync with my home computer.) I do NOT want to erase everything on my iPod and replace it with the 20 songs I have on my work computer. I DON'T want to copy my music from home to my work computer. I DON'T want to use the store or anything like that. I simply want to play the music stored on my iPod through my computer.
    When I connect my iPod to my work computer and open iTunes, iTunes recognizes it and it appears in Devices on the left side of the screen, as it should.
    On the Summary tab, I have Manually Manage Music and Videos SELECTED. These two options are selected and also grayed out: Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos and Enable Disk Use. I cannot get past this tabbed screen. What do I need to select or deselect to display and play the songs on my iPod - without erasing everything on it?

    Try setting the iPod to sync manually.

  • Playing iPod through Powerbook

    Can I keep my mp3 songs only on my iPod (erase all in iTunes to save space), and playing them through my Powerbook by pluging the Ipod?
    Thanks,

    Use the instructions in this article to play the music on your PowerBook. To delete songs from your computer without them being erased from the iPod, set the iPod to sync manually and then delete them from iTunes.

  • Play IPOD through my stereo system

    I bought a cheap Phillips chord to plug my ipod through my stereo system. The sound is different from song to song (as in loudness/brightness)and i have to keep adjusting the stereo volume or settings...is this NORMAL or is there somehting i am doing completely wrong......I have a good stereo systema nd would hate to have to buy an ipod sound system to play my ipod in the house when i have a perfectly good stereo system. Could it be the 6.99 phillips chord? am i supposed to change some settings somewhere?? THX again folks for your help.

    If I'm not mistaken, choosing that setting in your iTunes prefs doesn't effect iPod playback when it's not hooked up to a computer. If you need to normalize sound levels on your iPod, go to the settings in your iPod menu and turn on Sound Check.

  • Playing iPod through iTunes

    One of the primary reasons I purchased my iPod is that I have over 10 GB of music on my harddrive, which is only 40 GB, and about 100 CDs that I didn't have room to rip. I wanted to import them all to my iPod and then put the original files on an external drive for storage/backup and just plug my iPod into my computer when I wanted to play music through my speakers (via AirTunes). I've done this in the past with my iPod Mini, primarily at my parents' house through their Airtunes, which is wired throughout their house. It's been very handy. However, when I plug this into my computer at home, I find all the music is greyed out. I can't play it. Is this some new 'feature'? I'm seriously considering returning the iPod, since it's not looking like it will do what I needed it to do.

    You would have to manually update. Then the songs will not be greyed out.

  • Playing ipod through guitar amplifier (stereo/mono)

    I play acoustic guitar gigs and would like to play my ipod through my amp during breaks. When I plug my ipod in, only the left signal comes out.
    I need to use a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. I tried:
    1) stereo to stereo
    2) stereo to mono
    Same result both times. Any ideas?

    Nevermind. The 1/8" to 1/4", stereo to mono, appears to do what I need.

  • Playing ipod through laptop

    is there i way that i can utilize my laptop speakers to listen to my ipod. the itunes that has my library and is synching with my ipod is my home pc, my laptop at work doesn't have the capacity so i'd like to be able to access the tracks on my ipod (headphones at work are a no-no). i thought i'd be able to use the line in on the laptop from the ipod headphone socket but windows media player doesn't seem to let you monitor the line in, any suggestions?

    Hello chiefdave,
    If you have iTunes on your laptop, when you plug in your iPod, you will probably get this message:
    "The iPod "Name" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?"
    Select NO.
    When iTunes recognizes your iPod, right click on the iPod in iTunes Source window and select iPod Options... and select "Manually manage songs and playlists".

  • Problem: Playing Ipod Through Powerbook Speakers

    It's not hi-fi, but on a recent road trip, we tried playing our 60G Ipod thorugh our Powerbook 15" G4.
    -Connected with standard 3.5mm cable from Ipod output jack to Powerbook audio line-in port (not headphone port).
    -Signal from Ipod is clearly visible on the Input Level indicator on the Sound control app in System Preferences.
    -Output level set to Maximum in the Output control, and Mute is off.
    -Double checked Audio icon in Menu bar, and Volume slider is up to Full.
    Still no audio through Powerbook speakers. Odd.
    If anyone has any advice on this, a direct email would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    It seems there is no built-in way to connect your audio input to your audio output. Perhaps Apple were trying to ensure people didn't accidently get feedback from the internal microphone.
    Why not try Rogue Amoeba's free LineIn? http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
    They describe it LineIn is a simple application for OS X to enable the soft playthru of audio from input devices. In simpler terms, you can use LineIn to play sound coming in through a microphone or any other device plugged in to your Sound In port.

  • Playing iPod through hifi system

    I have a mini stereo jack connected from the auxiliary output of my stereo system which I plug into the iPod to play through the amp and big speakers. This worked fine when I was synced via my PC but now that I have changed it to Mac the sound is massively distorted. What gives?
    Terry

    OK, sorted it myself. I remembered that to play it previously I had to use the phono out jacks, which I thought odd at the time. Changed the leads over to the DAT out and it works fine. I don't know if this represents a difference between the two systems, or whether it's just one of those little mysteries peculiar to my case.

  • Playing ipod through stereo

    I was told once that you could play your ipod music through your radio. All that needed to be done is place the ipod next to the radio and set the radio to a particular station and the radio would play your music through it. Is this true? If so, how does it work ( what station do I use?) I can not find any info anywhere...please help!

    I must be experiencing the luck of the Irish or something, because I also tested the iTrip in regards to range as well, and I used it to play my iPod on my 900 dollar stereo, and as long as nothing came in between the iTrip (which was of course connected to the iPod) and the Stereo, I could hear crystal clear music in Stereo, from the next room which is like 15 to 20 feet. I'd say that was pretty darn good for a little piece of equipment like the iTrip. This is just my experience with it, I'm not saying that you or anyone else aren't having troubles.

  • I cant shuffle tracks in playlists like before on latest itunes and when playing ipod through car stereo it will only placks in the 'correct'order - even if i select shuffle on the ipod itself.

    i mostly use my ipod in a car system through the oe radio  (audi a4) - if you connect an ipod and play tracks, evene when setting songs to shuffle it stil plays in the correct order.
    in the past i have made and shuffled playlists then they played fine. since 'upgrading' to the latest itunes it does not now let me do this. you can shuffle tracks but it does not physically re-list the tracks like it used to.
    any help on this woulod be greatly appreciated!

  • Playing a sequence received from a transmitter

    Hello,
    I have this bit of code here which obtains an unconnected sequencer and sets a sequence to be transmitted from it:
    //try statement
    File myMidiFile = new File("C:\\fileone.mid");
                Sequencer sequencer = MidiSystem.getSequencer(false);
                ReceiveAccomp ra = new ReceiveAccomp();
                Receiver accompRcvr = ra.getReceiver();
                sequencer.getTransmitter().setReceiver(accompRcvr);
                sequencer.setSequence(MidiSystem.getSequence(myMidiFile));
                sequencer.open();
                sequencer.start();
    //catch statementReceiveAccomp, the receiving class (which implements MidiDevice), has this bit of code in the receiver part:
    private class AccompanimentReceiver implements Receiver
    public void send(MidiMessage message, long timestamp)
               try
                    Synthesizer synth = MidiSystem.getSynthesizer();
                    Receiver synthRcvr = synth.getReceiver();
                    synth.open();
                    synthRcvr.send(message, -1); // -1 means no time stamp
                    //Play for 1 second
                    Thread.sleep(1000);
                    synth.close();
                catch (MidiUnavailableException e){/*print stack trace*/}
                catch (InterruptedException e){/*print stack trace*/}
             }The problem is that this plays each note at a specific duration and then cuts each note off, as opposed to the original duration of each note. I'm not sure how I'd get it to play exactly as the original sequence intended.
    If anyone has any idea what I'm probably doing incorrectly here that'd be ace, thank you!

    You need to extract the length of the note from the MidiMessage and sleep that long, rather than a hard-coded 1 second.
